Looks good, but I cannot fathom why they made the connectors black which makes them look really out of place. Great review. Is there a part list at the end of the instructions? How many red ball joints, red axles, yellow axle/connectors and blue connectors are used? It also looks like a few yellow technic bricks visible in the cockpit? Why, LEGO, why?
Man I just really wish those red pegs weren't so glaringly out of place. Had they been dark gray or black, I think the set would have really benefited. Still getting it though lol
Just got my own set yesterday and can't wait to build it as a huge fan of the Dune novels since I was a little kid and also as a fan of the designs from the new movies. As a casual Lego fan who doesn't buy a lot of them but has built his share of the more technical stuff like the Apollo 11, I just don't get this Technic hate that seems to be out there. As far as I'm concerned, if it looks great and plays great I don't care if they had to use Technic in moderation to get to the endpoint. I actually love how creative the designers are with repurposing pieces from various lines to achieve a certain effect.
I purchased this as soon as I saw it, being a massive fan of Dune for many years (books before films). Can't wait to start building it, looks fantastic.
I agree… but the reason is obvious: for ease of build by LEGO newbies that are fans of Dune. Also it’s “LEGO Icons” and not “Creator Expert” now. Icons is aimed at casual buyers/builders. Look at all the basic and repetitive to build flowers in the Icons range!
This has to be displayed with the wings splayed out, it looks miles better. the combination of Technic and System work in this sets favour as it gives off that mechanical vibe while still being sleek like the vehicle in the film and with the studs still shown it's lego like while creating texture i like it and will most likely get this set just on a bit of a discount. HYPED for DUNE Pt2
I feel like the designers are blamed for some of the decisions corporate Lego makes, and so its just great to see them being fans in these personal interviews
Not a big Lego guy, but I impulse purchased this up today as a fan of the movie. Haven't built it yet though. Saving it for a day where I can sit down, maybe watch the movie while I build it. I didn't know anything about the set before purchasing, but hearing that it's heavily Technic based has me very excited. As an og Bionicle fan, I love me some Technic builds.
All the different colors are great! I love the orange, red, white, blue… I also like the parts where you can see them in the movies! Just like in any other Lego set :)
Nice review. It is a nice counterpoint to Tig’s review (which was also well done). Although I don’t think anyone’s bubble is burst because you told them they were holding it wrong. I am sure they are happy to find out how to hold it correctly just like you were when the creator corrected you.
The one thing stopping me buying this is I currently have no room to display it. Some of my other sets are going to have to go into storage. The only improvements I can see this needing are some of the visible technic pieces could have been black instead of the red or yellow they are. I know that means none standard parts being molded and increasing costs but it would have been worth it in my opinion
I think its mostly for clarity so people not experienced with technic can follow the instructions, build, and spot mistakes more easily. You can always swap them out for darker alternatives
It's an awesome set indeed and I'm in the middle of assembling it! However, I couldn't oversee that the name of the Baron in the instructions is written as Valdimir instead of Vladimir. 😅 Which actually doesn't have any influence onto the quality of the set.
I love Technic, so that's a huge plus for me. Brick builds just are not challenging nor surprising to me at all no matter how complex they get. And while I wouldn't call Technic challening either, it actually is surprising with far more creative and interesting interactions than placing bricks on top of and beside one another. At least imo.
I don't understand what's the matter if a set is Technic or System... I grew up with sets from the 90's and many of them had a mixture of Technic and System and it never bothered me. Even newer sets do it...
its kinda insane how badly i want this set and ive only been collecting star wars sets to fit my collection, but somehow i feel like this would still fit right in and still be interesting enough to stick out as something to talk about without getting lost, Bravo! Lego Designer(s)!

Man I just really wish those red pegs weren't so glaringly out of place. Had they been dark gray or black, I think the set would have really benefited. Still getting it though lol
The only issue I have for this set is red technic rods. I had to replace them all with black ones during my build
I like this set. But why so many (visible) blue and red pins, they could be black!
I agree… but the reason is obvious: for ease of build by LEGO newbies that are fans of Dune. Also it’s “LEGO Icons” and not “Creator Expert” now. Icons is aimed at casual buyers/builders. Look at all the basic and repetitive to build flowers in the Icons range!
looks good except for the unicorn vomit pieces in it... (random colours)
Just bought mine at the drop at midnight, let's go!!
I know that means none standard parts being molded and increasing costs but it would have been worth it in my opinion
dude as soon as i saw this on the lego website, i fell in love with it. I knew it was gonna be good
I dont collect sets, I usually just buy pieces, and I haven't even seen Dune, but I really want this set.
absolutely love this set ! Just incredible!
More Dune sets please!!
That’s where all the Star Wars waist cape budget went
Did you ask the designer why he chose to use such garish multi-colored technic connector pieces? It really detracts from the aesthetic of the build.
Exactly, the real questions
They sent him the model so I’m sure they “bought” a positive review out of him
I think its mostly for clarity so people not experienced with technic can follow the instructions, build, and spot mistakes more easily. You can always swap them out for darker alternatives
@@capycapy8920😂
It's exactly this. @@capycapy8920 it helped me find the right internal pieces having never done technic stuff before.
It's an awesome set indeed and I'm in the middle of assembling it!
However, I couldn't oversee that the name of the Baron in the instructions is written as Valdimir instead of Vladimir. 😅 Which actually doesn't have any influence onto the quality of the set.
Just finished it. Great experience making it and I can tell you for sure that the mechanism is great and I love every part of it
Fantastic interview. I love this designer. So candid
That thing is miles away from perfection, get yourself a new pair of eyes lmao
Dammit. I really wanted the set, now I really NEED the set
Willy wonka’s starship looks awesome.
Awesome set for an awesome movie
I built it yesterday. The flapping wings are harder to move than presented here. I'm pretty sure I built it correctly.
”this isn’t an ad for Lego, I just keep getting stuff for free from them as long as I keep giving them good reviews “
Looks incredible
"Yo Star Wars team, you're not using any cloth for kamas or capes right? Mind if I borrow yours? Yes all of it"
