@@CharizardBlaze "We gotta make a new Fairy-type Pokemon!" "Let's make this elegant Pokemon covered in flowers!" "Cool! Pure Fairy it is!" "Wait what?"
I would remove sappy seed, jungle healing, magic powder, misty explosion, natures madness, strange steam in place for pollen puff and strength sap. Those moves I listed are either signature moves, dont fit meganium or are unusable. I would keep 85 speed at least because supporter mons are usually not fast and instead give it 95 spatk. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: give it flower shield as an ability. Does the same thing a leaf guard but doesnt require sun, also protects it from stat drops and affects other grass types on your team during doubles. Misty surge is not that good considering sleep powder is something you might want to run.
Flower shield for example can block burns and intimidate for your rillaboom in doubles without it needing to worry about running items to block those conditions. Could also be a huge help for ogerpons, meowscarada or any other good offensive grass types.
For some reason they made the grass types the easiest to raise at the cost of power. Idk why I guess theyre saying plants are less dangerous than water and fire? But after gen 3 they stopped
Sappy Seed, Jungle Healing, and Nature's Madness are signature moves for Partner Eevee (from the Let's Go games), Zarude (a mythical Pokemon), and the 4 Guardians of Alola (legendary Pokemon). Strange Steam is also the signature move of Galarian Weezing (and Meganium has very little to do with smoke or steam). Fairy Lock is the signature move of Klefki. So _no,_ Meganium should NOT be able to learn those moves.
@@matthewmckinnon714 I can permit some like floral healing cause they make thematic sense but how the fuck would a plant have strange steam, where is it keeping steam? Meganium isnt from the jungle so wtf
Just like how Leaf Blade is Sceptile's signature move, Water Shuriken and Mat Block are Greninja's signature moves, and Sacred Fire is Ho-oh's signature move. Oh wait... IMO, signature moves are a cool title, but they should not be withheld from other Pokemon in the coming generations just because they are such. Sappy Seed and Jungle Healing can easily be given to a plethora of underpowered Grass mons (Sappy Seed is literally gone from _any_ mon's learnset because Partner Eevee is stuck in perpetual limbo in Let's Go. It ain't even a signature move at this point - it's just sitting there taking up file space), and don't even get me started on Volt Tackle singlehandedly gatekeeping every physical Electric mon except for Pawmot, Zekrom, and Zeraora (who have their _own_ signature moves) from competitive viability. If it makes sense for a mon to get it, then they should get the move regardless of if it used to be a signature move or not. I don't want more cases of Iron Boulder getting Mighty Cleave, while Terrakion is left in the dirt because they need the move to be prettier and more eye-catching due to being on only one mon. For something like Oblivion Wing I get, but you're telling me only one out of the 1,000+ mons can cleave mightily or only three out of 1,000+ can tackle voltily?
At times it can be justified to expand signature moves to other Pokemon. None of those moves are an example of that. Those are all clearly ill fitting and not justified. If you really want to do it, just reskin an effect. Like a new fairy type version of Jungle Healing.
Hear me out, meganium should get flower viel. It's one of the signature abilities of the florges line that prevents Stat drops and conditions from being applied to ally grass types on the field, with the draw back being that it's not on a grass type. Meganium deserves to have a stupid overpowered ability at this point
Someone finally thinks like me idk why people dont think of this more. Also flower veil works on the user if theyre a grass type so meganium is automatically protected as well. Would be immune to electro web in doubles.
Honestly lots of gen one and two mons definitely need a revamp with how plain they are in types moves and stats. Hitmo trio for example should get EVOS that give them a second type in steel ground and rock to be different from Machamp with boosted stats. Hypno needs a new dual type like Mr mine got to be different from abra line. That way when we get a gen 1 or 2 game again it feels new and fresh.
love the changes, ive always wondered if a signature move that heals 1/3 or so of all your party members, on top of the additional fairy typing, would make meganium viable in competitive, like AT LEAST giving it roles in ru, uu, etc
it makes the most sense thematically and benefits it more than dragon. If we are gonna have x4 weaknesses and lots of others I think fairy does a better job.
