I have a 4l60e transmission in my Chevy Silverado. I had a shift solenoid go out. When researching solenoid repairs I found out about Corvette Servos. I changed out all 4 solenoids, changed the filter, changed the fluid, and put a Corvette Servo in. What a huge difference. No more lag from 2nd to 3rd which was a big problem before the shift solenoid went out. Highly recommend doing this upgrade.
This is a fantastic upgrade for any stock 4l60e. You get a bump in the 1-2 shift, but its meant to fix the lazy 2-3 shift. Makes the 2nd gear band release quicker and it doesnt fight the 3/4 clutches, which saves the 3-4 clutch pack. Great for performance, towing, or even lifted applications.

I can see a lot of confusion here. That servo applies pressure to the band which applies in 2 and OD. The corvette servo has a bigger diameter apply piston. Therefore it applies more pressure to the band. In other words you will see a firmer shift in second due to increased pressure/less slip. The main problem with that transmission is the 3-4 clutch pack. I like those pinless pistons too - but I built my last personal 4L with a 3" band, the full Gil Younger SK and the analog TCC apply with a higher stall convertor (custom), a hard shell, 4-pinion intermediates and the "Corvette" servo. It was a hella hard-shifting unit and I had to take the Corvette servo out to make it driveable again! It was gonna bust something in the drivetrain if I let it go on slamming that hard all the time! Be careful what you ask for!
@SurferJoe46 Not sure what your goal was with the unit, but I doubt you needed a large band. You can soften up the band apply by drilling the holes smaller, vette servo was not the issue
I know very little about auto transmissions. But my 4l60e on my '05 Yukon XL crapped out a few years back. Over 200k on it. I had a local shop rebuil it, and I told them to spare no expense. Now it shifts smooth when I'm being gentle and really smacks the gears when I'm stepping on it. The downshifts are fast and smooth, too. I've got some 37's and a 4 inch lift currently. The T case hasn't blown yet, nor has the rear end.
I’ve got a 4L80E transmission, it seems fine as far as shifts. Glad I don’t have the 4L60 lol I’ve always loved the way it shifts… if only it had more gears…
OMG. We use to swap those things out all the time back in the early 90's. It's been so long since I've swapped one I forgot about how many I've swapped. 🤣
I had a Corvette shift servo installed for a couple years and it made the shifts feel much better. Then while towing I blew up my forward sprag gear. After I got the transmission rebuilt my shifts were so harsh I though it was going to break my neck or something in the driveline so I actually removed the Corvette shift servo and installed the stock one. Not sure if my transmission builder installed a shift kit or what but after the rebuild I no longer feel like I need the Corvette shift servo. Also those black seal rings you thought were broke or ripped are supposed to be like that. They work similar to piston rings to keep the pressure from pushing past the seal.
somebody didnt reset the TAP, so it kept the old settings would be my guess... driving rebuilt with wore out parameters. I wouldnt put a vette servo in it, its a truck, and it shifts fine.
There are many good comments here with helpful advice which I applied when I servo. When I ran into the not enough clearance issue, I thought better of it and dropped one side of rtrans crossmember down instead of denting the body under the truck. Still not sure how he did that though.
i always love the tailgate cam, i remember when you did the exhaust videos for that white gmc obs you had that video really helped me with my obs exhaust lol.
That needs to be installed with the bottom end of the trans removed. Need access to the band clamp. There is a clearance check requirement between the servo rod end and the band. Most of them need to be grounded down a bit (the rod end of the corvette servo), or when the trans heats up, the band will rub against the drum and wear the band out faster.
@@waitandbleed55 Thermal clearance is required. If you don't know how to rebuild this transmission, don't install the servo or you can buy a book and learn. There are also good youtube videos.
I installed this on my 02 silverado with a 4.8 and 3.73 gears makes a decent difference also the truck feels lighter under throttle carries more of its own weight extended cab 4x4!!

i had a 96 F150 shortbox stepside auto tranny. before 2000 you could buy a 3 wire switch that attached to the tranny in less than an hour, maybe even 15 min and it had a 3 position switch, stock, street and race strip in strreeet you could definitely feel the difference , it was unmistakeable and race mode wasnt really useable on the street if you ever had any kind of neck injury, which i had 10 yrs prior, had some minor whiplash that i could feel again in race mode that was hands down the cheapest easiest to install mod i ever bought that actually worked!
Nice clean truck, man. I had to comment, because I heard your tire noise and it took me a second to realize that was the tires. It sounds exactly like the what my rear end has been doing for a year, lol. I have a replacement, I just haven't had the time to start swapping it in.
