My buddy has a 06 cateye, he’s got speed engineering long tubes, going into 3 inch true duals with high flow cats, bullet mufflers, and an x pipe. In my opinion it sounds awesome! It has a quiet idle, but when you step on it or rev it, it gets really rowdy, pretty poppy, but not raspy at all, sounds really great at full throttle too!
I bolted shorties on my 4.8 because, well, 4.8. No performance boost but sounds great. Easy Peasy, 3 hrs. Worst part was the manifold/ cat bolts. One manifold bolt broken, used an extractor socket, and chased threads on the other sid. I really enjoy seeing you have fun with your babies. Sound mean!
Can you tell me if the O2 sensors would have something to do with making your truck run bad because my truck had 4 of them but I only put two one in each header
With your post cat o2s you can just unplug those but your main o2s are necessary for the health of the motor and getting a wideband o2 will make tuning alot easier
Haha the old broken header bokts..boots... I have done about a dozen header and custom exhaust swaps on these trucks... I always get them out while the heads are hot. Also if you bust the steering bolt loose you have way more room dropping the driver side in. I ended up buying a builder's kit and making my own cat back. Also welded all the joi ts and put on v bands... the entire exhaust comes out only removing 4 v bands and nothing else. Good stuff man welcome to the club. The performance mods will never end now I warn you! Also some are chromosomes header bolts 12 point head will be worth the 35 dollar price.. other bolts rust and break. As far as the smell I put a 3" kooks 300 cell high flow cat where the y pipe merges and a 14" magnaflow Muffler and it sounds perfect with no smell. Also a solid custom tune would be good. Canned tunes are not worth the money. FYI the port in the back is for a wideband...
very good install man. I got lucky with my old 04, only 1 broken stud, and I had a stud retraction socket I put on it and spun it right out. gonna assume you welded nuts to the broken studs or did the EZ out and drill method. it took maybe 4hrs to get it all together, went pleasantly amooth. I'd love to put these on my 05 SS truck with a Corsa exhaust system. That frame on this GMC looks impeccably clean, what a great looking truck.
You should put a Moroso Spiral Flow race muffler on it, it will quiet it down just a little bit and give it a nice deep smooth tone. I had one and a 2011 Silverado with a 5.3, it did still have cats but it sounded Amazing. Anyways I love the videos man, keep up the Awesome work👍🏻💯
Yes do the 3 inch when you get caught up. I have the same brand but with the x pipe instead of the y pipe with full 3 inch all the way back. I have 2017 gmc sierra at4 with the 6.2 and yes it was very loud no cats no mufflers. I installed 2 super 10s to try and tone it down to a deeper note it did but still not deep enough have had quad 3inch tips changed those to 4inch tips but still not satisfied so I will try 6inch tips next I will try and keep you updated. As far as sound it very loud still but not so much like a truck sound should be ive been dumping lots of cash at this set up to try and find that sound I'm looking for very hard to do because no one has done what I did exactly only see few videos of similar set ups but nothing exactly like what I did. Yes brother love the videos keep them coming!!
I just bought the same year color z71 ext cab truck! Bout to slap some headies and exhaust on her thought it would be hard to get some on 4wd but this is what i wanted to see
Long tubes into that 3” allllllllllllllllllllll the way back! Or have a shop take out that “y” pipe and run the headers some high flow cats and true dual??!!! That would be my favorite and would make Chomper live up to his plate! 😈
These Speed Engineering plug wires are specifically designed to not burn on the headers. I’ve had Speed Engineering longtubes and plug wires on my LS C10 for a while now and they are perfect
Same I don’t like the clap I have the same set up I’m thinking of getting another muffler .. i only found one sensor location for the sensor 2 is that normal
I can’t wait til you get a cam for chomper! Honestly if it was me I probably would have put the headers on while/ after the cam so you could have got it tuned for everything all at once.
Make sure you get the front camber fixed. My truck was like that after i bought it and it chewed thru the sidewalls of my first set of open country tires before i fixed it
Always do exhaust manifold bolts when the engine is hot. Dorman makes a bracket that bolts to the head and holds the manifold down. Been running one for ever on the truck.
Just zip tie the back o2s up out of the way until you tune. Might avoid cel that way. Truck just needs to see a difference between uppers and lowers to verify “cats are working “
@@ryanleach3936 it can. Only thing the rear o2 does is measure efficiency. Just needs to see that the air behind the cat is cleaner. Seen it work. Have seen it also not work

Need copper anti seize and to wipe the headers off with a rag and some alcohol. If you don’t bolts will just seize again and the oils from your fingers will burn in to the pipes anywhere you touched them.
Hey lmfscrew just curious why you didn't go with the 1 7/8 inch ling tube? Are they too large for a stock truck or just what you wanted? I'm looking at getting them for my 99 with a truck norris cammed 4.8.
Was planning on speed engineering .was just concerned about 1-7/8 rubbing. Couldn't really see too good but what air intake are you running. Was thinking about going k&n
Cut the y pipe at the merge leaving you with two 3 in pipes and have the true duals connect there and continue, and throw two small mufflers on, one for each pipe, i have the same headers with an X pipe true duals and a flowmaster super 10, if u want to hear that
i’m interested in hearing it. my exhaust right now is true duals all the way back but i’m wanting to put long tubes on. do you think long tubes with true duals and no x or H pipe would be too loud?

What have you done to your dash cluster? Looks so much better than the stock one
Take a nut and weld it on the broken stud through the center of the nut and remove it just as it cools the weld will not stick to the aluminum head
does this bolt on to the rest of the stock catback exhaust via the same type of flange or is welding required
Are they still working good for you? Hows the line on pass side?

Did he/you both gaskets, the one that came with it and the ones he/you bought?
