The way the c8 test mule goes around the ring shows this is gonna be handling focused machine not just power I love the direction the corvette is taking right now.
Sounds awesome! Been a Vette fan ever since I was this tall... I think my dad told me Corvette was the 3rd word I ever said clearly after Mom and Dad. These are exciting times to be a fan and see a major change in the whole car layout, Zora Duntov must be smiling from ear to ear. Too bad he's not with us to witness this birth! I'm also happy to hear it sounds like a proper Corvette with a thumping V8 as it should. The original V8 equipped Audi R8 sounds great, so why not have another mid engined car that sounds like a monster? There is a spot for those! Can't wait, can't wait!!
I actually saw one in very serious camouflage, a very loose wrapping with bungee cords holding it on, near Pittsburgh in PA this winter, doing cold weather testing I assume. The driver and passenger noticed I was trying to take a picture with my cellphone and blasted away. At warp speed. Very cool, can't wait to see them in real life.
Oh it was really awesome to see. The loose camouflage wrap they used had some kind of bars mounted to the body like on a military 6x6 canvas top to break up the true body shape, but the taillights and nose and how low it was gave it away. It sounded just like the C8's at the end of your video, and they took off like a scalded cat when they saw me try to take the picture. I felt lucky to see it!
Cool! What did the exhaust note / engine sound like? Naturally aspirated, turbocharged, supercharged? Reminiscent of the current 6.2L LT1? That must've been cool as hell to see in person.
GreekGuru74, It sounded "REALLY" healthy, but naturally aspirated I'm thinking. It passed me and then I was alongside it for about 2 miles in traffic, and the camouflage had me thinking what it could be for a few minutes, then I saw the taillights and the exhausts and knew what I as looking at. When the passenger saw me trying to take the picture he alerted the driver and they found a hole in the traffic and shot away at a high rate of speed before I could snap it. Rats! LOL
I live 30 minutes away from the Corvette plant, and you know ,,,i`ve never been there not one time. It`s in Kentucky, and i live just across the state line in Tennessee. They had to rebuild the show room floor there a few years ago, because of a big sink hole that occurred, and there was a few cars damaged, historical cars from what i was told. I`m definitely gonna have to go soon.
@@HorsePowerObsessed ,,,,Let me know when you wanna go and we can hook up. I cant believe i`ve never been, and im an American Muscle Car fanatic,,,,Lol ! I want to put a vette motor in my S-10,,, SO BAD,,,haha !

We get one sunny day, and the rest is rain, so there`s no sense in washing it.
Enjoyed this upload Justin. Yes, a mid-engine will "change" the "way" you/I/everyone will look at the Corvette. Obviously there will be two schools of thought, the "yays" and the "nays." At the minimum though, it will change the "how" we will look at a mid-engine Corvette. Yeah, that kinda doesn't make sense, does it? But it does make sense if you go beyond it's looks. A mid-engine has so much going on with topics such as "mass" and where it's positioned in a car and the related effects it has on handling, that it's mind boggling. I've always thought and have commented before that I thought GM shot themselves in the foot with producing a 50/50 weight balanced front engined car, starting with the C5, in that what would a mid-engine bring to the table? Apparently a whole lot. Couple that with what is known by the engineers as the "Polar Effect," which relates to aerodynamics, the mid-engine will not need gobs of horsepower to perform. And that applies to both track and straight line performance. FWIW, I don't think the first gen C8s will have any active aero, or at best, it would be very minimal in that the car itself will be aerodynamic enough to compliment the mid-engine platform. The later gen C8s will probably enjoy active, but these will be much higher end models at much higher cost levels. As always, Save the Wave.
As always Peter, great comment packed with great information! I was literally just reading an article about why the 50/50 weight distribution is still not as good as the mid engine placement. I'm not sure when we're going to get all of the three models I talked about in this video but I agree there's not going to be any active aero available specifically for the base model. I would imagine the Grand touring or the Grand sport version of this car will likely have something available. That's really what's going to allow this car to compete at supercar levels all while not necessarily jamming huge engines in it. It's definitely very exciting and I can't wait to see it!
