Great times ahead for us Corvette fans! What do you guys think of these options for this car? I'm sure they will get even better with the Z06, ZR1, etc. Let me know your thoughts below! 😎👍
As an Aerospace Engineer, I can say that the biggest problem with a mid-engine car is HEAT. Putting a 250 degree engine just inches away from a 70 degree passenger section is a huge technical challenge. The ideal solution would be using ceramic liners on the inside surfaces of the cylinders. I helped design the ceramic tiles on the space shuttle, and that material is absolutely a dream come true. I wonder if you can put me in touch with the engineers working on the C8 engine, because the Corvette should always lead the way with technology.
The C8 looks nice and I'm sure it will not disappoint in terms of performance when it becomes available. However, I'm partial to the C7 Grand Sport because to me it represents the perfect blend of performance and handling whether you're on or off the track. But then again the C8 Grand Sport version might just raise it to a whole new level of driving bliss. Only time will tell.
I feel the same way about my C7 Z06. For me to even consider a C8 it would have to be a really really good car because the C7 Z06 is amazing in my opinion!
Another mod that I think is big is the gear ratio! 362 and 380 how many Corvette users would have loved to change their gear ratio to like 373 gears? But to change those gears is very expensive due to the design of the Corvette and now going to be standard :) Huge! That is going to make that great in the quarter mile and track and with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission! :)
@Daver G and rpm band of the motor. Which I heard will be a fast revving flat plane crank design with DOHC with optional twin turbo. Will be interesting when more info comes out
I ordered the 2LT model in Torch Red. Only options I got on it was the front lift, wheel locks, and battery tender. I didn't want the Z51 package because I wanted an old man's car. Maybe I'll add a spoiler later. The goal was to keep cost down.
hi Justin, I did a 250 mile drive in the 14 Stingray today, which in ended in Yuma Az. They have a GM proving grounds here, where 5, C8's were spotted on public roads. Afew days back. I will do my best to witness seeing one. Of course I will make an offer on it, like a straight across trade for my C7...lol... Maybe take a camo panel off, wishful thinking...to bad I can't attach a photo if I see one...if I see anything, I will post...thx for your uploads.
Lightweight would be great. It all comes down to cost and keeping at least the base model still affordable. Technology aside (and GM has plenty of that) my biggest decision is what color to get. It certainly will not be black.
LOTS of great options. I think the more options you offer a customer. The more interested they will be in purchasing a vehicle. Chevy Corvette is steadily improving. 💯👍🏾
A beautiful car. Beats my C4 for sure. Something I've always wanted with the sound system would be something like my iPod, where I first list all my individual songs and then I set up a bunch of "Playlists" containing whatever I want for however I feel at the time. I set it all up on my computer and transfer it by a USB stick (either keep it run by removable sticks or download it to the memory of the car itself). Then, I want it all to be voice activated.
I know... It's unfortunate. This car could be even better with a lower curb weight. I'm hoping GM figures out how to shed some of it for the more performance oriented models.
@@HorsePowerObsessed +Weight is a trend across all cars. Big corporate GM is out there with other manufacturers constantly lobbying for more and more regulations to forcibly sell more and more tack-ons. It's bad when a rumored 900 HP hybrid has a lower power to weight ratio than your C7. Even the base C8's increased HP is lost in the same power to weight ratio as the base model C7. Light weight with the same power to weight ratio is always better. For example, the car can turn.
Hard to get excited over different color seatbelt options. Rear ratio choices, suspension, sport seat options, horsepower, weight (lower the better)now you have my attention.
Two toned seats and interior is great..one colour only is fine but in todays top end sports cars..a two colour interior looks so much better. The front lift is superb. I'd like to see an option for scissor doors. If GM think thats not practical for its average Corvette buyer....think again..you can get a door that opens conventionally and scirror door style all in one door. A large spoiler should also be an option as the square rear end of the C8 is to me slightly dissapointing from a design point of view. Look at the mclarens, ferraris and lambos for example some have more rounded exciting rear ends which i think the Corvette should have. Apart from that the rest of the C8 looks great.
@@johnd5805 haha! the lighter the better but with all the regulations for safety equipment and with bean counters reducing weight will be hard to come by. wont be surprised if curb weight is 3700 lbs.

