As a greek..his information is so accurate and just...so well explained...I approve this channel 100% , I hope all people who plan to come here see his videos before coming, even I have subscribed (coz I'll go to Santorini). But yes he explains everything soooo well and gives us great information. Thank you!!!
My wife and I visited Santorini last month, Sebi vids were a complete guide, I recommend everyone is planning to visit Santorini to watch all videos about it. It will definitely be easier trip.
Our trip was so great there in santorini, you know why? Because of you MR. SEBBI, thank you so much for all of those tips and tricks you've share to us its really helpful 👌👌👌
My favourite Santorini food is a gyros pita (that's what they call it) from the stand on the north side of the main square of Fira, on the road to Imerovigli. I think they're called Bayiatiko. I've first been there in 1985 and have been going there each time I was in Santorini, and they're still good.
Kalimera Sebastian. Just wanted to say a massive thank you for your information. I still see so many folk getting the terminology about "Souvlaki" pitta, Gyros etc wrong. I feel well prepared now, for when I go back in May next year x all your videos are amazing, so many would benefit by seeing them before going.❤
We had the most amazing time in Santorini because of everything we learnt after watching videos !! THANK YOU we can’t wait to return to Santorini it was fabulous 😊
Hi Sebastian, thanks for your videos they are all very interesting !! Just to let you know : In greek the word "souvlaki" means "small skewer " (usually of pork or chicken). Actually, souvlaki and kalamaki are the same thing. The difference comes from the region where in north of Greece we call it souvlaki and in south of Greece we call it kalamaki. So you order first a pita then what kind of meat you want inside (usually : gyros, souvlaki/kalamaki or bifteki wich is a meatball) and then what kind of dressing (fries, onions, tomatoes) and sauce you want (ketchup, mustard, tzatziki, tirokafteri, rosiki,...) I hope this helped you, thank you again for your videos :)
Thank you so much for this information I've been to Santorini 3times on cruises never had the pleasure of staying over to see the sun sets, I didn't realise there was so much going on there its my favourite Greek island it really is the jewel of the med
I had lamb souvlaki in Athens, as well as chicken and pork (I had them practically everything 😂) and I always had it with everything (which I guess is because I have had enough Turkish kebabs). I loved Athenian sauce, it was a mild mustardy, but sweet taste. Loved the food 👌🏼
We took your wonderful night Oia tour, then took your advice on restaurants from the video. Karma was wonderful, and great for vegetarians! Favorite meal of our trip. Thank you!
Lettuce on a Gyro is for Americans. Yiasou Sebastian, love your channel. My wife and I are planning a trip for next year. Been 30 years since I was in Greece. Yiasou. My uncle had a bakery on Salamina, man, the memories! 🇬🇷
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen! I have been wondering how to order during my upcoming trip and your step by step instructions were PERFECT!!! Thank you!
Once again, Bravo! You’re videos are the best. “Sunsets restaurant” at the top of Oia is our favorite place and the lamb ribs at KASTELI is the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
Souvlaki are common in Chicago due to Greek immigrants but due to a low carb diet I eat it without pita. Now I know how to order. Lamb is outstanding and is the standard here.
When I lived in Athens in the 80s, slouvaki was the meat on stick and didn't come with pita; Gyro was gyro meat in pita -gyro plate was without pita. Never heard or used the term kalamaki in the 2 years there and eating gyro almost every day. Also, gyro with pita never had french fries on it - only tomato, onion and tzatziki. Not sure when the fries become such a thing.
After your masterclass on how ordering a slouvaki, I would definitely choose a slouvaki with lamb and "everything" (except onion but replaced by more tzatziki, lol).
I am so happy I find your channel before my travel to Santorini and Athens in october, very well explained videos and good advices. Thank you and continue on the good job. We will for sure book a tour with you.
Hello Sebastian, hope you can read this comment. I am a PWD from the Philippines using two crutches to be able to walk. I am visiting Athens via Royal Caribbean Cruise this October. When reviewing vlogs that can help me during our travel, there's limited info about accessibility for seniors and PWD except at the Acropolis where the Ministry of Athens and another vlogger provided info about accessibility for the physically challenged. This is the reason why I usually avoid group excursions so as not to cause delays during the actual tour. All my travels are mostly DIY from booking flights, and accommodations to exploring the place. Hope you can come up with content featuring this information. Thank you very much.
This was a good video, but a few things from someone who has been to Santorini 16+ times. 1) I'm not a fan of Lucky's at all. Nick the Grill and Korvounaki are my souvlaki go to. 2) Great call on Family for a classic late night pizza slice. Considering the price and location, they still put out a high quality product that doesn't disappoint and uses good ingredients and that excellent wood fired oven. 3) Santorini has an awesome local cuisine, unlike most of the heavy tourist islands, and it is done best in restaurants. The best ones are quite reasonable in price, like Ouzeri and Mexati Mas. Street food is nice, but don't miss out.
You explain the situation of making more money for a sit down restaurant but still they should sell gyros ,for 7.95 at a profit margin ,gyros are 10 dollars in america why not 10 dollars in greece.thanks for your help today with explaining everything.🙏👍
For spicy food the champ is Skordalia 😂😂😂😂 or Alliada as it’s called in Kephallonia which is the island and only spot in Greece where you can find the 💪💪💪💪 stronger one.
Your videos have been super helpful for planning our upcoming trip to Greece! I was wondering if you would please make a food video like this one for Athens?
Ha, last September at the end of the tour you gave us, we asked for a good food place as we were a bit peckish, you pointed us right at Svoronos! We are writing down all the destinations you're talking about in these videos and will come back soon! Krys&Rui

