Great gun - I love mine and is what I usually have around. Galco leather makes an IWB holster & you can use a flash drive / memory card/stick holder to hold extra ammo. I found your review of the Snake Slayer. I have owned one for some time. I like it. And did buy a 22lr barrel for it, as I have found that the .45lc and the .410 hurts to shoot. But if shot w/o ear protection you will certainly be hurting. That being said, I did remove my trigger guard as it would "pinch" my trigger finger. I think it was really interesting how little velocity that birdshot developed. It didn't even penetrate the rubber snakes well, as we could see by all the shot stuck in the surface.
Thanks for the info. It would be interesting to see if the same shells through a full length barrel penetrate much better. I can say I was impressed by the 000buck. Do they usually make those linear patterns, or was that just random chance?
hickok45 Yeah, they are, I had some of them when I was a kid. They'll outright bounce pellet gun shot. Sadly, the rubber they're made from is better then the rubber most of my shoes have been made from.

i own the snake slayer, bought it cause i loved the look, but now i tend to carry it the most because of the size (love it when I'm hiking). it is build WELL, always goes BOOM, and ammo is ALWAYS available!
Funny you mention tree trimming. My old dad now deceased used to trim his trees on the farm in front of the house with his shotgun. A box of 6 shot did a fine job on cottonwood trees up to 3 inches
Loved this one. I have a Texas Defender I love so well I bought a 357, 22 magnum, and 9 mm barrel sets for as well. It works well with a western holster with my Ruger Vaquero in 38 special just in front of the holster fastened on the belt. I use it in cowboy action mode at the range. I was ashamed of how poorly I shot my brother in laws 45 acp derringer and bought the Bond Arms in 410 and 45 long colt to learn how to do better. I used it at the range so much with my Mare's Leg holster in 38 special that I carry it as standard on my western rig all the time now. It also works well in a sticky holster as backup from the back. I also use Hornady critical defense loads in it with success. We had British folks fly in to shoot at our range and when they did the Texas Star with my 357 and won I let them shoot the derringer as a treat. It worked so well several wanted to keep shooting it. I frequently carry a Ruger LCP with laser backed up with a NAA Pug in pocket carry in hot weather. I sometimes add the sticky holster in 410 big bore as a non dominant side back up for up close and personal. One of my favorite legends was Bob Munden and I can remember seeing him use a Bond derringer to hit a poker chip and then the edge of a playing card in 45 long colt. I was impressed with gong hunting with a derringer. In range work I tend to like using just fun guns for the sheer joy of it at paper targets. This is one I pack to the range almost every trip now.
Can you please tell me if they have different frame size. I know that the barrels are interchangeable, but I don't know if the frames are a different size?
I have had my Snake Slayer for years now and I really like it. It's not my primary carry gun, but it will do the job if necessary. When you consider that you can shoot 3" shells with five 00(0?) buck each, those two shots will put ten considerable holes in your target. It's not meant for long-range shooting, so keep that in mind. For some reason, my extractor works well...I haven't had to use a stick to unload mine. They will dispatch a snake PDQ... copperhead at least. Having the Snake Slayer on your belt beats carrying a shovel with you everywhere when you're working on your property. You can actually get some pretty potent 45 LC loads if you want more power for meaner critters who might want have a bite of you.
The new trigger and hammer look like an improvement! The original trigger was brutal and very hard to work will with a larger finger and the trigger guard in place. I had an original in .357mag and besides the brutal trigger I didn't like trying to guess where to hold for the different barrels......makes more sense with shotshells then solid lead.
THIS GUY HAS SOME OF THE BEST VIDS!!! I look at these type of "Derringers" as last defense. But I would not be afraid to carry one. THANKS FOR LOADING!!!
Hi hickock45, Have the snake Slayer with 3 barrels..45/410, 45 acp and 45 Colt. 45 Colt is rifled for the entire length of barrel and so is a bit more accurate than the 45/410 which is rifled only toward the business end. Also, for those complaining of the trigger...the proper usage is back and down. Just have to get used to it! I tried the cross draw driving holster, but it kept tilting forward on my belt. Started out with the strong side clip on holster, did not feel it was secure enough..went to the driving holster and had the problem with the tilting forward so went to the strong side holster with the thumb break and love it! Bond Arms was gracious enough to make all the swaps gratis! That's great customer relations. I usually carry the SS with just the two rounds, but always have a 22 mag NAA Revolver in my pocket! Unkei
I love my new Bond Arms Snake Slayer! Its versatile and very concealable. I'm further impressed that Hickock45 made a full 35 minute presentation on such a purdy gun
Its so funny how matter of factly you say things... "...cause you know I trim my trees with a shotgun..." "...tactical reload!..." "...sorry I know I scared a lot of you..." you're hilarious
Huge Fan! I was looking at this exact firearm today as a backup. Went to the website and saw the SnakeSlayer in 410 and said that's the one. Got to get it. Thanks hickok45.
