This was the best aloe repotting video I've ever seen. I've watched many videos on the subject because most leave so many unanswered questions but your video was informative and complete (as far as I can tell)! I've never seen the process of cutting off the leaning stem and pulling the bottom leaves. Thank you very much!
Thanks for the kind words. Also there is an update video too to show that they will survive, and i can still confirm today that they are all living and growing well
Came here looking for info to save my Old Man Aloe from college in 1986. He has spawned dozens of kids I gave away as gifts to friends. The root was about 4 ft long. Thanks for the tips. Great job.
I know its been two years… But your video just saved my 6 year old aloe that has been root bound in a 5 gallon bucked! I had 10 big girls all in that one pot! Great video
For anyone who is trying to make your aloe Vera root here is how to do it:. 1.cut the dead roots (if you have them) 2. Cut the stem to the length you want. 3.let the cuts dry (if you don't and plant it directly you will end up with a decomposing squishy aloe Vera) 4.once dried plant it in soil (in a well draining pot) 5.water it only once a week for the first two weeks. I have myself tried this and trust me now mashallah my aloe Vera plant has beautiful roots
hi. i just cut the stem and placed it so that it gets dry, But after 5 min when i was not around my mother plant it in a pot. I removed it from that pot now and cut a little bit of stem now. I don't know if it will be fine or not. can you please tell for how long will i have to keep it to dry out? also please let me know if my plant is okay or not.
Dude! This video saved me (and my aloe vera plant named "Professor Prickles"). I was tearing my brain out trying to force myself to get through other aloe vera repotting videos (they're so bad!), but your video is so incredibly well presented and properly technical (in the way I appreciate the most.)
Thank you so much for this guide. I was too afraid to just go at it without proper guidance. It's my first plant and it's survived 3 years and I'm so proud of my baby!
Thank you. Good video. I watched many aloe videos years ago and nobody ever mentioned the pot size. If only I knew this I wouldn’t have over 50 pups now because I decided to plant a group of 3 aloe veras into a huge pot together thinking they would grow bigger but instead there was an explosion of pups. 🤣 Time to juice and freeze some pulp then!
I was so sad after giving up my cat a year or two ago, so I decided to buy a bunch of aloe plants and now they’re growing up so well I need to repot like all of them I think I’ll have at least 12 different aloes so this was very very helpful thank you
I watched a couple videos before this one on the same subject. I found your video informative but not over talked. Many are too long winded about leading up to the subject but yours actually seems to get to the topic without loosing my attention. Thank you for your information and it being presented in a good way.
Thank you for this video, it's exactly what I needed! My aloe had about 4 inches of bare stem on most of the individual plants! I literally have to lay it against the window because it doesn't carry it's own weight at all anymore. Now all 5 pieces have been trimmed way down and waiting for calluses to form. Can't wait to replant them and have my old gal back to her former glory :)
Man I love your videos so much. Very informative but also I feel like you’re personally talking to me and helping me with my plants. Like we’re just two buds hanging out and swapping plant tips
Thanks for the kind words! I hope I can maintain that feeling! I also have intentions of sort of building out a website/community so me and all of you can communicate in a better method instead of through comments! Thanks for watching!
Yes! Thank you! This answered all the questions! Great job. Btw, I tried the "water propagation" technique and it totally worked. My aloe hasn't been watered in FOREVER. The leaves we're starting to thin out, so I figured I'd give it a try before repotting. Wah-lah, plump leaves! Ready for the dirt!!!
Thanks so much! My aloe has topped the pot over and I didn't know what to do. It has a large one with about 4 other smaller ones. Now I feel like I know what to do!🤗
We have the offspring of an Aloe we picked in Florida, 45 years ago. We have given away pieces over the years and we have 3 huge plants now and thank you for the well done video how to clean it up because it’s heading across the table.
Thank you very much for this very informative video! I was recently gifted an Aloe Vera plant from a senior citizen who went into a Seniors home. I have learned from you how to divide this plant! I got 9 plants out of the one very cramped pot! I plan to take a photo of them to show her how well her plant is doing! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for helping me repot an aloe I purchased at a Farmer's Market. I live in an apartment and have my plant sitting on the window sill and she started trying to get out of her pot and has 2 babies. Most videos I find are for repotting one's plants outside in their garden and neglect city apartment dwellers who love plants. Your video was easy to understand, I enjoyed your sense of humor (mixing soils to feel smart) and common sense (started rotting and took them out of the water). This is the most helpful video and I thank you so much! 💞🪴
This video saved my massawana! Pretty sure it hadn't been watered and hadn't had nearly enough sunlight. It was leggy, leaning heavily and the leaves were hollow and curling from dehydration. This one plant turned into about 15 after I was done cutting and when I put the cuttings in water for a day, they had plumped up a bit, which is when I let them callus over and then planted them. They're looking great so far! Thank you!
