How to Wipe All Partitions on USB Flash Drive on Windows

- Here's a quick tutorial for wiping all partitions and cleaning everything on the USB Flash Drive on Windows.
1) Open command prompt
2) diskpart
3) list disk
4) select disk 1
5) clean

Eight years later I used a large flash drive to experiment with Linux and found the problem you solved here. After I did my fiddling with Linux I discovered that the drive couldn't be used for any other purpose. With this video I followed step by step and solved the problem, now it is usable again! Hello there. I have a usb stick which had a CD drive in it and it took 1.45gb out of the 8gb total space. I can't remove it using the method you shown since it does not appear in the disk part. What do i do?

I have a 2nd hard drive on my computer. When I go to command prompt, then diskpart, then list disk, it is just showing 2 disk both with the same storage. How do I get it to list the removable flash drive?

i yanked the thumb drive before assigning new drive letter . Failed , inserted thumb drive n finish the video where new letter is assigned and it worked . Thank you sir !!!

Awesome - quick and simple. I had to close Computer Management and reselect the disk in diskpart (gave error "DiskPart has encountered an error: the device is not ready. See the System Event Log for more information."), but other than that, worked flawlessly! Thanks so much

Extremely useful, thanks dude! MemTest86 partitioned a flash drive I had from 2g down to 250mb (and didnt work anyway). Couldn't merge the partitions back into one contiguous one! Worked like a charm.

When I had the details of disk, it say it has ID: 00000000, and also named as Raw. what does that mean?
very nicely explained and nice to see the closeups of screen while doing the usb in a side panel. otherwise would have to do full screen and keep switching back and forth. usually use 2 laptops to do tutorials sometimes
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! i tried to install chrome OS on my USB drive to try it out. but then the program that said it was installing it onto my USB drive actually just made 23 partitions and formatted it in a way where windows can't read it. THIS VIDEO SAVED MY USB DRIVE THANKS SO MUCH!

so I got all the way through this and when I hit clean it said error . and now when I put the flash drive back it the computer pics it up and says insert disk .….. can you tell me what happened if you know .
bro i have an sd card when i am going to create partition it is saying there is no enough space to create partition and even after cleaning the sd card still it is not being formated its partition are sam as it was before

@MicrowaveSam Yes for number one and three, however, for number two that's where I have issues, I was able to somehow get to the disk clean up wizard without having first cleaned the usb on command prompt. I'm able to do everything else, but locate the usb on prompt. (Note I did use it to instal tails on it before, not sure if part of a partition is corrupting my usb or something) Thanks a bunch man!
does this remove all memory on my USB as well?

P.S.: It seems to help to use "exit" to leave diskpart after "clean" has completed, before creating the new volume. Before I did "exit" diskpart, disk management seemed to block when creating the new volume.
When I do this I receive an error saying:
Virtual Disk Service error:
There is no media in the device.

Thanks, I was trying to erase the USB drive as I had used it to install Windows on another PC previously and needed it to install another OS elsewhere. In my case the USB drive was 32 GB and I only had 4 MB of space :|
I will say in my case though originally cmd had told me it couldn't complete it because access was denied, however for some reason it still succeeded anyway?

good evening i watched the video and im kind of lost, my comptuer says Disk 0- 298 GB anfd Disk 1 has 5632 B. in computer management it says Disk 1 Removable. which out of the two I select.

my 2 GB sd card contain strange files, some named ░bootmgr and others Ä╤╝≡{Ä┘╕. I tried the procedure in your video, and in cmd window it said part disk succeeded to clean disk 1, but nothing changed in the disk, all the files are still showing leaving 34MB of free space. when I insert the card in the laptop it tels me you have to format the disk, when I do that it says unable to format. Any tip on how to deal with this? Thank you in advance
