- A warm, warm welcome on the Galactica to Helena Cain.
Helena Cain facts: Helena Cain is an admiral in the Colonial Fleet and serves as the commanding officer of the Battlestar Pegasus. Cain is known for her authoritarian and ruthless leadership style. She takes a hardline approach in her pursuit of the Cylons, the cybernetic race that wiped out most of humanity. Cain's character arc explores the moral complexities and the sacrifices she is willing to make in order to ensure the survival of the human race.
From "Pegasus" (Season 2, Episode 10): There's jubilation on Galactica when the Pegasus, thought to have been annihilated with the rest of the colonial fleet, appears out of nowhere. However, the celebrations don't last long. Adama clashes with Pegasus' Admiral Cain, and two of Galactica's crew are sentenced to death.

That's ADMRAL Helena Cain to you! Love the contrast she brought to Adama, the Galactica and the fleet in general, the road not taken for everybody. One of my favourite arcs of the series.
Terrible acting
Terrible forced plot
Terrible character arc

@@AwakenedAvocado So you're here watching this video why, exactly?
@@SueMead because i like Battlestar Galactica
@@AwakenedAvocadowho are you talking about adama or cain
@@oguz_1315 cain obviously
When she landed you could literally see how excited she was because she would be in command of this new fleet with ships, parts, and people. She was looking around at her new treasure. Then her demeanor changed when she realized that there was someone there that outranked her with Roslin. What a great scene.
I kinda missed that but it was admams ace in the hole,
Yes, I noticed that too. I have always wondered if the script called out for her to react in those ways, if she was just taking direction, or if it was just the actress performing as she interpreted the character.
She didn’t care about Roslin, and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t take orders from a president she sees only as a figure head. Cain would have strip mined this new fleet as she did the last one, but because didn’t know where Adama landed on that she kept that in her back pocket. Later she “reassigned” key personal from Galactica and replaced them with her own people. Adama’s days and a commander were numbered if he was slow to stop it.
I thought it was because she got promoted quickly due to her parents being in the political party and knew good chunk of the cabinet and was suprised it was not Adar or anyone higher up than Roslin. Good point tho
She probably thought the woman behind Bill was his wife and not the President.
"Welcome back to the Colonial Fleet."
Uhh, you were the lone ship. You are the ones that just joined a fleet.
@AptMantis2278 And still the Pegasus joined a flotilla not the other way around.
More to the point, the President of the Colonies was with the Galactica. That makes it the Fleet.
@@Redwaltz4 Nope, you guys are wrong. Admiral Cain was high ranked officer at this moment, so no matter on which battleship she is, it's a fleet. Specially Pegasus vs Galactica (civil ships is not a fleet sadly :))D)))
Amazing how Ensign Ro climbed back up the ranks!
Thanks to that advanced tactical training she received.
she always does
She lost her bajoran nose?!
Michelle Forbes has a very nice distinction for sci-fi roles.
Commander Ro would not like or respect Admiral Cain.
After all these years, I kind of just noticed that Adm. Cain shakes Cmdr. Adama’s hand and turns it so hers is on top to show her dominance. However, she doesn’t do that with President Roslin who she’s subordinate to.
This show was fantastic with the subtle details.
Admiral Cain had the slightest look of love and relief in her eyes for about two seconds, and then that's the last you ever see that happen.
this was such a pivotal and powerful moment in the show
i'll never forget when the Pegasus showed up
No doubt. Another surviving, modern battlestar joins the fight for humanity... my heart soared. Then it goes to 💩 😅
The first time I saw BSG (not knowing any spoilers thank god) I felt the same relief the crew did.
I loved Admiral Cain. I'd never seen a woman like that in any show or movie before. BUT I loved William Adams more hahaha soooo she had to go. I love everything they revealed about her in Razor.
Indeed
What gets me is she said welcome back, she welcomed them, the bulk of humanity, the president, everyone, she welcomed them back to her, she never intended to work together, only sought out a subordinate.
Cain's response when asked how they avoided the initial attack...
I’m sure there’s an element of trauma there. They were dry docked, then bombed with nukes, witnessed their sister ships obliterated without mercy, then she had to jump with some of her crew not fully secure and outside the ship.
Just why am I having goose bumps every time I see these short movies on this channel? BSG - the best story ever.
Been on the deck under one min: "Colonel, put your men at ease" Chain of command, Like a Boss.
Not a great boss though. She's always issuing orders like she's cracking a whip to nameless underling, even in what's supposed to be a happy moment. Adama knew when to turn on and off the hardass tone.
@@theshlauf True.
I fraking love that shot of Pegasus and Galactica flying together.
She plays a psycho so well
Fighting Cylons and those spoon head Cardies, Commander Ro/Cain is to be feared by man and beast alike.
That subtle 'welcome BACK to the fleet' when the Pegasus was 1 ship vs an actual fleet of ships was great foreshadowing to her POV and the trouble ahead.
You could tell Michelle Forbes loved playing this role.
