Amtrak Southwest Chief #3 makes long stop at La Plata, Mo.

Amtrak's Southwest Chief makes its nightly stop in La Plata, Missouri on January 7, 2011. The train showed up early and had to sit for a while, and the conductor thought I was the station attendant, and tried to hand me a package. I wish the train had shown up about three minutes earlier, then I could've seen the eastbound freight passing behind it. You should still be able to hear the freight though!

While my son was dispatching for the local sheriffs office in SW Kansas (town of about 2,200 population), the SW Chief had to stop at the Main St crossing and transfer a passenger to an ambulance to go to the local hospital.

4:09 The female conductor Candace was on all 4 of my trips from KS to CA, very nice person. Haven't been on Amtrak for a bit, I wonder if she still works there?

Well it's just how the station and the cars are built. Its also not Amtrak's responsibility to fix those older platforms because BNSF owns these tracks.
