As long time fans of the Dragon age series (yes, even Inquisition) we were really looking forward to Dreadwolf. Maybe you haven't played the games and are wondering how such a shiny, happy trailer could get us all butthurt? Well, it's because the world of Dragon Age is super dark and literally ending - blights and breaches have torn it apart and it's always been up to us, the player, to salvage what little good is left using only the bleak cards we have been dealt.
In the Reveal Trailer, everyone is having a laugh and it appears if they could just assemble the perfect combination of "different" people that in itself would solve the problem. This isn't the solution to any problems in the world of Dragon Age or the Real World. It only works if the problem is making your Corporation look like it cares about warm hearted people instead of just cold hard cash.
Scrolling down through the comments you're likely to find some foul language and strong opinions and that's ok...
What isn't ok is Corporations weaponizing inclusion just to sell titles - because that provokes a culture war that delays the realization of actual equity in the real world.
What isn't ok is altwhite fellas calling for exclusion of characters based on their appearance - because that's racism.
What isn't ok is pro-DEI folks calling everyone who doesn't agree with them 100% a bigot - because that's predjudice.
It does not matter what your characters look like or feel *outside* of the game-loop - that's just the surface. What do they actually do?
What matters most is a satisfying storyline and an entertaining game-loop that doesn't simply funnel you towards a fomo-or-microtransaction crossroads.
And we'll die on that hill if we must...

@@UnscriptedHonest I love this take. And thank you for making it. Bioware fans are hurting. We used to have the greatest company in gaming making the greatest games and we miss that experience. Something happened in the last decade to ruin the wonderful worlds and adventures we used to have to experience. I understand both sides perfectly. Theres nothing wrong at all with wanting to be represented in an rpg. Rpgs are based entirerly on immersion. Its hard to immerse yourself in something you cant identify with. I get it. But these companies arent writing stories for representation. They are being paid millions to alter great stories in post edit for what amounts to bribes and thats both dishonest and ruins the games with bland or poor characters. Thats what im upset with. I dont care who a character loves. I care that the story fits the development of the character.

I'm really confused about what exactly is the problem with this game? Can someone give me more context?
@@MoonLightHAB Depends on who you ask. For me, it has a lot to do with how AAA game design itself has (d)evolved over the last decade and the promo material for DA: Veilguard checks a lot of red flags.
Note the tonal shift between trailers for the older games and this one. This is basically Disney's Dragon Age.
@@MoonLightHAB The primary issues stem from the recent marketing campaign doing a terrible job showcasing a game that looks (and sounds) like previous titles and a poor recent history of launch titles from Bioware making people suspicious of the game's quality. The last Dragon Age came out over a decade ago and they tried marketing it to modern audiences which only confused people. DA historically was a grimdark high fantasy with orchestral themed music as its backdrop which the trailer did not showcase to the chagrin of longtime DA players. A third issue people had was that overweight or gender neutral characters in western gaming trailers often comes with baggage that announces the story is being altered for free money handouts from dei investors. Younger players mostly just looked at the trailer confused as there hasnt been a game quite like DA in their lifetime. DA, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Mass Effect were the crown jewels of Bioware and all of them have virtually vanished from the industry as writers and key developers left Bioware to form new studios.
I personally like the playstyle they showcased in the trailer and companions are going to be a huge part of the game but the art style for some of the characters is not visually appealing and should hopefully get fixed. The music for the game also needs to be classical or orchestral or its going to sound wrong. But otherwise, I'm hopefull. We shall see.
@MoonLightHAB if you are incapable of using context clues to find a single hint as to why this game is problematic for many then it's way too late for you.
Remember when Dragon Age let you play a blood mage, and everyone was racist towards elves, templars were drug addicts who lobotomised mages they didn't trust, and dwarves were backstabbing politicians who sold out their own kin while their women got kidnapped by darkspawn to be graped and turned into broodmothers, and you could pour dragon blood into the ashes of Andraste and commit heresy, and you could help the werewolves kill all the elves, and the main ending was to become an hero in order to win? Remember when Dragon Age was hardcore and not a little bitch franchise for 4-year-olds? I do.
I've been replaying the series recently and the darker themes really got buried in inquisition. Mainly because of the player downtime between major plot points. But the tonal whiplash and change in how the game plays with Veilguard is mindboggling.
Dalish elves were also literal bio-terrorists and were willing to violently execute people for "trespassing" ie going for a walk in the woods.
That's the thing, Dragon Age never had sequels. This is not me trying to sound "edgy" or make a joke, it's literally the truth. Dragon Age don't have an identity, it's amusing. Also a wasted opportunity, even more so with Baldur's Gate 3 revitalizing the rpg genre and "medieval fantasy", Dragon Age 4 will be compared with BG3 and it will be ugly

