invincible is probably my least favorite one on the album. i think it just speaks to the spectrum of tool fans. i really really love the dramatic chorus and heavy riffs that become less harmonic specifically to add dramatic effect to the tone of the song. i agree that pneuma is among the handful of very best songs tool has ever made. i suppose there are many many other fans who greatly appreciate that sort of compressed hard rhythm that invincible has, a lot more than i do. but don't get me wrong tool is the one band that i put first, they please me the most, the most often. no one does it better than them.
"Another perfect Tool song in a long line of perfect Tool songs" This is the perfect description. Tempest is amazing, but for me, Descending was the one off of this album that did it for me. I really hope you guys get into that one.
Such an incredible song! The first time I've listened to it, I thought it was great. But the weird thing is, as I kept listening to it over and over again, I started to love it more and more with every listen. It's such an intricate song and every time I listen to it, I pick up a little detail that I haven't noticed before. That's truly the beauty and the genius of TOOL.
The thing in THIS song specifically, is that is so expertly layered and crafted, its got no dissonance and its cohesive as a full piece with no breaks that intentionally bring you out of it as is very typical of other tool songs that want to disorient you, that's especially incredible when you consider this song is very long but it feels so short. Truly one of Tool's most exuberant showcases of talent and musicality
My whole first listen to the whole album this song stood out to me as the best on the album. Every listen after I was more and more convinced it is there best song. Now when I listen I believe its the best song of my generation. Tomorrow, I may just believe its the best rock song ever written. Look, all hyperbole aside. No song has ever reached me the way this song has. It is the perfect epitome of what I hear my soul crying out to me when I am lost in the drudgery of life. Wake up, remember. You're more than this. I think it's the lyrical direction of this album, Pneuma especially, that over-indulges us. That jam in the middle of the song is timeless and I've felt these vibrations before in any life I've ever lived. Tool is as close to advanced Egyptian technology as we've seen since they left us.

LOOOONG time Tool fan. I’ll be honest. The first time I heard the song, I was like “that’s good”...but I wasn’t blown away. The more I’ve listened to it, to more I’ve heard. The song is like an image zoomed way out. As you investigate it and zoom in you discover more things. Then more and more as you continue to explore. I absolutely love it now.
To be honest, I never listened to any of Tool's newest songs on their Fear Inoculum album so I was listening with you guys blindly as well. The first songs that I heard from Tool is Schism (which is the one that wolfkain was talking about the amazing bass riff) and Vicarious. What I felt when listening to this song was a sense of tranquility; a state of an ethereal-like mindset that helped me settle down. It gave that sense of peace whenever you hear this song. Even when the chorus picked up, I still was in that sudden trance. It was a beautiful song. Real reason being for not listening to the Fear Inoculum album was due to the media's response to the album. Some said that it's their best music ever and some said that it's complete trash. Gave me mixed thoughts about wanting to sit down and just listen to this album straight through. After hearing this song, I'm going to have at least an hour and half of my time to just sit down and listen to this album all the way through. Love your reaction to this song and can't wait to see more of your reactions ^^
Pneuma isn't my favorite song on the album but it's great. 7empest is some of Adam's best work ever if not his best. However, Invincible gets the nod from me for the best song on the album, but to be honest there isn't a bad song on the album. I can't argue with anyone saying any song on the album is their favorite.
Finally other people said it....I thought something was wrong with me because everyone keeps talking about Pneuma and Tempest but I'm just like well Invincible and Descending are better though lol.
This is how it works: 7empest was my favorite, then I started to really dig into Pneuma and it became my favorite. After that I started listening to Fear Innoculum and it too became my favorite, and then Descending and so on. I go through this with their discography constantly. It’s a continuous rotation. Their music is so applicable to the experiences I have on a day to day basis, and sometimes a seemingly less favored Tool song fits my present emotions more so than what was previously my favorite. That’s the power and versatility of Maynard’s writing, as well as the musicians’ ability to vividly guide the mood. This is also why I absolutely love prog music (not just prog rock.)
It's not the "sound" necessarily, it's the emotion you feel while listening. It definitely stands side by side with their best. Depending on your mood your favorites can be fluid.
