I love the Turf Tracer. It is easy to work on, tough and reliable. I know them so well if something happens I pretty much know 85% of the time what the problem is, just by the sound of the machine. Over the past 7 years with the company I am at now, which we field 8 maintenance crews, I have purchased about 35 of these machines. Or about 5 new ones each year. I took one of the older models home after I retired it 3 years ago and I fixed it up and it is now my primary home-use lawn mower. - Aside from a 36" Toro that I bought two years ago in order to fit it inside a fence gate at an HOA I do, I do not have any other mowers that my crews use. I find it so much easier to have one make & model of primary mower for ordering parts (blades, air filters, tires, carberators, etc, etc). We do have a variety of both the 48", 52" and 60" models, but to make parts ordering even more easy - we have been phasing out the 52" machines for the past 3 years. I now only buy either 48" or 60" Exmark Turf Tracers.
Brian i will say….I have been in the field since i was 10 working for my family’s business. I moved away and continued to stay in the field. I am now branching out on my own after 13 years of doing landscaping and grass cutting. Just in the last 4 months i have gone from 2 customers to 28. Call it experience or just call it “doing what everyone does”. I have been listening to you podcasts and watching your videos for a while but today it hit me. I listened to about 6 or 7 of your podcasts all day today and man i feel like i am listening to a guy i have known my whole life lmfao. Brian thank you for all you do man. I know your videos are helping A LOT of people out and it’s greatly appreciated. Even with how long i’ve been in the field i still learn stuff from listening to you and kory ballard. Thanks again for all that you do brian! You are the man!
The Exmark Turf Tracer is the best walk behind hands down. I ran a 1996 Turf Tracer for a long time. I did get more compliments on that walk behind than my new 737 John Deere at that time. I am all team Exmark now.
I've been running exmark walkbehinds with a Wright one wheel velke since 1999. Turf Tracer 60 inch with a velke is my go machine. I have many mowers to pick from. The turf tracer has always been my favorite. I have been on one all day today. They are also great on steep hills. Suggestions for exmark to improve mower - larger engine options ( should go up to at least 30 hp and higher) - make a 72 inch model - make lifting the deck up and down easier.
My first commercial mower was a 2010 Turf Tracer. Bought brand new in 2010 because of the versatility for almost any condition I might come across. I still have it to this day. It's now my backup mower.
Had a TTHP for years. It's the absolute best mower for near ponds and lakes. Once we got rid of it and got a Toro Grandstand, the difference was painfully obvious!! If your mowing lots of slopes, that's where the walk behind really shines over z's and standons!
@@kevinbrooks1104 again it depends on what your using it for. Mowing around lakes and ponds the walk behind of superior. Good evening Brian's lawn maintenance. I've been in business for more than 30 years. My first walk behind lawn mower was the exmark turf tracer HP 48-in 17-horse Kawasaki. Purchased it in 2001.The Mower also had a proslide. Can not tell you how many hours are on the machine due to the hour meter shorting out when I got wet when I worked in the rain. The only thing I replaced was some pulleys for the mower and belts everything else was original The pumps the spindles all are original.Just finally replaced it with a 2021 exmark turf tracer. I believe 18.5 Kawasaki. Since I just saw your video with that pro sulky I want to replace the sulky I just purchased with the mower and get what you have I like staying behind the machine and not get thrown around and twisting and turning. I live in central New Hampshire just north of a lake called Winnipesaukee in Central New Hampshire.
Very nice mower. They have those tabs on the deck they added to help with pins so you don’t have to hold the deck up. I wish they would have what the toro proline has the single lever deck adjustment. Some of us cut different heights for different lawns.
Not nearly as big as you are but I started with a 21” push mower and just picked up a 2005 turf tracer and 5x8 trailer for 800 bones. That mower is a beast
I graduated from a toro 22" to am exmark 36" metro fixed deck to an exmark 36" turf tracer and only mow my own lawn with it. boy is it a treat. turns on a dime, holds hills, and the cut quality is phenomenal. i considering it the cadillac of walk behinds.
I really like my walk behind started with a push mower then snapper then 36 in scag. Went to a turf tracer and Now have a 60 lazer z x thanks to Brian and his recommendations and our local Xmark dealer. I love the versatility of a walk behind but it kills my knee.
I love my 60" turf tracer. You have to take off the reverse springs on the ECS controls near the pumps, but it turns on a dime even on the wet stuff. Rolls right underneath Bushes and trees and uses close to half the amount of gas as my Toro 31 hp kawi rider.