Cool video, I wonder if this upgrade would improv my 03 Yukon SLT? I'm going to look into it. I heard you mention something about tuning your truck. Do you have a video about that? Thanks!
GM. See so many of these on the back of Wreckers, broken down, usually transmission or motor. Was my favorite truck growing up but afraid to own one now. Sounds nice though, and shifts great, looks good especially underneath. Have you fixed the Headliner yet? It's a problem with a lot of cars and trucks.
Id say put a vette servo in a 4l60 that's been rebuilt or a new one. A wore out transmission, you can just reset the TAP, and it will shift great for about 2 days, till it learns all the wear in the tranny, then it will be back to normal behavior. Performance parts, generally go with new or performance components. My tired 4l60 at 423k still shifts mint, unless i put it in tow haul, then every shift up is late and comes with a BANG. I made the mistake to dump the fluid an put in dex3, oe spec, which in 2004 supposedly was revised to dex6. my conv chattered uphill, and under load, and on the highway. 15l of dex6 synthetic later its fking mint.
I tried to do this but the cap is straitght up fused to the transmission casing and I can't get it out. Anybody got any advice on how to remove with out damaging the transmission casing?
Just did this on my truck, tip 1. Don’t park on a downward slope 16 oz of transmission fluid came out, 2. When you think you got the ring on you didn’t push that mf some more. Was pretty easy but I rushed it and few problems accrued but I definitely got a new transmission fluid change after leaking 7 quarts lucky I stop at my house and leaked about an out her quart and I fixed the metal ring seal (hardest part of the job, truck moves now but at very low rpm’s I heard a squeak like at 1-5 mph and 500-1000 rpm.
@@always1k646 yep gotta get back under the truck and make sure the ring is all the way in. Push the servo at the same time and it works really good, truck had worked flawlessly but hard shifts 1-2 and 3-4 are easy.
I need help i just installed the corvette servo on mine went for a test drive and 1st and second are good but once it gets to third it doesnt shift to fourth. Did i not install something correct? Any help is appreciated i leave out of town tomorrow
I may have set a record without knowing it. My 4l60e took all of 14 seconds to shift from 2nd to 3rd. I have been able to recreate this but not to the same degree
Does this apply to a 1995 Silverado 4L60e? When tranny is cold it will usually hold in 2nd until slightly wamed up and then it'll usually work fine/shift fine into 3rd, as long as I am not stomping on the fuel pedal hard. Could this be a failing TPS? Or clogged filter? Fluid looks, smells good and is full. Does it worse when weather and fluid is cold. After warmed up well it mostly acts normal if I drive easy and accelerate slowly. Thanks!

I had this done to my Z28's when I had to POS 700R4's rebuilt. Night and day difference.
12:50 we need an updated version of that but instead of cruising, do some city driving and idling
Firm quick shifts is what you want. It helps the trans live and 4l60e needs all of it. If you use a tuner you can also bump up the psi in the trans
What’s the highest psi I can do for a stock 4L60e trans for my 02 Tahoe?
@@Marsonpika Im not sure Im not a tuner and I forget what the stock pressures are. Just putting a corvette servo will help out though and or shift kit
I’ve got a 4L80E transmission, it seems fine as far as shifts. Glad I don’t have the 4L60 lol
I’ve always loved the way it shifts… if only it had more gears…
I want my transmission to last longer I could careless about how fast it shifts...but I'm scared to break my sprag gear. Thanks for the comment.
What year the servo you used from the corvette
somebody didnt reset the TAP, so it kept the old settings would be my guess... driving rebuilt with wore out parameters.
Thank you for posting this. I am going to order one and do the same on my 2013. Hopefully the little 4L60 will survive a little while longer.
When my f150 6r80 transmission starts acting funny I just reset the computer 226,000 miles. Does Chevy not have this option?
That needs to be installed with the bottom end of the trans removed. Need access to the band clamp. There is a clearance check requirement between the servo rod end and the band. Most of them need to be grounded down a bit (the rod end of the corvette servo), or when the trans heats up, the band will rub against the drum and wear the band out faster.
I was getting ready to install one on my 4l60 until i read your comment. Could you please explain further!
@@waitandbleed55 Thermal clearance is required. If you don't know how to rebuild this transmission, don't install the servo or you can buy a book and learn. There are also good youtube videos.
It's a GM part. It will fit and should work perfectly. Hard shifts aren't always bad. It's long rough shifts you want to avoid.
