Bruh. Where's the Ukraine Episode?? I've been scanning your channel for the discussion. I can't watch another SOF guy talk about himself right now. Bigger shit is happening.
Jocko you have pronounced influence, please be advised the frontline of Ukraine supply for the fighters does not have tourniquets. The UATV latest update reveals from a doctor this crucial point of need. Perhaps you have contacts to expedite a solution. Thank you Sir.
I get what school of philosophy this guy's coming at it with. For the record, I'm not here to say whether it has merit, but basically: The relationship between individuality and society is the crux; like the fact that we like to think of ourselves as unique individuals, but still conform to a lot of social contracts and standards. You might go to a big chain clothing store and buy yourself a t-shit. You feel good about it, it's 'your' t-shirt now and you picked it out to say something about you as an individual, disregarding the fact that this very same shirt has been mass-produced and probably bought by hundreds, if not thousands of other people who wear it too. The same can be said about how it's an unspoken rule when you go to job interviews, that being well-dressed in accordance with societal norms will have an influence on the impression you'll make and the likelihood of you getting the position. The thought is that we conform to all these things passively, but still insist that we're 'unique' because of those choices, not in spite of them.
It's like the emo kids in high school. They said they were non-conformist and wanted to be different. Ironically they all dressed the same and sat at the same table during lunch. Or look at the motorcycle outlaw gangs. They claim to be outlaws, but they have so many rules right down to the color of patch you can wear.
There is no harm I now fear, for I have had the best influence I could have, I have confronted what I have done wrong and I have healed from injury. No one can do anything to me which I will regret now. My soul feels clean. I feel proud. Perfect? Not whatsoever. But I am proud to have paid as little I did to influence as I have. I wouldn't take my life's decisions back to spare myself pain if it means having failed to have had this influence.

Why should I have to get back into the business of developing human beings? Strong trees might thrive in weak soil to a point, but even weak trees can thrive in good soil. It's not about just cultivating and caring for the tree. It's about what type of soil one is planted in. The soil is worldview, your grand narrative, your conceptual framework. Is it coincidental, merely, that Christianity, of which untold amounts of conversion stories even within Muslim nations, is said to provide that soil? What's your soil? It's not enough to want the effects of something. We should look at the causes.
There is a solution to all, all of man kind'$ problems, we have to take America global, spread the soil, as was done on this continent shall be done on every continent and Beyond.

Spidey senses....the millennia of evolution that runs through your DNA that brought you to that moment...all your forebears helped you survive to that point.
The hero's journey is not just about inner work meditation and self-realization along with evolution it is also about action and service in love to others, in fact that is the most powerful and influential means of self-transformation which is to serve the other in love, unconditionally, till death, sike!! There Is No Death is Just an Illusion!
If I am in jail I will learn to meditate there. If I am hung there due to a totally bull charge, I will do my best to make the metal horns as I die. \m/ for survival was never the key purpose.
He talks about how mindless drones eventually run out of time in life to change. That's true, but it's worth noting that we run out of time regardless of how we choose to live our lives. The clock is ticking, and almost everything can be undone in a matter of one generation. Exercise and eating healthy is mostly about extending the clock. The tangible effect people have on society will dissipate very quickly. The emotional bonds developed will be remembered by those still alive to remember them, but even those memories die shortly afterward. There's nothing new under the sun. There may be a new piece of technology developed that will domino into some new technology, but the world is still fundamentally the same. People live, people die, and the next generations of humans try their luck in finding purpose, improving on past mistakes, and on and on it goes. Until you find something higher than what this planet has to offer, you're going to struggle to find any lasting meaning, whether you're a mindless drone or an introspective warrior who wakes up at 4am to conquer dragons before breakfast.
