    Everyone keeps telling me you can't grow aloe in water. And yet I started with a little sprig and now have 20 separate 15 to 20 pound plants growing in my pvc tube aquaponic pond filter for my fish pond. The roots are kept completely submerged in running water and these plants are growing like monsters!

      Can you do a video on your aloe plants?
      I have multiple small plants that i've started and wanted to see about moving them to hydroponics.

    I had a very dehydrated star aloe from the hardware store. It didn't plump up in soil, no matter what I did. I put it in leca. It's plump and it has amazing new roots growing out of the bottom of the pot!

      But why? Does it make it grow any faster by any chance? My concern is medicinal purposes. I wouldn't like to grow these in chemicals only to use a branch for treatment later down the line.

    they don't like the red spectrum of light but will thrive under t5ho lighting with bulbs in the 5000k to 6500k range.

    Any formula or recipe for nutrients for watering aloe vera hydroponics? Like which type of hydroponic nutrient in which ratio should be used when watering aloe vera? Anything might help.

    What about nutrients?When do we add those?

    • @thehydroponicsguy2379
      @thehydroponicsguy2379  5 років тому +2

      Add nutrients only when you see new leaves. Most nutrients can actually be harmful to young tender roots. Warm temperatures at the root zone is best for new root growth.

      @ryandanielable 6 років тому +4

      no mold which only grows in wet soil, less watering, more airation of the roots, less damage due to overwatering, exactly the right nutrition by mixing it directly into the water (like a proteinshake being faster than eating a steak.. less work to
      get to the goodies). Also: hipster bonus because hydroponics has been the new thing (for 30+ yrs) ^^

    • @yamyams94
      @yamyams94 5 років тому +1

      Ryan Castillo excellent answer only hydroponics centuries old, have a look at hanging gardens or similar other civilizations making farms on water.

      @@yamyams94 true, true. the hipster comment was just for fun and not to be taken too serious ;) You know what I mean, people "suddenly rediscover" barefoot walking, hiking, eating vegetarian, drinking tea over coffee.. and sell it as "omg that new thing" ^^
      so yes, hydroponics is not new. we just forgot and buried that knowledge.. like so many other things

    Looking good but why? Does it make it grow any faster by any chance? My concern particularly with this plant is I like to grow aloe vera and use for medicinal purposes. I wouldn't like to grow these in hydroponic chemicals only to use a branch for treatment later down the line. I don't think it would be healthy or treat as effectively. Anyway that's just my thoughts.

    • @ryandanielable

      honestly, I was too cheap to special pots. I just use the original plastic pots that I bought them in, they always have holes in the bottom and they are enough to connect the pebbles to the water.
      btw when you buy plants the plants usually already fill most of these pots.. all roots little soil. so I remove all the pots, wash away the soil and plant the plant (soil-less) in fine pebbles BUT I use a bigger pot than the original one. That way the plant has lenty of space, and I get to reuse all the pots I collect over the time. The smallest pots I use for seeding new plants. cheers

    Whats your soil????

    • @ryandanielable
      @ryandanielable 6 років тому +1

      the grow medium isn´t soil, but the rocks. the only thing missing here are the nutrients which you put directly into the water. with Aloe you presumably need a lot less nutrients bec it´s happy with so little.. nevertheless nutrients need to be added to the water.

    this is NOT hydroponics, you are just using hydroponic pellets. still, glad my guess was confirmed, great video...thanks!
