as senior golfer, i have a friend I play with, and his advice is always, think about your swing, NOT hitting the ball. tempo, relaxed, almost slow.. he is in his 70's and shots in the 70's, it has been the best advice for my game.. basically everything you said in this video.
In my opinion the three fundamentals for playing good golf are grip , posture and relax , sounds a bit odd but I do a lot of carpentry and I liken the golf swing to sawing wood when you let the saw do the work rather than forcing it , it’s so much easier
Excellent video. I've played many sports. I relied mostly on natural ability and didn't complicate things. I picked up golf later in life and didn't know a thing about how the golf swing worked. I started out as a relaxed decent ball striker. Then I got really technical and became an obsessive over-thinker. I had the occasional good round, but golf began to feel so un-natural. I stopped playing for almost 5 years due to back pain. I'm starting to play again and trying to recapture the feel of a free-flowing golf swing. Everything you mentioned in this video was me. Thank you, Andrew!!
Well again a great lesson. The ending is so valuable as well, I never show my emotions outward but inside beat myself up over a bad swing or two and constantly try to fix it instead of hitting the delete button and moving on. I can’t tell you how many rounds I’ve r the decades I’ve ruined because of this. Then letting that round oiss me off all week haha
Start bringing awareness to those bad shots!! They’re going to happen!! But if you can swing freely without concern with the outcome. You’re going to find the best version of you out there! Get after it! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Use the training drill I talk about in the video Eddie! It’s a process of letting go out on the course. Bad shots are baked into the cake!! They’re a given - but hitting bad shots because we’re concerned with the outcome or not swinging freely is where the rubber hits the road!! Eliminate those and you’re going to play better! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Commented on another video about playing the other day after only finding your channel a few days before. I had 2 quadruples which i hadn't done in years. Not saying they were blow up holes due to trying these swing changes but the attitude i took right after each one was...I am out here playing golf in December on a beautiful 52 f degree sunny day while there are cancer ridden kids not able to be kids...😢 whaaa poor me..... you made me realize and used my delete button. Sure i hit some unusual shots but the good ones were effortless. Double bogey a par 5 the next par 3 hole put one close to 6" at 138 yrds...its just the greatest game of all time if we allow ourselves to realize we all are flesh, muscles, ligaments and bones connected to a super computer. I wear my emotions on my sleeve most of the time but this game has humbled me. Great idea to chk ur scorecard n be honest. Love the game but i need to be realistic and be honest in my expectations when i only hit pitch shots in the backyard and rarely practice at driving range and play once a week. I went out there and thought i am gonna try your teachings and let the score be as ut may...lol...shot 94 and was quite happy with my collecting of the ball to my target. At a 9 handicap normally i would of been down but i felt great cuz i got to play this great game as i can wake up n put my feet on the ground and dress myself. So fortunate for health...god bless you n all your students!!!
Greg - It sounds like an epiphany for sure! Congrats on the emotional detachment. It’s a skill acquisition that very few golfers master. You control and choose how to react out there! Keep it up - it’s hard but it’ll change your entire approach to playing and enjoying your golf! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
@AndrewEmeryGolf ty kind coach! I liked what the lpga player Jutanugarn did before the shot. She thought of something that made her smile. What are your thoughts on that? Also really liking the hitchhiker drill. I hit these foam balls in backyard for full shots with 8 or 9 iron, I went out to do the hitchhiker drill with real balls n then tried the foam balls and was amazed that I hit the foam balls with lower flight and just as far as when I used the old full swing. What are your thoughts on foam balls for some practice for full shots? Should I invest in a golf net instead? Not a close driving range near me plus cost is always a factor. What would you recommend in daily drills and times for each. I am committed to this change now that I realize the distance and accuracy with a true release and that it's ok to do this. Sad I played all these years not releasing correctly being a dragger of the handle. Anyways so glad i found your channel. Thanks for your time replying to all of us Coach!
Coach, thank you for explaining the "why" on so many basic fundamentals...we all know those basic fundamentals, but for example, I never made the connection between grip pressure and feel before now!
Gee.... Another video with more information than can be absorbed in one viewing -- like this one's focus on 'super computer' -- off to the range to work the mental zen along with the correct articulation :) Thank You!
Andrew, another class to delve into many important topics. Please any tips to feel the weight of the club and be aware of the face at impact ? 🙏. Thanks 🏌🏽♂️🇦🇷👊
I had my best ball striking round ever over the weekend and I think it's because I was too exhausted to be anxious about anything. I didn't try to muscle anything, I just used 80% effort, clubbed up if necessary, and let the club do the work. If only I could putt.
So glad to hear that you played well. I shot 66 at Bay Hill Club a couple of months ago with my sponsor. (Look for the vid on my channel!) Same thing! No expectations, just relaxed, had fun, executed and accepted. Keep it up! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Great video Andrew. Just got back from an up and down round and this would have been helpful! BTW- what size Orange Whip do you recommend? Yours looks a little shorter than what most people seem to carry.
at 67 y/o my hand/eye coordination has left the building. It's difficult to stop "hitting the ball" and learning to "swing the club". It's so different and difficult for an old dog to master. the "secret" is very visible @ the 4:34 mark still frame: trail elbow below the lead elbow at impact !! ala Moe Norman. great lesson as usual
I think the problem for many golfers is that they might have an easy grip on the club at the start of the swing but their grip tightens at impact. I know that's what I do. And the hit impulse is another big problem for me.

You own the keyboard - press the delete button and write a great program!! 👍🏻
You really know how to coach, most golf instructors don’t; bravo, good job!

Great mental advice.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Every time I video my practice swing, it's perfect. Not so with the ball present... need to let go and let the ball get in the way. Great video!

One of your best lesson/videos ever, thanks!
Thank you so much!! ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Well said Drew! Soft hands, arms, lats to feel the club, especially in the transition. Stick your finish, Doc would be proud!!

You’re not alone!! Start at 5/10 and keep it there when you swing to create more speed with less effort!