His 3rd recommendation, Karma, was WONDERFUL and had a dozen vegan options with hearty protein and veg mixes. Highly recommended! And FalafelLAND in Thera is a great veg/vegan place that's cheap, fun, and lots of options.

Since my partner is allergic to gluten, are there any gluten-free bakeries and restaurants in Santorini or places that serve gluten free options? Thanks.

Your videos are so informative, thank you! Can you please share some places where gluten-free options are available, preferably in Fira and Monolithos?

The Culinary Letdown: A Californian Quest for Gourmet in Greece: When our food-obsessed group, proudly wearing our Californian foodie badges, decided to embark on a culinary journey to Athens, our spirits were as high as the ancient Acropolis. The land that gifted the world democracy surely had a plethora of flavors awaiting us. Instead, we were met with a flavor plateau that left us yearning for more. The perpetual offering of souvlakis with unapologetically stale bread became a predictable fixture of our Athenian dining experience. The red and green bell peppers dolmas, while vibrant on the plate, echoed a monotonous tone on our palates. We couldn't help but wonder: Where was the fresh baked bread warm from the hearth? Or the comforting embrace of a hot soup or the gentle warmth of a well-brewed tea? Aspects that should have been staples in such a storied land. Ironically, back in the Golden State, our local Whole Foods flaunts an olive bar that is reminiscent of a mini Mediterranean festival. Yet, in Athens, supermarkets seemed to treat olives with casual indifference, limiting their variety and essence. Having explored more than 80 establishments across mainland Greece and its islands, our enthusiasm began to wane. We found ourselves booking a hasty weekend retreat to the gastronomic haven of Antalya, Turkey. And what a relief that was! Turkey, with its rich culinary canvas, proved to be a stark contrast. The food was not just food - it was art, it was a story, it was, dare we say, seductive
Thanks for the advice. We're heading to Santorini next week. Curious about the vegetarian food spots. Already saved the falafel place and the karma restaurant ☺️ any other good spots? Thx!

Sorry I dont know about any gluten free places in Santorini
"Difference between gyros and kalamaki" αδερφέ, these are fighting words, be careful next time you go to Thessaloniki 🤣 Otherwise, well said I enjoy your videos!
The North Greece naming is the right one.
But us people in Athens do not care and call it all Souvlaki
Whats the difference between souvlaki and kalamaki?
For Northern Greeks :
- Souvlaki = meat stick
- Kalamaki = straw (like a paper straw)
For Southern Greeks :
- Souvlaki = wrap with everything inside
- Kalamaki = meat stick
In Santorini, they use a mix of both. So its better not to use the word "souvlaki" coz you might get sthg else than you wanted.
If you want a meat stick, say kalamaki.
If you want a wrap, say pita.
Thank you for your videos! I saw you have a vegan video. Would love to see a video with gluten free tips!