I love the LS engines. People can complain and say "Ferrari etc gets more HP per liter" all they want. You just can't beat a large displacement engine that isn't working as hard for regular street driving. You can get 500+hp out of a large V8 and it will last for 100,000 + miles with far less maintenance. You can drive it every day, it's going to be reliable and you can enjoy it without worrying about putting that 700 miles on it for that trip to wherever. No doubt, a Ferrari or a Lamborghini is a great fun car but you are constantly worried about damaging it, you worry about leaving it in a public parking lot and even basic maintenance is unreasonably expensive. If you want a high performance car you can enjoy driving on a regular basis, you just can't beat a Corvette and I have been waiting for them to go mid engine since I saw my first Pantera in the 1970's. Can't wait to see the new Corvette. It has been a long wait and I am ready.
exactly my first reaction! why?! Corvettes looked apart, instantly recognizable! Now it looks like Ferrari from front angles, weird from side... Rear acceptable... ish...
Believe it or not GM has been thinking about mid engine corvettes 5 1/2 years ago, I remember my dad coming home and telling me about the talks going on but then it went away and I’m so ready to see this final product now
mid engined "nightmares" have nothing to do with the layout, and everything to do with running engines to the ragged edge (for the benefit of bench racers), or smaller companies not doing enough durability testing. The Corvette has an under stressed *truck* engine, which is also used for marine applications. They're solid as a rock (minus the AFM). The AMG GTR transaxle is $20,000, and I expect the Corvette version (also shared with the Mustang) will be much cheaper due to economies of scale. Going hybrid is a trap...no one can repair it, and expensive to replace. Blame the EPA for picking on private citizens and not doing anything about corporate polluters. 58% rear weight bias improves acceleration and braking, and low polar moment makes it much more nimble. So, yes, it will improve performance AND handling greatly. Anyone who says otherwise has no concept of engineering.
far as i'm concerned the bench racers ruined the Corvette just by wanting it to be an easier car for them to drive when most of them don't drive anything nearly as powerful
The only bad thing I can think of about the mid engine c8, it's killing Vette sales this year. Everybody, everybody, is talking mid engine c8, so if your going to buy a new Corvette, what would you do, wait?
Definitively a game changer. The US went to the moon. We can build the best car in the world if we choose to. "We have the technology we can build it'. (I think that quote was inspired by theTV show 'The Six Million Dollar Man'.
Many high performance cars have been designed by the same guy since the late 70s. He is retiring and his last designs will be rolled out in the next few years. His nephew bought the first Camaro SS in Cache Valley Utah, when the Camaro went back into production.
Matthew Wood yeah I can see that. It reminds me of Ferrari 360 only with the lines a little less rounded and more angular. I like it. It's funny though because I didn't like the C7 as well as the C6. I didn't like the straight fast back look of the way the roof line just goes straight down into the rear hatch back without any curvature the way the C6 does. Also I prefer the big round tail lights and didn't like seeing the rectangular shaped ones that the C7 has.
Actually its pretty much a knock off of the original iteration NSX replacement called the Honda HSC back in 2003 www.wsupercars.com/honda-2003-hsc-concept.php
For the sequential taillights, I'm inclined to believe that that light strip will not turn on one piece at a time in the direction you're turning like a Mustang or a foreign Audi. As Audi for example, has not been able to bring that style to the States due to a regulation stating that a certain a mount of light needs to be on the instant the signal comes on. Which says to me that the strip will come on all at once and sequentially turn off in the direction you're turning, and you can kind of see that in the photos you have there as well. Interesting way around the regulation.
Imagine a mid engine corvette with all the electronics and improved suspension for handling. Now imagine a 427 engine turbo charged. Now we’re talking 1000 plus horsepower in a package that comes in under 3,400 lbs. Corvette, going mid engine is also setting itself down the road for all wheel drive, most likely adding 2 electric motors to the front wheels.
Would you buy a 150k corvette? If not, dont go the nsx path. An LT-5 that puts 755hp will do the job. Even a naturally aspirated LS will do wonders in a lightweight chassis.
Buchholz that’s why they have various model lines. It’s not for everyone. Corvette would be going the hyper car route, Porsche, Ferrari etc for a fraction of the cost.
I wouldn't buy a 2020 C8 for the same reason I'd never buy a first-year car version. 2nd-year versions will have more bugs worked out on them. I would love to buy a 2019 ZR1 though cause this is one car that you can buy and even drive and it will still be worth something in 10 years cause it's the last rear-wheel drive and will be sought after. I think by 2025 or 2030 you will not see v8s produced or anything over 5.0 that isn't part hybrid. So it would make the last true old school high HP vette worth more.
there will be a continuation of the tried and true architecture FMR transaxle Corvette. and btw. the mid engine Corvette will not be a smaller displacement compared to the audi/lambo v10. there will be a number of engines offered of course. but "small" won't be a term that can be applied to any of them.
i just bought the C7 and love it. I'm trying hard to like this car but it just doesn't look hot to me. I don't like the front end. The back end is great but where is the sleekness? Vette's should be sleek.
