This is EXACTLY what I needed to learn regarding caring for my large aloe babies. Thank you!!
this is eye-opening! I've been struggling with repotting my big aloes and thought cutting was the only way, because the root grew to an out-of-control length.
@dd Mosh I started with a plant I got from a friend. I don't see many people started with seeds, or can even start aloe with seeds. If you happen to know anyone who grows aloes, ask them for a pup or ask where they got it. Aloe vera is quite resilient, so most of the time you'll be okay to start with almost any aloe plant.
@dd Mosh get a smal aloe and replant the pups/sprouts, it is exponential, is crazy fast thought
@dd Mosh Hi. I know this question is a year old, but just in case you're still trying to get started, I wanted to share that if you intend to grow the aloe for food rather than ornamentals, the best variety for this is called "Aloe Barbadensis Miller," as it has the highest values of specific nutrients, and the leaves are a good, hefty size.
Rather than starting with seeds, which can be challenging to get started, I would instead search for plants of the Miller variety. Depending on how much space you have and how quickly you want to reach the farm's capacity, buy a number of these and pot them in such a way that as the roots grow, they can easily find the surface of the soil; This is where the pups will develop. In a few months when the pups are strong enough, pull them off and plant, as before, with the root tips kind of pointing upwards so more pups will form. You can easily turn half a dozen plants into a hundred this way. I've been doing this with my smaller variety of aloe for 5 years now and I've never run low on plants to sell or give as gifts.
One trick I've been testing for a year or so - I purchased a 10' length of vinyl guttering, 2 end caps and 4 middle support pieces. I drilled drainage holes every 12" and used it to repot my pups. It's been working absolutely perfectly, and it was such an inexpensive and space-efficient solution! If you can attach the guttering to a fence or wall, or if you're able to build a vertical rack, you'll be able to fit a ton of plants in a very small footprint. I use this space as a propagation area for many different types of succulents, and vegetable plant starts as well. Sort of like a nursery for baby plants. When they're read to go in their own pots or be planted outdoors, it's so quick and easy to just pop off an end cap of the guttering and slide them right out!
I think this would work very well in a greenhouse as well, at least along the East, North and West perimeter, to really make the most of the limited space.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck to you with your farm! I hope you have great success. 🙂
This was the most helpful video. I have cut the roots to my 5 year old aloes that were in 5 gallon pots a piece. They survive and then thrived but it took along time for it to come back to full health. Close to a year
That is really impressive to see the procedure step-by-step, so, you started from the top and going down, securing the mother aloe vera from the top and removing the bottom and removing all those baby aloe vera, it looked easier and safer to the plant.. I can see that the growth of the plant is not intervened and won’t die.
Thank you for taking time to watch and comment on the video. I really appreciate it. :)
I have got two new pups because of you.. thanks much for teaching me patience and how to care aloe plant..
That's great! Thank you also for watching my videos.
My aloe plant is tall and getting wide. I followed your method for layering. I can't wait to see new roots.
I m aloe vera freak and i apply it day and night on my skin/hair for my skin care as i dont use any other skin care. Its extremely suitable in our hot and humid weather. I hve aloe plants in my garden but as i use them daily i need them to grow more and more , its not enough😁😁
This video and technique were EXACTLY what I was looking for!
Thank you for this! My plant will never reach yours (indoor plant in Canada!) But it is big enough I had no idea how to fix the bottom without possibly killing it! I'm gonna try this! Thank you again!
I live in Al erta and I have an indoor Aloe big like this lol it thrived in my north window for over a year and then i moves it to a south window as it needed so much space! I fell on poor vera coming down my stairs(its on a landing) and will behead her but mayalso try this at the base to see if i can get more pups! She made 12 pups in north window and only 1 pup since putting in bigger pot in south.. The roots may be too deep as another commenter said...good luck!
Hey, loved your video, I have a very clear view on the plantation method now.
If you could share on the pots and the sources, would be really helpful.
God, I really want an Aloe Vera plant that is as beautiful and healthy as this ❤
Ang galing naman po.. :) very nice video..salamat sa pagshare.. :)
MIND BLOWN GREAT JOB MAN YOUR ALOE VERA LOOKS 100X BETTER THAT RIGHT THERE IS CALLED PATIENCE 🙋🏽♂️ ,BY THE WAY BIG FAN OF YOUR VIDEOS SENSE I EVER FOUND OUT OF YOUR UA-cam CHANNEL I RECOMMEND YOUR ADVICE AND VIDEOS THEN ANY OTHER 🎉🎉🎉🤯🤯🤯🌞💯🌱
Wow, thank you, enrique boi. hehe
Id never have thought of trying layering on somthing like one of these but thats a great way clone somthing thats so tempermental and hard to try do cuttings from.
I commented with time left so at end realised weren't doing quite what i thought as this was a fancy repotting.... could this be combined with a more traditional laying idea and cut the top once starts to root leaving the origional root stem which can then regrow giveng you 2 plants?
Most of the time, the lower part will grow many pups even before cutting.
I try but never grow this plant big like this.i guess it's so hot where I come from.but I absolutely love this amazing plant.thank you❤️❤️👍👍
It is also very hot here, Aloe vera loves the sun.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden but my were burned 😥

