Guess who just changed HER OWN headlight on her 2006 Chevy HHR??? ME!!!! Thanks for this tutorial!
frankelijah1 I know you probably won't see this but I just have to tell you you've given me a burst of confidence. I'm going to attempt to change my bulbs on my 2006 HHR tomorrow. Wish me luck!
frankelijah1 I did it today tooooo! Stupid question though , could you turn on your lights when it was light on? Because either I fucked both up by changing 1 or the light just doesn't come on during the day even if I try
frankelijah1 I had the same problem. I had to wait until night to tell that the fix worked.
Heaven Ward there is a stick on the left side of the steering wheel, if you twist this it controls the lights
Que bueno esoooooo
I will be changing the headlight on my 2009 HHR all by myself. I'm 72 years old and continue to learn new things. Thank you so much!
Ugh, this is the best. Thank you! It might scare my dad seeing his kid work on her car like this, but he will take forever and I'm too poor to see and have someone else do it. You're absolutely the best! Thank you!
where is the fuse for a2007 HHR head light on the driver's side low beam
I just replaced the one on my 2009. You don't even have to worry about the bolts or clips on the bottom. just the one bolt and 2 plastic push pin thingys and then you can reach in and get to it. not that hard. Thanks for the video.
I had to do two bolts and two clips but you are right, not that hard. Also, thanks for the vid
Thx so much. A Mom on a budget just changed her own headlight. 💪
I've watched multiple of these videos, and no one mentions a SUPER important part. The bulb is keyed, it has 3 notches that have to fit in and turn, but one of the notches is larger than the other 2, so the bulb will only insert all the way in one of the three possible positions. If it's not working/going in/turning, pull it out and rotate 1/3 again. I've been going insane for the last hour trying to figure out why it won't go back in (I'd even pulled it out and turned it completely multiple times, must have just randomly missed the one).
Thank you for pointing that out, I just figured that out for myself.
Outstanding video! I saved myself about $146. The bulb and the tools came to about $50 tops. Thanks so much!
Firestone wanted to charge me $140!For parts and labor.! Uh, NO THANKS. $17 piece and half hour of my time and this video, thanks to you I saved a lot!
"Just press this tab right here..." *INSERT GIANT HEAD* "and the bulb comes right out!"
Yes - do not undo the side clips on the wire mount. It's less complicated than it looks and I always want to make it more complicated -- especially the darker and colder it is outside. Haha.
do you think he looked at the video before posting and thought... hmm better redo that... guys a moron 101
What a fucking idiot
Yeah the giant head didn’t help a damn thing

I just changed my own own headlight for the first time on this car. Thanks to this video. I appreciate you!
Thanks to this video I was just able to change the left headlight on my sister's 2011 HHR. The mechanics at Walmart refused to touch it.
I only had to remove the top screw and the three outermost plastic retainers. That's the three in a row vertically below the topmost screw (two facing the tire and one underneath the bumper area). This gave me enough wiggle room to do the job as the plastic piece that is secured in place by the retainers and screws is flexible.
Gewgulkan Suhckitt I'd refuse to let the mechanics at Walmart touch it.
That's an awesome video and just what I was looking for. I had a guy do this for me the first time, but I didn't pay attention to the process, so now it's my turn. This beats the hell outta the vids showing people taking off the fender and whatnot. What a pain that would be...
Awesome video thanks. Big O Tires was trying to charge me $50 buck to replace my headlight today and I done it myself thanks to your video. It only cost $18.00 bucks to get the replacement parts at Wal-Mart.
This was massively helpful. The hhr is a hard car to work on. You made it as simple as possible. Thank you. All hail the hhr God lol
Thank you so much for this video!! I had bought the replacement headlight bulbs and went to change them only to realize the conventional method didn't apply. When I took it to the local shop to see about having them changed, I was quoted nearly $100 service fee!!! Now, I can do this myself instead
Great tutorial, thank you!
Only thing I would add is to make sure the rubber seal came off with the old light bulb. Mine had stuck onto the lamp and I was mistakenly trying to put the new one on with two rubber seals. Took me about ten minutes of trying to muscle it on to realize this... Other than that, extremely easy to do.
After being a dood it your selfer, I am glad I saw your comment!
Tom Schriner Thanks for the heads up, never had one do that.

Thanks Man for the tip! I was wondering why I could not get the new bulb to lock in place. That should be in this video.
good point I found that out the hard way! but won't forget it!
That same thing happened on my brother's hhr. We could not get that thing back in and that ended up being the problem. Wretched rubber seal. We should've read the comments instead of watching over and over.