5 reasons it will be a winner 1)mid engine 2)most affordable mid engine performance car in base trim relative to that of 718 Cayman porsche. 3)performance 4) awd option, trim levels, etc. 5)styling, exterior and interior
Great video Justin. One of your best yet bro. I'm putting you in the running for a 2019 Tubey Award for best UA-cam video about the C8 mid engine Corvette Awesome info perfectly explained. Sincerely hoping that this car comes close to what you've mentioned in this upload. Fantastic upload my friend. KUTGW. 😉👍
No, no, no Justin. You start by thanking your Mother, then move on. As my Mother used to tell me, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it." There wasn't a Drill Sergeant alive that scared me more than that woman. 😉
Justin, for Cripes Sake, Porsche is not pronounced "Porsh"!!!! It's "Porsh-uh"!!!!!! I would think a real car guy would know that! The only people who pronounce it "Porsh" are clueless Beverly Hills posers and wealthy celebrities who buy them only because they can. And the C7 began the trend of Corvettes which don't have styling that immediately tells you it's a Corvette. There's nothing about the styling of the C8 that says "Corvette" and it will surely be mistaken for a European exotic when C8s begin to hit the streets. "Born in America, but looks like it came from Europe".
If chevrolet wouldn't have taken part in shutting the fiero down because it was faster in its concept form than the corvette, making them put a smaller motor less work into suspension.corvette would've been left behind but the muscle boys cried enough to get the car scraped. It's a borrowed idea this is a modern day fiero. Chevrolet in the office, hey let's take the fiero idea they were on to something since they were faster than us in the 80s in testing. 2m8 fiero and I'd rebadge it as that too.
What the f are you talking about. The Corvette has ever looked or performed like a mid engine. Its a totally different modem as a mid engine and onlly looks like a cousin because its trying. GM is dead, their race team is the last remaining respect they rightfully deserve - otherwise, they are trash. I've been to tracks where guys who bought corvette's thought they had a hypercar and within several laps they soon discover they purchase a $90k + pile of shit with a transmission from a Pontiac. GM sucks, and they are dead the end.
A little late to the game lol. "Electrics are taking over now it is time to go mid-engine". Pride and stupidity is what took them so long. They were due for a change at least ten years ago.
The C7 is a fantastic looking car that will always have a place in my heart as well. GM has their work cut out for them to make the C8 better than the C7. It's gonna be tough to beat the C7.
I'm not sure if I am the only one, but I have seen a lot of the C8 renderings and to be perfectly honest, if they are accurate, the C8 is not a good looking car. The C7 is head and shoulders better looking, that's for sure.
I'm not 100% sold on the renderings of this car just yet. I do agree the C7 as a freaking amazing looking car so I hope GM has brought their a-game for the C8.
@@HorsePowerObsessedSeeing these renderings of the C8 just solidifies me wanting a C7 ZO6 even more. Unless the renderings are sooo far off, the C7 will be my choice soon. Thanks for all the information and doing a GREAT job with your channel.
the current design of the corvette almost looks like a hatch back wagon sports car at least the c8 will actually look like A proper sports car what exactly is aestheticly appealing about the current design ?
Not to my liking. The Corvette has a certain look, and this new idea looks like a Ferrari knock-off... not good. If GM wants a mid-engine car, design a whole new mid-engine car, don't mess with an icon. (I'm not a GM or Corvette fan, but I know silly when I see it.)
I am a vette fan, and you are right, this just isn't a corvette. It looks good, but they are just slapping the vette name on a car. A vette needs to have a nose long enough to play tennis on, it's had that since the 50's, and now they have moved the passenger compartment up too far forward and destroyed the look that made it a corvette.
Personally I dont like it. Corvette is meant to be front engine, rear wheel drive. It doesn't look like a Corvette anymore. They should have made a totally new sports car. Chevy GT or something. Lol.
The Corvette name brings down the value of this car, if they made a totally different car , and asked a premium price GM could've stepped into an entirely different market making luxury sport cars, NO WAY IN HELL would I pay close to 200k for a GM lambo killer 😂😂 😂.
They should have done the exact same thing that ford did. Could you imagine if their GT was the mustang and they discontinued the actual mustang? Would have been a terrible idea.
To really experience what this car could do in terms of speed and lower the risk of a ticket, I would have two options: go to the race track, or drive about 150 miles out of town.
