Dear @@joeysjunkyard 👍👌👏 Yeah, you're definitely kind of right, Sir. But I think the power was with him additionally because he used a plastic squeezing bottle for gasoline like great Mustie1 always does! ;-) :-) You know, those energy vibes can be really strong in that great Volkswagen community. 2) The trickshot was fantastic of course. Best regards, luck and health.
6V starters matter. I love the insert" no starters were harmed during filming. That was great. One day im going to have to chat in private. Im amazed on how many VWs your still finding. Here in FL. we lost thousands of beetle from cash for clunkers. It's been real thin findings ever since. Thank you as always for saving these and sharing the content with others.
Hey man, Kevin here from Australia. Mustie 1 would have just pulled the carb and put it in the ultrasonic cleaner. While he was waiting for the carb he would have adjusted the brakes then washed the car . All this in time for lunch. After lunch carb back on start car and test drove. What a guy 🤪 Anyhoo thanks for sharing man stay safe and stay well. ✌ Peace.
Hey! You might remember me from commenting on other videos. I am excited to announce that I just purchased my first Beetle!! An '83 with a pre 70's look. Dark blue metallic, completely restored. Absolutely in love!! Damn man, they drive amazing.. wow!
Grinding over a completely non-cooperative engine brings back bad memories ... I felt myself getting tenser and tenser as you kept going to no avail, until it DID! Yay!! Damn; the relief...
You may not know anything about motors BUT your sense of humor definitely makes up for it. (wish I lived next door...you need an old timer like me to show you how to manhandle those old engines)
if you bring the engine to TDC on the compression stroke with the points closed, advance until the points just open. That will be very close to timing specs.
Hi Jason, be sure to give that throttle lever a tug, either from the carb lever itself or the gas pedal if connected. Even with fuel in the bowl and spark gas may not be getting down into the intake ports if the throttle plate stays closed. Thanks for the video and keep 'em coming! take care - Ted
I sit and watch, wait, see your frustration, nothing, there was a small cough, The after 7:25 It starts !! Like a sunrise, like a ..... no not that! After all the years. Well done!!
Dear 5150mxVW 👍👌👏 Well, Sir, I guess that starter motor was not far away from going to Johnathan W.s special starter motor cemetery/grave yard. 😁 2) I definitely like that bug. It must be the colour I guess. Great to hear it runnin' again. Congrats! 3) I hope that your great little petrolhead son Josh will do the pressure washing again. I'm eagerly looking forward to watch the cleaning process, oil and front hood change etc.p.p.. 4) Please, big "J", please tell me that you tried that fantastic backshot/trickshot at the end of the video a lot of times. Because if it is a one in a hole my mind will blow up. 😁 Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
I was 2-4 , one hit rim and went in , missed 2 and all net for the one I used👍....new ( used ) hood is on but I needed the kubota to open it after install 😂
Dear @@5150mxVW Thanks for replying and thanks a lot for the heart. I absolutely appreciate both (as I already mentioned often). 2) Oh WOW, what a trickshot specialist. Now I'm feelin' really small (I loved to play basketball in school but not as good as you). Have you probably been a kind of professional? 3) 😱 What? You had to open the freshly mounted new/used hood with a tractor??? I hope to see that trick in the next video and can hardly wait for it. By the way: Have you already brought home the blue donor bug to make the VW fence even longer = more steak dinner for your great wife? ;-) Sincerely yours.
It helps if you actuate the throttle a little bit too. Sometimes a little shot from the accelerator pump helps get it running faster. Also at least static time it first; it gives you a benchmark that you can fine tune later. That last hoop shot was legendary. You da man! Still waiting for that concourse resto from last time...🤣😂
hahahahaa i was like hes gonna shoot that basket / MAKES IT ! smooth criminal ! ! thanks for correcting me by the way i thought that was Mustie1 ! ! ! you brother's ROCK
I really loved to format of this video. Mustie1 taking you thru the 2 hour step-by-step is wonderful, but I like the short format you did. You were killing me. I would have resorted to starting fluid to get it wormed up. ...and yes you can get lubricated starter fluid, only kind I use.
Jason, I think I watched you put marvel mystery oil down the carb...yeah? Well When you have probably low compression, bad plug wires and an archaic ignition system...ie points...it probably fouled the plugs right off the bat . If it’s seized...I can understand a soaking. But if it turns I wouldn’t dump raw oil down the carb. I know.... I would, I would, I would. So here goes. I would take the valve covers off, and give a bang or two with a wooden mallet on those wolves and see if their stuck...if they are loose, then take the cap off, check for sparkage....then I would just use a little 40/1.....you could even use marvel for that mix. Down the carb. That way it won’t foul the plugs. Sounds like it’s missing, probably a stuck valve or bad plug wire. Great video, thank you for the will it run. Totally jealous of all your VWs 😀😀😀
Hi Jason..... That was a great vidio. Love when you get the VW. Running after sitting for 30 yrs. And you get them running great! Do you ever sell any of the car's? Your vidio's are great enjoy them!!TY
I WAS going to be clever, & comment "We didn't start the fire", but then Panama fired, so that just leaves me w/saying "Congratulations", which isn't nearly as clever. When you asked the engine, "Just what's the matter with you, huh?" I had a brief flashback to my '75 Bel Air - she made me change her spark plugs in -20 degree weather before she would start one year.. I'll never forget that. Did I say congratulations?
Man, was this frustrating to watch. I was shouting at the monitor "Brush off the plugs, clean the points and rotor, check the distributor cap for any nasties, put a little timing in it, and crank it!" The payoff was worth it though, that thing is gonna be sweet! Way to go!
SHE'S A RUNNER!!!! Which is way more than I can say for mine! Mine is full of SAND and I can not figure out how it got in there! OH, and it is locked -up tight. IT WAS FREE and I don't have a car to put it in right now, YET!
I love these “will it start, first start in a long long time videos”! Thanks bro!

I've got one of those big cap Bosch Distributors for sale, new points, everything. They are actually correct for a 61-64 Bug/Bus.

@canuckguy worried Yep, keep the throttle open after dunping in gas, you could tell by the exhaust smoke it was flooded
It. Will run, as long as the idle circuit isn’t plugged.
