- In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 2002 Sterling Acterra Wrecker Cummins Diesel with a 6 speed manual transmission. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

Damn thats a nice rig! Love it!
Lol the hood must have been heavy. "Oh my gosh!" Haha thats funny
.
i like the commercial vehicles that review channels like kyles does instead of just talking about lamborghini’s or other fast cars
1:26 Love the startup
That beeping noise is no disturbance. I drive a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD that has that same tone. After 3 years of driving the vehicle I am long since used to it.
that Cummins looks to be an ISB Engine; and as for the Cab, it looks to be very heavily based on the Freightliner M2 Business Class; which was introduced around the same time this truck was built.
I know this is a really old video, but do you know what the bulb size is? I have a 2001 that I want to add led's to but dont know the size.
typical Sterling.. rubber clutch pedal pad fell off, dashboard all busted up, headliner falling down..but you can beat the shit out of them and they keep going..
sounds like my 03 Ford F350
And of course the letter "R" in the word sterling on the front grill is missing.
Kyle, I've got a question for you. What kind of watch have you got? I think it looks really nice! I like your video's, especially the junker ones. You're a lucky man to drive such a nice Hyundai at your age. Greetings from Holland!
What camera do you use during the video?
Isn't it on the big trucks like those that your aren't suppose to turn the wheels without moving because you can hurt your powersteering pump? just wondering because thats what i've learned with our western star semi.
Wow that truck has been used from a long time and this truck is the only one it has a lot of miles! That's a most used truck from a long time !
@pjtart it is actually based off of the ford louisville class, cummins powered and probably has a spicer transmission.
0:53 "it's got like a hydraulic lift on the seat" It's probably an air ride seat typically large trucks have those air ride seats. It kind of feels like a hydraulic one especially if you haven't been in a large truck but that is what an air ride seat is like.
It would be really coo if you posted a in deph review of a school bus.
omg dude this is so cool.
@1bentley4ever powerstrokes aren't used in meduim duty ford trucks. Until about the mid 90s, the Ford/New Holland 6.6L and 7.8L turbo diesel I6s were standard. They were some of the most durable diesels out there along with the IH DT466, though they smoked a lot and were hard to start. The EPA restricted them off road since the 90s.
Cool Video
this isn't a bad looking truck for a wrecker. gotta love the cummins. i just can't figure out why the ignition is on the left instead of the standard right.
@01Tahoe10 Turn signals and door opening/closing-sounds is my obsession xD
That speedo is straight out of a Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2
That's because the instrument cluster is from Freightliner and those buses are built on Freightliner chassis' lol
@@danlenox1430 And because before its discontinuation Sterling trucks of that era were made by the Daimler-Benz Freightliner group who also made a few other truck brands that have since been discontinued in favor of Freightliner being the sole commercial truck brand besides Mercedes made by the conglomerate which at one time included Chrysler motors, hence there being at one time a version of the Ram truck branded under Sterling
I like your videos
Holy balls. Big truck.
Do more heavy vehicles like this one
the window switches/ A/C control unit/ steering wheel resemble Ford. Does Ford make Sterling?
Awesome
@01Tahoe10 whats sick about it. somehave a thing for pedal pumpers. i cant figure that one out tbh
@Chris07860 with 400000 miles that engine is just nicely broken in. A general rule of thumb is if it's been properly maintained since new, a commercial diesel engine should last 700000 miles or more
@wizard101emily well kyle tha battery locks up somet times to keep charge
1:02 UGH THAT ANNOYING BEEP IS THERE ANYWAY TO SWAP THE BUZZ WITH A CHIME?
Not a crazy fan of trucks, but this one looks badass
@TheCalumCars Sterling was Ford's medium duty truck line, Freightliner bought it so the M2 Business Class would have less competition. Freightliner has cancelled the Sterling line, so they are no more. Neat little trucks though, I'm considering buying one.
sounds like matts4290's 2002 Blue Bird All American Rear Engine bus with that same Cummins ISB engine! :D
That's the same instrument cluster as on a new Thomas Saf T Liner.
Fun Fact: the instrument cluster is a Freightliner dash off a Freightliner
@kendrickevans301 It doesn't need many RPMs. Diesels have a higher torque at low rpms
That truck stole parts off of a ford/dodge/freightliner/Toyota??/
@01Tahoe10 me just the gauge sweeps
the beeping noise is the same as the Thomas Built Buses buses! lol.
Yes it is and so is the gauge display.
Damn that's a lotta miles.
ive got a question have you ever test driven a big rig or not if not thats i was just wondering by the it incase if you who i am my is brandon meyer and i live in branson mo
was just there last week
was just there last week
@kendrickevans301 OK, LOL. I wish I knew that about a year ago when I drove my driving instructer's car. I drove it like a petrol/gas car haha. I wondered why the torque dropped when I floored it.
ahhh that buzzer
@1americancarfan sounds like a 6bt to me how bout u?
