I really think Jocko needs to make his own clock, he can call it the Jocko-Clock. Instead of an alarm sound, its just Jocko telling you to wake up, and his tone starts with him speaking in a whisper tone, and progresses to him screaming to get up. $49.99.

    1. Get an escalating alarm or set your alarm to a progressively louder song (Jocko recommends Iron Swan by The Sword)
    2. Set your gear the night before. If you sleep with someone, get ready in another room to avoid waking them up.
    3. Check your diet. Avoid carbs and sugar spikes.
    4. Start working out before having caffeine.
    5. Power naps. 6-8 minutes with feet elevated.
    6. Get the blood flowing. Bang out 10 pushups, burpees etc.
    7. Go to bed early. Go rest when you are tired, don't stay on your phone or on the Internet. Read a book to help you falling asleep.

I struggled to wake up early for years. It wasn’t until recently I found a solution that works. We all have hobbies or things we want to do but we put them off because more important things take precedence. One for me is video games. I like playing video games but I’m a grown man with responsibilities. How can I justify playing video games when I’ve got a long list of productive things to do? It seems like a waste of time. But then I sleep in for hours and waste even more time than I would’ve spent playing. So I’ve been getting up at 4 am everyday, playing video games for an hour, and then going on with my day. Yeah I might have “wasted” an hour playing games but now I’m up. I gained several hours I would’ve otherwise spent sleeping that I can now do more productive things. I do it every day so my mind knows first thing in the morning it’s gonna get that reward and it makes it easier to get up. Maybe it’s weak minded, but hey, it’s better than sleeping in. Also once you start waking up early you start getting tired earlier in the evening and it’s easier to go to bed on time and the cycle continues. Makes the habit easier.

I know so many people might disagree with me or what not but hey man, if you find playing video games enjoyable or stress relieving or a way of escaping for even just an hour, then go play some video games. If they make you feel good and give you enjoyment, then it’s not “a waste of time”. Just because you’re not out there making money or whatever, doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time!

I had to seriously simplify my life to be able to get up early enough. I made a list of what I needed to do in a day/week. I put it in order of importance. 8 hours of sleep, workout, 8 hours of work, etc. When I ran out of time... that stuff got farmed out to my family members or I got rid of it - cuz it obviously wasn't important enough. But I know that I want to get my work out in before my work, so I have to get up at 4 AM, do a 30-minute scripture study/meditation, then I can work out. So I know I have to get up at 4 AM, to get 8 hours of sleep - that means 8 PM. So I'm up from 4 AM to 8PM. Everything has to happen in that window. The end. No arguments. That has saved me.

      @rachel.the.riveter 5 років тому +21

@@journeyfurthur6396 I agree. When I was making the change, I used an app (OmniFocus) to write out a strict schedule. I did things when they were scheduled, and did not vary. I need to tighten things back up this week because it has been a bit too loose lately, but I have a basis and that is enough to help me keep going. The nice thing is, you can always shift and rework when life circumstances change. My work schedule is changing to 4pm - 12:30 AM... that will change things, but I will still be effective.

@Nancy dude I've gone ten days fasting, myself. 25-30 is where it becomes deadly. Diabetes can be 'cured' with weight loss. Have you never noticed that type 2 diabetes patients are almost exclusively fat fucks? Crones symptoms are exascerbated by weight gain and diet.
Everyone in my family has diabetes and IBS/ crones. My grandparents and uncle died from complications related. Organ failure, foot/leg amputation, etc. They were fat fucks also.

One tip I found by accident for being alert in the morning... Within 15 minutes of waking up, drink at least a litre of water. I run a nearly identical schedule to Jocko's and that's the deciding factor on whether I drive to work tired or not regardless of whether I have a morning coffee which I usually don't. I never made the connection to carbs tho. I'll have to explore that. Also the power nap idea is amazing. 7 minutes has always been my perfect number. And I always set 2 alarms but I don't know why. Second one never rings. I'm a very deep sleeper but it's never more than 15 seconds from when my alarm starts till I'm standing. And I use the quietest alarm in my phone with volume on low. It's called discipline.

I’m a veteran, 9 ½ years in the army, so getting up early was bred into us. However, I found getting up early is overrated and individualized.
I run a lot, up to 75 miles a week, and I also love working out very late at night, 11 pm, 12 am, etc., that is when I love to run when very few cars are on the road and I belong to a 24-hr. gym, so going to the gym in the middle of the night works for me.
I had a job with flexible hours at the time.
But several months ago I secured a better paying job where I have to be in standard hours like 9-5, so in order to work out I have to get up each day at 5 or 6.
Both scenarios worked for me, so as long as you get your 7 or 8 hours sleep and your day is productive, it doesn’t matter when you wake up for the say.
I do miss running long runs at 1 or 2 am, which I did for a few years, something very majestic at that time of night and I live in a very safe suburban area, and never had any problems.
But now I do my long weekend run during the late afternoon and boy do I sometimes hate being around so many people and cars. LMAO 😂

@@christophersurnname9967 No. Point of waking up early is giving yourself a big challange every single morning. Because it is so easy to put your head back to the pillow. By forcing yourself to wake up when your are too comfortable you increase your will and dicipline. And another thing is (atleast for my opinion) nights are not productive at all. You are more tired. Ext. And by waking up early you finish the task you need to do by the time most people get up. This feels great. And you are more likely to make the day count.

Just learn the proper breathing technique as you through 'Kundalini breathing'(a type of old yoga/meditation)you'll end up breathing so deep, slowly and controlled your lungs can expand up to 8 times.
Breathing this way and 4 or less times a minute will automatically put you in a meditative state while increasing the secretion from your pineal gland flooding your body and mind with all those good hormones and oxygen rich blood. Your blood gets extra, extra oxygen rich which is really good for you, by proper breathing.
To sum up the breathing you breath in and out with you nose or in nose/ out of mouth, start by filling your stomach up from bottom all the way up to your chest and collar bone, trust me you'll feel it when doing it correct. Hold breath for a short while, not until you get dizzy then exhale from top of collar bone down to stomach.

I’d personally recommend Dillinger Escape Plan’s “Panasonic Youth” or Converge’s “Eagles Become Vultures” as wake up songs, especially if you want to wake up stage-diving.

I'm having rotator cuff surgery, this week. I messed up my shoulder pretty good. So, legs and core have been the order of the day. Gettin' after it!!!

Good to hear brother!! Getting after it!! I dislocated my ribs from wrestling/ jiu Jitsu and had to do legs everyday for about a month. My legs have never been as powerful since then and left a landmark till this day.

No bro. You should rest. Sometime rest and recovery is more important than killing your body.

@@AaronBriggsInc I'll rest AFTER tomorrow's surgery. I'll have a ridiculous amount of physical therapy. My legs and core are fine. Thank you for the concern. I do appreciate it.

I use to wake up at 6:30, and thought I was cool haha, been waking up at 4:45 for 4 months now and feel great. Waking up for a 4am meeting at 3:15 tomorrow... I was missing so much life

that’s why for certain events, i’ll try to get a little bit less sleep, because it gives my body that feeling of “okay i’m a little
broken down” so it makes me think more and be more situationally aware. get some. i’m gonna get after it today

There’s plenty of studies to show that the less calories/the less you or an animal eats, the longer it lives. Like many years more. Pretty interesting. Fasts definitely have a tonne of benefits physically and if done with the right motive also spiritually.

True. They say Jesus got His powers from God, but in reality He got His powers from fasting for 40 days in the desert.