It reminds me of an American Derringer Co. (Waco Texas) that I had years ago in 45 acp. It was very robust as the Bond is. It is cool but not sure as I would have a use for it. The Amer. Der.co. was also all stainless. Thanks again for all you guys do for us.
I had a 22 mag derringer back years ago, and it worked well. I had no idea where the first barrel went, but the second shot went straight to point of aim. I liked it because it was small enough and light enough to throw in the watch pocket of my Levi's and all was good. Geoff
Thanks for the great overview! I do lots of Backpacking and currently carry a 9 shot 22 Stainless Revolver on trail. I saw an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake in Minnesota a few years back and have no time for people who would shoot something like it. Wild Dogs are a threat. The small form factor is attractive as is Shotgun ability for trailside Grouse.
I'm 66 and have been in the fields, woods, and swamps all my life (I live in south Louisiana) and I've never understood why people have a compunction to shoot snakes. After all, if you see them, you can avoid them a lot easier than shooting them. If you can't see 'em, you can't shoot 'em. They eat all sorts of varmints (rats, frogs, etc., and yes frogs are varmints) and sometimes they eat other snakes. The only times I've heard of people getting bitten are when they're messing with them or when they don't see them (again, you can't shoot 'em if'n you can't see them.) I've been bitten 4 times by venomous snakes, and all 4 times they were either dry bites or very little venom injected, and yes, all the bites were MY fault) So why shoot a creature that is just occupying a critical niche in our ecosystem???
I agree with this. People shoot snakes on sight for no real reason. The snake is in his natural habitat doing what snakes do. Not harming a dam thing except maybe his dinner. Please don't shoot a snake just because it is a snake!!
You are one of the only gun channels left. Everyone else there videos are just Commercials for some product they got for free. Yes u get things for free but you don't just say, this is great so click the link to buy. Oh and when are you going to make the gong song?
It's a shame not to have such a weapon in the damn country where I live if I could buy weapons freely as in the United States I would have a private collection
PHOBOSEDEMOS it's actually quite a bit more difficult than you think to buy a firearm. unlike what many "news" outlets would lead you to believe, you get extensive background checks, waiting periods and seller's good judgment. most people are unable to get them/ unwilling to go through the process
I have one is 22mag. They are good as belly guns and nothing more. Its a neat little piece, but i wouldnt rely on it for anything other than pissing someone off. 22 mag can kill, but its not an effective man stopper. Its great for super deep concealment as my 1-1/8 barrel model can easily be concealed in your closed hand.
I agree that the Bond Arms derringer is the highest quality derringer tool in the market. I have the 3 .5 inch and 4 inch 45/410 bbls. Well made, reliable tools and with the Bond high quality leather and custom grip covers are perfect for backup. I even went for their 3 inch 22. I was not disappointed.
Hickok -- Of your 4.1 million subscribers, how many ever fired 1 time to stop a threat ? Regardless, Bond Arms machining, engineering and finish is outstanding. Any real gun enthusiast should own at least 1 if not 2. There seems to be a never ending supply of high capacity Tupperware spray & pray guns, but nothing compares to the artistry, solid weight & feel, and beauty of these nostalgic design.
Would seriously be useful where I live as encounters with Dugite's, Tiger snakes, and Gwarder's are common. All are deadly and by common I mean I have had to dispatch 13 in the last 11 months. But have had to do it the risky way with a shovel.
the best, most informative reviews on any and all weapons. I really enjoy all the information on all these, and the classic humor don't hurt anything either. keeps it interesting. the very best on the web, so keep up the good work !!!!
I'm with Hickok in that we don't need to have a "tactical purpose" for every single gun (be it hand/long). I really never get guys that only think "tactical" but that's fine if it floats the proverbial boat so to speak--That said, I am with the tactical guys in that I would never consider the Bond for CCW or really any defensive handgun (perhaps as a BUG but I don't think so even in that capacity). However, I want one for other reasons such as a neat little collection piece and general fun to shoot gun. Lastly, I just want any firearm to spite the Antis!