This was the most helpful video I’ve watched. I actually couldn’t watch most of the others all the way through, and none of them addressed the overgrown monster plants I’m dealing with. Thank you! I was worried I’d killed part of it by cutting it off without roots but it was exactly what you did, so I’m hopeful it will all work out!
This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much! I have a monster aloe vera I've wanted to split up but I was afraid I would do something wrong. This was SO easy to follow and so informative that I was able to immediately report three of the pups - and I'm looking forward to doing the rest, including the airing out part when I have more time. This was also perfect timing because I wanted to repot one of the pups as a birthday gift, and this made it so simple to do!
Thank you! I have watched 10 other videos trying to figure out how to repot a aloe with a very long bare stem and this is the only video that answered all my questions!
Thank you for all this!! I had a quick plant exchange with a friend and she gave me a very cluttered and healthy aloe plant(s). I am going to follow your tips on the bigger plant. Excellent tips and breakdown. Thank you so much!
This was so helpful! Thanks! My aloe is a neglected "monster", so seeing how you prepared your bigger plant is just what I needed to see! I hope all your "plant children" are doing great! Peggy
I found this just in time, mine is two and a half feet long hanging over the side of the pot. The rest of the pot is full of baby aloe vera and has anywhere from 6 to 7 about seven or eight inches tall. I didn't want to lose them. Thank you for sharing what you know. God bless you real good 💚
Thank you! I just repotted my plant and babies. I though maybe I killed them by not saving enough roots, but you’ve given me hope. I had one monster aloe Vera about a year old with 6 babies in one pot so the roots were all tangled together.
Wow thank you for this video! I just moved into a new place and the previous owner left a potted aloe that looked like it was on its last leg! It was so neglected. I cut all the pups from the thick dry stems, not really knowing if I was doing the right thing, and removed everything that looked dead. I left them to callous and, thanks to your vid, I’ll repot them tomorrow! Thank you! B
Thank you!! I came across a box of aloe Vera plant cuttings in my apartment complex with a sign saying they were free and to take what you needed. I have never owned an aloe Vera plant before but I’m excited to watch it grow
This is the sixth aloe vera plant that I have had. My Mom 's have been pretty for a while. She has been telling me that I have not been watering enough. This one is kind of sick but now I am going to try you steps. Thanks
Thank you! Yours is one if the only videos show that type of step on a too heavy aloe. I have a mini bell that looks nothing like most images of a mini bell. It had these stems and everyone else was showing just perfect roots. Can't wait to try cutting and callous!
Thank you! I'm a very visual learner. I feel more confident in saving a HUGE plant that a friend gave to me. Also, thank you for keeping this short and sweet with great helpful information. God Bless You and Yours!
Thank you, thank you!!!! I have two, 3 ft long aloes with the bottom halves briwn! A pup is easy to deal with, but I didn't know what the big ones could take or what exactly to do. Your's is the only video I could find that addressed this issue!
Thank you for this. I gave my boss an aloe plant 8 years ago and I came back to find it growing out of the pot all over the place! XD I'm going to get it repotted this weekend.
Awesome, thanks! I don’t know much about plants, but I had repotted into a generic potting soil, with a layer compost and then mulch, and directly under grow light and my aloe is huge! I do forget to water it often…. But just wanted to share for any readers that even when you mess up how to take care of it or which soil, chances are your aloe will do just fine! Don’t be nervous to try! Good luck!
Thankyou! I have an aloe vera in a holiday home and because of covid/lockdown it was a year before I was allowed to return. To my amazement the aloe was just fine! I now need to repot so this video is really helpful. Such a wonderful plant.
This is a great and informative presentation. I have no gift for keeping plants alive but my aloe vera survived a transplant to a larger pot. Seeing how you split yours up will be helpful when I have to transplant it again. Thank you!
I have the same problems. I did actually trow it into garbage, not knowing what the aloavera needs are. Still have the pot full of little branches of monstrous wild growing plant in same big pot. Now will do better than before.
Thank you, I've just done this with mine. Have a huge mumma one that is flowering & 10 babies that I'm now letting plump up over night in cati nutrient water & then i'll let dry & repot. Thanks for the tips, really helpful.
I replanted my primary aloe plants and took the pups off of them. The process you laid out was easy, and the smaller plants appear to be doing fine. Thanks for posting this video!
