I love the deep dive into the comparisons. I feel like that's what is missing from a lot of other content creators, they discuss the device in a standalone capacity but there are far too many devices now to not give a "this or that" breakdown. Especially between comparable devices, either comparable due to release window or specs or size. Great work, I'm enjoying your channel and looking forward to more videos.
Thank you so much for your kind and helpful insight. I have been considering where I could add value, and long format videos seem to work well in tech. I have also always enjoyed comparison videos.
@@adinwalls The great news is that you have TONS of recent and upcoming devices to go over. It's a great time to get into this hobby for the new Retro Emulation gamer. The RG280V was my intro to this hobby due to a write up I read about it, I had no idea these existed before 2 years ago, and I have loved every minute I spent with it. I think now I have something like 10 portable handheld devices. I will give a shout out to the Powkiddy A66, however. Since that thing can fit in a watch pocket I literally carry it everywhere, but it is basically a JRPG machine and some platformers. Those 2 shoulder buttons plus its miniscule size make it almost impossible to play anything requiring speedy input.
@@Shigarui thank yes I need to look at those smaller devices. It really is a good time to get into this. RP3+ is up for preorder and I think it’s going to be huge.
I personally went to the RG280v on a few factors. Not in a certain order. 1 As the Miyoo mini has more power both do not have joy sticks. So anything beyond certain point the power doesn't matter so much. 2 I personally think the 280v is easier to pocket due to its same width and length on all sides this means fitting a wallet the 280v it allows more space. The mini is a little taller so placing a wallet it's less space. The height or width makes it so when it's sideways might give more space for a wallet etc. However it also makes it annoying because it bulges when it's pocketed sideways. 3 Durability, the 280v is just built better. 4 2SD slots this is preference however I like that I can put my firmware into other handheld. 5 Not to say Adam is better however what I do like is I can place my Adam SD into future Anbernic devices this is a seller for me. A factor that doesn't matter at all to me is speakers. When playing a handheld I will be using no speakers or a headset. Using either device you will be in public or at home chilling. A headset just solves the speaker issue. I spend months finding what I wanted and the RG280v is what truly I wanted for a pocket handheld. The RG280v remains for me underrated due to how much attention the Miyoo gets.
For the 280v, if you launch the standalone Retroarch app, you can customize your settings for every emulator to save automatically on exit and to load automatically on launch of a game.
When the RG280s released I got the 280M because it had the best build quality horizontal form and identical chip set.The 280Vs vertical form and small button layout makes it look almost impossible to play with adult hands while the 280M can be easily played with larger hands.
Strangely enough I find the compromised holding position of the RG280V easier to deal with than some other small devices. It is still one of my favourites.
totally agree. the 280 is solid. the 280v, well, I haven't used it since I set it up and played it for a couple of hours. the ergonomics kill the 280v.
Great comparison between the 2. I own both of these devices and they both have their plus and minuses. If they would make an OnionOS for the RG280V? *Chef's kiss
Thank you. Well the Miyoo P60 is a horizontal device which is supposed to be in the works and I was really hoping it would be a more powerful Miyoo Mini but they seem to be going with Android on that one.
I have the 280m with a 3d printed grip. Most comfortable device I own and the one that gets the most use. Would probably only upgrade for a bigger and higher res screen. Also build quality is top notch. Got it for $40 too.
Yo for the RG280m rip, did you get the design from Thingiverse? "RG280m Grip V4"? If so, then hi! I designed it. If you could leave some constructive feedback as to its design for future improvement!
Give me the aesthetic and OS of Miyoo Mini with the build quality of 280v and I would buy it. As stand-alone devices, they both have quirks that make me more likely to wait for a deal before picking one up. Very detailed review and comparison, thanks a lot!
I bought many of these mini handhelds but still use the most my psp go. Compact, fast and sturdy. Just flip it open and play, slide down and goes in sleep mode. Doesn't use much space in my pocket. I bought it many years ago when it was not expensive like nowadays
screen res is 480 for both screens, not 460. and the 280v has half-height staggered pixels, so it's actually320x240. the 640x480 mini screen is actually 4x the resolution.
Hi, I need help. I am using a mac.I formatted the bigger rom sd card (128 GB) MS-DOS FAT32. Then inserted the smaller firmware SD card and the bigger Rom SD card to RG280v to install. I went with the 280v for the build quality alone. I hate the feeling of cheap creaky plastic handhelds. If I am gonna pay that much for a retro emulator it better feel more premium in my hands than a 30 dollar one.
It's hard to understand for me why the Miyoo gets so much attention when the 280v was already there, I think it's just aesthetics, being more close to a "micro" game boy than the mini with that Famicom colour scheme
While I love my Miyoo mini, no way Is it worth the $100+ some pay from scalpers. Get a Retroid pocket 2+ if you plan to spend more than $75 on the Mini.

You can change the core emulator for single games on the Miyoo by going into Retroarch and saving it. Not as convenient as the 280V but you only have to do it once for each game, rather than faff around every time you load it (like in the video!)
