I decided to tune out after that and spare myself the disappointment of watching anything more than episode 3 idc it can't be redeemed in 4 more episodes.
All it took for Qui-Gon to call Maul in as a Sith was seeing a red lightsaber. Can’t wait to see the gymnastics they go through in this show to explain how no one did the same here.
Not quite. The red saber had nothing to do with Qui Gon calling Maul a sith. Right after he fought him for the 1st time, Obi asked "what was it?" And Qui said "I'm not sure, but it was well trained in the jedi arts...", so he didn't immediately jump to Sith. It was only after he talked to the jedi council and ruled out any other possibility, is when he concluded that it was a Sith. Let's wait and see what conclusions they come to after fighting it, and (maybe) speaking to the council.

It’s pretty clear cut why a red lightsaber indicates sith too. Red crystals aren’t natural, and require a sith to pour their hatred and anger into the stone to bleed it and turn it red. It’s as a clear cut sign of dark force usage.

@@Hlbkomer I criticize the show when it does something stupid, like having Mae say "I'll k*ll you" to her sister, when it would have fit her character much better if she said "I'll k*ll THEM". But aside from that, l think both twins have been very consistent. Mae took out those 2 jedi because she likely felt they were responsible for Osha's death, but obviously she was wrong. Remember, we still don't know the full story yet.
I am convinced that the Acolyte was made for the express purpose of antagonizing OG Star Wars fans. They didn't want to tell a good story or expand on the lore or blow you away with fx. It is basically a $180M foam middle finger to their core audience. Bold strategy.

Mundi's age was never established in the films and Clone Wars. Lucas never considered Legnds to be canon. He said and I quote, "The EU is a separate world from my films."
So Mundi's age is what this show established, because this show is the first time it's been made canon.

It would be irresponsible and stupid to use this "technicality" that his birthdate was never "technically" canon, in order to excuse bad writing and a poor choice. It was accepted, canon (wookiepedia listed his birthday AS canon up until last night) or not that his birth date was 93 BBY. They didnt need to, or have to use Mundi in this show. Disney could have created any other random Jedi to fill Mundi's role, and they wouldnt have needed any of this controversy. Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant, made this choice because she knew it would cause controversy and make people upset, or she really is that stupid she never looked up his birthdate before hand. Which would be extremely careless, unprofessional and disrespectful to what George Lucas created by the way. Disney seems to LOVE antagonizing Star Wars fans with choices like this and others, then excuse the very valid criticism of making poorly written and acted shows that break Star Wars established lore, by using a word that ends in "ism", "ist", or "phobe", which is unfair and wrong in 99% of cases.

Minus One had to put their budget to work and wring every bit of value out of what Toho would give them. We can confidently say that is not where American budgets go.

A quick google search shows that $49m of Acolytes budget went to pre-production (money laundering) and if we account for an average marketing fee like 15% actually the total budget of the actual Acolyte show comes in at $112m. Divide that by 8, you get $14m per episode, and bear in mind some episodes will get the short end of the stick, others will get larger budgets. It’s kinda unfair to criticise this episodes budget.
to be fair, Godzilla minus one is a standout in a filming industry, that's why they got Oscar. This is the only example basically right now.

Sure, I could make a prequel to Lord of the Rings that establishes that right before he arrived at the Shire, Gandalf had been murdering children off--screen. Darth Tenebrous was around during this time. Darth Plagueis was born around this time. So yes, there were Sith around it's just that the Jedi were not aware of their existence. I love how all these jedi see a menacing figure approach a civilian and do nothing about it until they pull their saber. The jedi have always looked like idiots. You remember Order 66 and how a sith lord was right under their noses the entire time? Even Ki Adi Mundi's line about Sith was dumb (although people keep repeating it like it meant anything).
I have a thought (and I probably shouldn't say it so that they can't correct it before the end of the series)... I think they're going to say that these dark-side users are not actually SITH and this whole thing is a misdirect. Some kind of machination from Plagus (sp, sorry) to distract the Jedi. It's the only way that Ki-Adi-Mundi (forgoing his obvious age inaccuracy) would be able to TRUTHFULLY state what he said about the Sith in The Phantom Menace. It's the only way I can figure around this tripe. Do they not have anyone fact-checking the lore?
It's so painfully obvious that the big bad guy is Manny Jacinto's character. In the few moments he was on scene, his body language and manorisms were spot on and it just makes sense.