Yezzzz sir , I posted about this a couple weeks ago. It made my 04 a different animal my friend. Sweet setup brother
Got a 2001 1500HD with 6.0L, just upgraded/replaced transfer case over the weekend. 290K miles and going strong
1500HD has a 4L80E
@@bigblock67camaroNegative , 6.0 with 4L60. 2500 HDs have the 6.0/4L80.
@@dayday1744 1500HD is a 2500 re badged, it has a 4L80E, I just built one for this exact truck.
They did that on my 97 Firebird Formula at rebuild, chirps 2nd and 3rd.
Thank you , just ordered one for my 84 Pontiac with the 700r4, still the exact same part number as a 08
I installed this on my 02 silverado with a 4.8 and 3.73 gears makes a decent difference also the truck feels lighter under throttle carries more of its own weight extended cab 4x4!!
Which one did you get?
@taylorshiver3284 same one he's advertising I have a video too on my "shorts" they sell out super fast on Amazon
I will be doing this alongside a tune to my rig asap. 03 Yukon with the 4.8l and 4l60e on 33's... Appreciate the vid my guy!
Good stuff. Super clear install instructions.
Can you do a tutorial on how to fix/ reglue?that headliner flapping that we all have going on?
Thanks again for all your work on Chomper and that "V8 goodness" you left us with.
Pickup a permanent glue stick. Works like money for reattaching a droopy headliner
@@bigbert1119 whats a permanent glue stick amd where do You find one
Thank you for finally doing this. Been saying to do this !
Does this only work in silverados or can in run in anything my Corolla shifts suck bum and this seems like an intriguing way to fix it
I love the video 🤘🏻 I agree it’s a great cheap upgrade.. with that being said I’m die hard Chevy fan but also firm believer if you ain’t shifting heavy you ain’t in a Chevy 😂.. so every truck Chevy I’ve ever had has had trans built and my go to list is 1.beast shell 2. 2-3 corvette servo 3. upgrade pistons 4. beefier clutch pks 5. and depending on build shift kits stage one or two nvr done a 3 but usually able to do it round 800ish on 04 and up 650ish on 03 and down and they have been stout one has been in 3 different trucks one build.. just a little adv if you pulling out and doing your self
Ohh and it also improved gas mileage about 5-10ish more a gallon my 99 sierra with 35s I was getting about 25 hwy and 20ish city depending on my foot 😂 but it was duel ex with flow masters 44 so it was hard to stay out of it
👍EXCELLENT 👍
You always make everything look too damn easy. 😂😂
Those tires are louder than your exhaust.
I’d like to see you tackle the headliner that is blowing in your ear. Probably any easy fix for you with some spray adhesive. The whole board in the center of my 2006 Sierra VortecMAX w/6.0 has started sag.
If you're going to do a tune up you should definitely get the msd coils and wires
facts. simple but great upgrade for the 5.3
ngk spark plugs as well
No on the coils. Stock LS coils are more robust then MSD.
i had a 96 F150 shortbox stepside auto tranny. before 2000 you could buy a 3 wire switch that attached to the tranny in less than an hour, maybe even 15 min and it had a 3 position switch, stock, street and race strip
in strreeet you could definitely feel the difference , it was unmistakeable
and race mode wasnt really useable on the street if you ever had any kind of neck injury, which i had 10 yrs prior, had some minor whiplash that i could feel again in race mode
that was hands down the cheapest easiest to install mod i ever bought that actually worked!
Nice clean truck, man. I had to comment, because I heard your tire noise and it took me a second to realize that was the tires. It sounds exactly like the what my rear end has been doing for a year, lol. I have a replacement, I just haven't had the time to start swapping it in.
put mudders on it, the noise will fade under another noise!!!
@@val.d1986 the replacement's been in the truck for almost a year. Besides, mudders on a stock 2wd is a little ridiculous.
Important question,. Which brand should I look for and which brand should I avoid?
Cool video, I wonder if this upgrade would improv my 03 Yukon SLT? I'm going to look into it. I heard you mention something about tuning your truck. Do you have a video about that? Thanks!
Love em or hate em, every mechanic has done both but you have to have respect for their understanding.
GM. See so many of these on the back of Wreckers, broken down, usually transmission or motor. Was my favorite truck growing up but afraid to own one now. Sounds nice though, and shifts great, looks good especially underneath. Have you fixed the Headliner yet? It's a problem with a lot of cars and trucks.
whatever you buy you will sink money into it. Afraid to buy? Buy a bicycle, you dont need a car.
3:36 is there a specific reason why you are saving and reusing the old spring? Because my transmission server came with its own spring.
Didn't see what happened to that spring he planned to reuse.
Great video! I'm envious, no rust.