Nice mower. I used to run a belt 48'' Exmark metro with a 15hp kawi vtwin. Loved that mower. Had a beautiful cut, but had to be careful on rough or uneven lawns the fixed deck could scalp or dig in on the sides.
Good video Brian! I don’t understand why people don’t think that walk behinds are any good…. It’s called right tool for the right job. I run all Toros… Grandstands, Hydro walk behinds all with the Turbo force decks and the 30 turfmasters on every fleet. The cut quality on the hydro walk behinds are outstanding. Even better than the Gramdstands. Maybe because they have slowing ground speeds. What people don’t realize is that the blade tip speeds are all around the same so the cuts should all be equivalent. So remember the big machines are any better, they’re just bigger. It all depends on how big the lawn is…
I started with an old Dixon ztr,, got one season out of it. I bought a new Cub Cadet 50 inch Ultima this year and it's paid for its self a few times over in 8 weeks. Good to see you.
Of all the mowers I have used the 36 has the absolute best cut and lays the nicest lines, in my humble opinion the best mowers on the market 9000 best money spent
Did anyone else get their start with an Exmark Turf Tracer, or even still rock one?! Oh yeah, make sure you keep your chute blockers down, safety first! ;)
Did exmark do away with the 60' walkbehind for awhile? I had been looking for one awhile back and no one had it. And also is anyone rockin the new version of toro 60' walkbehind? I like the fact that you dont have to adjust the height with the pins but rather with a lever to adjust the height.
No I have never used one of these. I mostly bag and it is hard to beat a commercial ztr with a powered bagger. I started with a 2006 Tiger Cub 48in and still use it as my main machine. I did get a 21in toro commercial for small jobs.
Great video Brian, I have never owned a walk behind, never had a reason to own or buy one! But they look like a solid mower and they do have their place especially hills!
Used them for 20 yrs. Best walk behind ever. Switched to a Proline HDX w/ 22hp kawi this yr as the exmark dealer doesn't budge from list. I'll be switching back next yr. TT 5 stars. HDX 2 stars. Cons to HDX not that great on hills unless going side to side and stripes like 💩. Just wish the TT had a larger engine because I run them w/ the mulch kit. Pro tip, zip tie the handles on the TT to override the safety. I've yet to find a hill the TT can't do!
I have a 12 year old 52" turf tracer in my now trailer right now, just replaced the pull cord system today We also use the Novae Proslide xt instead of a wheely sulky
Use to use Tracer for hills until we upgraded to Cub Cadet Pro Z 760, 960 steering wheel model. Would never go back to a tracer……WAY to slow, and the Cub with AWS. (All Wheel Steering) handles all of our ponds, and steep slopes. Watching you mow with it was like a trip back in time (black & white). Lol lol. Thx Brian

Awesome, I traded my riding cub cadet for a 12 year old 48" bobcat classic and it works the crap out of me but it makes me money and just bought a mint 2018 36" bobcat for small yards and such. I love seeing different brands on here to give me an idea of what I might want to shoot for next. Love walk behinds but I think I might be going with a grandstand next do to limited availability in my area. Thanks so much for these videos.
We still run 2 of the 48" Turf Tracer Exmarks. I know you're running a lot of standers but I just can't get rid of the old turf tracers, they cut so well and are just reliable
We have a 2008 we bought used because it had a trac vac power bagger. Has currently 2500 hours powered by a 22hp predator engine with 254.8 hours on it, and is a 60 inch deck. It has a mulch kit on it as well and it goes out more than our stander.
This is my first yr and all I have is a 2011 52" turf tracer...... Because I watched your video when you talked about how your started with the Viking. If Brian can do it, I can do it!
Ive been watching you guys for a minute and im just now realizing I was never subscribed. im going to have to buy a tshirt soon cause I definitely been rocking with you guys.
I use a simplicity they've always bosted a free floating deck and a true hydrostatic transformation going back to the 30s the only difference is there not commercial there only residential mowers they make push and riders. Also come standard with the rollers behind the mower deck for stripping, I think Xmark charges extra for that option
LOOKING GOOD. I ROCK ALL BOBCAT ND I HAVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING SWITCHING BACK TO ALL WALK BEHIND MOWERS. LEAVES A BETTER QUALITY CUT THAN RIDERS. RIDERS ARE CONVIENANT FOR US AS LANDSCAPERS, BUT WALK BEHINDS ARE BETTER FOR THE TURF.
Brian, I just bought my first Turf Tracer and I am looking for the best sulky/velke. You know of any videos that compare/contrast the different options ? Can you offer any additional advice ? Thanks for the great content as always !
