Pressure washing will also flush out all the lubricants from every bearing and shaft lever etc meaning you will need to strip it down and lubricate everything! Most lawn tractor manuals state do not pressure wash for this reason but rather blow debris away with air blower after every use, which has not happened with this machine, shame.
I can't believe how he turned the bike around. When he was riding he really isn't a goldwing type person. More of a hopped up dirt biker. By hopped up I mean powerful. When mowing before you sharpened the blades I could see long stems still sticking up, hither and yon. Almost every lawnmower today just uses a Briggs engine because high performance isn't it. When you look at the new side by side little units I don't know if Honda makes one or not. Around here they rod the piss out of them so why they only last around a year.

That engine was designed as an auxillary power unit for generators and pumps etc.. and the boffins at Honda decided to use it when they were designing their first garden tractor. Mine is exactly forty years old with having used Mobile 1 full synthetic it's entire life, still pushes 120lbs compression on both cylinders. The only drawback is due to it's pre-dating quick mower attachment designs with a lot of fussing around required to remove/replace mower deck. My neighbours have all gone through any number of John Deeres, Craftsman, and the like while this beauty just keeps showing off it's quiet ability to cut grass consistantly year after year.
Thanks for the update on the mini excavator been wondering about that. I thought it might be a parts issue. Great video loved the quackers and the doggie.
It's always great seeing how stuff was built back in the early days compared to now, where everything is plastic and built to barely last ti outside of its warranty. Sad we don't get stuff like this anymore.
Thank you for rescuing this mower. It will make a great machine for someone. Wow, this mower does a better job than most modern mowers. Very quiet mower.
The Honda Garden Tractor was an excellent score. Sitting idle for 15 years and it only needed minor repairs. Excellent job at getting the Garden Tractor up and running again.

I always wonder how you remember where all the correct screws and bolts go once you dismantle it. Good job on the restoration of this machine. Should last with proper maintenance and care. 👍🏼
I feel sorry for anyone who ever owned one of these and had the starter go bad. It would essentially total the mower if you couldn't fix it yourself, by the time labor is factored in.
I know what you mean. I had one and it had a bad starter and it sat around for almost a month before i figured out how to change it. Needles to say I changed the timing belt while i had the engine off
That was a great rebuild one thing I like about you is the you take the time to clean and go thru the hole machine before you work on it keep it up 👍 👌
I bought a Honda 4213 brand new in 1987 to mow my 2 acre property. The Honda was a good machine but not great! I wore it out in about 12 years. I had my son mowing and he forgot to check the oil and we smoked the rod bearings. I replaced those bearings along with a couple of new rods. A couple of years later it was burning so much oil I had to have it bored out and I replaced the pistons. The linkages holding the mower deck have no bushings. Its just a rod thru a hole. The holes wore very oblong and the rods all wore out. I did drill out and add bushing to all the linkages. In 1999 I sold the Honda and bought a rebranded Scotts / John Deere Sabre from Home Depot . I could mow my yard in half the time it would take to mow with the Honda. That Scotts / John Deere lasted 24 years without one issue until the hydrostatic drive failed last August. So I can say a cheap John Deere was much better than an expensive overengineered Honda!
I actually agree with you, however the John Deere Sabre is more on par with the Honda 4514 which is hydrostatic and a better machine than the 3813. I love the older John Deere’s if you can tell by the beginning of this video
That Honda may be well designed for durability but it's a maintenance nightmare. Replacing that starter at any labor rate would be impossible . It would exceed the machine's value in the first 30 minutes! well designed indeed!
Great design . Honda are the best at making things smaller , lighter and longer lasting than any other manufacture with everything they release across the board ..Good work sir ! ..
I had one of these. I went to change the oil and noticed the oil filter was empty. The plastic oil pump gear had broken into pieces. Luckily, it still ran good. I had to pull the engine to replace it, but it was worth it.