Excellent vid, and marvelous aloe! When you took off that one big leaf at the bottom, did you wait for it to scab over before you repotted or can it go straight into new soil?
I repotted it right away, those scabs don't hurt the plant, based on my experience.
YOU ARE AMAZING. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge
You are so welcome! Thank you also for watching.
Hi....such a nice video of describing of aloe Vera Plants and it's uses

Beautiful ❤️
Xque soy amante a las plantas , me encanta 🥰🥰
Wonderful and very helpful video! Thank you! I have a very tall aloe that looks great at the top but I will need to remove some lower leaves from the leggy stalk. They are broken and/or looking sad. After removing them should I let the stalk then dry before trying this?
Yes, drying the stalk lessens the chance of rotting. Let it dry for a week.
Beautiful aloes
Thank you
Amazing i do it too now thanks for sharing this video
Thank you too
your aloe vera are so beautiful...
Great technique. How long do you have to wait for the cut leaves to heal before you cover them with soil?
These flexible pots/containers that you use are remarkable. What are they made of? Where to procure them?

So nice of you. Thank you very much.
Thanks for sharing dear
Thank you too
Very good, informative video. Do you have to cut the roots and why do you cut them, I'm just curious. Thank you.
Aloe vera roots are not permanent. It grows roots, and then they rot and grows new ones.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden Thank you for the quick answer.
This video is brilliant thanks. I also like to know how long it took for your aloe to get that big
That's so beautifully made good job
I love the music u use for your videos. I nvr knew the music wud be good when studying
Your collection is truly amazing. In which country do you live? Where I live Aloes can only stay outside for like 4 months..
I live in the Philippines. It's a tropical country. That variety in the video can thrive better in cold weather compared with the other one.
Absolutely wonderful!!! I enjoy your channel. Thank you
Wow amazing 👍

Wow. JazakAllah sir ji
Aloe arborescens is typically a tall aloe. Just cut it and then replant. You don't need to layer it like in the video. I have Aloe arborescens too, when it gets tall, I just cut the plant and replant the cuttings.
Very nice.. thx fr sharing

Thank you, I will
I'm so impressed by how fast it grew! What did you do to achieve such fast growth? Mine doesn't grow so fast and hasn't produced any pups so far and it's over 2 years old. And I can't leave the soil up to the plant/leaves in such a tall container because the soil gets mould... And the leaves base rot
Regular harvesting its leaves helps the plant grow bigger faster.
Sounds like you do not have the appropriate well draining soil and a pot that doesnt drain well...or in environmental conditions keeping it too wet. It should be dries out completely between waterings with the appropriate soil. 🙏
@@dana102083 what's the appropriate draining soil? Would it be a cacti mix? I've tried like 4-5 different soils now and none have worked well... And I'd hate to transplant it yet again, because I see it suffers.
Another thing that worries me is that it doesn't stand sun well.... It turns brown very quickly and burns easily. It doesn't have the color it did when it had its original leaves in the beginning when I bought it (and it grew entirely outdoors) which is that bright green. Its leaves are somewhat of a slightly deeper green almost heading towards a blue tone.. The leaves are thinner and longer rather than shorter and wider, like the original leaves were. However, if I place it out of constant shade, it burns in a couple of days.
@@awadulcecitytart slowly introducing it to the sun. Put it out for a couple hours a day then move back to shade for first week. Add an hour each week.
Sounds like environmental co dictions. You need to let the entire soil dry out before you water again.
Maybe you have it in too big of a container. Roots like to be in a tighter space.
Putting it in a smaller pot will help soil dry out faster.
If you do repot it, check the roots for any brown, mushy, black or crispy roots and trim those off.
What do you do with that much aloevera? Any use of their pulp or you just keep propogating them 😁
I have so many pups already, I throw them in the compost. :)
@@TheAloeVeraGarden i was asking about pulp/gel, do you use gel?
@@RashidNQH you can use some as a face mask. I mixed its gel and an egg and my face felt very smooth after I washed the mask off
ppp
@@TheAloeVeraGarden 🥺 i want some of them please 😭💕
I love this. I had no idea you could do that. I have several aloe vera plants that could benefit from layering and repotting. What type of pot did you use for layering? It's very flexible. I need to get some. Where can I find it?
You can use any type of plastic for layering as long as it can hold the soil separately from the lower pot.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden thanks for the reply
Thank you for this video I have an aloe vera plant and if I want to repot the little one growing separate can I do this without hurting my plant thank you so much mind isn't big as yours but it's so beautiful ❤️🌱🌿
Thank you also for visiting and for watching my video. ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful! Great video
Thank you very much!
This video is really helpful. ♥ Thank you. ☺️
Always best in the best !!
Man I got two little aloe plants a couple years ago, now 12+ pups later the mother plants are just huge! They’ve outgrown the biggest pots I have which are 18 gallon I think? Should I just go with a bigger pot next? Or just trim these down? There’s like 7-8 new pups on them too so I’m running out of room with all these! Lol they are fun to grow tho! They make great gifts too!
Wow, 18 gallon pot is huge already. Is your Aloe plant Aloe vera? If it is Aloe vera, then you don't have to repot it, just make use of the leaves by harvesting some. If it not Aloe vera but an Aloe that grows really big, then I guess you need a bigger pot.
Very nice
Nice video...thanks

