  • Following on from my Chinese Diesel Heater Build Video, I take things a step further and show you how to wire your heater for use in your workshop/shed/garage etc using a 240 volt power supply. Your heater features a negative, and a positive input cable, and your 3 pin plug has live, neutral, and ground/earth wires. In this hoe-to tutorial video I show you which wire goes where...
    You'll need a 240v to 12v converting transformer, and you'll need to source a 3 core cable with 3 pin plug to run from your mains electricity supply (Links for all parts below).

    I've never really liked these units as they don't come with an isolated external unit/casing. And mains cable clam. Also keep an eye out that you pick the right amp ratings. It's possible yours looks like a 20amp unit?

    • @hausofyax
      @hausofyax  10 місяців тому

      This is a 30 amp unit. I too would prefer that the wiring was more isolated but that's just how these transformers are. It is safe if done properly 👍

    Really helpful thanks 👍🏻 What sort of current does the power supply pull through the 12v cable? Should be able to fuse it down to 3amp shouldn’t you?

    • @hausofyax
      @hausofyax  9 місяців тому

      You're welcome. I'm not sure to be hinest but the converter is rated to 30 amps, so less than that!

      The heater won't pull anywhere near 20a the kettle plug will have a 13a fuse anyway but I would take it down to 3a. But I reckon they probably use less than 1a as you see people just running them from a car battery and only charging weekly

    Great, was gunna go buy a big battery buy after seeing how easy this looks im gunna go this way now. How was the heater? Any problems with it running?

      The heater is great. I'm using it in a decent size workshop and it is very effective in everything but freezing conditions. It would be even better in a smaller space. I have another one to install for those extra chilly days!

    I am interested in adding a battery for power supply in situations where the mains power is interrupted. When starting/stopping, the heater has a cleaning cycle, between 3-5 minutes. If there is a power outage during this time, the cycle is interrupted and restarted at the first start. this source does not allow a battery to be connected to one of the links, because it does not know how to automatically switch to the battery. Are you thinking of adding a battery in the future? A video would be interesting. Thank you.

      That would be a good idea but to be honest it is not something I would need to do here. If there was no power I couldn't do any work so I'd be off home anyway 🤣

    Hello just seen your vid and thought this product might come in handy as we are getting a small van to do a self build but we want to do it a basic as possible plus we have a very tight budget the hole van is going to be powered by a portable power station high powered one like 2500w but problem I think I'm gonna have is powering the diesel heater as most power station 12v is only 10amps some work but some don't but seeing this device would this work on the power station if I use the 3 pin sockets instead of the 12v please as this may solve my problem if it does work that I you.

      I couldn't answer that I'm afraid. I would contact the maker of the power station for advice, or look on van-life forums to see what others are doing. Hope that helps

      @@hausofyax thanks buddy I will have to have a look I can see this working though as most power stations have the 3 pin sockets for main supply like a house just converting the power lol but thank you anyway

    Your link to the 12v/240w takes me to a 12v/360w, can i use the 360w or does it have to be the 240w? Also why a 13amp plug, not a 3amp?. Thanks

      You can get 1a Fuses for plugs but they are hard to get . you should be using as small a fuse as possible if it says 350w probably a 3a fuse but no bigger than a 5a

      You just change the fuse in the plug to a 3a if it blows, which it shouldn't unless there is something wrong put a 5 a fuse in if that goes there's really something wrong with probably the power supply box or the heater itself

    it's not a good idea at all to run your 12v diesel heater off 240 volts 12v power power supply , in any case of a power blackout your heat , won't be able to go into cool down mode and will damage your heater

    • @hausofyax
      @hausofyax  5 місяців тому

      That is a valid point, I wonder how much damage would actually be done in that event. It's not happened to me so far.