That guy that came out first was looking around like "these people must be cylons or traitors if they survived in this old rust bucket"
Nah the Galactica is the pride of the fleet. The last one standing from the first cylon war. A tested and proven ship and crew
I like her name: "Helena Cain". You can feel the origins of mankind vibrating in this story.
Despite the problems I had with the show towards the end (final five cop out, ghost Starbuck, etc.) it still gave us some of the best TV show characters and moments to this very day.
Ten's of thousands of people completely abandoning technology, yeah right... Most people go nuts if their internet connection goes out for more than a few minutes.
who were the final 5 supposed to be?
It would be awesome if you included the part while Cain's Raptor is approaching the landing bay and you can hear the different version of "Lords of Kobol". This variation is so amazing. Sad that its not published.
I've seen packs of dogs who greeted each other more warmly than those two crews.
The Fact the computer they had at the time couldn't fully render both the Galactica and the Pegasus in the same shot. So when ever you see both ships there at an angle and you dont see all of them.
Admiral Cain needs to work on her salute. 😆👍🏾
"Welcome back", beesh, you are the newcomer here.
Soon as I saw Ensign Ro I knew they were a progenitor of modern mankind! Fantastic show - one of the best.
Will always be one of the best SciFi Series ever produced, and the one that did indeed raise the bar for scifi to follow of higher standards of writing, character development, and viewer relatability.
Yes, but it was completely ruined by the cinematography. Why was it shot like The Office?
@@sixstanger00 the original intention was to shoot the series like a Discovery channel documentary crew was filming these scenes in real life, hence all the shaky cam and sudden zoom ins. I think the idea started to fade away after season 2 other than scenes in space. But that was the original idea according to what I've read
@@magnubeido8832 *_the original intention was to shoot the series like a Discovery channel documentary crew was filming these scenes in real life_*
Yes, the style is called "mockumentary." Modern sitcoms like The Office, Modern Family, etc use this format.
What I don't get is why was it applicable here?
love that Laura hugs her twice
From ensign Ro at Star Trek Next Generation to Admiral Cain.
When I first saw this episode when it first came out, it took some time to realize that Cain was Ensign Ro. I had to look it up to be sure lol.
it's interesting to watch the handshakes when she boards Galactica. With Adama her handshake is her hand over his to represent command authority while her handshakes with Roslyn and Baltar are the traditional handshake signifying equality both to the civilian led government and also to the civilians she is sworn to defend.
thank you for still uploading videos! bsg forever ❤
Tiny raptors like clown car
☹Not on Peacock in US? I got Peacock because it is tagged in all the clips but this show isn't on Peacock.
Is it just me or does Michelle Forbes, who plays Cain, sort of resembles Kate Jackson, one of the original “Charlie’s Angels”? ❤Diane, Vancouver, Canada. MnNO06/23. 06:12 pm
Best ever series highly recommend
Well this escalated quickly
What colonial fleet? Everything have fallen except for 2 battlestars.
I just realised the CAG commander's badge wasn't vertical.
Fucking Principal Roslin is fucking cool.
"I'll have another if you don't mind."
Hadn't noticed this line before. It's our first hint that what happened that day was very personally hard on her.
I probably dismissed from this as her commenting on the trauma of losing the battle for the colonies so hard.
It's so much worse.
as a kid, i didn't get the reason why Adama had to salute Cain. I think they explained why in the show. Now, as an adult i get it. Lol.
She was an admiral, he was a commander. No brainer ))
I'm the reverse 🕺🏻
This series is right up there with The Expanse as the best Sci-Fi series ever put on TV. I watched it for the first time a few years ago and loved it. I found a link that showed a whole bunch of mini-movies and extras that go with the BSG series and what order to watch them in. It really added a lot to the series and filled in some gaps. I just started watching The Expanse and Andromeda again. After I finish those I will watch BSG for the second time.
Realistically the Cylons would absolutely total humans in physical strength and durability. The would likely be even stronger than the T800 from the first 2 Terminator movies.
That would give them a HUGE advantage in the space battles because the G forces experiences when flying around in those starfighters would be brutal to the human body and though not totally indestructible the Cylons would be able to endure way more G forces than a human could.
Same goes for the remake. Even though the inside of those raiders was a bunch of weird organs (it was gross when the remake version of Starbuck went in there). The biological inside of the remake version of vipers would not be totally indestructible either but since they were SPECIFICALL genetically engineered to be inside those ships they would be way better at enduring G forces than the human body that did not at all evolve for that.
I love Tigh's look at 1:54 lmao
"Does this motherfrakker know every woman in the Colonies!?"
Sorry, she ain’t Kane. Only Lloyd Bridges is Jane!!!!!
I don't recall her ever acknowledging Dr Baltar. Added scene?
You noticed that too! They must have taken that out because Cain acts like she doesn't know him when Adama tells her about him.
There’s an extended cut of the episode and many more on the disks.
One thing they seen to always get wrong in space operas. An admiral commands a group of ships. The ship they're embarked on is their flag ship, but that ship would have its own captain. An admiral wouldn't be in command of a particular ship.
Never cared for the Cain character. I was glad when she finally bought it.
The moment she stepped foot of the transport you can just tell she expected to be in command and lead the entire colonial remnant fleet
Already she was making it clear she would be a problem
How can you tell what's going on, dood, does the camera man have parkinson's ?
Pegasus is like ancient Sparta and Galactica like Athens
He wasn’t much and loved on base with his bff
Why didn't the president promote Adama?
And it was all down hill from there.
Did Adama tell Adm. Cain we have to make babies
wow she went from Ensign to Admiral pretty quick.
I rewatched this scene on Amazon prime having bought the series before they made it free. Her talking to Baltar is completely cut. How weird.
As much as I loved this iteration (though I still prefer the original in contrast) this series did a lot of great things and remains a memorable addition to the franchise - which is once more scheduled for a reboot again-.. And yet the one aspect that still burns me to this day, was the race swapping, gender switching, switch and bait tactics that were used throughout the series.
I'm 97% sure the first guy to step out just fell off the wing. I mean, he's there and then poof, down he goes. Idk if it's a blooper that slipped in or what but it makes me laugh every time.
Hands up if this isn't how you remember it.
The overall arc is the war against the cyclons, but there were fun characters and sub-plots that made the series so engaging.
Welcome back to society. PS it's FKed it won't end well
Never would her chief be on the same flight as the admiral herself. Ever.
Why is her PSD mean mugging everyone?
two path , one based of violence and retribution and the other based other struggle and salvation. Divided those path both fail and it's in the union of those two aspect into a new path that the answer reside
Razor. One of the best!
Whats the song name?
Did Cain outrank Adama in the original series?
No, in the original series, Adama was a member of the ruling council, part of the civilian government. Cain was an Admiral, but not part of the ruling government.
@@Redwaltz4 Ok. It has been a while since I watched it when it came out. Always loved this show as a kid.
It's great how the game, Deadlock plays up her power grabbing psychotic nature.
Actually the Cain in Deadlock is her grandmother.
@@andrewnlarsen Is it? Same voice & psychotic nature.
@@xxxlonewolf49Different actress and different older character as don't forget Deadlock is the first cylon war.
Is it back in peacock?
No but I am sure it will be. Even though Universal owns it it’s expensive to license it.
Admiral Cain (for all the awful things she did) was right about one thing: the war was not over. The survivors hadn't found the perfect hiding place called New Caprica just yet and they didn't know about the Cylon virus either.
Had she been a better and more considerate person she (the one officer willing to continue to fight) wouldn't have been assassinated by that Cylon and the same Cylon wouldn't have given the location of New Caprica away by detonating that nuke. The civilians would have been safe on NC while the 2 battlestars would have gone on to find Earth and on their way stumbled upon the Cylon virus.
This war was still winnable. But Cain and Adama were the 2 extremes (one not caring about anything else - no civilians, nothing - but the war, the other not even believing the war could be won). As a result we saw the slow death of a civilization in four seasons.
The war WAS lost already, even if the two Battlestars went off to hunt Cylons, every hit would have catastrophic in the long term especially since they had no repair facilities. Their best chance was fleeing with survivors. Their occasional strikes back were crucial in the exodus but they could never win the war. You can’t leave the civilians undefended against a genocidal opponent, doing so dooms your civilization, nor should you risk your guardians needlessly.
@jamesxiaolong2199 Correct there is no way to win this war anymore two battlestars would due little more than sting the cylons and put the rest of humanity at risk of being wiped out by them. In this breed of war their is no winning only surviving and praying to see tomorrow. that is how you win is by living, by surviving and by thriving everyday you live is a victory and that is the only victory you can hope to achieve against an enemy that is hell bent on your destruction to turn around and fight them will equal their victory and your death that’s all you can hope to accomplish with that way of thinking period
@@TylerGarcia-uf2mdFrankly the only way I see the Colonials winning is if Cain found that Cylon virus and released it. Even then I’m not sure that would completely kill off the Cylons.
Razor was right up their with battlestar galactica mini series shocking unexpected and riveting
The hand-held camerawork is AWFUL. Destroys the scene.
Why was this series shot like The Office?
Realism. The shakey camera makes people think of reality tv shows without thinking its a reality tv show. So the brain is sort of tricked into thinking its more real. Like stargate universe
I’ve watched this series so many times, but I skip these episodes every time.
why
Why?? This, and Resurrection Ship 1/2 are probably the best arc in the series.
This arc is one of the strongest. The conflict between subordination and knowing what is best for the community...
@@leonidiakovlev I just really dislike the character. Love BSG though.
@@ldkellandshaw the character just bothers me a lot.
One of the best shows ever!
I've watched the entire series thirteen times so far, along with "Caprica" and "Blood and chrome".
Shame about the latter two. Never had chance to breath and grow.
Caprica could have been so much better. It didn’t make much sense
This scene was one of excitement.
A woman admiral lol
