- First up in the deep dive review in the full Maxspect Jump range (the budget friendly reefing range from Maxspect) is the Gyre 4k.
Maxspect are the brand that brought the famous gyre style flow and therefore my expectations are high, even for the Jump model which is a incredibly cheap $380AUD retail.

Have the Maxspect gyre 4K on my Waterbox 4820, it has plenty of flow on a 4ft peninsula. Pulse mode is awesome. Great review!

Sam just bought the 2k, switching the rotors are colour coordinated A=red so your black rotor has a red end, and the same for the B=green, just make sure all the colours match all red and all green, it is an awesome pump thanks for the controller setup review.

Thabks for the info, i decided to pull the trigger on the icecap 4k too. I will be using it in much smaller tank 87 gallon.
Curious on the lognevity on these, i am switching from mp40s.
yeah time will tell. I am hoping that the ease of serviceability will make it a longer lasting gyre

I’ve got the 2k on my 4x2x2 going to add another on the other side of the tank. I could get away just the one but thinking having two will be a bit more randomised flow if it’s crashing in the centre
Yeah you could even have one reversed so they effectively work together from opposite sides of the tank!
Thank you for the video. I have a peninsula tank that is 55 inches long. Have you tried mounting the powerhead vertically just to see how the flow would look? I’m thinking about getting two, one on each side of the weir box and mounted vertically since it would be too long to mount horizontal. Thank you.
yeah I have and it work very well, bare in mind though, that horizontal or vertical, the job of the gyre is to move water around the outside edge, not through the middle.

So know that you have experience with two versions of gyres and Tunze stream 3 which do you feel can push water further? I have an eight ft peninsula so looking for pumps I can place on the overflow side and leave the three viewing panes clean.
Stream 3 is a much much stronger pump. But the gyre has a different flow pattern, each great in their own way
Which is more silent? Tunze or this one?
Feet 4 Fish tunze is more quiet moving the same amount of water
I have a brand new set of the 350s for my soon to be red sea 650P just heard about the new jump whats the difference? besides a little more flow the ugly orange blades and maybe the ease of replacing them? IDK I have not used the 350s yet
don't replace your 350's! Your twin 350's should run off the one controller, these will need a controller each :)
These are awesome and I heard you can get 3D printed flow directors. CoralVue also have their Hydros wave engine and I think a Gyre controller that does control 2 pumps - don't know when we can get our hands on them outside the US.
I have my massive (el-cheapo) gyre verically against the overflow to keep it hidden - I also don't run it from 5pm-10pm (just to give my LPS a break to get puffy. I don't know if there is a quality difference between these and the 350? that have more features... maybe... but assuming they are the same level of quality I'd just get these. Can the impeller be removed? I thought it was the same as the Ice Cap, but I really can't figure it out. Looked the manual up but it doesn't say anything about disassembly.
I’m not sure, I’d imagine it could be but I have not done so myself
In auto mode how do you get it to shut down at night would it be setting the last auto time point and selecting 0 power on all available options.
I’m not sure to be honest, this video was from ages ago! That sounds plausible though, worth a shot.
Hi Sam, do you know what is the difference between this 2k/4k version you reviewed and the 200/300 xf series (beside the price)?
I don’t have a lot of experience with the normal gyres, but I don’t think there is all that much difference. I’m sure someone will inform me of a massive difference, but I don’t know of it 😅
@@ParkersReef Thanks for your prompt reply. I think one of the differences is that the xf series allows you to run two pumps on the one controller whereas (as you mentioned in your video) the 2k/4k only runs one pump. This is only a guess on my part as I can see the xf series can be purchased with single or twin pump.

Is it possible to run this gyre 4k in a Juwel Rio 180 (3.3ft in length)? can you adjust the power output to low settings or this gyre is too much for such 180 liters aquarium? TIA
You could, although it would be still fairly strong at those levels. Perhaps the 2k would be a better option?

So one gyre is enough for that tank? I have a waterbox 50.3 which is 36 inches long and I’m wondering how many I’d need, one would work? Would it be enough flow for sps
Gyre's I always recommend being not the only source of flow in a tank. They move water around the outside edge of the tank, but not effectively through the middle. Add something like a Nero 5 to the mix and you'll have a great setup

I can't find website that has this 4k with that digital controller. They all seem to come with the led light model controller. Can you post link to get this model?

So just looking at what CoralVue (US distributor of Maxspect and other companies) offers, this Maxspect Jump Gyre looks identical to the Icecap Gyre 4k, same shape, some orange propellers, same black replacements with one minor difference, the controller... which is identical to the Icecap 1k/3k controller. Since they have same parent company as Icecap I wonder if there are any quality differences between the two. That said, not having seen any IceCap4k reviews around, this works perfectly fine.
I'd imagine they are identical - but I can't really say as I haven't had my hands on the ice cap.
My preference would be for people to not remove the "foil" on the outside magnet. Removing the foil and sticking it to your tank sounds great but people may end up regretting difficulty of positioning later, wishing for some more flexibility. Noise level for me was fine until about a year for previous generation maxspect gyre. Then they started to become more noisy. Think we'll obviously need to wait for long term review for that.
Yeah same - I wouldn’t remove that either.
Yeah gyres typically get noisy if they get dirty. With this being so easy to clean, it will hopefully last longer

Hard to say if it is enough, probably is - but the price difference up to the 4K is not much, so I’d lean that way if you can fit it in

yeah I have, it's still running well. Like all gyre's, it needs pretty often cleaning to keep flowing well though :)

Yeah would do I am sure. Only thing is, there doesn’t appear to a way to sync two other than manually timing the button presses 😅

Nice video , the only thing i dont undestand is : fx 350 is for 200-2000 liter aquariums, and the gf4k is only for 50-400 liters ?
The first one has 20000 l/h flow the second is 15 000 l/h ...so how would be the second one not enough for a 180 cm aquarium maybe whit 1000 liter 🤔??
Yeah that almost has to be a typo. A friend of mine is running this in a 400 litre tank and having trouble turning it down low enough. Easily handles 600l+ tanks

It’ll handle the length fine. It won’t be enough as your only wave maker, but it would certainly contribute

hi mine was faulty, total strip, removed the rotor, all cleaned, new bushes...internal rotor bushes... runs well again... easy easy strip..bushes were £15 deliverd..

i think your pump is upside down the intake should be on the bottom and the surface should be well agitated . I guess it doesn't matter but the other reviews I've watched show the intake on the bottom
with the pump having the ability to spin either direction, you can set it up either way :)

I'm that people. Never seen this channel before. That tank is SHAMEFUL. But it's good for seeing the flow patterns created by the Gyre; you just watch the detritus drift.

@@blakepetty4906 hey mate, different flow pumps have different abilities. For my new tank I will be running 2 Tunze Stream 3's and likely a gyre or two as well.