I've always wondered why GM hasn't done a Mid Engine Vette years ago. Anyhow, I agree that this will be a game changer as long as they can keep cost down.
Your right but look what happened to their C4. completely re-engineered from top to bottom, best handling and best performing vette hands down. But they blew it on body design. That's why you can buy one of the best performing and handling vettes for pennies on the dollar. It can be made to compete with the C% and C6.
If production starts late 2019 that’s great news. If Porsche can sell base 718’s for 65K, Chevy should be able to price their base model similar. They have to beat the 718’s S, GTS and GT4 models to make a statement. Like some people said the looks also have to incorporate C7/ Corvette heritage at the same time produce an eye catching design. Let’s hope the design team makes it happen. This is one reason why I never bought a Porsche, I personally think the design is boring and bland. Not to mention the engine sound in the 718, ouch.😬
I'm not overly attracted to the design of most Porsches either. I have a feeling GM is going to knock it out of the park with the styling on this car so I don't think that will be a problem! I can't wait to see it in person though!
Yes i agree..i'm British..ti us Brits we don't see many vettes..but porsches are ten a penny. The Corvette wins hands down in looks, but also performance for the price as well. I think GM have to go all the way with the C8 or the Europeans will say ..its no supercar!
Please stop comparing a Porsche to a Corvette from a performance stand point there are close but if you talk about build quality, elegance, and resale value the Porsche is a stand alone model with no equal not saying anything bad about the Vette but Porsche is simply on another level but I love Vettes as well.
@@gtperfection1596 I fully agree, Porsche is just on another level, but I gotta hand it to GM, they can make a track weapon. Both great cars at the end of the day, can't really go wrong with either.
I hate to burst your bubble but if you expect a mid engine corvette at $65K I want some of the drugs you're smoking. All kidding aside though just from a numbers stand point they've basically had to build a whole car from the ground up. There's costs associated with that that will need to be recouped. Not to mention production costs. It takes the same amount of time to build a top of the line vehicle as bottom. So you get a carbon fibre splitter instead of a fibreglass one. Costs the same to install. So you get brembo brakes, costs the same to install as 2 piston. Doesn't take any longer to put on a 20" disc than a 15". Now there will be additional assembly costs to plug in the active aero etc, but the basic car will cost the same to produce. I bet you're looking at $125 base......
Great video. FYI regarding availability, I put a deposit down on one and I'm number 15 on the list at the world's biggest Corvette dealership. Last time I bought from this dealer I actually got my C7 under sticker so I'm hopeful.
I'll definitely check them out once the car is released but I am not a fan of paying for a deposit on a car that no one has any solid information on yet.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Yeah. Well the deposit I've paid so far is refundable and I'm pretty sure the follow up one will be as well. I bought my C7 without ever having seen one, just based on the almost 100% positive reviews of the car.
Yeah I saw it's refundable but I just don't like the idea of basically giving them money for them to earn interest on and then possibly never getting the car from them. There are other dealerships out there that allow you to put yourself on the waiting list for the C8 without any money involved.
Having an aluminum tub vs a CF tub as the other higher priced ME cars may make the C8 hard to achieve the 3,000# limit. CF is not significantly lighter than aluminum. Even at 3,300 ponds or so it would still be light enough. I'm already imagining who going to be the first to turbo their new C8. Yeehhaaa
Definitely exciting! I was thinking the same about the carbon fiber use, but it may not be worth it cost wise to save a few pounds. I just hope GM keeps the weight of this thing in mind and doesn't over do it.
John D, absolutely incorrect. Carbon fiber is about half the weight of aluminum and provides significant enhancements in strength and rigidity. www.dexcraft.com/articles/carbon-fiber-composites/aluminium-vs-carbon-fiber-comparison-of-materials/
@@EK-rr2md Thanks for the link I didn't think it was half the weight. I suppose things have changed in the last 15 years. Are you familiar with the automotive grade (in lieu of the aerospace grade) of carbon fiber they've been secretly working on in the Tennessee area for the last 10 or so years? A cheaper grade of carbon fiber using the "forged" / stamped process should be a lot cheaper than what most are doing today. I always wondered how the Alfa Romeo 4C with carbon tub design could be at that price point.