Honestly I think this needs to be heard a few times. It gets better each time which is why people started considering this as one of the best ones made by them. It didn’t catch on to me as much as well the first time, but eventually this gained all my love more than anything I’ve heard from them so far. The bass lines, vocals, chorus, nuances, progressive timing of it all, and by far the most being the drumming eventually all adds up to make it a masterpiece. Worth their work and efforts for 13 years.
For me I think just the message and lyricism of Invincible makes it closer to my heart than anything else. But these all are fantastic songs, as all their discography. I don't like trying to do these comparisons of better or worse typically though. I hear too many people trying to ask whether this album is better than Lateralus or not. I think that's probably not a great way to think about it and evaluate music.
I feel you, Wolf. I too was under the impression that only fast music would blow me away. After I got introduced to Tool, everything changed. You didn't disappoint anyone. It's like you said, "Another perfect song in a long time of perfect songs." Great reaction nonetheless.
On a side note, i must say that... After 13 years without a new album (went to see them in 92”) they still manage to blow my mind several dozen times on every single album! That said, as a member of the “Tool Army”, so to speak... somehow I’ve managed to restrain myself and only listen to songs through reaction channels (yours being 1 of my favs) until I’ve heard it all and then I’ll got to a store and buy 2 copy’s... 1 will remain unwrapped and sealed because itssss... FUCKING INCREDIBLE! I hadn’t heard the first one you played...ummm..... Danny has ALWAYS been WAYYY better than good and EXTREMELY technical, but now (at 58) he’s decided to show off and honestly, I don’t even think the majority of long time TOOL fans could have ever even hoped for something so amazing! Look back in time at any decent to great band... 3 progressively better records, was normal. For a band to continue to get better 28 years after I saw em for the first time, it’s basically almost NEVER!
Wait until you hear Invincible and Descending. But for sure when you listen to this a few more times it’s like an addictive drug and you can’t get free again.
As a long time music listener of many genres , I love seeing younger folk ( or any folk for that matter ) really listening to the songs . So much going on and layers .
This one is on a trajectory to becoming my favorite Tool song. I like it more each time I hear it. And this is probably the best reaction I've seen to it. You guys really feel it!
It's worth watching the Danny Carey Drum Cam Live performance of this song to really appreciate it. Watching him allowed me to connect all the pieces of the song.
Well said Wolf. This is one of my favorite tool songs on this album, though not at first. Every time I listen to the album I seem to always listen to this song first. Thanks for the videos!
Pneuma has a quality about it that makes it sound so unique. It incorporates everything that makes a great tool song; Justin laying down an incredible bass line, Adam creating a spiritual atmosphere with his guitar playing and Danny's drum work is just the cherry on top that nobody else can hope to touch. You mentioned Schism when comparing this song to other tool tracks and I do agree up to a certain point where Schism feels like there there could have been more to the song. With Pnuema, there's no denying that this is a complete and perfect song that you would not want to change for a second. And then there's Maynard's vocals which takes the song to a whole other level. Everything comes together so well here. And the more you listen to it, the more you want to keep listening.
I think the reason a lot of people think it's their best is because something about the song feels so complete and perfect. This was the first song we heard on the new album (after the title track was released). And for a lot of us, hearing the opening was rather emotional. So this song has a lot of sentimental value among the fans for sure
If you guys want to experience more of Danny's virtuosity, watch the Triad drum cam video. The audio isn't great, but that does little to lessen the impact of what he does. It's nothing short of incredible. It will melt your mind as you watch and try to comprehend how the hell he does what he does. I've seen it multiple times and never tire of watching him.
I was in the same boat as you but now that I've listened to it a few more times I've picked up some pieces of brilliance in this song, like the little guitar progressions between bars are just perfect. I now think too that it is the best ever.
At 1 point all 4 of Danny’s limbs are playing 4 different grooves at the same time. Left foot/high hat right foot/bass drum left hand gravitating from triplets to single fills while the right hand is basically rolling what I believe is referred to as Swiss triplets. The man isn’t human. Plain and simple 😂
I just love that Carey hi-hat thing where he plays it loose then sort of "sucks" in the sound to a precise beat. Comes in the verse right before the snare hit
Honestly, I love Pneuma & 7empest. But for me, Descending is the best song on the album. It nearly brings me to tears every damn time I hear it. I vote listen to everything in between.
