- In this video I explain symptoms of a bad timing tensioner. The timing sysyem should be inspected when you hear rattling noise from the engine, low power, limp mode, misfire, poor acceleration, low compression...

Thanks for the great videos you post. No fluff videos. Thanks.
Spot on everything you need to know. Thanks!
This was very helpful and informative, thank you.
Very smart video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks mr ❤
good stuff
My 2007 dodge ram 1500 3.7l V6 it has a rattle when I take off & sometime when it’s idling down coming to a stop, it kinda sounds like thin metal rattling, I’m hoping it’s not my timing chain I don’t think it is because my truck runs great its super smooth at idle you can’t even feel it running & it’s got plenty of power it’s not sluggish at all, I’m trying to figure out what this rattle is, even when I remove the oil filter cap there no noise coming from inside the motor & there’s zero blow by, I’m just worries because my 2010 Silverado developed a lifter issue so I had to park it & buy this truck I use it for my auto glass business, I don’t wanna have to tear this motor down too & repair it I’m going to fix my Silverado soon so I can start driving it again & keep this dodge as a backup truck
Hey man did you find out where noise comes from? And does it rattle around 2-3rpms in gear while moving?. I have kinda same issue but weirdness is vvt solenoid works normally but if I remove its wire sound goes away. I also find out(from one of the Toyotas video) it was chain tension problem and chain goes loose and hits top cover
A mechanic changed my son's 2000 Honda accord water pump , afterwards it couldn't start (the engine wouldn't turn over), then he changed the pully tensioner (messed that up) , is there anyway to tell if the valves are messed up since the car can't start.??
Really the only way to physically check (as far as I know) would be to pull the head off the block and inspect the valves. Another way would be to verify that the timing is correct, in which case you might have to set it yourself or have someone than can, then do a compression test. Compression should read at a minimum of 135 psi per cylinder, but the range goes up to about 180 psi. Any less than 135 and you’ve got a problem with either the valves, a gasket, or piston rings. Considering it ran before your mechanic screwed it up, piston rings and possibly the gasket can be ruled out, but not forgotten. I’m not an ASE certified mechanic, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Hope this helps
I recorded this from the subaru impreza:

Do you think it's the tensioner failling/timing chain stretched? Thanks.
That sounds like rod knock; drain your oil and check for metal bits, as it sounds like the connecting rod snapped and is smacking against the cylinder wall.
@@avlvelo2688thanks - although the sound goes away at higher rpm or driving, what gives? I did an oil change. Besides oil being a bit darker and thicker, I am not seeing any particles. I also have two videos in the channel on cold start and warmed up sounds. The check engine codes are P000C, P0014, and P0021. 🙏
What if it's too tight?
Id like to know too
A timing chain that is too tight is more susceptible to being stretched or failing. Imagine putting a belt that is too small for you around your waist, you’d have to stretch it to make it fit, or suck in your waist to make it fit. Unfortunately with cars, you can’t move the crankshaft pulley closer to the camshafts, so the main fault point in this situation is the timing chain. If a timing chain that is too small was installed on your car, I highly doubt it’d run efficiently, if it even ran. As soon as you’d give it gas, the tensioner would try to make the chain more tense, which would then cause stretch or it might snap.
My vehicle will start up idle and then cut off after a minute or so😢

Can I send you a clip
Of my car on startup,
It sounds like a pulley,
But not sure if it’s a dual mass flywheel issue
