I know exactly what you mean. A 'top 100 actors' list that is mostly stand-up comedians and sketch show actors who broke into films is hardly a conclusive list of great actors.
If anyone belongs on top it`s George Carlin, he can share the podium with Robin Williams, what a wordsmith, who used every tool in the box and made you think while you spilled your drink on your brand new keyboard, which I totally didn`t do. And I *definitely* did NOT shart in my friends recliner when we were high and watching Robin Williams, no no no.. But there`s just been so many great comedians. That being said, Jim Carey isn`t a comedian imo, funny actor yes, but you find me some clips of him doing standup that isn`t Unnatural Act. I love Jim Carey, but there`s at least 10 comedians that stand much taller.. Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Bill Hicks, Bernie Mac, Lenny Bruce and Rodney Dangerfield. Then you have Bill Burr, Louis CK (yes, I know, but he was funny af), Eddie Izzard, spectacular! (and very dazzling dahling lol), Billy Connoly definitely belongs on the list, so does Steve Hughes, Jim Breuer who`s a bit of an aquired taste for non-americans, but funnier and more experienced on stage than Carey. I`d put Joe Rogan and Uncle Joey over Carey when it comes to standup.. Not Brendan Schaub though hehe, only comedian less funny than Carlos Mencia and Amy Schumer. Also not a huge fan of Jerry Seinfeld, it`s so safe and bland (although relatable, but that was his one schtick when he decided to be a clean comedian). But we`re not all the same, so all opinions are equally valid. I just wrote this little essay to mention my personal favorites (:
