The CMF series as a whole is my best set of 2024 easily. Only 2 of the figures are not something I would buy if I'd choose them, but they aren't that bad either. While the 10 other figures are just chef's kiss good.
Pealy bone to me is a 10/10 set. For the price it might be one of the best things I've seen in the last couple years. I have ZERO interest in the theme, but that thing is an awesome display piece
Notre Dame is top 3 for me personally. Such a beautiful set when finisht and I loved how the building experience was exactly like they build it in real life. And it’s was fairly cheap too.
The Top Ten '24 Lego... - The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr (incredible looking fantasy build with great details). - NASA Artemis Space Launch System - The Milky Way Galaxy (a beautiful pleasant surprise, with so many unusual elements and colors coming together to form an interesting relief sculpture). - Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter - Modular Space Station - Tuxedo Cat (sculpting and shaping just excellent). - The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron (all the Avengers in one nice battle playset). - Millennium Falcon (midi-scaled and a beautifully detailed desktop model. Top notch!). - Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit (great build orrery - science, learning, engineering all in one!). - Imperial Dropship vs. Rebel Scout Speeder Honorable Mentions... - War Machine Mech Armor - Micro Rocket Launchpad (just TOO cute!) - Batman vs. The Joker Gift Set (GREAT price and set of Batman models).
If you count building experience, display value and the number of unique pieces I think the value is there. Still expensive though, not exactly what I would call a set with great value. More like a great set, where value is one of its lesser qualities.
I agree with this sentiment, though we have to cut him some amount of slack for reducing the overall average set price from ludicrously expensive, to just very expensive. And he even included the Camera, which was the only value set on the list at just 20 bucks.
1. Barad-dur 2. Jaws 3. Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter 4. Jabba's Sail Barge 5. Dungeons and Dragons Red Dragons tale 6. Milano 7. Botanical Garden 8. Artemis Rocket Launch 9. Invisible Hand 10. The Burrow
1. Barad-dur 2. Notre Dame 3. The Endurance (assuming) 4. McLaren P1 (I do not care about cars, and I wanted it) 5. NASA Artemis 6. Millennium Falcon (Midi) 7. The Burrow 8. Mario & Yoshi 9. Classic Batmobile 10. Droideka (Hate the prequels, love the set)
Perfect list as usual, only one of these I have is the dune ornithopter, fantastic build, basically a technic set, more complex than expected, that would be my no.1.
That is the only thing holding me back, that it's a technic set most of all. I love Dune as a setting, read all the books multiple times and saw the movies, but this feels like a one-off thing that I wouldn't do anything with once I built it. Having a theme you can expand and collect over a longer period of time seems like a better investment and then the technic seems like it is something I don't enjoy building too.
My 2024 Top 10: 1. Barad-dûr 2. Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale 3. The Milky Way Galaxy 4. Medieval Town Square 5. Jaws 6. Atreides Royal Ornithopter 7. NASA Artemis Space Launch System 8. Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull 9. Forest Animals: Red Fox 10. Millennium Falcon (75375)
My respect goes out to you for putting 2 of my favorites on your list (which are unexpectedly absent from many here, different crowd) Those are the Medieval Town Square, the ONLY castle themed release this year if we discount a few CMF figures. And it was a banger too, a few minor downsides, but still a top set. Then the Red Fox, that one had 3 great modes you could build and I love all of them. Lots of great detail pieces included too.
I also really liked the Family Tree once I populated it. I thought the black and scooby doo colors were so weird. But with these little pictures everywhere it’s so sweet and really lets the pictures shine.
I like your top ten, the only ones I don’t necessarily agree with are the retro camera and the family tree. Instead of those I would include the endurance ship and one of the bdp sets.
While I got a lot of sets, and we still have a month to go, my top 10 are (in order I got the sets) - Shadow's Escape - Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter - Dragon Stone Shrine - Forest Animals: Red Fox - Wolf Mask Shadow Dojo - Bumblebee - Source Dragon of Motion - Wild Safari Animals - Lord of the Rings: Barad-dur (My top set) - Imperial Star Destroyer The two sets that could make it into my top 10 for me are The Milano and the Great Deku Tree (2-in-1)
I only purchase LEGO SW sets but these other sets from other themes are awesome, really liked a lot of the sets LEGO put out this year! The suitcase is sick… I’d buy one in a second.