As with all Tool music, the songs need to be absorbed over time by listening to them again and again. Each listen takes you deeper into the music. My favorite bass line is probably in The Pot. Such a fantastic groove in that song. Whereas Parabol/Parabola is nothing short of a religious experience. Great reactions from both of you. 🙏🏻❤️
Guys, this is the best reaction video I've seen so far. Watching you realy get INTO the music and truly REACT to it, not just comment it, ... Thank you! Especailly to Halflifesystah, watching your immensely expressive face is just a delight.
Yes I agree....Tool songs is hard to say what is my favorite.....but the message in this song and just the way the music and lyrics moves speaks to my soul. Where I am spiritually at this moment....is why it resonates with me.Thats why it's my favorite song💜......sometimes you outgrow Tool's older stuff.....and just love where they went with this song.Thank you for doing this song.Much h love to you both......and you know the music gets better and better the more times you really listen😎
I was in attendance at that concert - the one with Danny doing the drum solo. It was on Halloween and the entire band dressed up as Led Zeppelin. So him with the stache = John Bonham
@@HalfLifeSistah ok just finished watching. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you! Up until now there was only one other reaction video to Pneuma that I loved this much. I won't mention who out of respect for you guys and your channel. However, I wanted to touch on Wolf's comments a bit. I can completely understand where he's coming from upon first listening to this song when there's been such a build up. The whole album is so textured and layered that it takes a few listens to gather even a hint of what's happening. This song has been reacted to by others who (like you) did not hear it first and many fell victim to getting lost in it and not catching everything that it has to offer. In fact, the only ones who really seemed to get the most out of it on the first listen did the other reaction video that I mentioned earlier. I think if Wolf gave that video a viewing he may be able to catch a lot of other stuff going on because it's being pointed out quite a bit. If you want to know what video, just lmk and I'll tell you. But in any case, I loved how you guys let yourselves go in this song. It's a great experience seeing someone hear it for the first time and I was not disappointed at all. Much love to you guys! Keep it up!
@@davidjohns2772 I believe I know the reaction you are referring to, its it Lost in Vegas? They appreciate Tool as much as this channel does. PS: Was Dolemite good? Mabye Ill watch that after this
For me, Invincible is THE best song of the album, hands down. Then comes Descending, Pneuma, 7empest, and Culling Voices. Invincible features some of Danny's best work ever, especially the second half or so of the song.. it's simply eargasmic!
I was undewhelmed when i first heard this album. The anticipation of the next generation of tool music made me feel like a child at christmas. The more i listen the more amazed i am. Its an album that is crafted to perfection and something i am happy to listen to over and over again.
Brother, I feel you. I’m a huge TOOL fan as well and the first time listening to every song on this album I had a similar reaction. It takes a bit to make sense of all the “happenings” of what’s going on. Your initial reaction of getting “lost” is a clear indicator you’re going to absolutely love and enjoy this song and the rest. Listen to your woman, she gets it 👍🏼
It gets better and better. And Invincible, Tempest and Descending are just as good. This is a gift from the universe care of Tool. They are the greatest.
I must say that each time I listen to this song is hits me or touches me or caresses me in a different way... and that's the beauty of it... it can punch you in the face (middle drum section ending) touch you (lyrics) or caress you.... guitar or bass lines... OR... you can apply those words to a totally different section at a totally different time. It's like the song continually morphs to meet YOU where YOU'RE at within that given moment. that's the only way I can explain it. Hope someone hears me. lol.
7empest, a jaw dropping sonic journey that feels to me both new and like a sort of tribute to everything that has come before. It's just so packed with content that it seems to bend time. 7empest!
I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, but you MUST watch the stunning video that is a close up on the kit multi-cam of Danny playing this. PLEASE! It fascinates me. The way he effortlessly hits the mind bogglingly complex polyrhythms is supernatural. It's one thing to hear it, it's another to see it. Utterly amazing. I just found you all today and I love you guys! I have 2 dozen of your videos on my Watch Later right now.