Mid-Engine cars can have less weight than front-engine or rear-engine cars, when the engine block can be used as additional stress-carrying structural members between the front and rear axle, thus permitting reduction in chassis weight. Additionally, some weight saving can be had by having shorter exhaust pipes and much shorter torque shaft from the engine to the transmission. And finally, when you shave 1 lb off any part of the car, you can save ~ another lb off the rest of the car from reduced engine weight, transmission weight, brakes, tires, wheels, and suspension etc... due to lower power and lower structural strenght... required.
If Chev wants to make a mid engine sports car, cool... But that car won't be a Corvette. I guess they can force the name onto anything they want but it's an insult to the heritage and the "Corvette" brand.
Just wanted to comment on when you said "much smaller displacement" at 4:07. Corvette doesn't actually have a smaller engine displacement because it's most likely going to be a 6.2 liter. But that 6.2 is still much lighter than a 5.2 V10 because not only it is missing 2 cylinders it's also using only 1 cam instead of 4 and 16 values instead of 40. "Small block" engines generally look tiny from the outside and weight about as much as a Porsche flat 6.
I think GM with produce a great car..but im not blown away with the renderings. If you look at the base C7 Stingray..its gorgeous..the Z06 and ZR1 are stunning. Its going to take GM an amazing design coup once again to acheive it with the C8. The designs ive seen for the C8R look a million dollars, but in comparison the base C8 looks way off..even like a different car. Corvette have to emulate ..a Corvette still when they design a mid engine, but i think they also have to incorporate the design to something with the looks of say the Mclaren ..especially the rear. So far thats been the dissapointing styling on the C8 for most people. Also the interior needs to be a two colour interior as standard and scissor doors on the high end version..that then would be a super car.
I have a feeling we are seeing a purposely watered-down version of this car until it's final release. I agree and I've said the same thing GM really needs to top The styling of the C7 and that is going to be very difficult to do but I have faith GM is going to be able to do it! 🙏
The rendering are way off and look horrible. If that’s the side greenhouse I’m not interested. Also the front of the green rendering is not going to get me to buy one.
I think this is a big blunder, a front mounted big V8 engine is what makes a corvette a corvette. That short hood look is not American sports car. Mind you I’m a guy who think corvette style has been downhill since the 1968 restyle.
I agree with the philosophy of your statement but it isn't 1999 anymore, it's almost 2020. Elon Musk is planning a Mars civilization, there's more transexuals in your local bar than you even realize, and yes, Corvette is adapting to modern automotive trends.
@@BassRocket Aston Martin and even Ferrari produce the most awesome, modern cars with a front mounted big engine. The C8 doesn't has the typical characteristics Corvettes had since the beginning. It's a damn shame
@Trigger some Liberals well live long and prosper if you can...it's not your fault nor mine things got so #effed up for us and future generations. I think whatever happens will be how it's supposed to be. All we have to do is study about what happened to every civilization before us. @@MarkGelderland think about the American Muscle Car market for a moment and think about who's been dominating the market. Dodge and Ford has been crushing Chevrolet. Maybe the release of the mid-engine Corvette will boost sales numbers.
It’s a high torque muscle car WITH the dual clutch transmission. People may hate it first because "muh dryving axpeeerience" but when the C8 destroys all the flashy modern fart cannons in drag racing people will come to accept the fast shifting transmission.
Ok, I may be a girl, but I’m become an obsessed Corvette enthusiast. I went to Corvette racing school with 19 men and me. In all honesty, I was the 5th best driver.....3 had Z’s......but I paid attention and did what was told. When you first start out doing all these exercises, including 0 to 60 , then 60 to 0, immediately following a man, in the last millisecond telling which way to go.....wet spins....learning how to curve an apex....etc...then you get on a formula one racetrack, and I mean one of the long ones, with the professional at the front, with 5 of of you taking turns behind him, but everyone follows, you start to sweat. Until....you get it. Then the fun begins. After 30, throttling to the floor, for 3 seconds, even in a Stingray, you reach 130, 140, then they scream BREAK HARD through the apex, and then you turn 45 degrees at 80, and on and on, through snake turns, etc....it was awesome. But....you had to LEARN how to control that car! The mid-engine.....give me a break. And all this hoop-la about all this horsepower?.....for who? It’s just bragging rights....no one is going to EVER really use that, unless they’re on the track! Never mind the price increase, which I believe their underestimating.....talked to a dealer....wider car, no trunk room.....whatever....I’m trying to talk my husband into the last Z 2019, before they go into this!
The C7s are a bargain these days. It's the time to buy. Like others have said, the first year of a brand new platform is no time to take a risk, unless you just need to be seen. By year two I expect the major wrinkles to be ironed out.
