Nice, Fang is finally back!! I hope other characters (Jet, Wave, Storm, Bean, Bark etc) will also come back in future games.

But in the comics he really is called Nack.

Getting a lot of New Super Mario Bros and Kirby's Return to Dreamland vibes with this one, SEGA.
And I absolutely love it and can't wait to see more of it.
Less NSMB, more Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.
Add a hint of Kirby: Triple Deluxe (& Planet Robobot) to that mix as well, since there seems to be some multi-layered level design throughout (like between the background and foreground). I found that pretty amusing... and neat!

It’s nice to see Amy back, especially in her classic appearance. I’m excited to see if the characters are cosmetic changes or alter gameplay, and if so, what Amy will do to said gameplay.
At 0:48 it showed Knuckles with his traditional wall climbing and Tails flying. Yeah, character choice alters gameplay. Who you pick to play alters the path you take. Almost always been the way of the side scrolling Sonic games.

I’m super glad Classic Amy aka Rosy the Rascal is getting more love considering her only appearance in a main classic game was Sonic CD where she basically just got kidnapped it’s nice seeing her part of the group now fighting along side them also I find Classic Amy to be way more likable than modern Amy she’s so cute!
I personally like this version of Amy, I can't wait to see Ray and Mighty make a return as well. I don't like DLC but if they can do it in a subtle way like they did in Sonic Mania Plus It's good.
Personally I don't see how they could implement Ray the Squirell in a Multiplayer co-op setting. I do however see that Mighty the Badger could make sense as a playable character though, perhaps with other characters from the Sega Genesis era of Sonic.

@@LukeMM95 they’ve been relying on nostalgia from repeated uses of the Green Hill Zone and such, but always with modern Sonic, save for Sonic Mania and Sonic Generations. The thing that I really like about the 90’s art style is that the more simplistic design actually makes the Sonic universe feel more colorful and enjoyable. It really harkens back to the day when you had gorgeous, colorful backgrounds and Sonic and Tails cruising through stages.
The more simple design could tap into the edgy nature when needed, and not as the base. That’s what’s so refreshing, speaking as someone who was around before Sonic the Hedgehog was even a thing.
This looks incredible! It’s kind of like Sonic’s New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Kirby’s Return to Dreamland

The artstyle looks great. After Lost World and Forces, I assumed SEGA couldn't get what made the classic artstyle so appealing, but the environments look gorgeous here.
Yeah, this looks miles better than Lost World and Forces overly cartoony artstyle.
I can't wait for sonic lost world to be on the switch soon and super mario 3D world bowsers fury get dlc
Also, i think Classic Sonic actually has a new model, seemed different enough. Seems they won't recycle so much stuff in this one and I'm glad it's that way

They never forgot it's just that they treat Sonic like Mario but they are not as good as Nintendo at doing that.
What I mean by that is almost all Sonic games have some sort of innovation. They took Nintendo's mantra of only release a game if there is Innovation and ran with it. They just aren't as good as Nintendo are at maintaining the feel of the series while innovating.
All 3D Mario games have a through line but also their own personality.
Same goes for "Super Mario Bros", "new Super Mario Bros"
"Super Mario Land" etc etc.
Team Sonic just weren't as good. That's not to say they didn't have moments because they had moments where they were releasing and are releasing absolutely amazing experiences, but they dropped the ball more than they succeeded.
It has been great that Team Sonic has decided to try and make their 2D experience more familiar, but innovating with their 3D games. Frontiers was great, Forces, not so much. Forces could have been really good though, potential was there.
Team Sonic didn't forget they just thought it was more viable to try to get Sonic to break that ceiling again, like he did in the 90s.
Sure new experiences are fun but you know what's better?
Going home and relaxing in familiar surroundings
I’m loving the brighter more colorful chibi like look. It really fits the kind of gameplay it seems to be going for. It’s still got hints of the older “classic” sonic moments like forces most notable with the whale badnik design seen in the trailer but I have no complaints so long as they pull off that mashing of style well enough
This is exactly what a New Super Mario Bros. game needs!

The artstyle pallet goes back to late 2000s - early 2010s era and it even feels.
Having played the originals, it feels weird to be able to play Sonic on a Nintendo console. It looks awesome! It gives me Sonic 2 vibes, where you used to be able to play as Tails and Sonic in 2 player co-op.

Me and my son.He got Sonic Mania last Christmas and Super Mario bros Deluxe. He loves both. He thought Sonic Frontiers was boring so I didn't buy it.
Well this looks incredible and the art style they’ve gone with looks absolutely gorgeous. More than likely gonna be a release day purchase for me, just hoping the final product comes out well with really good controls

This looks awesome and I am happy to see Fang/Nack return to the Sonic franchise after a very long time. As a hardcore lifelong Sonic fan, I am genuinely excited to play this game when it comes out.