It's always great when people hear this for the first time. Such a great song.To be honest I wasn't sure that Pneuma was one of their best songs at first, then after a few listens I kept picking up stuff and it grabbed me. Now I'd put it in my top 5 for sure.
Descending is my favorite song off the new album, and is probably in my top 5 favorite Tool songs ever. But that song just holds a special place because of the meaning behind it and the way that they deliver that meaning. Not so much the 'technical performances' aspect of it.
Here's an honest reaction to you both and your channel from me, a new sub: I've watched a number of your videos over the last few days (I don't usually sub unless a channel's content grabs me and doesn't let go, and that can take a while). You two are honestly a breath of fresh air and a light in the dark. It's rare to see someone's soul shine bright while they are lost in the aural ecstasy of music, but there it is, proud and gleaming. Don't ever change. Peace, love and respect from Detroit!
this sounds like the culmination of puscifer combined with tool to a new creation of tool. the texturing of the whole album is ten times better than any other album they have put out
I'm an huge Tool fan but I agree also. My favorite song changes all the time. Usually the one that I'm listening is the best at that moment. 😆 Pneuma hits me hard because of the spiritual aspect of it.
Finally yes! I really hope that you listen to this song more and more because I remember it took me multiple listens to figure out how to really feel this baseline. Also, I saw them live in november, it was the greatest night of my life, and yes, Danny actually played every part of the drums in the middle section of this song...had to see it to believe it, and I still can’t believe it. Don’t try to pick a fav Tool song btw, it is impossible
Danny Carey... what to say about that genious drummer? He's a master at drums and percussion. He's been my inspiration playing drums for 20 years now. And TOOL is a amazing live experience. But what Danny plays on this album is just mind-blowing!
Yes great description of Tool. This album is best listened to thoroughly as it unfolds like a story. With each song. For me I can't pick just one favorite off the album. They seem to be all equally superior. As you have described. U will miss out on the journey they want to take you on. If u go straight to 7empest. Which is the ultimate finish to the album. Tool has once again made their mark. And stand strong as ever. I look forward to watching more reactions. Hope u take the longer route an listen to them all. It is well worth the ride. As I'm sure you already know.
Picking a best and/or favorite Tool song is like picking which of your children you love the most. Not possible. Also you can't skip Invincible, Descending, or Culling Voices. Just go in order.
Thank you for your honest and genuine reaction, as always!! There are absolutely some incredible songs on this album, 7empest and Invincible being two of them (for me). I actually favor them over Pneuma as they're a bit more aggressive, especially 7empest (musically and vocally), something I would have liked to have seen more of on this album. Invincible I love because it tends to slowly build in intensity only to conclude with some phenomenal drumming.
You should do a reaction to the drum cam video captured at a live concert. Three camera angles provide a bird's eye view of his talent and power. It is a MUST SEE for any music lover!
Totally agree with the just "another perfect Tool song, in a long line of perfect Tool songs". Also, like you said, you got lost in it. I just saw them live a bit ago, and this song was amazing live. Is it my favorite Tool song? No. But it is my favorite Tool song on this album? I think so.
Firstly, you're both super-cute! I agree with you both, it's another perfect Tool song. I'm wondering if people's reactions are so strong because the engineering and production have finally caught up with where they want to be. Thank you for being you.
Descending and Invincible must be reacted to. Skipping them is criminal! Spiral out!
Descending is Love. Descending if Life.

THE WHOLE ALBUM IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!
I feel you, Wolf. I too was under the impression that only fast music would blow me away. After I got introduced to Tool, everything changed. You didn't disappoint anyone. It's like you said, "Another perfect song in a long time of perfect songs." Great reaction nonetheless.
The entire album is a symphony or two playing simultaneously. Every piece fits and there is still an alternative way to listen to the album.
How you lifted him up there at the end when he was doubting himself...
Relationship goals 🙌
fantastic to watch this beautiful woman move to music, even better when its tool music. Cheers from oz.
Love that you put the Danny Carey solo at the beginning. Both of you always have the best, most unique reactions!! 👍
Wait until you hear Invincible and Descending. But for sure when you listen to this a few more times it’s like an addictive drug and you can’t get free again.