I have an 02 Silverado that shifts hard 1-2 so I’m definitely gonna try this before anything else.
Love the 99-02 bubbles
Trand fluid should be cha ged every 40k and that stuff looked like it was from 1999
Good video buddy my old truck had a tune to do the same thing, but I might do this on my current truck.
This literally just happened to me put it in went to test on on my street now it got tranny fluid everywhere😂 but my leak is just the metal ring huh?
@@always1k646 yep gotta get back under the truck and make sure the ring is all the way in. Push the servo at the same time and it works really good, truck had worked flawlessly but hard shifts 1-2 and 3-4 are easy.
Does it have any problems
What you think about those cheaper 30$ ones?? Pay for what you get? I seen this one you installed is about 70-80$
I need help i just installed the corvette servo on mine went for a test drive and 1st and second are good but once it gets to third it doesnt shift to fourth. Did i not install something correct? Any help is appreciated i leave out of town tomorrow
Yup! Put one in . A little harder on U-joints. But trans will last longer
I may have set a record without knowing it.
My 4l60e took all of 14 seconds to shift from 2nd to 3rd. I have been able to recreate this but not to the same degree
Been daily driving mine like this for about a year now
Check before you put if on if you have room past the converter
How'd this upgrade hold up?
Of course you know people gotta come say you should upgrade to a manual but that's pretty dope
Thanks!
Does this work for a 4l80? Or maybe what should I look for to get the same....
Is the overdrive the same way .? Saw there is one for the overdrive too ?
i put one of these on mine when 3:4 out along with trans cooler makes big difference and keeps the slippy from doin its thing
Is 10k to much for a 06 Silverado Z71 LT3 with a sunroof and 200k miles a rip off? It’s in similar condition to the one you have here in the video.
I think it’s to much, got my 08 5.3 Silverado for 7.5k with 160k miles
@@LowNSlow5.3 ok thanks for the advice I looked at the kbb and it said it was a good deal but you can’t always trust KBB
That’s not a bad deal for an LT3. As long as it’s rust free and it’s in overall good shape
Only if it's clean, well maintained and rust free.
few years ago that would be expensive for these but in todays market thats probably about what you'll have to pay
Those mud grapps are holding that truck back. Those weigh like 80lbs each
No doubt about that
Is it just changing out the old part for a new one.Or better upgraded part.
I think I may buy a 2005 cateye, it’s 4k at a dealer. I’m 16 and currently own a 2001 f-150 like Larry but… Michigan edition… weight reduction… Trusty rusty
They are good trucks! Love my lly.
I have a question. I own a 2006 Chevy Avalanche Z71. I would like to install long tube headers with cats. I cannot seem to find any.
I’m going to do mine now great job
Good video.... Except I would have liked to see the steps to greasing up he servo.
Wow never seen someone change the servo with trans in
Does that mean that it Will waste more gas??
Damn that truck is clean asf!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I have an 05 Chevy cat eye with 310,000 miles. Will it help mine
hey so everywhere i goto to find this part its sold out or out of stock is there a link to a similar one or the same one cause i cant find it any help would be great
Is this Corvette servo compatible with 2022 GMC Sierra 4wd 10 speed 6.2 V8 transmission? Thank you!
It's been a year now, are you still happy with it?
I’m thinking about doing this would the harder shifts be worse for the transmission or better? I’m putting it on a 04 Tahoe with 37s and 200k miles
I can’t say for sure since I just installed it but I’ll definitely keep y’all updated
Less slippage is usually good... I tow so im worried about sprag gear.
Hey how has this upgrade worked for you? I have an 04 Tahoe as well
Is this upgrade available for the 4L-65 as well?
You think that’s something try modified accumulator springs boost valve, and sonax super hold servo
As a man who's owned and been around plenty of these, if you have one that still works, leave it alone. The older they are, the more fragile they are. Play at your own risk
Always love the videos
What exhaust are you using it sounds awesome, will mine sound like that if I don't have headers
What size/type tires are those?
Hello..I just bought a 2004 GMC ENVOY 4.2L I-6 Engine and I think I have a 4L60E transmission (I think). Will this upgrade help me as well, or is it just for GMC Trucks?
Is there anything I should consider for the 6L80? Just realized that's what I had 🤣
01 Yukon what's the 4L 60e can I use a Corvette Servo in it
I heard that vette servo isn’t good if you’re going to be towing? What do you think?
Did you ever find out about the towing
Where did you get that 140 mph speedo ? Will it work in my 02'chevy silverado 1500hd 6.0?
I know this video is about transmission upgrade, but where did you find your grille at? Been trying to find a decent chrome aftermarket grille