💖WOW!🤯
Wow nice.. Thanks for your video. One Question: plz plz answer..
My aloe is overgrown in height and it's stem is growing above the soil.. Is it possible to trim the main big root of aloe vera and replant the plant (not the root) so that it can fit in the original pot?
Yes, if you mean like in this video ua-cam.com/video/QCsS7hkBpI0/v-deo.html

Soooo, what I really need your help with is how should I layer my bigger sections of the plant. Unfortunatelly, they have grown down and around and I am at a loss as to how to save them. In your videos, when you are layering them, the are nice and straight, so it is easy to do, but mine are all crooked. What can I do to layer them????? I have also sent you a FB message with all the pictures so I am hoping you will have a solution for me.
hi! I have big aloe that has 20 leaves
and today I cut it's leaf and saw stem some parts were brown! I guess it's hurt or rot..? (it was frozen 2years ago) but it's making new leaf again..ㅠㅠ I thought it's getting healthy! (only stopped making pups after freezing) so my question is do you recommend cutting method or layering method in this case? should I cut the suspicious brown stem?(about 1cm long) or just let it be and follow this method and remove it afterwards?
which one do you suggest?
If the aloe vera is placed indoor, cutting would be fine and will not affect its appearance so much. But if the plant is placed in full sun, I would suggest layering first before cutting.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden thank you so much!! this one stayed with me in my living room!! I'll do the cutting then!! pls pray it won't die!
you are so helpful!! remember me? freez damaged aloe I asked you for advice! so I could save half of those thank you 😊
@@user-lv7kp5dj4p Oh, I remember now. If you cut your aloe just because it stops propagating, I wouldn't suggest it. Aloe vera will stop giving pups for a while but it will give pups again. But, if you are cutting to save it from rotting, then I would recommend it. 😊😊
@@TheAloeVeraGarden I removed a leaf then the stem? or should I say trunk? was too brownish only the removed part! the rest were so clean so I'm thinking that part is rot! (but wasn't squishy) so I'm trying cutting method after I asked you! yet no signs for roots lol thanks so much for answering you are so kind>_
@@user-lv7kp5dj4p it will take two to three weeks to root.
Its good
Thank you.
I have a question? What are those bugs on the aloe vera that moved around when you were cutting the roots? Are they good or bad for the aloe vera?
I use compost soil that's why it attracts some soil bugs. I don't use pesticides as well. I don't think they can harm the plant as they only feast on decaying compost.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden oh ok thanks
Lots of aloevera
Great method
Thank you
I bring a aloe from my aunt but its root are getting rotten... I removed it and dired it for 1-2 days but now again it started to soften. .. Ehat should i do?
How often should i water it?
Don't replant it until the rotting stops... sometimes it will take a week to dry root rot. Also, when you plant it, don't water it until it develops new roots... that usually takes places 2 weeks after planting.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden oh thank you for your reply 🙏
Can we propagate this big variety of aloe vera with leaves too?

Hi, Been Wondering For The Longest, Say Like Dirt Gets Traps In The Middle Parts & Cracks Of My Aloe And It’s Dusty. Can I Rinse The Leaves Like With A Hose Of Water To Wash Them Off?? It Looks Like You Rinsed Yours At The End Cause Of The Dirt On The Leaves . ? PLEASE ANSWER 😭💚
Amazing 💖
Smart!
so it creates a new root ball higher out of the ground and then we cut the old one off? that's it. only going to work if there's some stem length. i thought aloe vera has no stem? apparently not so.
Yes, it will develop roots in the upper part. Aloe vera has a shallow root system.
@@TheAloeVeraGarden so we need an aloe vera that has a stem. what about agave? do you know about them, too? they seem very similar. will they put roots out from the stem? I have a number of them with far too long stems.... :)

Yes, it is.