The bigger and bigger screens in my opinion is a huge mistake. One of the things I hated about my C7 the most was the screen. It's constantly taking my eyes off the road and distracting me and not letting me really enjoy the Driving Experience. If you're going to have a screen give an option to hide it not just turn it off. I looked at the 12 inch screen in the RAM. Just too much. I love new tech but there's just too much going on in the interior and with a car like a Corvette it's just taking away from the Driving Experience in my opinion
I think car manufactures success & profits would improve by communicating during the C8 design stage with corvette clubs and owners. What if GM during the design stage had presented 3 r 4 prototype mid engine C8 with estimated pricing for review. Then let the buyer vote which one was most desirable before spending millions or billions. This would help eliminate costly failure and insure buyers market. GM would gain a huge amount of support and gratitude from millions of corvette enthusiast. I think it would be a win win for everyone.

I haven't heard anything yet. I would imagine it will be an option. The leaked interior photos show a black seat with red stitching so that has to be an option.
You know they will, just a matter of when. Chevy will most likely follow their playbook, Standard coupe first year (doubt they'll make a convertible but you never know), Z06 second year, Grand sport third year, then Zr1 fourth or fifth year and all their little special editions of each model along the way. They'll get everyone who has to have the latest and greatest to buy the standard coupe, then those that can afford it will upgrade to the Z06 the next year, some will upgrade to the Grand sport the third year, then a lot of the ones that upgraded to the Z06 will upgrade to the Zr1 when it becomes available.
The dual clutch will shave half a second off the 0-60mph time. I was hoping for a smaller block 8 with a dual Turbo like Porsche is using. Why? you ask, well for max torque off the line at 1200 rpm , high end torque for a car requires wringing the engine out and a lot of shifting time. In a mid engine car, track times are shaved because of better cornering, add to this the DCT and the advantage of dual turbos and a lighter engine with more available low end torque is better tailored to a mid engine car. A smaller engine would likely weigh less and maybe leave more trunk space.
Chevy's small block is one of the physically smallest and lightest v8 engine that exists. It doesn't get better than what they have. Turbos will add weight and complexity, which increases cost
I really hope there’s a cadillac version. I don’t really understand why they’re making 2 corvettes instead of a traditional corvette and a mid engine Cadillac but what do I know 🤷♂️
They are testing TT V8s. I hope they release a Z06 version but doubtful or else I'll be waiting until next year to order. Can't wait. It's going to he amazing and so worth the wait. They been testing Mid Engine for the past 5 years. Hopefully that's been enough time to get it right.

Engine and transmission combo is not an option. Not so sure about the HD backup. That may be standard. That's what comes with the car. Sooooo, you're missing at least the 5th gotta have option.
They could also do that thing that Cadillac does with their chassis/panels. I think the ct6 uses it. They essentially drill holes that will maintain the rigidity but cut the weight, so this could be by the Cadillac alternative for Germans have now been almost 100-200 pounds lighter. If GM starts throwing carbon fiber at everything then that will undoubtedly price the C8 out of a lot of people’s price range imo.

From what he told me I think yesterday the z06 c8 variant will be In the 700ish hp range so basically a c7 zr1 or more powerful. Which makes me pretty happy
@@thenavigator5889 I wanna say a year because the c7 stingray came out in 2014 and the z06 came out in 2015. But I advise you to wait before purchasing the z06 c8 and wait for complaints from overheating because the 2015-2016 Zo6 c7 overheated and now we're talking about it having more hp. Also they usually give the newer year corvettes more features like Apple car play so they may add something. Sorry about the long comment.
Dont be too shocked to see a turbo'd v6 appear out of no where. The C8 is really just GM having their hand forced by the Ford GT. It has to be competitive in IMSA and WEC where the C7 has struggled against the Ford and Porsche. Weight distribution, handling, fuel economy, the LS islimited even as good as it is.
Just got a call from the GM form my local dealer he said i can’t order my car till Jan and said they are shipping him one for the floor and said he does not think he will have any orders delivered till February... I am going down to talk to him see what other info I can get out of him ....
Read somewhere that the dual clutch transaxle would be a 7 speed built by Tremec. Same basic trans (albeit not in transaxle layout) as is expected for the new Shelby GT500. Any word on this? Is Tremec making the trans for the C8? I know Tremec does make an OEM only 7 speed dual clutch that is available in either form (transaxle or not). www.tremec.com/menu.php?m=155
The price of the C8 " leaked" as the $100,000 range puts it out of reach for a lot of people. Which is great for the resale value of C7s. Chevy should have done more marketing analysis to determine who will buy the C8. Good luck GM!
We will watch this Corvette evolve into the mid engine Camaro z 1. It will then change to the mid engine Equinox (sold with advanced Corvette technology)
Well, its good to know that this channel has put its emphasis on what is truly important (colour matched seat beltsand interior colour range) when the important options on the C8 are leaked. I mean, colour matched seat belts will definitely help makethe C8 competitive against Ferrari, Lamborghini, and the Porsche 911 GT2/GT3, won't they? Sorry, but you need to get your perspective re-adjusted. Your channel is called Horsepower Unlimited, not Better Homes & Gardens. Talk about suspension packages, engine ranges/horsepower levels, availability of active aero, tire/wheel packages, chassis rigidity, and things of that nature. I could care less about whether the in dash display is 720 P/1920P/4K/8K or a bazillion pixels, as long as the display is clear. Early C7 owners had no problem buying cars with black seat belts, and I doubt many prospective C8 owners would have, either, so none of this is anywhere near as important ir significant as you make it out to be.
Which is why I talked about the horsepower at the end. Options are a good thing to have in a car and all of the suspension/tire/brake info was plastered on the screen 100 times and talked about in other videos I have. Don't worry, I'm quite focused on the performance of the car, but that doesn't mean these other things are not important. 🤷♂️ You can check out the 4 other videos on my channel that talk about active aero patents, engine options, tire sizes, suspension, etc if you'd like. 👍👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed I hope so. But that goes against how most manufacturers do things. The higher end models typically automatic cause "performance". This is a pretty big step backwards