I'm not even dissapointed for Dragon age failhard because my expectations where already almost zero. Dragon 2 sucked compared to 1. And dragon age 3 was better but combat sucked so hard because they game did not know if it wanted to be a tactical pauze/unpause game or an action game and did both. I have to say that last gameplay shown from dragon age 4 looked like they at least understand to make it more like a mass effect like action game then tactical instead of trying to do both at the same time so that is good.
But everything is dumbed down. less kills, companions. Companions are all diverse and feel boring even before i played the game. ''The veil jumper'' oh god shut up... And also you only have one helmet slot and one armor slot. Everything is just made dumber and dumber.. And why is everything purple and colorfull and shit? And also some darkspawn look cartoony.

I think a lot of people missed some of the small jokes in this video, like the griffon going "arf arf" or the tentacle monster shouting "GET OVER HERE" like Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.

@@Korgass For showcasing the new AC game, they played R&B inspired music at some point around a miniboss fight when playing as Yasuke- which they clearly knew what they were doing.
The fact that Ubisoft unironically decided to use that for the trailer never fails to amaze me, just hilarious.

ME2 was the last truly good game of theirs. DA2, ME3, Inquisition, Andromeda, Anthem all of this is a pure shit-fest.

They completely ditch Drew Karpyshyn and it feels in every single aspect of the story. They massacred almost everything. Look what they did to my boy Illusive Man. I hate this game from the bottom of my heart.
For me personally, even the Andromeda didn't do that much damage to the ME universe.
@@GreyLion86 A simple telling point: in Part 3, you can't even put away your weapons ( it was only put away on the ship). In the first two parts you could do it, you could find a npc, a quest, a merchant. In the third, you always run and shoot with a rifle.
It's a small thing, but it says a lot about the game.
@@71Arlekino Yeah, 3 did feel a lot more linear and “streamlined” compared to the first two games. I also didn’t like the fact that the “N7” missions were just recycled multiplayer maps. I still mostly enjoyed it, and the character moments were still done really well, but it was just missing a lot of the substance from the other games. Going with the original “dark energy” plot would’ve made it so much more interesting and in line with what ME2 was alluding to.

The first games I played were simple, colored pixels and ascii characters. I always found a way to relate to the stories and characters then, even with diminshed sound and visual representation. These characters are purely commercialized "design by committee" and as relatable as cereal box mascots.
I'll be playing FOSS games and older ones for the next few years rather than subscribing to the pAAAndering studios. Hope to see you all there where we can make jokes about Unscripted videos. "60 bucks, is enough!"

Well, I actually can get behind that from a gameplay perspective and a form of fanservice, as in everyone is a romance option. Seeing how many games have mods that lift sexual orientation restrictions, this is something that players actually want.

DAO was one of my first RPGs. Shitqusition was disgusting. Awful characters, MMO-like quests, bugs, huge pile of shit, placed on the lore... But I fear, that this game could be even worse...

Having been waiting eight years for this game, as a fan of the franchise.
I'm honestly excited, finally'going to Tevinter, get to continue the Solas plotline, characters look good and the combat looks the best of the series, DAO was great but it's combat was clunky even for crpg standars but since it was concived and released at a time were the gnre was dead people seems to cling hard to it making it sound better than what it actually was.
The bad things about Veilguard were the unwillingness of Bioware to say anything and sell smoke since 2018 and that AWFUL cinematic trailer before the gameplay reveal.
