What I like about this is that this still fits in the timeline before Adventure.
While Amy goes her separate ways from the crew by the time of said game. She comments about missing the excitement of adventuring and chasing bad guys.

The only thing that's missing is the Emerald Powers. I wonder how they'll explain the absence of those powers from Sonic Adventure and onward.
Maybe something happened to the Emeralds which caused their powers to not be accessed anymore (except chaos control)?

Feels like the 90s again with unique 2D Sonic AND Mario games coming out the same year

It does bring back the sense of nostalgia, which is one of the reasons to praise the game, and it could be Sega's answer to New Super Mario Bros.

@@pokemon200016Tee Lopes and Jun Senoue are both doing the music. Most of us were worried about the latter because of Sonic 4 and Origins (plus the placeholder music). But if the entire OST sounds like in this trailer, we’re all set!

I was a bit cautious when this was first announced because 2.5D Sonic has a reputation of not always having good gameplay. But with the new footage and overwhelmingly positive reception it got at GamesFest, I’m now extremely hyped and can’t wait for this to release.
Well, not really, it's basically just Sonic 4 and a small part of Forces. Everything else (Rush trilogy, Gens 3DS (I think), Gens Classic Sonic) is more or less generally considered pretty good I believe.

Not to mention Naoto Oshima HIMSELF and his new studio worked on the game.
I can't wait to get this game, as this game will be my game of the year. It's great to see both Mario and Sonic going back to basics with 2d games that are original for once.

12 brand new zones is actually fire, I was worried it would be like 6-8. Clearly shows they’re working to deserve that 60 dollar price tag. 4 playable characters, local co-op, 12 zones, new graphics… probably more as well! Sonic renaissance out here
12 zones is hardly worth 60$ if they have 3 acts each. And if they only have 2 then it's a joke. For comparison: 36 (3 acts) is less than half the amount of levels you usually get in a Mario Bros. game (60$) and about the same amount of levels found in Mania (30$).
I wanted to feel happy about this but it looks like it's just gonna be like Generations 3DS. Sold at full price, for an ubelievable 3/4 hours of content.
Edit: they are confirmed to be 2 acts each. This is 25% of what I expected from a 60$ game.

@@Pulsarr Sonic games don't exist in a vacuum, they have to justify their price on the market. How many franchises sell games that can be fully explored in less than 3 hours for 60$? No one does, because it's ridiculous. Players that don't get a gameover every level would essentially be paying 20$ an hour for this game. Even for Sonic's standards (Frontiers, Lost World, Mania) this price is completely unjustified from what we have seen.
I do think Trip might be the 5th playable character. I see what you're saying but to me they still need to add more.
Playable Metal Sonic, Mighty, Ray as unlockable or DLC, more costumes for Amy, Unlockable or DLC zones, Mission mode, and etc. I feel 60 is high. I would say $40 - $45 is a good price to me at the moment until I can see more.

0:58 Can we just appreciate the fact that Fang is back now, as a major villain in a brand new mainline Sonic game? Not just a mirage and a throwaway cameo, but as an actual boss for Sonic to contend with. Fang was one of Sonic Team's most criminally-underutilised characters, with so much untapped potential that'd go to waste after the 90's.
He was introduced as a boss in Sonic & Tails 2 (Triple Trouble), and there was a brief moment in time where he was a regular among the cast, as much as Amy or Metal Sonic, until Sonic Team just left him to rot on the cutting room floor. The only people keeping him alive were comic writers and fangame developers. It's so good to see him back, in the actual source material this time.
Overlooked thing of this trailer… THE MUSIC! As expected, it’s great!

_New Super Mario Bros._ came out 17 years ago. Extremely odd to compare it to such an old game, or anything, instead of letting it stand on its own. It undervalues it.

What I'm hoping for the most with this game is that they make Fang the Wario of the Sonic franchise from here onwards. A lovable jerk that's out for money and nothing else but still has some redeeming qualities about him like Wario in the Wario Ware games. Eh, I'm just delusional, don't mind me.

12 zones but 24 levels or acts as they are called. Sonic Mania also had 12 zones with 2 acts per zone.
Sounds like it's going to be similar to the Advance games in some way, but with a modern artstyle.
I'm interested, Frontiers was an above average game so I do hope this game shines and doesn't reuse every single marketable zone in existance.
Also, I hope they revamp the physics again. Since Classic Sonic in Generations and Forces controlled awfully.

Hype! The physics look good, 12 NEW zones, and I hope the OST will be as good as it was in this trailer. I didn't really like the jungle zone's music they showcased last week.
And I'm actually kinda glad that Generations seperated the timelines into two. The Modern Sonic we all know whose past wasn't changed (and who hasn't seen Ray, Mighty and Fang since the 90s) and the Classic Sonic's altered future timeline, the so-called, in Forces, different dimension, who gets to enjoy such awesome games like Mania and probably this, and the not-so great games such as Forces' Classic levels.