@@bigmonke3348 not every nice Pokemon with pink should be a fairy type. That is called stereotyping and in 2024 it is bad LOL. Could just keep it pure grass. It doesn't have to be OP, just better. Hella, even just an ability swap and a couple moves would help.
If Rillaboom can get grassy surge, then misty surge is perfectly fine. With that, just one decent fairy move, rage powder and just 10 base stats to match typhlosion id bring Meganium to a competive VGC team for sure
As someone who loves Chikorita… I'm still aware that if you buff it, you also have to buff the Totodile, and Cyndaquil lines… due to them being a set of starters.
I would say Toxicroack would be Meganium's worst enemy and any poison type too, because you know, grass + fairy = x4 weakness In fact, Team Rocket would be a nightmare for Meganium
It works specifically on plants so nah. Ho-oh has powers that bring back the dead and pawmott is a defibrilator so it makes sense. Flower veil makes more sense in that regard. (the ability)
Step one, give it dragon dance. Step two, give it huge power. Step three, give it a grass-type fishous rend Step four, Meganiun becomes Uber.. probably..
I think Meganium should be a bulky tank similar to Venusaur but slower for Trick Room. The Fairy type is a really good idea. If I couldn't change the base stat total, I would take 20 points from Speed and put it into HP. For hidden abilities, Flower Veil is a good pick since it prevents ailments and stat debuffs on grass-types which is a good anti Amoongus option. Thick Fat is also a decent alternative to increase sustain as well as Grassy Surge and Harvest. Good additional moves to add are Earth Power, Grassy Terrain, Power Whip, Rage Powder, Stun Spore, Poison Powder, Spore/Sleep Powder (one or the other), Pollen Puff, Dazzling Gleam, Moonblast, Floral Healing, Sweet Kiss, Encore, Calm Mind and Amnesia.
With meganium it should be grass/rock, it would sky rocket in usage in the main games and it would be like a better cradily. Make it more physical than specially offensive so it can get stab rock moves also a rock version of grassy glide in sand while also giving it sandstream as an ability
Keep it pure grass make all starter Pokémon 550 base stats and every starter Pokémon will get a unique signature move maybe even 2 of them. Hp 80/atk 82/ def 105/sp.atk 93/ sp.def 110/ speed 80. Added moves sleep powder, stun spore, earth power, extrasensory (from nuzleaf) and signature move maybe like leech seed and salt cure combined damaging move. New abilities. Overgrow grass type moves get buffed at 50% below hp now, buff lead guard to no status moves will work on it.
Personally I wouldve just been boring and given it triage with draining kiss wish, and giga drain and possibly calm mind for set up, then you could also justify its longevity in a battle among giving it some crazy good priority

Some stuff I noticed about this rework that I am not fully on board with. 1. Toxicroak's poison typing makes fairy attacks deal neutral damage, and posion is 4x effective on grass/fairy, so Meganium likely does not win that matchup 2. I think that looking at the viability in-game is general and the overall viability throughout is important, but I think you could also have shown the difference in the number of fights that Meganium can cover after the buff as opposed to before. 3. Sappy Seed and Nature's Madness are not staples for Grass/Fairy types, as the former is a Let's Go move that has not been seen outside of that game and the latter is exclusive to the Tapus from Sun and Moon. Similarly, Jungle Healing, Fairy Lock, and Floral Healing are all exclusive moves as well, though I could see some of them (Floral Healing, specifically) working for Meganium 4. Minor thing, but you included Strange Seam in the status section despite it being a damaging move Overall, I think this video is solid and provides an interesting look at a stronger Meganium and how that could affect the balancing of the base game. There is definitely more to explore here in future videos, such as following up on the mention of its distinction from other defensive grass Pokemon like Amoonguss.