Agreed! The C7 is one heck of a car for a fantastic price right now. GM is going to be hard pressed to beat the C7 with the C8. I hope they can but it's gonna be tough.
oliverthecat666 Of course I’m sure! It was NOT an NSX, dude. I knew what I was seeing immediately, and was completely astounded. The sighting occurred earlier this week, on Thursday, I think, about 7:15 in the morning. I was in North Carolina, between Raleigh and Greensboro, on I-40/85, almost to Greensboro. Dark grey, all the badging, most assuredly a C8. And it was GORGEOUS!
racekar80 Then come down to Georgia and I’ll take care of ya myself. Or hit me up when the allocation for these are released they will be harder to get that the ZR1.
Thanks for all your great C8 videos. We've all been waiting for an awesome all new C8. This may change but I'm currently not impress with the C8 rear. It has very little rear engine vents for cooling, very small exhaust and way... to much license plate area. C8 rear lights also look horrible dated and boring. C8 needs a much more exotic tail lights rear design, speed control spoiler and diffuser. Hoping the looks of the C8 Z06 rear looks a lot better.
The Corvette was already scary as it is...now people may need a “Corvette Endorsement” on their auto insurance policies! Lol. Geesh, this C8 will be a Fxcking B E A S T !!🔥
Horsepower Obsessed. You got at least half of your predictions about the C8 itself were, incorrect. This is and was more than a year ago. Patents are a great idea. Indicates some of the future and ensures that certain paths cannot be taken by competitors. Great predictions upon obtaining a car initially. Waiting for the mind blowing price and getting one is rather crazy. Sequential turn signals. Kind of reversed, right? Exhaust note: You were correct about the 6.2, so all should be forgiven in your last commentary. The pops changes substantially in final version for the public. Nothing about the convertible except for the Leno vlog.
I realize people want all the information that they can get, but there is nothing to say that the test cars are using the engines that would be in the production cars, nor that the exhaust system wasn't just thrown together to allow the test mules to be put on the road to complete testing. The are, after all, development cars. Maybe the put whatever engine they had lying around in the labs to allow suspension testing (engine doesn't have to be the same as production cars, just has to weigh approximately the same), or transmission/transaxle testing (engine has to have representative power levels).
@@kostaskritsilas2681 this is a mid-engine car so they would be testing with the engine used for this car. The whole idea of testing a car is to get the bugs worked out and you can't work out bugs on a 5.0L and then just throw in a 6.2L at production. Also since the engine is in the back it will make the exhaust sound different.
what paint drips and misaligned panels ? you get that from germany's vw audi , only you still have to pay a hefty premium, other than GM, where you would at least get that standard. jokes aside now, I'd take miniscule build quality imperfections over catastrophicn engine failures and mechanical failures anyday, the latter is what you get, when you buy italian or porsche. but feel free to spend more (way more at that) and get actually a lot less in terms of performance.
@@bonosimic532 I was one of the guys who tried to buy a C7 when they came out, and when we went to the dealer to pick one up, there were actual paint drips down the door. Drips! We looked at a second one in the lot and it had the same. We went to the forums and it seems most had those defects. There were other issues too, all involving almost "casual" manufacture. I've never seen that level of QC in any car (except a Yugo). Then I decided to use one as a race car. The one we had lasted 40 laps. Torque tube blown, but not before we blew the coolant tank and overheated at about 20 laps the day before. I love the C7, and will probably love the C8, but they are trying to play in a pond where no one has paint drips and so forth. I do know that GM invested close to a billion dollars in a new paint facility, so they seem to have address it. But if it is anything like my 2016 Suburban LTZ, GM needs to fix a lot more. We just lost a transmission in that beast. The MSRP on the suburban was $72,000. To play in that category, you have to play it well!
Hopefully they learned from their past engineering mistakes and truly make a car that can stay on the track without warning lights of overheating engines like the ZO6 or overheating Trans oil in the ZR1 manual transmission. I’m tired of being the guinea pig for GM finding engineered flaws in the 2017 Z06 and 2019 ZR1 at the track.
HorsePower Obsessed like the Z06 and ZR1 they are certainly testing the performance ability to go from home to Dunkin Donuts for a Sunday morning cars n coffee.🙄
These are the 5 reasons why the C8 Corvette will blow your mind! What do you think of my list? Agree? Disagree? Let me know below! ⬇
Totally agree.
Can't wait to see it in person! 😮
HorsePower Obsessed sounds amazing.
Sure does!