If this had been posted a couple years ago, I would have saved a bunch of time! I'd never dealt with those plastic retainers before (I'm old), and I didn't know what the hell they were. I was afraid I was going to strip them or FUBAR them. The other headlight went out yesterday, and this was a great refresher, especially the 7mm socket part. I don't know if 2009s are different, but I only had to remove one screw and two plastic retainers - then again, I've got small hands.
A simple, easy-to-understand and helpful how-to video. Thanks!
Look how far you’ve come, I bet you drive a bmw now
NOTICE TO ANYONE WHO CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE ASSEMBLY TO SIT BACK IN THE HOUSING: the rubber gasket from the old bulb is probably in the way. They detach and sometimes stay behind, making it seem impossible to get the bulb back in place. Toss it because the new bulb usually has one attached and try again. You'll probably get it in no time then.
Ken Lane is correct, I struggled to get new bulb back in, realized the old o ring was still there! Jeez!
I had to replace my headlight on New Year's Eve of this year. It took about 30 minutes longer than it should have because I forgot about that ring. The scrapes on the back of my hand are still in scab form from banging my arm around in there. Haha.
I had problems with the O ring to and the whole process was much, much, easier once I took the wheel off. The wheel was in the way badly so save yourself trouble and take the wheel off first.
I didn't have issues with the wheel being in the way as long as you turn far right or far left accordingly. Some of the screws were inaccessible with the wheel turned one way and other inaccessible with the wheel turned another. I wouldn't consider this job a snap if I had to take the wheel off. Then again, I kind of have long arms and long fingers. I could see where someone with shorter arms or fingers may have trouble.
I didn't know that about touching the glass. Thanks for the tip. Good editing as well. Thanks for the help
Thank You so much for this! My headlight just went out and was thinking we had to take the tire off again to do it! This makes it so much easier!!! 🙌🏽
Dude thank yoy so much! Every shop I went to Said they gotta take the bumper off and charge me over $150 and I already got the bulb myself
I got the same kind of response from both shops I went to. They even suggested I take it to the dealership...*clutches chest*
They charge by a book. They dont actually remove the bumper but will charge for it...
I paid 120 they said the bumper had to come off. this time I did it my self cost 12 bucks
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. It was easy, I did it in the dark with just a flashlight for illumination.
Thanks for the short cut. I just changed the both bulbs 14 months ago, using a better quality bulb, and one is burnt out already, this time seeing your vid will be much easier.
Did it -- with a pair of scissors and pliers (that's all I had). Thank you!
A guy in the comments mentioned a redundant rubber ring that might get left behind when pulling out the old bulb -- causing the new one to not fit/seat properly. he was absolutely right -- I spent a looong time trying to place that new bulb into the slot until I found that old ring (bright orange) and removed it, then the bulb snapped into place immediately.
Great tutorial and great community in the comments.
Great tutorial, to the point. I watched the other links and I find yours easier to listen to and follow.
Clear, consise video. You state and show every step without small talk or self-promotion. Subscribed. Thank You.
Luv that video. I was able to change both headlights on my Chevy 2008 HHR & it saved me $150.my mechanic wanted to take my front end apart and charge me$150. Watched your video and changed both headlights in a couple of hours.keep those videos coming.
Thank you!! Just bought a 2006 HHR and your video will come in use at some point down the road!!
Great tutorial my man. Quick easy and not a lot of tools required. 5 star!!! The Best
Thanks a bunch....worked like a charm and I did not even have to remove the 3rd bolt on the bottom!!
great video. amazes me that Chevy thought it was a good idea to put a firewall in front of the headlight assembly lol.
This video just helped my wife and I change her headlight. Very helpful!
THANK YOU!!!! Every other sight made this seem like it was a huge process.. For a girl like myself, getting to the point and cutting out all the unnecessary bullshit was extremely helpful. That's how we like to get it done!!!
Simple, quick video for an inconvenient design; I have joint issues. The video helped a bunch, thank you!
Two tools, twenty minutes, and done. Awesome and thank you.
Great video! Thanks to you I just changed my first headlight.
Perfect... Straight to the point... I can't wait to do all my headlight bulbs. I am thinking to do them all at once, so that they are all the same illumination!! P E A C E
I love these HHR's but I really don't know what Chevy was thinking here.. However this does make it easier thanks!
I have done it many times, but forgot where the screws all were, so thank you.
thank you so much I've never done anything by myself your video made it so easy it took me about 10 minutes it worked great thank you so much
Thank you sooo much, I just changed my first headlamp on my '07 HHR. It took about 20 min. (As I am slow) Next time it will be faster. The old lamp gasket did stay inside, so I just reached in and pulled it off. Thanks to those making suggestions to check this.
awesome thank you so much; probably already been mentioned in earlier post but when removing the old bulb; make sure the rubber gasket is changed too; when doing mine, I saw that the new old had one but the old one was still attached to the head light assembly. thanks again!