I own two Bonds and I've never had an issue with extracting any .410 or .45 Colt cases. I only fire Federal and Winchester .410 though. I also have a .45 ACP barrel for target-shooting, and those cases tend to be a bit tight, but still loose enough to pull out with a fingernail. Derringers have a high learning-curve, but with lot of practice I can now hit a pie plate from 50 yards about 80 percent of the time with the .45 ACP barrel. Bonds are awesome little guns, I actually sold all my other guns because the quality of the Bonds just put them all to shame! In my opinion, Bonds are an excellent choice for self-defense, if you know their strengths and weaknesses and employ them accordingly. For example, if you're dumb enough to get into a fire-fight with one, NEVER fire the second barrel unless it's a point-blank kill shot, or if you're behind cover and are far enough away to reload before he can run up on you and catch you with an empty weapon. Also, carry the most lethal rounds you possibly can. I carry hand-loaded 2.5" .410 at near .44 magnum pressure, throwing two plated 148 grain .38 full-wadcutters from a birdshot-cup as a sabot. A double-tap with one shot! I've done excessive testing, and they have WAY more penetration than any buckshot load. I'm certain they will drop ANY man inside of nine feet with one shot. And yes, they kick so hard the gun will fly out of your hand if can't handle it.
Bought one of these for the wife a few weeks ago in .45/.410, and frankly, the recoil is "ghastly"! Fortunately, I bought a .327 FM barrel for it as well, and that's a lot more tolerable for her, especially with .32 S&W/.32 S&W Long.
In my experience, rat shot from a .357 is ineffective at more than 2 feet, it just makes them mad. Best for snakes is a long handle shovel. 7.5 or smaller shot from the .410 is a much better choice. Thanks for the videos.
I love those things. Only two shots but, as said, bigger cartridges than an automatic of the same size and it's always nice to have a simple, reliable construction.
DemocracyOfHypocrisy OK I'll entertain you, 2 3 inch .410 shells in Winchester pdxi shot simultaneously throws 8 .30(ish) caliber projectiles and a spray of 32 size 6-7 birdshot, all at 700+ fps please tell me how that's not effective
Corpus Cal How is a 2 shot breakaway 3inch handgun not an effective self defense gun? Is that what you're asking me? I'm not gonna answer such a dumb question. It should be self evident to anyone who takes defense serious that that gun is a novelty.
I needed one of these when I found a diamondback in my attic. lol I think I hit my head on every rafter scrambling out of that crawl space. "but honey when are you going to fix the ceiling fan"? "Nope, m-mm, can't do it, not going back up there."
I live in Granbury, where Bond Arms is located, and they're a good company. Right down the road from my fire station.
One of the interesting lessons from watching reviews of these Bonds, as well as the Taurus Judge, is that .410 buck from a handgun barrel is no joke.
I have my Granddad's Milt Sparks summer special that fits my Bond Cowboy 410/45LC with a 4"barrel perfectly. I've put the oversized rosewood grips on it and it's really the most comfortable concealed carry I've ever had.

Thanks for the info. It would be interesting to see if the same shells through a full length barrel penetrate much better. I can say I was impressed by the 000buck. Do they usually make those linear patterns, or was that just random chance?
hickok45
Yeah, they are, I had some of them when I was a kid. They'll outright bounce pellet gun shot. Sadly, the rubber they're made from is better then the rubber most of my shoes have been made from.
GunFun ZS Also consider they are light and moved with the shot, so energy was transferred to motion. But yeah those little guys are pretty solid too!
haha so it appears we can make low velocity bulletproof vests from walmart plastic snakes, this is good news indeed
would make a great ankle pistol for backup , secondary ccw pistol
Or better yet a backups for your back up
Thanks Hickok, all your videos are informative, intelligent and damn fun to watch.I introduced my brother who is 69 yrs. to UA-cam with your videos and he loved the one on the BAR.
You did NOT just hit the gong with that little pistol? Amazing!
Was thrilled to see you shooting the Bond Arms Snake Slayer! I have the Bond Arms Ranger II, which is virtually the same gun with fancier wood & holster. I haven't got a chance to shoot mine yet, but it looks like it is going to be a blast. Really enjoy your channel, and you really know your guns. Keep up the good work & God Bless!
