I had a Troy Bilt similar to this one that I built recently. I wouldn't do anything, and it was obvious that it was an electrical issue. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what was going on, but as usual, it ended up being something simple. I had recently taken the battery out to charge it, and when I did, it had broken the little wire than runs off the positive cable. I reconnected it, and it was good. I was frustrated by the time I figured that one out, lol. I only figured it out because I have three of them and looked on one of the other machines once I found that wire loose.
Toooom Doooobyyyy! Kudos to you for finding the cause! I've been hunting down electrical gremliins in a car for about a year! My solution? It's getting sold! Thanks for another great video! God bless.
It goes into the tip of the positive cable. If you look right under the terminal end of the cable where it meets the solenoid, you will see what is left of the wire sticking out. That is the same damn wire that got me, lol. I made a new positive cable for mine and attached that wire to the cable end.
I think I still have the original cable for mine. I could send you a pic and show you where it attaches at if you want to see it. I also have two more of these machines that still have the original cable right now. I could send you pics of those as well. That damn wire drove me crazy. I spent forever trying to figure out what it attached to, and then I saw a little bit of it sticking out from under the cable end.
That battery was produced in July of 2021. That's what the "G-21" tells you. The letter corresponds tot he month of the year. "G" is the 7th letter of the alphabet, so it corresponds to the 7th month of the year (July). I was a new and used battery dealer for years. That's the way it works with any brand that has a date code like that.
Seems they have figured out there to broke or the older ones are better mowers, both are right, lots of older stuff being brought to shops now every where 😢
I don't understand why people spend all that money on a machine and leave it sitting outside. I recently had someone give me a commercial grade Craftsman with a 54inch deck and 26hp Kohler that was running and cutting when they gave it to me. I was mulching leaves with it and the engine came to a dead stop. I found that the starter gear was jammed in the flywheel. It had been outdoors it's entire life, and what I eventually found was that the connectors on the key switch had corroded and caused the issue. It needed new drag links so when I tore into it to fix that, I found a seized drive pulley. I broke the carriage bolt trying to take it off, and ended up waiting a month for an OEM replacement since I could not find a suitable substitute at the hardware store. I decided to replace the blades while I had the deck off and found that the mounting bolts were nearly rusted away and the dust covers on all three spindles had gone bluetooth. Long story short, I ended up sinking $450 in parts into a running and cutting machine simply because it was left outdoors. It's a thousand dollar plus machine all day long and was worth the expense, but it would not have been necessary if it wasn't left out in the weather.
I'll work on my own machines when they are that nasty, but I will not work on someone else's machine if they bring it to me in that condition. If they don't respect me enough to spray it down before they bring it in, then i won't work on it.
I hate chasing electrical Gremlins ! ⚡⚡👺
That was a head scratcher for sure. Nice job

Look out Tom. That train coming in your garage. Really loud today. Another great video.
@@jackhuddleston6830 it's always loud in the fall and winter when all the leaves fall haha

persevere my friend. Well done
I was yelling at the screen, "hook up to ground bolt"!!!!! Before u went through all the trouble of removing fender!!! LOL
Thanks for going through that with us. Very informative.

That thing needs a good washing too.
wait til the end of part 2 tomorrow!
Have the same mower great Dective work
It is crazy that I have actually run into this exact problem before. It's weird to come across such an odd problem.
Thank you for the video sir 👍😎🇺🇸
Tom you fun to watch and I lol
Great video keep it up
part 2 tomorrow!
That mower is definitely needing a bath
Wash it first
That wire must power the fusible link.
That wire sits right over the battery. I think it just catches on the battery when you are taking it out and then it just gets pulled loose.

Yes I love working on electrical stuff but the customer always a problem with the price because they don't understand what it takes to diagnosis
Do you charge a flat rate for different repairs instead of a hourly rate? If so would you mind sharing your price list?
being retired and having zero overhead i take my time, i just charge fairly for a job without regard for how long i take

Why would you work on a nasty mower??? I can’t stand to look at it let alone fix it 😂
I dont understand why people caint wash the mowers. Unbelievable!!!
Convention wisdom would say that is a ground wire, but it isn't.
The first thing mr Doby needs is a pressure washer. This machine needed pressure washed bad. Not a garden hose a real pressure washer.
No.
