    Great video! I have a R/W 2608BS.
    I was on the fence between the Hide-a-Spare and the Retract-A-Spate. I like this better. As you mentioned, less stuff hanging under the rig. I like adding the second bolt to the frame, I thought it, and then you said it! Makes sense. The manufacturers should include this! Thanks!

    I installed under front storage.
    Wanted to keep rear weight down to avoid sway. I set up generator on rear bumper also. Love your videos.

    Alright Mike, as usual I have a couple of questions for you. First, are you going to cut a hole in the skirting so that you can use a regular crank in the skirting like the holes on the slide skirting to crank it up and down? Second question, to check air pressure easily on your spare tire wouldn't it be easier to do if the air valve is pointed down? Yes I am a smart ass... LOL!!! Otherwise it looks great and very easy to install. Great video!!!

    Mike Really enjoy your channel we have a lot in common on our thinking But you should turn spare over so valve stem is down and face it forward and nothing will hit stem. Also it would be easier to paint your frame now with a good coat of xo rust paint before it gets to bad. And it will stay good for a long time.

    Just like Chevy/GMC. Many a spare tire has been lost by not maintaining the hoist and watching for rust, Especially in Up State NY LOL

    Great idea. This would shift the weight a but from the back closer to the axil and reduce the chance of sway more. I will add this to my project list.

      You could actually put it in front of the axle if you got the room.

    First of all Thank You for the informational video. While watching I couldn't help but notice that the manufacturer put castle rock tires on your trailer as were mine. I keep after my tire pressure and check treads often . I don't do anything to damage my tires. The last thing you want is to be on the side of the road changing a tire. This past spring while going to the beach I had a blow out on the front tire of my camper. The blow out had shredded the tire with pieces flying everywhere. chunks of rubber damaged my skirting and my underbelly membrane. The shredded metal cords of the tire got picked up by the tire behind the exploded tire, causing it to leak slowly. I was able to put my spare tire on and finish our trip. When returning home I went to get 2 new tires on the rims and the place where i get tires didn't carry the castle rock brand. Long story but he said he replaces a lot of that brand with blow outs. I ended up replacing all the tires on my camper and even bought an extra spare. I was lucky that the blow out tire didn't take out my rear tire completely because
    I only had 1 spare tire with me. I now carry 2 spares. we did a little research on the internet and a lot of people talking about these tires blowing out. They nick naming them China Bombs.
    Thanks again for the informational video

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, you're going to have problems with some of the Lesser name brands. I want to put them in the category of China bombs though. That's relegated to tires that have whole website forms dedicated to just all the problems that they're having with one specific brand. Think about how many Rockwood and Flagstaff RVs that AR on the road from 2013 to 2021 all of them went out of the factory with Castle Rock tires. So when you see a group of maybe 30 people talking about blowouts with that specific brand you can kind of get an idea that there are a lot more on the road that we're doing just fine and took him to the mileage limit then that had blowouts. Now, with that said we used our Castle Rock tires for roughly 2500 miles and before we hit the road full-time we upgraded to Goodyear endurance. As we wanted to upgrade to a higher load rating and a higher speed rating also. But for 2500 miles the castle Rock's did me just fine. It happens. The reason that people have an issue with blowouts with different brands tires is not so much the inconvenience of needing to change the tire and put a spare on it because the RVs are manufactured in such a way that they damage the RVs greatly. Sometimes even internal important components such as Plumbing, wiring or propane and of course cosmetically the damage isn't something that can be repaired easily. So, when something is mundane as a flat tire happens or a blowout it is that much more exaggerated of an issue. The reason that I stopped my listing of Rockwoods cuz in 2021 they started putting Goodyear Endurance on all their units. They said the majority of the people that were buying him we're having the dealers change out the tires anyways even though the reports of blowouts were so minor compared to how many were out there it just didn't make sense and that's just the way Rockwood does things to make their units better. Thank you for watching and commenting! Appreciate it greatly:-)

    We have wondered how to carry a spare on our Class A. We have waited several hours for roadside service with other problems. But, after a flat in our driveway and trying to track down a tire of our size, 22.5 inch I think, we thought we should have one on hand. But who can lift one of those tires??? We gave up on large and medium sized dogs when we lost out last 2 because as they age and need help, we age and struggle to help them. Sucks to get old. LOL HUGS~Donna

      We haven't had an opportunity to use our fresh water tank in the truck yet, hopefully soon if we do any blm land.. And no we haven't even looked at the mounting of any of the tanks on our Rockwood, hopefully soon if we ever get a spot where we can do so, we have heard stories about the tanks falling out during travel.. Let's hope it doesn't happen to us, we only travel with about 15 gallons of fresh... 😁

    I herd you say when you where on the way back home you had a teeter totter effect you can get some equalizer bars which will stabilize the trailer and keep it from swaying and Teeter tottering when you got the generator on the back. Get some rustoleum paint To paint the frame down there where is rusting and where you drill the holes for the spare tire.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  4 роки тому +1

      Okay, so, don't take that literally. What I meant was I could tell there was a slight unloading on the back of the truck that was slightly more then when I had the generators mounted on the back. I am very sensitive to my vehicles and how they feel when I tow. For example, I can drive down the road and can tell when my air compressor kicks on for my air conditioning. So it only stands to reason that I could feel there was a difference at the hitch when I was driving. With that said it was not out of control there was no Sway and we have a $3,800 Pro Pride hitch that takes care of all the needs that this trailer could possibly Demand on an F350 if there's even such a thing. As far as painting the frame. That's a losing battle unless you live in a climate in which there's no chance of moisture building up underneath of it. Once we hit the road I suspect that whatever surface rust that has slightly poked through on the frame will be all that that RV will see. At that point I might address it but every RV in Northeast Ohio looks like ours or much worse. The other thing is whenever I was shooting the video in post-production I had to change the light settings for a correction so that it appeared brighter that makes the rust pop more in the picture. It's kind of like if somebody is smiling and then you brighten the entire picture until it looks like their teeth are bright shiny white when in reality they're probably just normal white.

    You should have the mounting of the tire with the valve stem down so you can check your tire pressures. It’s a spare tire who cares if it gets scratched lol.
    It’s just a way it’s mounted on trucks. They always put the valve stem down.

    Also do you know of a source for the black chloroplast. I'll probably rip mine up when installing something like this :-)

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  4 роки тому

      Yeah there's no way to put two tires on there because the metal is not strong enough to support but just one 16 and a half inch tire maximum.

    • @leeh2866

      You could possibly use 2 mounts. Offset one curbside and one streetside. Put them as close together as possible with enough room to fit both tires underneath.

    You should always have your valve stem pointing downward so you can check your pressure in your spare so you don’t have to lower the tire every time that’s how they do it on the pick up trucks

    Way to much work under the trailer. I have the Rockwood 2608. I measured the exact width distance of the frame where I wanted the holes to go. Completely assembled and drilled the 2nd bolt hole on my work bench. Only time I spent under the trailer was drilling the 4 mounting holes, bolted it on and attached the tire. Just make sure your measurements are precise. I used vise grips to hold the entire unit in place and drilled the holes without having to mark.

I pulled off the highway on to a feeder road , the spare was hanging down and hitting the road. I was not able to winch it back up, or down, even bent the handle in the attempt.