Been hoping you would do a review on this gun. Have had mine for about 3 years now. Such a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, and sooo much fun to shoot. Thanks for the vid. I enjoyed it.
Donnie D
Subscribed 😅🎉 love the way you explain the entire video , definitely need one !
no snakes were harmed in the making of this video
Sad but true
MrStarsuicide How is it sad?
SAVE THE ENDANGERED RUBBER BODIED RATTLESNAKE
+Holanderos except the ones he shot
Good thing, snakes are our friends! NO SHOT SSSNEK!
i own the snake slayer, bought it cause i loved the look, but now i tend to carry it the most because of the size (love it when I'm hiking). it is build WELL, always goes BOOM, and ammo is ALWAYS available!
Funny you mention tree trimming. My old dad now deceased used to trim his trees on the farm in front of the house with his shotgun. A box of 6 shot did a fine job on cottonwood trees up to 3 inches
+Greg Taylor It works great. I've been doing it for over 30 years.
+Greg Taylor For some reason the concept of trimming trees with firearms seems really "American".
murrricaaaaa
Didn't St Patrick carry one of those, under his cloak ; according to the legend?
One of my favorites for fun are the Bond Derringer line and the Texas Defender is one of my all time favorites.
You need a gambler outfit and some playing cards at your table. :)
I'm a snake, and I find this video offensive!
I love snakes they are so cool
I am a lemon he likes to Kill my brothers and sisters so can you stop killing us
King Cobra I am sorry for you’re brethren
Lol 😝
You most be one of those liberal snakes.
The new trigger and hammer look like an improvement! The original trigger was brutal and very hard to work will with a larger finger and the trigger guard in place.
I had an original in .357mag and besides the brutal trigger I didn't like trying to guess where to hold for the different barrels......makes more sense with shotshells then solid lead.
the odd thing is that I was actually looking for the band Slayer and this was there.
you should thank hickok, and slayer too I guess.
Listen to the hallowed screams, the dead have taken my soul, temptations lost all control!
lol I like your profile pic btw
@@kordwilkinson kill em all
THIS GUY HAS SOME OF THE BEST VIDS!!!
I look at these type of "Derringers" as last defense. But I would not be afraid to carry one.
THANKS FOR LOADING!!!
"In case you were wondering what was in my back pocket"
Great.
Hi hickock45,
Have the snake Slayer with 3 barrels..45/410, 45 acp and 45 Colt.
Unkei
FWIW: Ever since I first watched the 1960s tv show *_The Wild Wild West,_* I have wanted a derringer...👍👍
I love my new Bond Arms Snake Slayer! Its versatile and very concealable. I'm further impressed that Hickock45 made a full 35 minute presentation on such a purdy gun
I love the sound when he walks
Quite impressed with the snake-slayer especially hitting the gong with it - good video .
Those Snake Slayer's are pretty cool...
This is why we love you Hickok!
My god this gun is everything i love about guns put together
I saw one these not long ago, so glad to see you guys put one through the works for me. Thank you
Its so funny how matter of factly you say things...
"...cause you know I trim my trees with a shotgun..."
"...tactical reload!..."
"...sorry I know I scared a lot of you..."
you're hilarious
"I think they were cobra-rattlers, so they needed taken out"
Lol agreed
All the way from Sweden, i just love your reviews. Quality and humor but with a serious hint every time.
Huge Fan! I was looking at this exact firearm today as a backup. Went to the website and saw the SnakeSlayer in 410 and said that's the one. Got to get it. Thanks hickok45.
This is why I love your channel. :P I think this pistol would also make an excellent self defense weapon wouldn't it?
Anything is better than nothing. But for self defense I would prefer something with a higher capacity than 2 rounds
two is enough, one for him and second for you:)
Yea it would work just fine for self defense
Can be good as a backup weapon while in the woods, and for a woman to defend from a rapist
It reminds me of an American Derringer Co. (Waco Texas) that I had years ago in 45 acp. It was very robust as the Bond is. It is cool but not sure as I would have a use for it. The Amer. Der.co. was also all stainless. Thanks again for all you guys do for us.
