Dude. So I looked into the difference between cassia and ceylon cinnamon. The fuq. Why can't I have nice things? Basically, I tossed my cassia and now I'm only using ceylon BUT I really don't like it as much 😩 I find the flavors of both to be the opposite of what other people say! Whatever. I'll be fine. Any way....look up cinnamon if you eat a lot of it 🥲

Ceylon cinnamon can be consumed in larger quantities and it’s very good for weight loss. I actually make my own cinnamon capsules. But I think cassia should be fine if you’re using small quantities for seasoning.

Personally I think sweet potatoes or yams are best just roasted whole at 425 for about 45 minutes. The caramelization is nuts.
    Frozen grapes. Bomb.
"Nice" cream - freeze bananas, then throw them in a food processor with a little vanilla or cocoa to get an awesome ice cream substitute.
Leftover rice simmered with any kind of milk, cinnamon, and chopped up dates or raisins for a simple rice pudding.
Lots of great ideas in here so far, just figured I'd add a few!

At the end of the video, Alex mentioned those chocolate candies that give her the bloat from hell. Belly discomfort is common with a family of sweeteners called *sugar alcohols* that appear in many sugar-free and reduced-sugar snacks, candy, gum, and chewable vitamins. Sugar alcohols almost all end in "ol": sorbitol, maltitol, mannitol, xylitol, erythritol, lactitol... plus two that don't end in "ol": isomalt and hydrogenated starch hydrolysates.
These ingredients can give people the bloat/gas/stomach pain/poops of doom, because your body can't digest them, so they pass through your body unchanged... hence the discomfort. A small amount probably won't be uncomfortable for the average person (a piece of gum, a piece or two of that chocolate candy Alex mentioned-- always heed the serving size), but any more than that, and it's belly hell time.
Anyone remember the hilariously gross Amazon reviews for sugar-free gummy bears? (Happy googling!)

I don't personally put erythritol in the same category as these others--since the body produces it, too, it's never caused discomfort for me. For the ricotta apples! You can also cut the top and bottom of qn apple (toss the bottom, replace the top) and cut out the core and bake it at 350 for 25-30 mins. THEN put the ricotta inside the hole in the middle with cinnamon and walnuts on top.
Another favorite: blend up heavy cream, strawberry, and mango with a little bit of stevia. Pour it in an ice tray or popsicle mold, then throw in some small banana chunks and sprinkle some coconut flakes on top. Add popsicle sticks/skewers and throw it in the freezer. ICE CREAM SMOOTHIE POPSICLES super good and can last for days if you do the ice tray thing for minis

Put 3 tablespoons of chia seeds in a mug, cover them with 125 ml of milk(I use hazelnut or coconut milk) , put it in the fridge for 30 min or leave them overnight if you want this for breakfast and then you can add vanilia or strawberry protein powder, cinammon, blueberries, strawberries, banana for sweetnes. I cut sugar a few years ago. One of my go-to recipes is for fat bombs: 4 tablespoons each of butter, coconut oil, peanut butter (no sugar added, natural), and unsweetened cocoa powder. Melt it together in a saucepan and then pour into either candy molds or a silicone baking dish. Pop it in the freezer until set. I use the silicone baking dish, and when it's set, I break it up into bite-sized pieces. When I get a craving, one or 2 of these hits the spot. It tastes like a Reese's.

Orange- cranberry delight: My go-to smoothie for this time of year uses (seasonal) fresh cranberries. I measure nothing as well, so here goes. Peel and roughly separate 1 banana and 1 orange into mixer. Add stevia (to taste, do more later if you need it) and just enough milk to barely cover fruit. Pulse to make into smoothie. Then add fresh cranberries 1 handful at a time, pulsing between handfuls. End smoothie turns thick from fruit and is a delightful pink color. Add more milk or stevia as you wish.

  •  Рік тому +3

I wish I could use stevia but all types of sweeteners give me the runs. I know stevia is supposed to be natural and all but, no, I am unable to have even a drop of it. Obviously they put sweeteners in almost everything at the moment so I've found myself making almost everything I eat which, in effect, has been much better allround. Thanks for the video! X

immunobiochemist here: milk proteins are moderately hydrophobic, aka have affinity towards lipid (fat) oriented folding confirmation (3D molecular structure). they get absorbed better while the milk contains its fat. some Ca2+ structures can also be a hydrophobic hybrid, therefore calcium absorption can also be affected. unless you truly have to, fat free or reduced fat milk is wasteful.
if you really need to cut fat you should cut cheese, butter and cream, not yogurt or milk.
always drink whole milk or don't drink milk.
fat free or reduced fat milk is on par w the "healthy calories" bs.