@Burns me up. I have talked about that in 2 of my previous videos about the C8. Definitely a topic of discussion... on my channel at least.
The best part? It will make the C6 and C7 affordable as everyone dumps them on the used market to buy a C8!
The c6 are already dirt cheap.

Exactly! We don't need a huge engine to compete with the higher horsepower cars.
I always liked how much value you get with a Vette compared to any German or Italian car. Glad to see them progress even further.
My words exactly!
A Corvette was always my dream car as well. As a kid I was always playing with a model corvette of some kind. 😍

The C7 had the same mark up issues for day 1 release. Less than 2 years later the market for them calmed down.. I’m in no rush to over pay..

Wow that would have been awesome to see! I'm in the Pittsburgh area and would have loved to see that!
Definitely awesome!
Rats! LOL
This car is just in time for the coming recession.

Believe it or not GM has been thinking about mid engine corvettes 5 1/2 years ago, I remember my dad coming home and telling me about the talks going on but then it went away and I’m so ready to see this final product now
Oh yeah this is been a long time in the making!
mid engined "nightmares" have nothing to do with the layout, and everything to do with running engines to the ragged edge (for the benefit of bench racers), or smaller companies not doing enough durability testing.
Anyone who says otherwise has no concept of engineering.
the Corvette engine is aluminum, the truck engines and marine engines are iron. y do not know what your are talking about.
far as i'm concerned the bench racers ruined the Corvette just by wanting it to be an easier car for them to drive when most of them don't drive anything nearly as powerful
I'm looking at the 2023 C8, 3rd yr production should result in any issues being worked out, and no price gouging by dealers.
The only bad thing I can think of about the mid engine c8, it's killing Vette sales this year. Everybody, everybody, is talking mid engine c8, so if your going to buy a new Corvette, what would you do, wait?

For the sequential taillights, I'm inclined to believe that that light strip will not turn on one piece at a time in the direction you're turning like a Mustang or a foreign Audi. As Audi for example, has not been able to bring that style to the States due to a regulation stating that a certain a mount of light needs to be on the instant the signal comes on. Which says to me that the strip will come on all at once and sequentially turn off in the direction you're turning, and you can kind of see that in the photos you have there as well. Interesting way around the regulation.
Definitely! Good point.
Yup! There are a lot of rumors out there suggesting awd and hybrid.
I think that would push the price way to high for a Corvette
Would you buy a 150k corvette? If not, dont go the nsx path. An LT-5 that puts 755hp will do the job. Even a naturally aspirated LS will do wonders in a lightweight chassis.
Armand Smith that’s why they have various models. Essentially you’d be able to have the performance of a hyper car for the fraction of the cost...

And make the front end large enough to pack some bags, or two sets of golf clubs
It just doesn't have any cues of a vet😥
I am a vette fan, and you are right, this just isn't a corvette. It looks good, but they are just slapping the vette name on a car. A vette needs to have a nose long enough to play tennis on, it's had that since the 50's, and now they have moved the passenger compartment up too far forward and destroyed the look that made it a corvette.
imagine with gloss/matte black paint, tint, DRLs, smoked taillights, black rims (possibly factory) that would look so DOPEEEEE
Personally I dont like it. Corvette is meant to be front engine, rear wheel drive. It doesn't look like a Corvette anymore. They should have made a totally new sports car. Chevy GT or something. Lol.
I agree with you 1000%
The Corvette name brings down the value of this car, if they made a totally different car , and asked a premium price GM could've stepped into an entirely different market making luxury sport cars, NO WAY IN HELL would I pay close to 200k for a GM lambo killer 😂😂 😂.
Agreed. In my opinion, every Corvette beyond 1967 progressively became more bloated, bombastic, boaty and gaudy.
They should of just made it a different type of corvette for those who want it.
Agreed! 🏎️
Did anyone else hear that it will have a option with a DOHC??
I've always wondered why GM hasn't done a Mid Engine Vette years ago. Anyhow, I agree that this will be a game changer as long as they can keep cost down.
I think they will. The Corvette has always been a lot of bang for your buck and it has to stay that way.
They did. YEARS ago but never went into production. Look up "aero vette".
Your right but look what happened to their C4. completely re-engineered from top to bottom, best handling and best performing vette hands down. But they blew it on body design. That's why you can buy one of the best performing and handling vettes for pennies on the dollar. It can be made to compete with the C% and C6.
This has the makings of being a very affordable Supercar

And finally, when you shave 1 lb off any part of the car, you can save ~ another lb off the rest of the car from reduced engine weight, transmission weight, brakes, tires, wheels, and suspension etc... due to lower power and lower structural strenght... required.

