Please lay off that starter it is not designed to spin for 5-10 minutes. When you know the fuel line and pump are empty shoot some ether in the breather for the cylinders to run on until the engine pulls the gasoline through. Also those magnets should have been gapped. When the patent involves safety or decreases the use of fuel or energy consumption... they shouldn't be allowed to patent such things. Or these patents should be allowed to be used without issue simply because of how efficient and simple they are. Like Voit having the patent on how they make icecubes. The most obvious design principle and somehow they got a patent on it.... that ain't right. It's like putting a patent on "round" ... No one else can make a round wheel, or steering wheel. And a patent on pedal placement... no one else can put the gas pedal on the right... Obvious the problems that would cause.
I bought a JD Z 225 with a known blown engine for $300.00. Unit had a brand new JD deck. After new engine, 4 new tires and my labor it's into my hip pocket for under $2000.00. The big risk was the hydraulic drive motors but turned out they were in good shape.
That mower is a boat anchor. It's been abused and left outside in the rain, the flywheel is rusty from rain or possibly a flood, and the entire mower was underwater. The mower deck was the first clue it was junk, it crashed on the chute side hard and the plastic spindle covers are missing which means some hack was working on it.
Wasn't junk bro. You would have paid $6,000 for that mower brand new and he got away with having an operational zero-turn for $2,337. Sounds like a win to me
Those that know their mowers remove those mandrel covers because they only collect grass and dirt and cause the deck to rust out .Once removed you can easily keep the top of the deck blown off after each use.

I usually approach these kinds of problems a different way. I don't load up the parts cannon if the problem is easily repeatable. There are a number of diagnostic tests you could have performed after the engine was hot and wouldn't start. Spark, fuel and compression tests are pretty easy to do and the tools needed are not that expensive. But, as you said, you started with maintenance items you would have changed out anyway. Electrical components often will expand when hot and internal connections will open, causing failure. That spark tester would have come in handy on day one. You can also check the coils with a multimeter and test resistance. Whatever shop worked on it should have been able to find the problem but likely didn't want to let it run until it stopped. Time is money. Good work though, you weren't afraid to dig in and get it working. As others have said, set the coil gap with a business card and check the valve gap.
We bought a 2022 timecutter just like this one brand new, about $4000 from Tractor Supply to use on small residential lawns. It's been a headache. The key wouldn't stay in the ignition, someone damaged it at the store and it wouldn't stay on except for when parked randomly. Dirt easily makes it's way into the electrical connectors and causes issues with everything, so those could use better protection or a thorough cleaning. The belt does not have an easy adjustment screw in case of wear, you better buy the exact one it came with and it won't last long. The tires suck, will not stop you unless on a flat surface. Oem blades are cheap and terrible, buy some Oregon blades. The pros, the my ride suspension is good, and the engine is great for the most part, just make sure to gap the new spark plugs. No complaints about the hydros, going on almost 400 hours and the unit has been kept covered outside on a trailer.
My time cutter has a skip in it. Replaced plugs, carb, fuel pump and the starter. The slide discharge chute. Had a toro for 20 years, new ones are junk. Old one had 13 grease fittings new ones have two both on front wheels. Replaced half of this mower, within 3 years. About adding grease fittings to the front of mine.
My 2010 Timecutter has been a great mower with no problems other than had to replace the deck spindle bearings and a bolt holding the rear section together disappeared. Never had a problem with the Kawasaki engine.
That stopping problem can also be caused by a plugged air hole in the fuel filler cap (my John Deere L118). Took me awhile to figure it out but found the answer in the unit's manual under trouble shooting.
throwing the parts cannon at it right from the start. Remember, an engine needs 3 things to run, if any of those 3 things stop doing their job, THEN you buy the parts you need.

The coils in these engines go all the time it’s very common. The first shop who looked at it should have know that. We have a bin full of new coil’s 😂 at work it happens so often.
Something you did not do is check the gap between the flywheel and the coil. Checking the spark and fuel would have been the first thing to check. You could have easily removed a plug within seconds to determine spark issue and not fuel. 🤷♂️
Do yourself a favor! Lift the seat and follow the power cables from battery power and grounds and the starter mounts. Get your brass brush out and clean the corrosion off of cable ends and remount them. Just hearing you killing battery off after charging it shows battery may be replaced but the power and ground cables need to be inspected and cleaned. Just a little white powder corrosion can cause plenty of electrical gremlins after the mower sits. It also prevents the battery from taking a charge once mower is running?

Found a small country dealer who had one leftover from '23, and he would only take $500 off...so I went for the '24. Would've loved to have found a used one or fixer-upper, as I never buy new...but there's been nothing decent for sale around here.
i am 3 minutes in and sounds to me like the coil is breaking down. when it gets hot it quits..
It's probably not a good idea to be playing with the fuel system while you are charging the battery. Those small clamps get easily moved and can cause spark.
Okay, you over paid. My moto is that anything man made can be fixed! Now, slow down and process each issue. Bad fuel, remove the old fuel and clean the carburetor, change the filter, and retest. Change the spark plugs and oil. Purchase a fuel line cutoff. Buy a new seat, recharge or replace the battery, check the belts, check the deck level. Do diligent! 🤔🤓💯
That's one of the Chinese built Toro engines that have been discontinued.
The rust on the armature’s needs cleaned off too
I never seen 2 coils go out at the same time.
It's your coil it gets hot
The valves lifters or pushrods are the issue need to check the valve stems
Does it look perfect? No
Engine's knocking. You should answer!
$2,300?? It ought work perfect. Used or not.
Would you be interested in some prime ocean front property in the Missouri Ozarks?
Dont know a lot about mower engines but if it was a bike id say the coil is getting hot and puking out.
Battery wouldn’t go dead if you didn’t hold the starter on for 3 minutes. Hilarious you just kept throwing parts at it. You had no idea just like the guy before you 😂.
I was Gonna Say Coil Same thing happened too my Briggs and Stratton Took me awhile too figure it out ,Now stat's first go never stops ans starts when it's hot 🔥 😮
You didnt get scammed you just bought the cheapest one
Cheap stuff is bound to need expensive repairs
Seen coils go bad when they get hot and vent plugged on gas tank give the same symptoms
And why in the world would you spend that much money to buy something that looks like it came out of a cow's backside backwards? As soon as I saw this I would have put my checkbook back in my pocket got back in my car and left.
Never start a lawnmower without checking the oil level first. I do that every time I mow.
THESE mowers are just not the best deal at ALL !!!