Thanks for the great little video. I have a monster aloe vera plant, abou a metre high with a 40 centimetre "root" growing out of the pot. I'll follow your guidance and cut off enough to pot that baby. I was worried about killing the poor plant, but you gave me confidence to "give it a try" ! Thank you
Huh. We grow a lot of aloe in our house and around our house because you can easily neglect it and it grows well. I never knew that the roots could be cut like this! That is so cool. Thank you so much for the video. We do have some aloe plants that we put directly in a jar of water and I rinse them every other week and refresh the water. Oddly they keep going. We sort of started that as an experiment and now they've been in the jars for years. However, I will say I did not cut the roots. I dug up the entire plants, roots and all. Thought you might find this interesting.
I bought 10 big Aloe vera plants and so many babies (clearness) and I'm pretty nervous because the pups needs a new home and the plants are root bound so your video did come in time
This was great. This is exactly the info I was looking for. I wish I could send you a picture of my monster aloe plant. About 15 years old. Lots and lots of pups, about 3 feet across. I'm almost afraid to try and divide and transplant it. Great video, keep up the good work.
Thanks for posting your ‘how to’. I’m a little nervous as I just separated 3 large pots of 10 year old Blue Elf Aloe Veras. They’re like old friends.Hope they survive. I brought a few with me that came from 10 year old plants I’d been growing in the ground I potted a few to move from the Phoenix’ desert to temperate forest in NE Blue ridge area. They’ve been prolific houseplants for a decade now. I didn’ know that I’d been propagating/treating them in the garden/yard very similarly to how you do in your video. I had so many growing in the ground I couldn’t keep up. I’d throw cuttings and pups under my giant Bougainvilleas until I could get to them! Lol I was always amazed at how well they survived and reproduced with such great neglect! Anyway, back to the pots. They were pretty narly. The pups are beyond fingerlings size!. I got 3 huge multi leaf cuttings from the mother plants; 2 huge w/ roots; 15 med-large w/ roots; 5 small (8” tall) w/roots. I don’t recommend waiting this long to divide!
Thank you for this video 🪴 my Aloe is also a monster and also 4years+ I have gotten at least 20 -25 pups out of "Big Mama" over the years (I have recently had a grandchild pup pop up) and I'm extremely nervous repotting her and cutting off all her roots. But, she no longer fits in the 20" pot. So, I'm cutting her roots and letting it callous over. 🤞🏼 Wish me luck! I really don't want her to die on me! Thanks again for your help and making the video
Ok I i just pulled off the bottom leaves and juiced the aloe vera gel out the best I could. Also cut off the bottom of the plant with roots because the plant stem was way too long...Now my plant is resting on a towel and I'll wait for the bottom to callous over! Yay thanks for sharing this method :) Also I had the aloe in a gigantic terra cotta pot--I didn't know downsizing will help the plant produce pups! I'm going to look for a smaller pot now so I can give my friends plant babies.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been researching how to fix my top heavy aloe and your video explained in detail. I've had the aloe for about 4 years so I'm really hoping this work and she stays alive. You have a new follower!
I use each of your methods… I had 6 plants growing from one pot, my original aloe was 4 years old and when I tried separating them all I believe there was a lot of root rot but the plants were all thriving so I just did my best, hoping to not lose it😅
Thank you so much for all the info in your video. I am going to use the hydration technique, as well as the cutting and cleaning to save my friends aloe which has about 5 aloes hanging over the side of the pot, and another 4 pups all in a 4" pot without any drainage! Based on what you said, I figure it was very dry, bcos I poured 12-16 ozs of water until I could see water at the top of the pot yesterday and to my surprise the soil in the pot was still quite dry today. This evening I poured in another 12+ ozs, and it all disappeared into the pot. I guess the plants are just sucking it all up. I am going to check it tomorrow morning and then use your technique to cut off the hanging parts, hydrate the poor things while in full indirect sunlight, bcos the color of the leaves seems to have improved dramatically in good light, and then let them callus over, before re-potting. Did your plants grow good roots?
New plant mom here. My aloe has so many roots that I was thinking of trimming them but after watching your video, I'm going to keep them so it can become root bound and maybe I'll get some pups!
@@TechplantChannel so quick question…. I repotted my Aloe and I can see where, although their main hue is green, they’re slightly starting to turn brownish. Did I do something wrong? And how do I fix it? I did not water the Aloe when I repotted as the soil was already moist
When I say, this video was everything I needed to accomplish my goal. It was and then some. I wanted to record myself as I followed you step by step but I'm not there yet. I have no Idea of how to run a UA-cam channel. Thanks so much.