I guess they can force the name onto anything they want but it's an insult to the heritage and the "Corvette" brand.
Fantastic video, thank you! Great content and great narration.
Thank you!
Leave it to GM to make THIS
the V8 Fiero we've all been waiting 30 years for!
Dude, the Fiero was just a regular sportcar, vs the upcoming C8 is going to be a Supercar with all fancy gizmos. Big difference!
Long overdue. I hope it gives the Italians and Germans a real run for their money...
Chevys are way more reliable already.
I mean in terms of better engineering, handling, and exhilaration..!
beautiful
@@HorsePowerObsessed yes i agree..but as usual only time will tell.
The rendering are way off and look horrible. If that’s the side greenhouse I’m not interested. Also the front of the green rendering is not going to get me to buy one.
ABOUT DAMN time
I think this is a big blunder, a front mounted big V8 engine is what makes a corvette a corvette.
It didn't end well for any of them once things got to such degenerate norms.
@@MarkGelderland think about the American Muscle Car market for a moment and think about who's been dominating the market. Dodge and Ford has been crushing Chevrolet. Maybe the release of the mid-engine Corvette will boost sales numbers.
@@BassRocket Yes you are right, lets still live in caves
, I can only imagine Linginfelter getting a hold of one of these cars, it's gonna be a game changer for America for sure.
And it was GORGEOUS!
oliverthecat666 Roger that, amigo! 🤣
if GM is looking for a tester I would be willing!!!
Me too!
Ya, you two can be the test dummies.😃
🤣🤣
Great video thanks
Thank you! 👍👍
I think the current Camaro is way more desirable than the current corvette and probably performs as good. It’s about time corvette upgraded
At 5:00 the black car has what I think the rear window will look like.
Expect to see a turbo V6. Lighter weight, enough power, better balance.
It's not out of the question!
Heresy..
Or maybe a naturally aspirated v8.
no v6 for sure !
My c6 has the rear circle taillights. Reason I say it’s the last of the original rear look.
Dealer experience still sucks at the Chevy dealership.
I could say the same with ford and dodge as of lately they all have problems so I sold everything and now looking for a good horse and buggy.
🤣🤣🤣
racekar80 Then come down to Georgia and I’ll take care of ya myself.
They should've named it as something else, the Corvette has always been an FR car...
Call it the ' Chevrolet Saturn ' 🚗
The Corvette was already scary as it is...now people may need a “Corvette Endorsement” on their auto insurance policies! Lol. Geesh, this C8 will be a Fxcking B E A S T !!🔥
That would be crazy! Can't wait to see what we get!
I doubt itll be light I'd say around 3400-3600
That's what I'm thinking, too. I wish they'd make it lighter.
If it's not 3000 lbs or lighter might as well have a factory 5 gtm built with a lingenfelter ls3.
It didn't seem throaty enough to be a 6.2 liter. I thinks it's closer to a 5.2 liter V8 but who knows!?!?
The Zora is being put on hold because the frame isn't able to hold the 1000 hp. I work for the company that makes the twin T's for it...
That's what I've heard as well. 👍
In other words, it's a loser out of the gate.
the paint drips, misaligned panels, and other GM "features" will dull the experience though.
Lmao 😂😂😂
what paint drips and misaligned panels ? you get that from germany's vw audi , only you still have to pay a hefty premium, other than GM, where you would at least get that standard. jokes aside now, I'd take miniscule build quality imperfections over catastrophicn engine failures and mechanical failures anyday, the latter is what you get, when you buy italian or porsche. but feel free to spend more (way more at that) and get actually a lot less in terms of performance.
Now the GM need to bring this C8 Corvette into a all wheel drive that will be a supercar✌
There are rumors that at least one of the models will be AWD.
With how long this car is taking to come out I'm sure they're testing the hell out of it. At least I hope so...
HorsePower Obsessed like the Z06 and ZR1 they are certainly testing the performance ability to go from home to Dunkin Donuts for a Sunday morning cars n coffee.🙄
Can’t wait for this car
👍👍👍
No Like, compared to the current vette. But, to each his own $$$$$$$
From the thumbnail I thought this was a new Mclaren. I must admit that is a good thing in my opinion.
Definitely!
Rear quarters to plain... front end too pointy
WHAAAAT?
That was edited and still undecipherable?
Did you mean "too" pointy?
God bless those that can afford to buy one.