I fear that the design is lacking. Thus many after market companies will jump on board- kicking the original C8 design to the curb. This (perhaps) is greatest mistake by GM. Think "Ford GT" when it comes to design. Knock it out the park or else people will be sleeping in the stands. If anything the C8 has too look better than the C7 and the C7 is really nice design.
The luxury aspect of this car will be overshadowed by tech guaranteed. We dont want a 4000 LBS car that looks nice, and if it is then GM failed miserably. This car as a base model must be performance oriented from the start and able to beat a 911 GT3 in performance and comfort. When benchmarked against the 911 991 4s then if it exceeds those levels by a healthy margin it will exceed its goal. GM knows what its doing and I seriously doubt this will just be another nice looking sports car like a Audi r8 or a nsx. If it is then a whole lot of people will be disappointed with the results. The Audi R8 dosent sell because its too much of a cruiser with a ridiculous price tag. I am counting on 992 GT3 performance levels.
Good points made..but because the Corvette is such a big seller volume wise it also has to meet a certain criterior for everyday use for its customers that some other sports cars maybe dont. With the Corvette it still has to be that all round sports car..ie. looks performance and gadgets technology etc. Both a race/sports car and one that many want to also be able to use it for shopping daily driver/crusier as well..i think GM have enough experience to do that .
@@studio-flash I would love to see the front wheels driven by electric motors. This would make the car really good in snow. Porsche Caymans are good in snow even without 4wd, because they have mid engine layout. I imagine a 4wd Vette would be a big seller in the northern states.

i'll guess over 3500 lbs
What are the other engine options? Prefer 650+ HP version
From what he told me I think yesterday the z06 c8 variant will be In the 700ish hp range so basically a c7 zr1 or more powerful. Which makes me pretty happy
@@bladeexcalibur1334 , how long will we have to wait for that one?
@@thenavigator5889 I wanna say a year because the c7 stingray came out in 2014 and the z06 came out in 2015. But I advise you to wait before purchasing the z06 c8 and wait for complaints from overheating because the 2015-2016 Zo6 c7 overheated and now we're talking about it having more hp. Also they usually give the newer year corvettes more features like Apple car play so they may add something. Sorry about the long comment.
Flat plane crank with DOHC and optional turbo from what I've read and seen. Who knows for sure.
So what engine will produce the 900 to 1000 horsepower
That is rumored to be the top dog ZR1 equivalent.
I don’t bother with the base model vettes
Dont be too shocked to see a turbo'd v6 appear out of no where. The C8 is really just GM having their hand forced by the Ford GT. It has to be competitive in IMSA and WEC where the C7 has struggled against the Ford and Porsche. Weight distribution, handling, fuel economy, the LS islimited even as good as it is.
Seat belt colors? HD display and cameras? Really?
I’m certainly getting one...no overpriced European model for me..
Just got a call from the GM form my local dealer he said i can’t order my car till Jan and said they are shipping him one for the floor and said he does not think he will have any orders delivered till February... I am going down to talk to him see what other info I can get out of him ....
That sounds about right but let me know what he says! 👍👍
Nice Camaro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣
To me the leaked interior pic color would be the "natural" but just my opinion...
I thought the same thing! A lot of other people (who claimed to be close to the source) said it wasn't so who knows.
The current gray is pretty light but when I look at the leaked pic I'm seeing beige/light brown. They'd probably know better than me though!
Exactly what I said! 🤣🤣
WOW - coloured seat belts!!! Epic leap for GM - Did they get a patent??
Goodbye sub $100,000 corvette
Fantastic vlog!👍
Thank you! 👍👍
You think its going to weigh less then 3200 pounds. I really hope you're right but I doubt it very much.
I don't think that it will. I HOPE it will!
John Lukach 3,550 will be curb weight.
The C7 Z06 and up easily hit the hundred thousand-dollar price range and that car still sold pretty well so we'll see.
We will watch this Corvette evolve into the mid engine Camaro z 1. It will then change to the mid engine Equinox (sold with advanced Corvette technology)
what are you even saying
What about a convertible option?
Spyder style convertible coming soon.
3200 lbs is probably unattainable nowadays, but sub 3500 would be commendable, and fast and fun!🇺🇸
Totally agree! I can't wait to see what we get!
3200 isn't gonna happen imo
3500 sounds attainable
@@sammolloy8129 Yes it does and that would be the maximum I would like to see on this car.
In the past easier to go up in horsepower vs lightening vehicles. Lightening vehicles very costly.
Hire some Ferrari designers!!!
What do you think the hp for the z06 will be.
I'm thinking around 700-ish. 👍👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed Jesus that's zr1 status from the c7.
That is the idea! Should be better than the C7 in every way or it's not worth it!
@@HorsePowerObsessed Exactly! Next gen more HP