Great work saved me a bundle of $$$ appreciate you putting this out there!!
Thank you so very much for this,I will be using this method today to change my headlight!
Thanks for the video! I've used it several times already!
thanks for this I have a white 08 ..love my car!!! bout to change my light now
Woohoo! Bulb replaced! So easy thanks for the video!
Thank you very much for sharing the video. Made it so easy to do!
Great vid...worked like a charm..much appreciated!
Thanks for the video! Using the flat head screw driver was a bit of a pain for me--I had to loosen it then pull it off with a crescent wrench. Again, thanks for the guide!
I have a 2008 HHR--compatible with this guide.
I'm off to buy an HHR today and will be using a Dremel to make access doors inside the fender well lol. Good video
Thank you for this video. I'm raising two special needs kids and saving money is always a plus. It was so easy, I was able to do this on my own for my 2006 HHR and I'm very mechanically UNgifted:) Thanks for saving me money and thanks for helping me feel empowered and capable!
Thanks! This helped me a lot and I was able to do it on my own.
You just saved me bud. Knowledge is power!
Huge help! Saved me a lot of money!
this was very helpful. It was a pain in the ass to do it but I got done.
that was a BIG help, thank you.
Lol it's my best friends car and I'm a geek, not a mechanic. Didn't think to turn the wheel lol did everything else Ok! Thanks for this really simple instruction! I liked the page.
I installed one the other side, and it only works on low, no hi beam. But if you 'flash' the brites from steering column by hand , it works hi a nd lo! tried fuses, all good. Make sense?
i can't get the black clip of to put the new bulb in.. any suggestions??
I tried to replace my headlight but my retainers have a screw in the middle of them. I tried popping them out with a flat head but instead started bending the plastic bumper. Any advice?
Excellent! Great tuturial!
Easy. Best video.simple.not alot of talking.just action.thanks
Thanks very much for this upload!
thanks for the tutorial! easy and quick!
Awesome! Thanks for making this!
Thanks, I almost paid someone to do this! It took me less than 10 minutes after watching the video.
Thank you. Worked great!
Thanks for keeping it simple
Your video was very helpful...thanks
Awesome u saved me a lot of time thanks !!
thank you very much for uploading this video
Just finished changing mine, 2006. Not quite as simple as the video, as the fender flap was much more stiff and my hand and arm were a tight squeeze. But it worked, thank you.
Thanks!!! Like clock work, you rock!
Great video on how to change a bulb.
Great job sharing knowledge..... Thanks!
Excellent video.
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you. Although I did spend time trying to get the bulb in before taking out the old O-ring.
Is it possible to insert the new bulb in upside down? Or maybe not insert it correctly? I put the new bulb in and it did not move when I tried to wiggle it. When I turn on the headlights, the new bulb shines the light higher than the light I didn't change. The replacement bulb has a brighter downroad, which the old bulb does not have. Is this why the lights shine differently? If so, I will change the other bulb sooner rather than later.
Geeeeezze his video helped me out big time! Thank God for guys who are smarter than me!!! Some of us aren't made to work on cars! Great video for dumb ass like me!
Very useful information Thank you..
Thanks. This video helped me out.
If you touch the glass it's best to use a clean cloth dampened (not dripping) with rubbing alcohol to remove your finger oils, rather than just a dry cloth. You don't want to leave any skin oils behind. Think of it like cleaning a pair of glasses to get them absolutely spotless. If you wonder how skin oil could possibly ruin a bulb, look up "devitrification".
Excellent! Thank you sir
Thank you SO much! Do much easier with your help!!
Awesome tutorial brutha. Just make sure you have small arms lol, I have bigger forearms and like to never got the room to twist the light out and back in. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the video I just lost a headlight and needed to replace it
Thanks! The screws and pop in plastic connectors dont line up the same after the bulb change, and I had a plastic connector head break off, but at least I can see at night.
Good vid - but please GET THE FASTENER REMOVAL TOOL! Notice how he sez a screwdriver will work fine but then proceeds to use the tool... Also, you need to be wearing a rubber or cotton glove when installing the lamp - pretty much impossible to get the new bulb in without touching it.
Great helpful upload
Great video thanks:)
Great vid thanks!
I just changed both mine to LED after one went out, and although it wasn't a piece of cake, I did it! If this 68 year old gramma can do it, anyone can!
very helpful thanks,thumbs up😃
Thks a lot very helpful
Don't forget the red o-ring!