That’s funny. My dietician urges me to eat more fat, i.e. heavy cream, real butter, etc. because fat does not raise blood sugar. And advises no milk products, i.e., milk, yogurt, etc, because they contain lactose-a sugar naturally found in dairy that is not full fat. I have a salad dressing that calls for plain yogurt and I use Fage 4% fat.

About the cinnamon though. I’m no expert, so please do your own research, but as far as I know there are two major kinds of cinnamon: Ceylon and Cassia. And Ceylon (which you don’t like as much) is apprently the healthier one, as it contains way less coumarin, which can cause inflammation and is not great for the liver.

Thanks for sharing these! I love any frozen fruit chunks dipped in or drizzled with melted coconut oil cacao powder sauce. The chocolate sauce forms a crunchy shell. It’s great with frozen banana, mango, and pineapple. By the time you make a plate they’re melted enough to be like mochi ice-cream texture. The sauce could be sweetened but it doesn’t need it as you crunch in and the chocolate mixes with the fruit.

I gather you're not much of an oats fan? :D I have been loving making little porridge-oat bowls with roasted nuts and dried fruit (no added sugar but a very concentrated sweetness) along with some fresh fruit on top, as well as a frozen berry mix. Cinnamon and peanut butter on top as well. Toasted almond flakes are also the absolute shit bro. I also love the fact that the slower you chew (TMI? Oops?), the more starch from the oats gets broken down in your mouth - sweeter taste. So it makes me slow down and enjoy as well. I mix in a teaspoon or so of dried coconut milk or literally just MCT oil, or my protein powder, if I'm feeling brave, add some chia seeds, cacao nibs, seeds, etc. and either use boiling water and wait, or lukewarm and into the microwave for around a minute/until I get the consistency I want. A pinch of salt also helps the sweetness be more apparent.
The beauty of this for me is that it's actually easily portable in its dry state, so I can take my breakfast to work any time I need to. You can also personalise, add anything you want, it's basically a loaded porridge, but it's really helped me pay attention to the sweetness of each individual component, because the oats are so neutral on their own.
Anyway, thank you for this video, it's very inspiring and helpful in a non-obnoxious way, you're truly a fantastic human x

Acorn squash with apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice is amazing love it baked with a little bit of butter. Acorn squash is readily available in the fall and winter and is chock full of vitamins and minerals and is very sweet. You can eat it as a sweet treat, side dish or make it into a main meal by doing a rice or bread stuffing. I’ll make it a main dish by doing a sage, cranberry and pecan stuffing with a little bacon crumbled on top for a little extra flavor. 😊

Oh one of my favorite fall dishes is acorn squash with walnuts, dried cranberries and breakfast sausage, I just add thyme, and salt & pepper obviously. I used to stuff the center of the squash, it's pretty but it's much easier to eat and has a better ratio when you roast and dice up the squash to mix in. Beautiful and vibrant dinner, so good and feels so healthy!

I make vanilla protein shakes using almond milk and sprinkle different spices in them. Often it's pumpkin pie spice. Or nutmeg or vanilla extract or almond extract. I found some coconut extract and made a vanilla protein shake with the coconut extract and pineapple... tasted like a pina colada. You can get sweet tooth fixes using all kinds of various extracts, spices and powder shake mixes. Another good one is the strawberry powder with coconut and vanilla extracts blended with pineapple. If you sprinkle with walnut it gives you an ice cream sundae vibe. Almond extract enhances anything with cherry flavors. I make a sugar free cherry jam and use almond extract. Delish!

Some great recipes in this video! In my personal experience, the sweetener malitol is problematic if i consume too much. On the packaging of the food item containing malitol (many chocolate treats such as ice cream often contain it) it will have the notice "May Have A Laxative Effect". Well, for me, it sure does lol. I think an important takeaway is that any type of sugar substitute or artificial sweetener should be approached little by little, and added to the diet gradually. That way, it is easy to find the right limit for each individual person.

As someone who cannot stand dates, the #1 thing that helped me stop adding sugar to breakfast and dessert foods was ripe bananas... You can slice it or mush it up and stir it into oatmeal/overnight oats, cereals, yogurt, etc. It's also just super good to freeze 'em and pop 'em in a blender - then you can add walnut chunks, cocoa, unsweetened chocolate chips, or blueberries, or whatever, to create really tasty gelato. (I just add a bit of unsweetened oat or coconut milk to keep the blender going, but you can add more to make smoothies)