They need to make a manual or im not even thinking about getting it
I hope they do as well!
Then don't get it. The auto is faster then you are.
There's more to it than that....
@@johnw91498 but its got no soul
Is it a 5.5 twin turbo?
The base model that's coming first is not. Rumor has it the top end model will be, though.
Looks like the C8 will beat the Camaro for Blind Spots by a hundred miles!
By now we should see a 4X AMOLED display, and an upgraded seat-belting system, not the lap-shoulder legacy thing you get in a Cruze!
Agreed!
Less than 3200? Not going to happen.
I know.. 😟
No manual, that's a major disappointment. Shame really, would be the only car of it's kind to offer one.
I think they still might in the higher end models... 🤞
@@HorsePowerObsessed I hope so. But that goes against how most manufacturers do things. The higher end models typically automatic cause "performance". This is a pretty big step backwards
Not for enthusiasts it isn't. They have filed a patent that tells me we will see a manual at some point.
@@HorsePowerObsessed that's really good news I didn't know that. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Will make a really fun street car
@@NatoriousGamePlay agreed! 👍👍
Great video
Thank you!
Interestingly nice...
I predict it starting just under 60k
lol I agree!
$125K while not a cheap car it is definitely on the low end of the super-car price scale
To all the lovers and haters of the C8
It’s simple as fuck
If you love it buy it.
If you hate it don’t.
Geez
Exactly. Not sure where the confusion comes from.
keep your C7 ...C8 need to stay in development a little bit longer - like 4 years.
I'm keeping my C7 for now... we'll see what happens on the reveal date!
grow up
@@fxuz7906 the problem is exactly that i "grew up" on Corvette ...from a school lunch box to blacklight wall posters ...had Chevrolet came up with something that would excite life long Vette Fans I would surely be celebrating but the C8 is an embarrassment - stuartchilds.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/2019-chevy-corvette-price-1024x683.jpg
@303StreetMachines no millenials could afford a c8
@303StreetMachines no millenials would want to be seen in a corvette because of the mid life crisis meme
The only option I would want is not available: a stick shift
Subbed!
Thank you! 👍👍
the real fanatics of v8 corvette will be disappointed, that isn't a corvette,c7.r is still better with that front engine and particular sound
Chevrolet would like to know your location
🤣🤣
My 1976 Pontiac grand prix had blue seatbelts. Just saying
Yeah, but did it have all the other color options? When offered options, we all win!
Shocked that Safety Orange has not been made mandatory so the cops can see if you are wearing them
I don't like the tail lights.
Yep, not a fan. Maybe it might look different in the final reveal?
Hopefully they have the Apple car play option because that Chevy mylink shit is TRASH.
strong resemblance of ferrari 458
I fear that the design is lacking. Thus many after market companies will jump on board- kicking the original C8 design to the curb. This (perhaps) is greatest mistake by GM. Think "Ford GT" when it comes to design. Knock it out the park or else people will be sleeping in the stands. If anything the C8 has too look better than the C7 and the C7 is really nice design.
5:28 is when the video starts
Well those 4000 plus pounds and 1000hp sound a lot like the Dodge Demond.😂
I still think american muscle car the motor should be under the hood not in the trunk.
Joe Dicey lol it’s not going to be in the trunk 😂
AWESOME
👍👍
Use Flex Seal.
Porsche Caymans are good in snow even without 4wd, because they have mid
engine layout. I imagine a 4wd Vette would be a big seller in the northern states.
@@zenjitsuman yes good point..