Need a video showing the outcome, I can't find it. I didn't realize it but this video is what i NEEDED as I have an aloe in a small pot but looks good but I also have one that's at least 3' tall (apparently I wasn't giving it enough light). So thank you for this piaget video!!
I just repotted my Aloe Vera plant a few days ago. I didn't pack the soil in, but hopefully they will make it. I was able to get 4 additional plants from the one big overgrown one. I will go back and add some additional soil. Maybe I need to take them out and start over by packing in the soil. I should have thought about you tube before I repotted☺.
I was hoping to find this very video and came across yours. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find!. I have a monster, Aloe, that is leaning in the window. Your directions, both video and audio, were very basic and clear. 👍🏻 Thanks for this video. And now you have a new subscriber! 😁🙌🏼👊
My aloe is probably about 20 years old. I’ve had to re-pot it multiple times over the years & given many pups away. Once I made like 8 different small pots with pups to give away & it needs to be done again. I left it outside one winter like 15 years ago & it must have frozen because it turned brownish but it managed to recover. It has bloomed once. I’d love to see that happen again.
It surprised me when it bloomed. Arrived home after dark one night & saw a tall shoot coming up out of aloe pot. I figured it was some kind of weed. Looked at it the next day to discover it was about to bloom. That was probably 13 years ago.
i waited like a week or 2, they dont really have roots to suck up a lot of water so I put a very small amount. probably like 1/4 cup right at the base. Even now almost a year later, I still hardly give them 1/2 - 3/4 cup of water right at the base like every 2 weeks
I was taught with succulents that you put in like a C a skewer or toothpick and if soil comes out like a chocolate cake moisture and wait to water it but owls need a little bit more than succulents in my opinion even other similar family
Thanks for the informative video. I have a very leggy aloe vera and need to propagate it badly. You gave me some good ideas. I plan to give away some of propagations to family and friends. Spread the love. :)
singinrainbow yes I did the cut off of long stemmed aloes. Two I have with water and 6 I waited till they calloused over but unsure about when and how much to water in the beginning. I saved my jade cuttings last minute by pulling them out of the soil I put each one in once I heard about root rot. It can take up to a month or more to get roots. This is not a quick process like flowers lol. Good luck happy planting
Interesting! I will definitely try the water soaking before the callous forming. I have a "Big Mama" with many pups that I need to deal with, but I'm afraid of root rot so keep putting it off.
Thank you, that's the best compared to the rest that never tell you the soil mix. ❤

Wonderful!
Sir, you answered every single question I had in this one video..Thank you.
Happy to help!
Thank you
Thank you for this video. I saved a big aloe plant from beside the dumpster. Found four babies in there. :)
This is the best video of the 10 I watched on reporting aloe Vera. It answered all my questions.
Thought you might find this interesting.
thats extremely interesting, ill have to give it a shot!
I bought 10 big Aloe vera plants and so many babies (clearness) and I'm pretty nervous because the pups needs a new home and the plants are root bound so your video did come in time
Awesome, I hope it works out for you!
This was great. This is exactly the info I was looking for. I wish I could send you a picture of my monster aloe plant. About 15 years old. Lots and lots of pups, about 3 feet across. I'm almost afraid to try and divide and transplant it. Great video, keep up the good work.
Fantastic video. I have a deep root problem as it matured. Good to know I can cut at the base.
yup! all mine are still alive to this day!
I thank you and my aloe vera babies thank you!
Wonderful! I hope they all grow nice and strong!
Thank you for this video 🪴 my Aloe is also a monster and also 4years+
I have gotten at least 20 -25 pups out of "Big Mama" over the years (I have recently had a grandchild pup pop up) and I'm extremely nervous repotting her and cutting off all her roots. But, she no longer fits in the 20" pot.
So, I'm cutting her roots and letting it callous over. 🤞🏼 Wish me luck! I really don't want her to die on me! Thanks again for your help and making the video
Good luck!!
Thank you! Very very helpful! ☺️ helped me repot my 12-year-old aloe vera plant
Glad it helped!
So helpful and to the point. I appreciate you showing each step so clearly. Thanks for this!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been researching how to fix my top heavy aloe and your video explained in detail. I've had the aloe for about 4 years so I'm really hoping this work and she stays alive. You have a new follower!
Thanks! Good luck on your attempt it should go smooth!
It worked! My plant is thriving again and I got a pup. Thank you!!
I havent dug them up but maybe ill make a video about it, they are all alive and growing, its been about a year i think so they must have roots
New plant mom here. My aloe has so many roots that I was thinking of trimming them but after watching your video, I'm going to keep them so it can become root bound and maybe I'll get some pups!
