I am originally from Romania, now living in Canada. In 1996 I visited London and stayed at the favorite (by Canadians) hotel in Piccadilly Circus. Only sink in the room, no WC or shower, and you had to call reception for a maid to bring you towels and open the common shower door. That hotel is now a luxury store.

First thing I do in any hotel/airbnb is check for bedbugs on the bed/furniture and check the sheets. Those things can be in 5 star hotels just as much as 1 star.
Receptionist: says there’s 3 communal toilets on several occasions and even holds up 3 fingers to indicate it Simon acting surprised: ‘There’s no other doors in here so I’m GUESSING that must indicate there are only communal toilets…’
Careful, it’s contagious. I started doing it about 18 months ago because of Simon and now I can’t stop. Lifts, crossing the street, doorbells, it doesn’t matter. I can’t stop 😂
Regardless of 2 showers, it’s not super ideal because if 3 or 4 guests gets up at 7am to go to work or an entire family, you could be in a pinch for time….& there’s a possibility that the water is cold by the time you use it. Probably would have to shower the night before & do your hair in the morning. Great video Simon!

I kinda agree, only visited a few places in the EU but I felt like people from paris at least were the rudest, like come on, we're tourists, we don't get how metro systems work and the ticket office staff were, always, rude. We were 3 people, and one of the passes was booked for a day later, we came back, told them, they first were like "no no no this isnt our problem", we told them "why the hell would we book one pass at a later date and have 2 passes for today, we are 3 people", I didn't believe myself but they accepted it silently without much argument. Regardless, yeah. I hope not all of France is like that but my German friends always say they're expected to be rude 😂
re. first place in Romania: I feel like some of the negative reviews might have just been ignorant to the fact that _en-suite_ is *not* an assumption in many old-world cities. You just have to make sure to specify/ask, if that is a requirement. Travelers willing to forego it can save some money, and it can be a nice middle ground between a hostel and a much more expensive hotel. $25 for a clean bed and privacy is a bargain on most continents. I have stayed at a budget hotel in Paris that lacked prime location, polite staff, and where fresh sheets were apparently by request-and it cost much more. So I would agree with Simon that this place seems like a great deal!
The first hotel staff and guests were way too nice it actually made me more suspicious about waking up in bathroom with missing organs lol. You don't even see nice people like that in posher expensive hotels
They are nicer because they have not been trained by a hotel chain that tells them exactly what to say to clints. They just act like the human beings they are, which is much nicer than some trained monkey on a stick in a Marriott or a Hilton hotel.
I actually stayed there when I was visiting Romania some years ago and I was broke. It really wasn't that bad for being close to the train station and for the price. The staff were extremely nice.