Listen in order.. Don't skip the whole album is great.
Love the input!!! Great reaction ! to me the best song on this album is descending utterly amazing!!
This song and this album is a grower! The more you listen, the more you fall in love. There's so much to digest that one listen isn't enough.
It's worth watching the Danny Carey Drum Cam Live performance of this song to really appreciate it. Watching him allowed me to connect all the pieces of the song.
I like invincible or descending more than Pneuma.
I don't
Descending is my favourite on the album. That one or 7empest.
I feel like these three songs are the trifecta of the album. Descending and Pneuma have more of a general appeal in terms of lyrical content.
eventually you won't. ;)
Danny is the best at "polyrhythms" is the word you're looking for.
100% agree. he is the grand master of polyrhythms.
Tomas Haake would disagree...
he is a polyrhythmist
Danny took lessons from Tomas Haake.
It's definitely my favorite song off the album. The more I've listened to it the more I love it.
The entire album is a masterpiece.
I dig your reactions, you've got one of the best reaction channels on UA-cam!
Ahmad K I was there too. Good show by them, but awful venue
The best song of 2019. Absolutely incredible.
the dance breakdown in the middle of the song makes it both unique and spectacular in the scheme of modern music.
And if you’re looking more for “heavier” “more powerful” and “intense”... I think 7empest is really gonna blow them socks right off into the hamper.
I literally paused Dolemite to come watch this video after getting a notification lol
Aaaawee! :-DD I hope you enjoy, sugah!
Funny. I just finished watching Dolomite about 30 mins ago.
Mabye Ill watch that after this
great review, great song. I love how entranced they both got on the 2nd half of the song.
This is from 2015 Monster mash in Tempe on Halloween..they all dressed up as Zeppelin and played No Quarter first song
Awesome reaction video! This entire album is a masterpiece. Great work.
If you wanna know more about that "box" he's using during the solo, Danny himself has dubbed it "Plan B Tool Box"...there's a few youtube vids of it
Brother, I feel you.
Danny Carey is the GOAT! I'd never seen that video that was shown at first but it gave me chills
Hope someone hears me. lol.
His 4-way independence is ridiculous it's like he has a brain for each limb, a true drum god.
7empest, a jaw dropping sonic journey that feels to me both new and like a sort of tribute to everything that has come before. It's just so packed with content that it seems to bend time. 7empest!
Danny Carey is fifty-freaking-eight years old!
His buttery smooth tempo changes are everything
Invincible on the same album is actually their best... In my opinion.
🤗✊🤘
Please react to Disposition-Reflection-Triad all together. Reflection is one of my favourites along with Pneuma. Also, react to Invincible!
Pneuma is a crazy tune!!! I love this whole album!
Some epic chin-drumming there Wolf, especially during the final drum build-up before that guitar drop :D
That whole fear inoculum album is soo great! Pneuma, 7empest, descending, invincible are all fantastic tracks. Tool at their best! ❤️🔥🤘🏼
The WHOLE album is amazong
Danny has help?
😂😆😁😂😆😁😂😆😁
The devil may be the god of the fiddle,
But he takes drum lessons from
Danny Carrey
this sounds like the culmination of puscifer combined with tool to a new creation of tool. the texturing of the whole album is ten times better than any other album they have put out
Almost 60 yrs old and still rolling!!!! RIP Neil Peart!!!!
The song is just gorgeous. Period. That’s it
I'm an huge Tool fan but I agree also. My favorite song changes all the time. Usually the one that I'm listening is the best at that moment. 😆
Pneuma hits me hard because of the spiritual aspect of it.
The reason its the best song is the odd time signature is hard to hear with Danny's amazing drumming and the insane bass line.
Picking a best and/or favorite Tool song is like picking which of your children you love the most. Not possible. Also you can't skip Invincible, Descending, or Culling Voices. Just go in order.
Sistah is ALWAYS feeling the music. Wish I could experience literally any music the way she does
Thank you for your honest and genuine reaction, as always!!
INVINCIBLE!!! Splitting hairs but I think it edges pneuma. It's about them as a band as well which makes it even better!
Thank you for being you.
instant sub. love your honest and immersive reactions