Thank you so much ! I have a very too heavy Aloe that has flopped over . Now I know what to do ! 👏🏻👏🏻excellent video
Fantastic video! I’m going into repotting my aloe more confidently now. Thanks!
Awesome! Good luck!
@@TechplantChannel so quick question…. I repotted my Aloe and I can see where, although their main hue is green, they’re slightly starting to turn brownish. Did I do something wrong? And how do I fix it? I did not water the Aloe when I repotted as the soil was already moist
Thanks! I have a large patch outside the front door and someone is coming to get some. I will share this video with him.
Awesome, thank you!
There's also an update video almost a year later! Thanks for watching!
I’d like to know how each of the aloe plants faired. Good video, as others noted it’s the best so far I’ve seen as well
Great video I have a 7 year old plant becoming top heavy
Thanks. Mine is severely over grown. I gotta save it👍👍👍
Very helpful, going to sort out my plant now!
I just repotted my Aloe Vera plant a few days ago. I didn't pack the soil in, but hopefully they will make it. I was able to get 4 additional plants from the one big overgrown one. I will go back and add some additional soil. Maybe I need to take them out and start over by packing in the soil. I should have thought about you tube before I repotted☺.
you dont have to pack the soil, i just did it so wit wouldn't fall out, if yours is balanced then just leave it be!
@@TechplantChannel thanks
Thank you. Best, complete, and with the fewest words! Loved it learned a lot!
nice ! my sis in law gave me 2 I think I might put them back together into a terracotta! I'm excited 😂
How lucky for me that your video came up first in my search. Par excellence!
Nice!~ Thanks for watching!
Brilliant thank you. Simple instructions demonstrated well.. Thank you
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
I was hoping to find this very video and came across yours. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find!. I have a monster, Aloe, that is leaning in the window.
Your directions, both video and audio, were very basic and clear. 👍🏻
Thanks for this video. And now you have a new subscriber! 😁🙌🏼👊
I was about to throw mine but now I know I can save it! Thank you 😊
My aloe is probably about 20 years old.
Very cool! I have yet to see a bloom, im looking forward to it tho
It surprised me when it bloomed. Arrived home after dark one night & saw a tall shoot coming up out of aloe pot. I figured it was some kind of weed. Looked at it the next day to discover it was about to bloom. That was probably 13 years ago.
Thankyou very much for this lovely video, it was the best I have ever seen.
Loved this video. Q. After you have re-potted them, how long do you leave them before you water them? And how much water do use?
i waited like a week or 2, they dont really have roots to suck up a lot of water so I put a very small amount. probably like 1/4 cup right at the base.
Even now almost a year later, I still hardly give them 1/2 - 3/4 cup of water right at the base like every 2 weeks
@@TechplantChannel That's brilliant advice thank you !!!
I was taught with succulents that you put in like a C a skewer or toothpick and if soil comes out like a chocolate cake moisture and wait to water it but owls need a little bit more than succulents in my opinion even other similar family
Thanks! I learned a lot. Going to attempt this tomorrow morning ❤
Thank you for sharing this, yes this is what i was looking for.
Happy gardening ❤❤❤
Thanks a lot Sir, very useful information
Thanks and welcome
So happy I found this. I needed this. you are awesome.
glad you enjoyed it thanks!
Thank you for the information! This is going to help so much.
Good luck with yours!
Thanks for the informative video. I have a very leggy aloe vera and need to propagate it badly. You gave me some good ideas. I plan to give away some of propagations to family and friends. Spread the love. :)
Good video. Been wondering how to tackle how tall my plant has gotten and every other vid is just standard repotting
This is the exact information I was looking for. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
This is so helpful! My Frida Aloe has 4 pups that are now full aloe plants and theyre very crowded and dying 😂
Good job young man,
Thanks
Thanks for watching
I am happy to have found ur video I have mine that is huge
Thanks for watching i hope it helps!
Techplant it did tu
Thank you. I really needed some help with my older plants and I didn’t know what to do.
Glad I could help!
I learned so much in one video! Awesome ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Can we have photos of the big one replanted, how well is it doing? I have a really top heavy one too and I'm considering your method...
singinrainbow yes I did the cut off of long stemmed aloes.
My baby is beyond a monster I don’t want to hurt her😔
Interesting! I will definitely try the water soaking before the callous forming. I have a "Big Mama" with many pups that I need to deal with, but I'm afraid of root rot so keep putting it off.
Lovely ! SO HELPFUL ! Thank you Techplant !
You're most welcome!
Great explanation and video. Thank you so much!!
I know how to do this, I don't even own these plants myself, why am I watching this idk but it's a great video.