Bruh I recognize those needle nose pliers... They look just like my popular mechanics needle nose pliers I borrowed from my dad but never returned lol. Maybe made in the late 90s? I glued my grips on and they have stayed on ever since
There’s been a couple of these pop up for sale local to me and I’ve been itching to get my hands on one. Pretty cool engine design. Great video as usual man!
I inherited that same mower when I bought my house, I was told it doesn’t run. Two spark plugs and a starter relay later… it runs amazing, always starts and doesn’t smoke…. It’s from 1986!
thank you very much. I’m glad you noticed that because I spend many many hours and days editing videos. That’s why it takes me so long to put videos out. I might try and start cutting down on the editing so I can put videos out every other week or something like that but it’s also kind of hard working out of the small shop that I have. I have plans to build a bigger shop to help get more organized.
I was gonna buy one of these but it needed a starter and the guy said you have to pull the motor. I have no idea if it's true but I passed and you just said it in the video lol
You're making me miss my HT3813 that I sold a few years ago. Had the full bagger setup on it. They leave such a great cut and are so quiet. Even at full throttle, you can have a conversation with someone walking next to you.
Great job on the Honda lawn tractor. It is an impressive machine especially the liquid cooled engine. I guess they haven’t been made since the late1980’s, probably not competitive price wise with cheaper air cooled tractors. Good value in my mind, you get what you pay for, you really got a bargain at 0$!
I've owned quite a few 3813 and 3810 over the years. Yes, they are great machines but typical Honda, they don't support a lot of their older equipment so getting parts can be difficult. When it comes to what should be minor engine work like replacing a starter, it is easier to pull the engine.
This year I worked on and sold 1 Honda 3011 and 2 Honda 3009 riders. Absolute tanks, I can really appreciate their quality. They were easy to sell in spite being 35-40 years old.

3:11 - looks like an orb-weaver. Scary, but harmless. Great one to have around.
@@jdcunnington we seem to have a lot of those guys around here 😊🕷️🕸️
@@TheHomePros6221 - Then you probably have an unseen bug problem and they're helping control it. They wouldn't be there if there wasn't food for them.
If I was betting man I would say the starter hung up and fried the starting/running circuit.
Bruh I recognize those needle nose pliers... They look just like my popular mechanics needle nose pliers I borrowed from my dad but never returned lol. Maybe made in the late 90s? I glued my grips on and they have stayed on ever since
Lol yep that’s them I glued mine as well
@@TheHomePros6221 they are my go to pliers. They are pretty good quality 🤓
You have a very good grasp of how to edit the video to tell a cogent story. I sense a decent number of hours spent editing.
well done.
thank you very much.
@@TheHomePros6221 You remind me very much of another one of my favourite channels...Watch Wes Work. Very educational AND fun to watch...like yours! :)
@@jt9498 that’s awesome I like watching wes as well
This was a PRODIGIOUS amount of work, but it was worth it. This is a very nice mower.
@@Fixologist1 thanks man
Great video, you ended up with a nice machine. Love your work.
Thank you😊👍
I was gonna buy one of these but it needed a starter and the guy said you have to pull the motor. I have no idea if it's true but I passed and you just said it in the video lol
Yea kinda a dumb design
Really enjoy watching your videos, keep itup👍👍👍
@@AZVIDS thanks man!
Always enjoy your videos. This mower seemed like it was ahead of it's time.
Lovely video and well fixed friend 😊
@@shaunmccauley5129 thanks Shaun
Thanks you've inspired me to fix my leaf blower
🤣
You're making me miss my HT3813 that I sold a few years ago. Had the full bagger setup on it. They leave such a great cut and are so quiet. Even at full throttle, you can have a conversation with someone walking next to you.
Great job on the Honda lawn tractor. It is an impressive machine especially the liquid cooled engine. I guess they haven’t been made since the late1980’s, probably not competitive price wise with cheaper air cooled tractors. Good value in my mind, you get what you pay for, you really got a bargain at 0$!
@@Des-kh-41 thank you very much my friend!!
Great video, really enjoy watching your work.
@@3cl1 thank you!
Great video, haven’t seen you in a while
Thanks! Yea I’m trying to get more vids out I’ve just been really buisy😢
I've owned quite a few 3813 and 3810 over the years.
Yes, they are great machines but typical Honda, they don't support a lot of their older equipment so getting parts can be difficult.
When it comes to what should be minor engine work like replacing a starter, it is easier to pull the engine.
Yes you are correct
Honda quality!! Another excellent video
Love, your videos! Can’t wait for the challenging excavator update!
@@Dmfoffclock just got the gear in the mail so it’s coming up
This year I worked on and sold 1 Honda 3011 and 2 Honda 3009 riders. Absolute tanks, I can really appreciate their quality. They were easy to sell in spite being 35-40 years old.
