Between the art style, the gameplay variety, the amount of playable characters and everything else, this just might end up being the best 2D Mario game ever made.

This game looks so whimsical, wacky and overall very fun! I'm so glad they went for another direction with the art style, it's the closet thing we'll have to the official 2D artworks in the side scrolling Mario games.
I love the ‘soaring’ feeling this game seems to have, and the super stylish running and jumping animations. As someone who holds B for the entirety of their playthrough, I think this is going to be a joy to play

It was no deadlines for the Wonder abilities they were testing. I’m pretty sure the game overall had a deadline.

One thing I hadn’t noticed til now - they removed the timers! I love that they chose to omit that pressure, allowing you to explore these beautiful levels at your own pace

timers and points are obsolete at this point. it's great that they're finally removing outdated elements rather than trying to recreate the NES games for the thousandth time. odyssey removing lives was also a huge improvement.
Yeah screw the timer. ⏱️ I especially hated it when making Super Mario Maker levels.

@@IrisThatOneGothMf if you die you lose a few coins (10 I think?) and then respawn at the last checkpoint you touched. there's no game over
My god, the music is such a breath of fresh air!! It reminds me of the acapella-style music of the Hidden shines in Super Mario Sunshine. Incredibly excited for the release! 🎵❤

The new powers make up for unique character abilities. Im going to miss the players in bubbles. I noticed that Yoshi has a more classic look. I look forward to playing this game!
Yeah the badge system seems like it's a much better way of incorporating unique abilities. I always liked Peach and Luigi but usually played as Toad for the speed lol
I'm sure they got rid of players in bubbles since they introduced the bubble ability. But ghosts should function in the same way right? I think it's just an aesthetic change and I personally like it better than the look of the bubbles.
Just buy the game with Nintendo Switch Gold Points. I bought 5 games in the past month with it.

Mario games have been out for about 40 years, and they always seem to find new ways to keep the franchise fresh. When was the last time you heard, "Mario games are getting old or stale?" Mario is an iconic franchise for a reason. This Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks very cool and inventive! Very intriguing as well!
The New Super Mario Bros. series is when things got stale. Thankfully that era is over

Absolutely love the badge mechanic. I think this is really going to revoluntionize mario games.
I think they should add a badge where it differs for each character. Luigi getting his slipperiness and high jumps, Peach's floating, Toad's speed, etc.
Badges gave been in the RPGs but yeah in a 2D mario I agree

Agreed but that invisibility badge may need a quick fix before release. They should at least allow you to see yourself or else it could be difficult to play at all while that badge is active. I can hear the complaints already.
@@jaco8822 Absolutely agree! Would be quite awesome to have a return of classic Mario 2 abilities in this game and this would be the game to do it. However, the Luigi "high jump" was given to Yoshi as the flutter kick.
The more I look at all the new enemies, powerups and unique ideas in this game, the more excited I get. I still can't believe that this is an official 2D Mario game and not a fan made game.

@@Dorian_Scott I would honestly count Yoshi as a new powerup (also comes in 4 flavors) too since he's basically the best powerup in the series. And SMW came out 30+ years ago and was a launch title, so it was rushed as well. Still the GOAT 2D Mario game.

The reason why Daisy is playable is because the director decided to be a good father and settle down with his daughters who were fighting over who would play as Princess Peach.
It’s also a Win-Win for Daisy fans.

I’m in awe of how unique this game is. So many new enemies so many new elements I’m so glad Nintendo is doing some experimenting with SMB. This is going to be one awesome game and I really look forward to it.
I understand why people are upset that Yoshi is easy mode, but my mom adores Yoshi and I can see this being a game we can enjoy together.

@@maxbaumchen9027I doubt it. Same with the Ice Flower, which I think would make sense to include alongside the Fire and Bubble Flowers.
No chance mini mushroom and mega mushroom are here. They will likely be wonder effects, like maybe you grow really big or really small for a single level after touching a wonder flower, but that’s it.
Ice flower seems unlikely because if it was in, why wouldn’t they have shown it with the fire flower?

