    I decided to make the first half free on UA-cam so you guys could at least learn the basics, but if you want to REALLY learn how these materials work, you can grab the rest of the tutorial here at a reduced price:

    to creat the "moss mask" just use another fill black mask and another generator "world space normals"
    light generator could also work if u turn ur light the right way.
    or a mix of the position generator with world normals

    Love this! I added a bit of height to one of the brush strokes layers and the edge detect layer and it makes it look even more like paint strokes (closer to oils than the gouache of Studio Ghibli, but I'm going for kinda of a hand painted Little Nightmares feel and the chunky paint looks GREAT!)
    Thanks for a great tutorial!

      As far as digital art programs go, it's pretty reasonable. I think it's like $20 a month following a free trial? So you could just wait until you know you have a lot of time to work on it and just use it for one month then cancel.

    Great video. Nice workflow for quick application of that art style.
    Small note: you keep mentioning the material being PBR as to how you can go back and change things later. It’s the fact it’s procedural that allows you to do this. Given your just using the Albedo in an unlit scene this isn’t actually a PBR material as that’s to do with how it’s being rendered.

    You seem to say "PBR" when you mean "non-destructive." Doesn't PBR just refer to the fact that the texture will use a specific set of maps to produce the material (i.e. color, normal map, roughness, metallic). PBR has to do with rendering and the maps that go into producing the material that will be rendered, but doesn't seem to imply "non-destructive" in any way.

    • @katanalevygames
      @katanalevygames 2 роки тому

      I was thinking the same thing. I think they mean procedural or non-destructive rather than PBR.

    • @whisperess

      Yes, PBR means "Physically Based Rendering" and has nothing to do with it being non-destructive

    I actually found the blur slope by accident when I was messing around with the trial version and trying to figure out why blur didn't properly cross UV seams. Didn't fix my problem, but I was able to make some painterly textures! Still not 100% sure what it has to do with slopes or blurring, but it's basically just a magic brush stroke generator. One thing I didn't figure out was how to make it behave consistently across objects of different scales, since it seems to be tied to UV coordinates, not world coordinates.