5:50 Benny and the jets is a good song but at 5:59 journey-who’s crying now is a better song.
Are you sure this is a 2002? The gearshifter looks like it's 50 years old and my 73 Ford has the same ignition and the steering wheel looks like it's out of a 92 Ford f150
CloroxBleach Sterling were Ford Medium Duty trucks it was renamed as Sterling once Freightliner bought them they also had the Freightliner bullet which was a rebranded Dodge Cummins
CloroxBleach my dad has a 08 sterling looks just like it butt way nicer
They carried some of the older Ford parts over from the Fords. I've been in a Sterling, and it has the same outside door handles as an Econoline and the inside door handles are the same as a 92 F150. The AC knobs appear to be out of a 1997-02 F150.
nice
@01Tahoe10 i do! along with the rest of the vehicles :-)
gotta love the rattling sound of a cummins diesel lol
TheChevytruckguy my favourite Cummins engines would have to be the ISB, ISC, and C8.3
@@newfoundrooski mines is the 5.9 Cummins
I kind of wish they Put A Cat 3126 in there. It has more power and sounds cooler. It is also a more modern engine and has HEUI fuel injection.
so coooolll
air ride seats nice
It works I guess... And then we go to the radio hour, Thoroughly check out for an hour
@pjtart well ford dropped its heavy duty trucks in 2000 or so except it's medium duty f600s and f700s which is basically the same payload as the louisvilles, except they aren't lifted as high and not as capable as the old louisvilles for heavy hauling. Apparently, I guess Chrysler owns sterling, but they are based off of ford heavy duty trucks.
El amor donde cuentan las historias y todo el corazonsito... LOL
How much for that truck?
@americaPWNScanada Not really surprising this thing probably still has another 300k left in it if not more depending on how the truck was taken care of
You see a lot of leftover details from Ford, starting with the 90s Ford steering wheel. Of course Sterling took over making Ford's heavy duty trucks after Ford gave up on that in 1999 (:
reminds me of my ford louisville
can u do a test drive video on the truck :)
he never did it or responded 9 years later almost 10 years
how much are you asking for it
Wow
@04smallmj i know thtat, i was pointing this out to somebody because they didn't know that this truck gives 100% of it's power a@ 900 rpm, i know, i am a certified diesel mechanic, this was @ somebody, and they know who they are, thanks though
nice, sometime I'd like to see you review a nice 70s or 80s cabover like a Peterbilt or kenworth
@avick84 I know because my tow trucks (18), i have a buisness, is a 2005 Dodge "sterling" ram 3500. So Diamler AG had to have owned it atleast in 2005
Kyle is hilarious
Can anybody buy it or can just big companies buy it?
my uncles paving company has a sterling dumptruck with a mercedes engine and it sucks but for the truck it is a well truck
Yup. Definitely a 24 valve. I know that sound anywhere lol
@theimaginator16
Lol, I agree
me thinks Kyle has a secret liking for big diesel lol
a cummins will always start
@01Tahoe10 ikr
2002 sterling acterra flatbed tow truck
Cummins define reliability.
Big Boy's Ride Big Toy's right Kyle? lol.
Subway Dorchester Ave.
Ford style doors + International Steering Wheel + Freightliner buzzer + Freightliner Shift Lever =
STE LING ACTERRA
8 years late sorry, but that wheel reminds me of an 80s Ford truck. The Acterra was, at one point, the Ford Louisville (when Sterling was owned by Ford). The late model Ford Louisville models and the Sterling Acterra is identical to the Ford Louisville, besides the rebadging, and the gauges.
i would not call that an "in depth tour", and the seats aren't hydraulic they're air ride. Which explains the buzzer you heard for the first part of the video, bc it was low on air.
cool*
@americaPWNScanada agreed
@walkingfreak 690.408576 kilometers
i like cars
niceeeeeeeeeeeee
This has a lot of ford parts with a Freightliner Gauge Cluster and a Cummins Engine
good GOD i just noticed that belt weas LOOSE
@talldude123 ford body or i guess you could say now sterling now and like someone else said to me ford no longer owns the heavy duty truck division
$10k?
it would look weird seeing you driving a huge truck
That Cummins diesel sounds so powerful and strong, then you beep the horn and it sounds like something off a Honda Civic. Anyone else notice that? lol
@01Tahoe10 i'm not gonna ask
1:39 What the hell? That horn is weird.
Classic school bus sound
5.9 Cummins
this shit has 400,000 miles and starts up no probs. damn
Damn! Its loud enough thats for sure >.
no reply 6 years later
We are going to the 356.
yeh
he has a bus on here somewhere
This is the rollback
My dads 1992 GMC Sierra Extended Cab has less miles than that
+Emery “Master Of Swag” Clark That is because this is a semi used every day for actual work not driving to a cubical farm.
I dont live on a farm
the point is this is used for a real hard working job not staring at a computer all day
damn........