As much as I adore Sonic Mania and the enhanced classic artstyle I still like it when they modernize the graphics while keeping the 2D gameplay. Hyped!
Real, Sonic mania had that perfect blend. Not too sure about this new 3D look, since we had a more Superior art style from Mania. But maybe this will grow on me

A 3D Classic Sonic game is NOT something I expected in 2023 but even as a Modern Sonic fan, I gotta admit that this looks pretty cool. 💙

For me too. My son screamed at me to buy it for his birthday in July . I told him it's likely in November for release. We both beat Sonic Mania in February. He got the Switch for Christmas. He didn't like how Sonic Frontiers looked. He said it looks " boring". I skipped it.

I thought this looked good at first but I'm most excited for the multiplayer, hope it gets as chaotic as new super mario bros as I bet that's what they were going for. This does also look stunning visually.

This looks incredible, I love classic sonic, this feels so much like a natural evolution, I really hope it plays well, I feel like this is all that required from sonic great high speed 2d games with great acts/stages new environments and bosses and great music.
This... This feels like I'm back to my childhood playing Sonic. They captured the classic Sonic magic in this trailer. Yoo did Sega finally do modern Sonic right?

I do wish he looked a bit "cooler" like in the genesis days though. Just watch the sonic CD cutscenes and even though he's cute, sonic has a sharp confidence that makes him appealing. Sonic feels more like mickey mouse in this game. Still, at least the game seems to play just as well as the classics

I just want it to feel/control like Mania. My biggest criticism of Sonic Team's recent Sonic games is that Sonic doesn't control as consistently as he used to.

As a non-fan Sonic enjoyer, has this ever been done before? If not, HOW has it never been done before? It looks so great, in an obvious way! It's simply the classic game but modernised. Just like Super Mario's many successful platformers did. So satisfying to watch the trailer alone.
Because they probably would've fked it up big time, Sonic 4 was a mess, Classic gameplay in Generations/Forces felt more like an afterthought or a gimmick more than anything and the 2000s had dimps making the Advance/Rush series non-stop, also Rivals went unnoticed by most
Simply put, there wasn't any room for something like this before, specially without Mania sparking interest once again in 2D sonic, had they attempted it anywhere near the past 20 years it would end up as just another Sonic 4, but it has been long enough that they can use nostalgia to their advantage as much as they please, at least they're making a proper comeback with this one

They actually did try this before with Sonic 4, a game that was supposed to be a direct sequel to the OG classic trilogy. Thing is, it...wasn't very good.
It looks nothing like a modern version of the classic games. Also looks pretty cheap. Seems like they straight up copy-pasta'd the classic games physics, but at least that's far better than the jank controls we got in Sonic 4 and the 2D sections of Colours, Generations, etc.
Pretty cheap? Nothing about it looks cheap. If it was cheap No effort would’ve been put into making the gameplay engaging and fun.

I made a postcard for all the original designs of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. There may have been ones like that for Espio the Chameleon and Metal Sonic.
Now THAT'S a Classic Sonic game! It's in the form of Kirby's Return to Dream Land and I love it! And best of all...Fang returns!Excellent move, SEGA and Sonic Team

As a kid who grew up with Sonic in the 90s I always thought it was such a shame SEGA seemingly abandoned the classic Sonic art style, since its has such a timeless aesthetic that just ages better than “modern” Sonic imo. This announcement is such a blessing!
As a 1st gen Sonic fan, I wish future Sonic games would just stay looking like this. Though I do hope for a return of Chao Garden some day! I'm also so happy this will be getting a physical release. Thank you SEGA and Nintendo!

I am glad that they are finally giving AMY the importance it deserves and joining it to the main group, thank you very much for this Sega, although it is unlikely I would like CREAM, BLAZE and ROUGE to be playable as well or that the characters have alternative modern skins

I mean, those three didn’t debut until after the classic era.
My thoughts on whether they should appear:
Blaze would be too out of place in a Classic game with Sonic. However, a Classic style Blaze the Cat game with Eggman Nega as the main antagonist and levels entirely in the Sol Dimension could be interesting to see (or a DLC or bonus mode that's an entirely separate story from the main game maybe aside from some Easter Egg stuff).
As for Rouge, I don't think we ever saw her really being "introduced" in Sonic Adventure 2, she and Knuckles seemed to already have a rivalry going on so perhaps it's plausible that Rouge already knew Knuckles and the others during the Classic era.
As for Cream, I would say she might be too young for a Classic game, but then again we've had Classic Charmy (although that was before Sega established that he was a little kid).
Still, as you said, it's unlikely for any of them to appear, but yeah, it would be cool to see Classic forms of those characters.

@@ASpaceOstrich this was her original design back in Sonic CD. They basically wanted to make a female hedgehog back then so I guess they went with the normal look for a hedgehog (spines on the back, dressed with a skirt and pink color because she's female) and eventually she was modernized.
As someone who loved sonic generations this looks incredible.
Let's just hope it doesn't play like Sonic Generations.
It’s ABOUT time we can play as someone besides sonic I’ve missed playing as Amy in major titles let alone I miss playing with rouge . We need the sonic 06 vibe back where we can play as our favs that ARENT sonic

@@Khxs_rage Why do you think that when we can't really tell what the gameplay will be like yet? "Sonic Mania" was actually developed by Sonic fans rather than the usual groups of developers, and I doubt they're doing that again. If it's Sonic Team making this, the gameplay could easily be just as bad as in "Sonic 4."
