Rear bumper spare tire mounts are cumbersome and ugly, and they make it difficult to install bike racks and cargo trays. Plus, they add weight and length to your travel trailer.
BAL now offers the 'Hide-A-Spare' Tire Storage System that allows you to mount the bulky tire beneath your trailer and out of the way. This system is very easy to mount and if you ever require access to the spare tire, simple to remove.
With two models to fit every type of trailer frame, installation is quick and simple. The knob and pin are removed to lower the 'Hide-A-Spare' to the ground. It then telescopes out for easier access to the spare tire.
Made in the USA. Not retail boxed. Limited One-Year Warranty.
Tire mounting hardware included. Frame mounting hardware not included.
    Fits I-Beam, C-Frame, Channel, Box, or Z-Frame
    Model 28217B:
68" to 75" frame width, Recessed mount for trailers without underbelly enclosure (stores in cavity of frame)
    Model 28218B:
68" to 75" frame width, Underslung mount for trailers with enclosed underbelly (hangs below the frame)
Works on some motorized RVs. Contact us for verification.

FYI on a different video a guy said that the bars wore down the spare tire side walls damaging the tire so he bolted down a piece of wood using the tire mounting bolts so the tire does not rest directly on the bars

What bolts or self tapping screws did you use to mount the frame brackets?

I have an I-Beam frame with no underbelly enclosure, so I ordered the 28217B. Went to install it, and realized that my 8.5" wide x 26" tall spare will NOT fit without EXTENSIVE modifications.
NO WHERE under my 28'-8" long Salem FSX 260RTX frame is there a spot with wide enough spacing between cross-members that an 8.5" wide spare will fit between the full depth cross-members and clear the alternating partial depth cross-members.
Is there any way I can exchange it for the underslung version? Not sure how there isn't some notes somewhere notating the depth limitations/requirements, et al for fitment to trailers with I-beam, open belly, AND closely spaced cross-members...

Um so isn't drilling into your rv frame weaken it increasing possibility of bends and fractures?
Doesn't it also void warranties ?

MrsPeedFrk, drilling four 5/16” holes (two on each frame rail) should not weaken the frame. The OEM that manufactured your trailer determines what is acceptable to add-on or what voids the warranty. We have never heard of an OEM voiding a warranty due to this product being installed. You cannot use only self-tapping/drilling screws. You will need two 5/16” bolts through the frame (Step 1 of instructions). Preferably grade 5. Length of bolts is determined by the thickness of your plate or tube frame. In regards to the instructions comments, you have hurt my feelings. Between the video and instructions we find most people can perform the install with no problems. Be sure to point your air nozzle down to make checking your spare pressure easier. Also, using an anti-seize or heavy grease on the Locking Knob threads will help keep it from rusting due to the elements it will be exposed to.

👌excellent idea! Is all the mounting hardware, bolts, washers and nuts included? I've already relocated the spare up front under and behind the batteries on my travel trailer. My only concern is if I'll ever have a ground clearance problem. This system maybe what I need. In any case it never hurts to have two spares.

Tire mounting hardware is included, but frame mounting hardware is not.

Is it possible that you have a product that will also store a plastic empty black/ gray water tank along with the spare tir?

We have not designed one specifically for a Motor Home chassis. We can recommend looking into the Roadmaster hitch mounted model for Class C product.

are you planing on making a very secure locking system so creeps do not take the spare. as just a pad lock is a fools way, pad locks can be picked way to easily, or just cut off in 2 seconds.

    • @NorcoIndustries
      @NorcoIndustries  9 місяців тому

Since the Hide-a-Spare is a bolt together design, the thief can unbolt the tubes from the brackets and drop the carrier to the ground to access the tire. You would need at least three, possibly six locks to secure this to the trailer. If theft is a concern for you, I would suggest a cable lock that would go thru the center hole in the wheel and then locked to the trailer undercarriage such as the leaf springs, a spring hanger, axle tube, etc. Thank you for your contact and please let us know if any other questions you might have. - John