The cool thing about this game is there’s so many new elements and enemies it’ll make you hesitate with some areas. Instead of just charging through you’ll have to get around new obstacles. I also t wish this was the thousand year door coming out, I’m so hyped for that game and super Mario bros wonder! I can’t wait to play as toadette!
I kind of enjoy how they're going with the N64-ish CGI aesthetic. In some places it does look a little awkward (yoshi with something in his mouth, faces might be a little bit "bright") but it really feels like it could be a continuation of the kind of circular prerendered aesthetic of games like Yoshi's story.
(Also how some animations, namely the coins, look kind of like the low framerate sprites of some N64 games, yet you can see it animated in a way that makes it obvious that it is an intentional callback)

I like how the Nabbit and Yoshi don't take damage. That will be helpful for some of my younger kids playing. I want them to have fun and not get discouraged.

This might be my opportunity to play games with my mom again. Super Mario World for the SNES was the last time we played together its been years since then.

My GOSH this is a throwback to ALL those times I would spend with siblings killing each other in Mario bros wii u, and exploring the mario lands together.
I hope this mario game sets up the newer generations to what it was like in the past, and how nostalgic it was.
Mario truely was a big influence in who I am today and I'll always miss times like these. Hopefully I'll be able to relive those nostalgic times with my brothers again.

That drill technique is reminiscent of the move in Bowsers Inside Story & so is the word feedback when you defeat/hit an enemy, this game is already leaving a very good impression/nostalgia to those who loved the rpg Mario games 😭🤩

Something I would love to see added to the series at some point is a two tiered power-up system. Pretty much a reward for getting the same power-up twice.
It's always just been a point bonus in the past, but I think the player should be rewarded for not taking damage before reaching another power-up. Especially in difficult levels like Ghost Houses and Castles/Fortresses.
So something like getting two of the *fire flowers* will give you the standard fire power with a flame shield around you that can maybe take two hits of damage from most enemy types before its gone.
With the *bubble flower* collected twice, you could ground pound and get an extra bounce from it that goes slightly higher than a full speed full jump.
With the *elephant* power-up, after collecting a second it will put you into "stampede mode" to where you are invincible and dashing forward and flailing your trunk around wildly, spraying water as you go for a few seconds.
I love the badge system they are introducing as it changes up how each level can be approached and replayed. I think it would be amazing to see some changes to how power-ups are traditionally viewed and used in the future of the series as well to add more to the replay value and reward for good gameplay 😊

Could be cool but if it gives you a shield, they'd need to do something to balance it so it doesn't make the game super easy. Maybe make it so you can't get it again if after losing it unless you lose all your powerups or get an entirely different powerup. Or just make it so you have to get like 3-5 of 'em for the shield instead of just 2.
I like the idea of making it temporary like you did with the stampede mode. If the second tier powerups last, say, the length of a typical star powerup, they could make the effects really powerful and useful without breaking the game.
@@D_YellowMadness Well the shield only blocks two hits before you'd lose it. And it would only be from weaker enemies. Also, it wouldn't kill the enemy like a star does.
I was just thinking of the shield that Sonic gets in his games as a reference. Except you can only tank one hit with his, but since it only requires you to find it once that seems balanced.
@@clockworkengine Yeah I think the effect being temporary with some power-ups is necessary. But something like the bubble flower I think could be permanent until getting hit, just because it is a more passive ability you gain. But even if it was temporary it would still be useful and incentivize good gameplay 👍🏼

I love how Elephant form is basically a GigaChad, being unfazed by enemies (2:17). That being said, I feel for poor Yoshi (5:15) having to bear the weight of an elephant (hasn't Yoshi suffered enough already?).

It's now, as I watch Yoshi carrying Mario who is transformed into an elephant, that I realize just how strong Yoshi is.

This is just the Mario Wonder Direct from last month but shortened to 6 and a half minutes.
Unlike the "New Super Mario Bros." Games, it looks truly unique, it looks like they actually put effort into making this one, and I am very excited for the games release.
Looks WAY better than the NSMB style. The previous style was so cookie cutter and bland. This looks like effort was actually put in with both art style and level design

There isn't one game developer that is more creative and innovative than Nintendo. They still have the magic touch. Don't argue with me on this.
I rarely ever play Mario or Nintendo games in general, but considering how old Mario and Zelda are, they never cease to amaze me in their originality, creativity, ingenuity and charm.