My favorite mower honestly, sucks when there's many turns to do throughout the day but worth it. These mowers are more dangerous if you haven't use them before, seen someone lose a finger and many other instances
Swivel wheel sulky definitely takes getting used to on how wide you swing but I do mostly 3 point turns just like stander or zturn. Mine goes in reverse as easy as forward (it's a Bradley swivel wheel sulky but same idea)
I was looking at a 36" Turf Tracer. I really like it, but a big guy like me, on a sulky, mowing (or mulching) the tall thick grass I have to mow. I would feel so much better if Exmark gave the buyer an option for a stronger engine. The 36" only has a FS481engine. I would have to have either a Kaw FS541 or better yet a FS600 (or a FX600) for me to get one.
the 14.5 horse is more than enough. the 18 hp kawasaki is the same motor and same displacement at 603cc, the only difference is the carb is different. remember that. go demo one and see what you think....
@@matt02468 Thanks for the info Matthew.. I don't know.. I noticed that Dan (on youtube) has a 36" Turf tracer with a FS481 engine.. And in some of his videos he takes it thru some taller grass and it really struggles.. I still think I would feel better with a FS or FX600.. Wright and Ferris have this on their 36" walk-behinds..
@@howlingwolf125y so one thing I can tell you is I walk. I only have 12K sqft and don't need a sulky as it's too cumbersome with my tighter yard that also has hills. Maybe thick grass towing someone like myself (not a small guy) and it would struggle, but I haven't really seen that. I will say that the smaller blades with less rotating mass have less energy than something like a 48, 52, or 60 deck considering the smaller amount of steel rotating underneath...
Looks like a great mower. However, a lot of people say the Velkies, Sulkies, etc. Mess up your knees for extended use in multiple seasons of mowing. I know there are some brands out now that have a suspension system which is supposed to solve the problem. Any thoughts on those? I believe they cost more than non-suspension and non-turning, but a person's knee health would be worth the cost if they really work.
I think you need to try the fw35 from Ferris now. From what I have seen they reign supreme in the walk behind market for now anyways. They are basically better than the TT in every except maybe cut quality.
Love the turf tracer! I got one with a 23 kawi and single wheel sulky. Can't beet it. Also have 2 vikings. Don't know why?? Exmark didn't put the ecs controlls on the new standers? They are so easy to use, even I can do it! Lol
I still use turf tracer with a pro slide xt. I do agree that the walk behind mower are pricey compared to a stand on or zero turn, but they hold a hill better with less turf damage in my opinion. But I I love my lazer z 60 x series as well
Stripping kit or no stripping kit what are your thoughts and does that come with that mower. I’m in my first year and I’m feeling pressure to have one on my mower. The dealer talked me out of it. Do you run the X blades with that ? Thanks love the channel
I notice little different for ride. Almost like stand on two wheels but that new ride if ride your back stretch might hurt or not. I guess . I am not interested my option. But I like ride. Up to u. Your postive. 👍🏼
Hey Brian quick question. I’m getting to the point where we are getting too many lawns for a 2 man crew. If I were to hire another 2 man crew should I pay them per hour or per job?
Damn this thing goes pretty quick lol. I want to start my own lawncare I’ve been really looking at walk behinds just for the price point vs zero turns. Give me some advice thanks 👍
$500 for a working ferris 48 inch HydroWalk dd. Bought it as a backup and liked it so much it became my daily. Bought in off season. 1500 bucks is typical price for a used wb in good condition.
I know this video is a bit old, but how does exmark do this "deal" with you? I'm sure that they expect you to talk good about it and use it in the video to showcase, and in return they make money off of it and you get a mower for a bit(less wear on yours). Do you have to give it back? How long do they give you? I'm interested to know the backstory. Awesome videos.
I mean, honestly, it's usually just a demo, and sometimes there's a fee to create sponsored content, but truthfully 99% of the videos and even brands we work with it's all for free. It's not about making a buck. We just want to create the videos as a resource. Hope that helps.
Brian quick question that I don’t ever think has been brought up. Maybe you already covered it. What do you do when the homeowners doesn’t pick up dog crap? Say a owner dog had a party haha and crap everywhere. Your running over your tires getting all over your equipment. Do you say anything to them?
Is there like a weight limit on who should stand on something? or about how heavy does one need to be, range wise like 175-225 for example. before the weight of operator begins to cause rutting with the Wight on the wheels of the stand? Normal average dry yard, I know there can be a lot of different variables in types of yards and the weight causing rutting maybe,

Exmark Metro 32" still have it! Respect to the walkbehinds 💯 Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!! #broinlawns
Brian, I just bought my first Turf Tracer and I am looking for the best sulky/velke. You know of any videos that compare/contrast the different options ? Can you offer any additional advice ? Thanks for the great content as always !