7:44
"when i break it down i tend to just give it that action"- hickock45 buster of moves
Yeah Allah
I had a 22 mag derringer back years ago, and it worked well. I had no idea where the first barrel went, but the second shot went straight to point of aim. I liked it because it was small enough and light enough to throw in the watch pocket of my Levi's and all was good. Geoff
Thanks for the great overview! I do lots of Backpacking and currently carry a 9 shot 22 Stainless Revolver on trail. I saw an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake in Minnesota a few years back and have no time for people who would shoot something like it. Wild Dogs are a threat. The small form factor is attractive as is Shotgun ability for trailside Grouse.
nothing better than a dead snake
Enjoyed this, does not seem to recoil as badly as I would have anticipated. Thanks again for all the fun!
The only times I've heard of people getting bitten are when they're messing with them or when they don't see them (again, you can't shoot 'em if'n you can't see them.) I've been bitten 4 times by venomous snakes, and all 4 times they were either dry bites or very little venom injected, and yes, all the bites were MY fault) So why shoot a creature that is just occupying a critical niche in our ecosystem???
right on
Cause in some places, those snakes are either deadly lethal, or will eat livestock. In my little region of hell on earth, Both are true.
Frogs are varmints?
I agree with this. People shoot snakes on sight for no real reason. The snake is in his natural habitat doing what snakes do. Not harming a dam thing except maybe his dinner. Please don't shoot a snake just because it is a snake!!
mroilcat I was bitten by a timber rattler while squirrel hunting. Just because you have limited life experience, do not assume you know it all.
Eloquent host, and very knowledgeable, cool as Sinatra, and always sweet guns. Love that Bond.
I think they're talking about two legged snakes
That's the cutest shotgun I've ever seen. You can't not at least think that's cool.
You are one of the only gun channels left. Everyone else there videos are just Commercials for some product they got for free. Yes u get things for free but you don't just say, this is great so click the link to buy. Oh and when are you going to make the gong song?
You are a wonderful teacher , and your southern hospitality makes me smile . I'm going to have to get one of these snake slayers , SOLD
Bond Arms Ranger II is my favorite! What an awesome piece!
Hey alcapone thank for the puff
Hey Hickok do you think you can get your hands on a NAA mini revolver?
yeah it would be awesome...thx!
I have one in a driving holster like the one in the vid its my EDC I would like very much to have a Bond Arms as my EDC in the near future.
I have a 22 NAA he can use if he is so inclined
I have one in 22 short. Id be willing to let him Borrow it :)
Please put those snakes on ebay! :-)
You serious?
hickok45 do rubber snakes taste like...rubber chicken?
hickok45 Wicked serious. Already have four Hickok45-shot paper targets ... time to diversify!
hickok45 you put targets on E Bay there just targets LOL
I bet they do just put a little bit of butter and a little bit of garlic tastes like kfc
Where do you live? Those don't sound like snakes one would encounter in the US.
the best, most informative reviews on any and all weapons. I really enjoy all the information on all these, and the classic humor don't hurt anything either. keeps it interesting. the very best on the web, so keep up the good work !!!!
Hickok45 you failed to mention the "two legged snakes".
Samuel L. Jackson certainly could of used these firearms
Indeed good sir.
Could *have*
I own two Bonds and I've never had an issue with extracting any .410 or .45 Colt cases.
Hickok45 your a true American!
You do enjoy making people laugh! God bless you and thank you for your informative and educational videos!
this reminds me when Homer gets caught using his gun to turn off lights in the house, or do other things like this guy
I aspire to be exactly like Homer in every way. His intelligence has always been very impressive to me. :-)
hickok45
Well said. You sure do bring out the gun NUTS
Gil Oliver there are some really out there folks ,God love them all.
Classic Simpsons. XD
Greg Bond is a stand up guy and a excellent gun maker.
Agreed !
I 'love' this guy!
It's great for rats up to 2 lbs up to 10 feet. Rat shot is easier to use indoors doesnt mess up hardwood floors or countertops so much
Looks like the perfect backup gun for future Woods Walks.
14:53 i was like " damm there's a fly in here ?" but them i noticed it was from the video
Awesome little back up weapon. I may look into getting one.
could you start putting the name of the guns you use for the video in the description?!?!?
How about in the title of the video, as almost all of them are. :-)
John p bucuigbghuhjbg
It is in the description and the title😂😂
snake slayer
Boy... Read the title.. Good god
I love those things. Only two shots but, as said, bigger cartridges than an automatic of the same size and it's always nice to have a simple, reliable construction.
You can't be serious lol.
DemocracyOfHypocrisy
How so?
brottarnacke Comparing it to an auto? In no way is this a practical gun.
Exceptionally well made and they're cool! Works for me. Great episode.
Thanks
