Hey guys! Thank yall for checking this how to out! If yall don’t feel confident enough after this video, message me on instagram @jackstandbuilds to get a quote on this job or any other LS/LT performance needs!
Bro made this shit look so quick & easy, i thought hey its a 47 minute video this should take me no more than 4-6 hours & here i am 10 hours in just getting the heads off, everything's been done the right way so far though & its all thanks to this vid
Man this is the only video I could find where they don’t time lapse the actual tear down and assembly, very in depth. I’m bookmarking this for when my cam comes in 💯💪🏽
Only 1 step missed.... Installing the harmonic balancer b4 tightening the timing cover bolts. Leave the bolts loose to allow the harmonic b oil Seal to center around the balancer then tighten timing cover. This helps to prevent leaks prematurely
Great vid, thanks for posting. It's been a while since I've torn an engine down, to bare block, and this brought back good memories. I've been thinking about camming my 5.3 sierra, you might have just pushed me over the fence. Thanks bud, appreciate all you put into this.
Like the video and all the explanation and all, hope to be able to do this one day and be able to open up my shop keep up the good work shout out from phx az
Great job and great insight for the beginner like me that prefer to do things myself to make sure it's done right and less costly towards my projects..thank you for taking the time to share 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆
What I appreciate is you show the things that people don't like "oh this clip right here is pose to be just like this" like dawg u a real one and u did this in great detail ima come back to this video when I need it for mine I got a salvage youkon for 800 and it got front end damage the engine is fine but the rad and the peice that holds the rad is fucked definitely need new side panels on the front and a new grill and bumper but it's cool tho because the biggest bonus with this car it has all the wire for a big music system already installed so I definitely will make the most out of this car I do love it alot
Very well Done buddy. I thought this video would be filled w distractions like the funny ROOSTER. Fun & made to watch. Great job. Please do a video on how to truly set top dead center some day or direct us to a current video u have on that subject. Thx again
Im doing a cam swap aswell, i have the timing chain dot to dot, does the harmonic balancer have to go in any specific way to not throw off timing? ( mine only has 3 holes as "markings")Thanks
@@osoquanrunnit4372 It did not go as smoothly as his did. I took my time, and took some pictures for reference, but I still fought it. It's back together and runs good. But I would definitely let someone else do it for me if I was to do it again.
what cam did you use and are you willing to do it again? I have a blown head gasket and ticks for the first couple min on cold start only. 04 Silverado with 5.3L in Jacksonville Fl area. - lol
Pretty much the same thing only addition you would be doing is deleting DOD and changing the dod lifters they also come with a timing chain tensioner that also needs to be replaced.
tighten her with an impact and call it a day. (kidding ofc) usually you can find that stuff for the specific part, just takes a little while to do if you have a bunch of parts.
Gdamn didn’t know it you had to take down the whole thing. I’m not a car guy btw. Always wondered how people install cams. How much would it cost to get a cam installed?
Hello, i have an 04 silverado 5.3 with a bad lifter, been using lucas every oil change and it helps out tremendously with the lifter cold start knock but i would want to change lifters and cam in the future… any recommendations on what are some good lifters and cam? I want something slightly more aggressive than stock but not over the top or too loud to where i can still run stock tranny and stall… any suggestions would be appreciated! 🤙
I have an 04 and I put the truck Norris cam in, it doesn't require converter, I built it little over a year ago with stock trans. I used ls7 lifters but they are on the pricey side, just get dual exhaust with dual mufflers and it shouldn't be too loud
Ok so question, I'm getting ready to put in a new cam on my '01 suburban 8.1l. I'm trying to figure out if I can just swap the cam and put new springs and the rockers and lifters or if I need to do all that as well as put in a new camshaft gear and cam pos. sensor. Would you happen to know?

Great video! So it doesn't have to be a TDC when you start tearing it apart?
What cam did you go with ,stage 2 or 3

Helped my uncle with his cam swap and had to take his oil pump off too had hard time trying to take that bolt off bottom of oil pump😂
Great video👍🏾
Nice job 👏. What stage cam is that?
Best one I've seen yet. The only thing I disagree with is the crank pulley install. Otherwise very good video. Keep up the good work.
Nevermind the angle grinder to the head
Both of those methods are super sketch but good job other than that bro.
yea only prob i thought of was the air hammer the thrust washer lol

Great 🎉 video!!
youre the man fr
What head gaskets are those sir? Also you just put them in dry no sealant correct?
Gonna do this once I have a house and motorcycle
How about the transmission torque converter does that needs to be change too ?
Did you get the heads re surfaced at a shop? You mentioned something about them in the video but just to be sure
If you work on others vehicles how much would you charge for a cam install with new springs and rods ?
thats a sick yukon
Good job young buck!
Needed this info for my Escalade 6.0
It's the same thing. All these truck engines are about the same.

dont even think about putting up a gen 4 cam swap video or i might get a little ballsy and try mine out 😂 good video man 💪🏻

they’re pretty much the same like that guy said ^
Great video
No torque sequences bro? Also doest the truck automatically go to TDC once turned off
What cam did you use and I would have changed out for new timing chain and put new new pump
What type of spring compressor do u have bro?
So is tuning afterwards not necessary at all?
do you need to tune the truck? After cam, lifters, intake?
Cool vid man where can I find that Dorman exhaust bracket
Part number is dorman 917-107
Nice work
Keep posting
Good job!
what determines if you need different valves for clearance?
Niceeee....aye bro I remember in one of ur videos u used some product too clean ur parts.
Yeah man it's called oil eater, I've been using purple power lately but the oil eater is good!

Do you know whats the biggest size cam i can add to my 4.8 on my Silverado without changing out my stall
I wish you had the torque specification for every boats that you install other then that great video

Did you have to use a torque wrench any?