Hoping to get a used Viking here soon, it's a 2006. Thanks for the videos!
I need this, a 36" cut. My honda hrx is struggling in my zoysia. It's so thick and I'm not getting any younger.
when i was a kid and im still a kid there was a turf tracer mowing and at my aunties which we live next to now its toro
I still rock and 25 year old scag 52" hydro.
My favorite mower honestly, sucks when there's many turns to do throughout the day but worth it. These mowers are more dangerous if you haven't use them before, seen someone lose a finger and many other instances
I did have a 60 tracer, the only thing I wish it had a hydraulic deck adjustment, boy that deck is heavy to change the height
Stripes clean bro good stuff !
Swivel wheel sulky definitely takes getting used to on how wide you swing but I do mostly 3 point turns just like stander or zturn. Mine goes in reverse as easy as forward (it's a Bradley swivel wheel sulky but same idea)
Great video cool mower
What was the name of the sulky? I’m thinking about trying that one this season. Thanks
No more or less than a stander... and zero turns mess up your back...
I think you need to try the fw35 from Ferris now. From what I have seen they reign supreme in the walk behind market for now anyways. They are basically better than the TT in every except maybe cut quality.
After seeing you on that all I can think of is Ben Hur! Lol
Neighbors stripes were popin and now they have sulkey tracks on them.
Which one would you recommend for 1 acre properties or more. Walk behind or a zero turn
Anything an acre or larger I'd recommend a zero turn. Maybe the Exmark Radius or Toro Titan
Do you like the sulky?
Love the turf tracer! I got one with a 23 kawi and single wheel sulky. Can't beet it. Also have 2 vikings. Don't know why?? Exmark didn't put the ecs controlls on the new standers? They are so easy to use, even I can do it! Lol
I still use turf tracer with a pro slide xt. I do agree that the walk behind mower are pricey compared to a stand on or zero turn, but they hold a hill better with less turf damage in my opinion. But I I love my lazer z 60 x series as well
Get a Scag swzt you won’t regret it
@@benjamingreen9540 I owned one before. Like Scag but Exmark works very well for me and my small business
Great walk around! Unrelated, but, how was your 4th?
Stripping kit or no stripping kit what are your thoughts and does that come with that mower. I’m in my first year and I’m feeling pressure to have one on my mower. The dealer talked me out of it. Do you run the X blades with that ? Thanks love the channel
I would like to add a silky to my 36 Ferris walk behind mower. I am wondering if the front end will lift up on Hills or will it stay down?
Could be hard with a 36”, usually their too small of a mower to support the weight of a silky
I have a turf tracer just for hills
IT'S MY FAVORITE #1 WALK-BEHIND LAWN MOWER 2 + I KNOW HOW USE IT BECAUSE MY LAWN CARE CREW USES IT 2!!!👌👌👌👍👍👍😍😍😍😘😘😊😊😄😄😌😌😁😁😉😉😝😝💙💙😃😃😀😀☺☺💜💜💚💚❤❤💙💙
We only pay folks per hour.
If I stay in the apartment and I have a trailer with equipment in it where would be a good place to keep it at
That's all I run in Florida, but I have a mulch kit and the exmark Sulky
Had 2 of them
I personally dont think a mower like that would work efficiently on the lawns around here. Have a good day brain! Keep up the great work!
Honestly man those Turf Tracers work everywhere! It’s a great all purpose mower!
7 inches of rain in one week? Any way you can mail some rain this way? It has been really dry where I live.
Brian quick question that I don’t ever think has been brought up. Maybe you already covered it. What do you do when the homeowners doesn’t pick up dog crap? Say a owner dog had a party haha and crap everywhere. Your running over your tires getting all over your equipment. Do you say anything to them?
Hey buddy, we covered this in our fees video. We asses dog waste fees of $10 per visit if it’s not cleaned up.
Is there like a weight limit on who should stand on something? or about how heavy does one need to be, range wise like 175-225 for example. before the weight of operator begins to cause rutting with the Wight on the wheels of the stand? Normal average dry yard, I know there can be a lot of different variables in types of yards and the weight causing rutting maybe,
That’s a good question, I’m not sure!
Not in the Lawn business so this might be a dumb question, but why this over a stander type mower?
Ehh, better hill stability, cheaper (used), they last forever, more compact unit typically.
@@BriansLawnMaintenance I appreciate the reply! That makes sense
Any idea why mine goes backward on its own goes straight but when handles locked moves backward on flat surface
Oh gosh something is off with the tracking somewhere would be my guess. Take to your local dealer!
What kind headphones do you use?
