Finally I can realize my lifelong dream of living in a hole in the ground. But not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: rather a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
Wtf😂

Literally looks like Animal Crossing with hobbits which feels like a very natural fit! How was this not a thing before now?!
I thought the same thing. It seems so obvious now, like of course Animal Crossing in Middle-Earth would be a fantastic idea. And yet I never thought of it until today, haha.
Because WB wanted to claim massive losses on Gollum for a tax break first
Christopher Tolkien passed not that long ago
until recently, average video game adaptation had to be action oriented, especially if source material involved violence in any way.

@@mirceazaharia2094 No no no, you got it wrong. That one "poor" guy actually dreamed of becoming a Dullahan, so he had to be beheaded sooner or later to make his wish come true, at least partially. DLC story
Not to be a nerd, but Gollum didn't live in the Shire. He was from a group of hobbits that lived on the other side of the Misty mountains, along the Anduin river. This was where the hobbits originally resided before migrating.
This game exists in an alternate universe, where Déagol didn't get killed, because he had a Deagle.
Also, I don't want to be a nerd. But smeagol and deagol weren't brothers they were cousins. There are three types of Hobbits harfoots, stools, and fallohides.
Thank you LOTR nerds for correcting me. I take no offense and will willing confess I had no clue. It was my attempt at humor, wanting a game to go from bright and cheery to dark despair
The female hobbit literally skipping through the dandelions is enough for me. I'll buy it.

The base raids are just Gandalf inviting dwarves into your house for a party to deplete your food stockpile, blunting the knives, damage your furniture (particularly the bathroom)
Animal Crossing with Hobbits? Now I'm intrigued.
If they made a Hobbit game that was more like Crystal Chronicles or Rune Factory, that'd be pretty neat. The Shire has the atmosphere for it to work.

The idea of Animal Crossing in the Shire sounds cool, but I'm curious how that will work out. One of the things that's fun with Animal Crossing is you can do what you want with the whole island and you have a lot of different styles to choose from. I think centering it around Hobbits is restrictive especially if you can only manage your own property and not the whole Shire.
The one thing it didn't say is if you can customize your character, or if you are forced to play the one from the trailer.
Might be worth a playthrough, we never did spend much time in the Shire.
The Steam page says you can customise your character.
@@HaydenVBeckett Thank you, that's kind of an important detail to leave out of a trailer though.
Well we also know next to nothing if there will be combat or outside the shire exploration
@@MidnaNightengale it's Nintendo. Their first trailers are usually there to pull you in and get you interested. Smeagol (Gollum) says " FAT HOBBIT"
The trailer says it's a "tale of new beginnings." That makes my brain instantly jump to rebuilding the Shire after Saurumon scoured it, but that entirely depends on if this game wants to be in line with the book, or movie continuity.

Spiritually this could feel like a Kirby game: Cute but how far down the rabbit hole we talking here... after all, this may be Bilbo's "prime era" but it won't be long til some historical events are caused by him
Only concern is, for such a hobbit centric game, I’m not sure I saw any pipe weed. Seems like a core part of the hobbit identity and aesthetic. Pretty central to their herblore. Like, all of the primary hobbit characters partook in that activity. There’s an entire prologue about it. Growing pipeweed was a whole mechanic in LOTRO. Seems weird to not have it be integral to a farming sim. Is this to have an E rating or something?

I think the graphics aee fine for the type of game it is supposed to be.
I think if the mechanics are good, and the art direction is good, then people will not mind as much.
Plus, this is also a trailer. The final game might show improvements.
One of those games where you're surprised it exists; yet, at the same time, you're just as surprised it took _this long_ to exist.
It should be "Forge Friendships", not "Forage Friendships". Unless there are friendships buried in the ground and you have to forage for them.

When I can’t tell which one is the real camera perspective is an instant turn-off for me. Camera perspective is one of my major issues. I get they want to show off the beautiful scenery but I also want to see my character too, not be yards away.
hopefully they will make it so you have to stick to the hobbit meal plan ( breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper! maybe they can release dessert as a DLC?)

Po-ta-to, po-ta-to... boil em mash em, put em in a stew. 🥔
I'm a bit shocked at the number of positive comments. This feels like it misses the mark for a LOTR game. Most of the draw to The Hobbit and LOTR for me is the struggle between good and evil. However, there is clearly there is another LOTR audience happy to stay in the Shire and skip the story ;)
ok always had dreams of living in these kinds of homes, every since i read of them online when i was looking up LOTR stuff, i mean im kind of a recluse if you get right down to it and its basically sort of a like a little cubbyhole hideout... The music alone got me wrapped in.
Visuals look pretty bad, it seems they want to give it a cute look that will age well, but instead looks like low res realistic, like lacking lots of needed detail in faces, tree leaves, etc.

A lot of people seem to be getting very hyped about this. I'm keeping my expectations thoroughly tempered as this trailer looks completely unremarkable.
For me the wholesome, slow, and simple life draw of the Shire is at its best when contrasted with the dark, uncertain, and evil shadows that can befall Middle Earth.