I appreciate your perspective but I reject your claim that one is destined to struggle to find lasting meaning without believing in a god. I wake up every day thrilled to live yet another. I've put effort into forging strong relationships with my friends and family and feel deeply secure knowing that they'll always be there for me, through sickness or otherwise. I enjoy reading philosophy, going to a stand-up comedy show, or conquering a mountain. My daily mindfulness and gratitude exercises have helped shape me into one of the most optimistic people I've ever met. I don't say that to brag. I simply wish to convey how much I love living, even when my external environment is in sorry shape (death, conflict, etc). Lastly, I understand where you're coming from when you voice concerns about how your emotional bonds (and other worldly values) will dissipate soon after you die. But I strongly disagree with the implication that nothing has value if it's not eternal. Who cares that no one will remember by name in a hundred years? That's mere fodder for the ego. What matters is that I chose to live and love while I was alive. If you think living a life like that is equivalent to being a mindless drone, then I don't think you're fairly appreciating how deeply rewarding a life one can live when they open up their heart and mind to the world.
@@kfcthanksgiving I still believe in the value of finding joy and smelling the roses during this one-way journey. I'm not saying everyone is a mindless drone. Most people strive to pull out of that unfulfilling existence, as you eluded to with your own experience where you found meaning and purpose. Regardless of religiosity, I'm not here to say that people can't find meaning. I think people feel very deeply about their relationships, occupations, beliefs, and hobbies. It's what makes us human. There is plenty of meaning to extract during the scant amount of time we get to live our lives. My main point is that after a few decades, there is very little difference between a mindless drone (a hamster in a wheel) and an introspective warrior who grows as a person, excels in their career, fosters strong relationships, and pushes themself to their highest potential. By this statement, I mean that there's very little difference beyond the short-term view. Both will grow older, experience suffering, lose their ability to use their bodies the way they used to, and eventually will end up in the dirt. No matter how life is lived, that experience ends when the heart stops ticking. What's the point of any of it if it all ends in the blink of an eye? If a mindless drone and a live life to the fullest type are both on their deathbed, who is more content? For the brief amount of time remaining, it's probably the latter. But once it ends, they're both the same. I'm all about living life to the fullest, but I do sometimes wonder why any of it matters if we just get Alzheimer's and forget it all anyway. I appreciate your perspective by the way. Please don't take this reply as aggressive in any way shape or form. I respect your view.
@@Greatscott24 not aggressive at all, happy to chat! “After a few decades, there is very little difference between a mindless drone (a hamster in a wheel) and an introspective warrior who grows as a person… By this statement, I mean that there’s very little difference… Both will grow older… and eventually end up in the dirt… I do sometimes wonder if any of it matters if we all get Alzheimer’s and forget it all anyways.” I’d first like to say that, while I think that is a very reasonable feeling to have, I believe this is a reductionist worldview that robs life of its higher order experiences. Again, this is a very common sentiment, and an intuitive one too. Cus how could there be any value in your life if you’re not around to experience it? I hear you. In short, it really just depends on the worldview you choose. I can’t convince you that living a righteous life creates value. I can try to convince you that things like love and sacrifice are the very fabric of purpose and are immortal properties in their own right. But a reductive nihilist can just as easily argue that we’re all just particles, a turd on the street is made of the same star dust we are, thus we’re no more significant than a turd on the street. ‘Tis the nature of relativistic experience and appeals. But humans crave purpose/meaning and I think that choosing some combination of an existentialist/stoic/Socratic worldview is far more appealing to the soul. Far more aligned with human nature and our deepest longings. That’s what makes it “true”. But many people aren’t taught such worldviews, and, in the absence of this worldview, religion is a FAR better spiritual commitment than reductive nihilism. Which is why I don’t criticize people who choose the religious path, cus it’s often the best option we are presented with. But I DO encourage my friends and acquaintances to explore naturalistic frameworks of meaning and morality. Worst case scenario, you remain unconvinced of a purely naturalistic worldview, keep your faith, but now have some beautiful new mental models in your toolbox to further enrich your life. Sorry!