Not sure if its top 10 worthy but I think the Creator 3 in 1 Giraffe set is worth an honourable mention. All 3 of the builds are very convincing and scale well together.
Now this is exactly my thought. It is about 100-150 dollars too expensive for my liking. Good looking set though. Maybe get the 50 dollar friends version and modify that, seems like a better option if you like modding existing sets.
(Mordor music sets in) YES I am a major Lord of the Rings fan but missed my chance with the OG sets and can't afford the new ones so im really happy seeing them back
There's always hope that they will revisit the theme with a small line of inexpensive sets. It is what everyone wants basically, they cannot keep on refusing to release what everyone wants, right?
The Cat, the cat was packed with interesting building techniques and had me convinced 2 or 3 times that they had it wrong, plus it was all quality building with no endless repetition. And it was just 90 smackers, cant go wrong!
From this list I have the camera retro 📷 really great for display. My favourite set from this year that I would love to have is the Notre Dame. My jaw dropped when I first saw it displayed in a Lego store
I was all about GWPs this year as I am running out of room for my sets. So the micro houses of the world and micro sets are great. My number one set I bought was the Friends Botanical Garden.
1 Notre Dame 2 Milky Way 3 Millennium Falcon (spaceship collection) 4 Jaws 5 C-3PO 6 Nightmare Before Christmas My other builds are all 2023 sets or earlier.
Especially the D&D CMF minifigures. This list doesn't really look at price or value for money either, so including the Red Dragon set too should have been a doozy.
Cole's Titan Dragon Mech (71821)! I'm normally not one to purchase Ninjago but if you like practical mechs and grew up with Exo-Force or Gunpla...for what you get with the price too. Amazing! 😎🤙
Yes, definitely Barad-dur is the best set which was made to rule them all like Rivendell before!🥇 And only 4 days left to grand finale of building geonosis! Can't wait! 😁 To be sure. What time will you upload the last episode?

My top sets from this year (so far, cause my bday and Xmas are still coming up). Also, some of these aren’t from 2024, but I got them this year. 1. Mario and Yoshi 2. NES 3. Tuxedo Cat 4. Milky Way Galaxy 5. Millennium Falcon (starship collection) 6. Kingfisher 7. Emperor’s Throne Room diorama. 8. Batman TAS Batmobile 9. Boarding the Tantive IV 10. Isabelle’s house visit
I bought AT-AT at full price a few months ago, and now it's on sale. I'm mildly pissed :( Anyway, a great list! I love my Ornithopter. Its incredible functionality will not see its peers anytime soon.
To be fair, if you can actually afford to buy the AT-AT at full price, you should be happy that you have so much disposable income. It sucks that you missed the sale, but if you were going to buy it anyway, there was a risk it was going to dissappear from the shelves without ever getting a discount. (causing you to have to spend even more on the aftermarket)
Seriously incredible suitcase. Definitely feels more adult than the ones at costco. The dungeons and Dragon's set and C.M.F's are my choice for set of the year.
glad to see a top 10 list thats not just limited to expensive 18+ sets, pretty good spread here overall. city really surprised me this year with how good its lineup was so i was happy to see a couple sets get a shoutout here. some other highlights from this year imo that didn't get mentioned were the dnd set and cmf, the fortnite battle bus, shadow the hedgehog bike, modular natural history museum (up for debate whether it counts as a 2024 set but whatever), and the friends bed and breakfast (another theme that continues to hit it out of the park and get little recognition).
Love some of the mentions here. The battle bus was a bit expensive, but has a ton of unique minifigures. Not bad for a new theme. Also, shouting out that friends set is good. Just like the friends Botanical garden, it might have minidolls and some kid-like elements, but it can be easily modded to fit a lego minifig scale city and you can probably get it at a discount quite easily.
Long time watcher (and subscribed), first time commenting. Love your review, and agree with LOTR as number 1. Suggestion…would love to see you do a ‘category’ based top 10…but to save time, maybe Top 5. Sub $100 $100-$200 Then $200+ Not sure how many sets you’ve built this year, but I’ve built maybe 100 sets. Star Wars, LOTR and cars are my thing for LEGO. I always look forward to your reviews before I make a purchase.
That's interesting about the eye. I bought the set when it released, so it's been on display for over 5 months and I haven't experienced this. I wonder if I will have to deal with this sometime down the road.
top 3 sets for me that i bought and built this year. "VTOL Heavy Cargo LT81" great value functions and looks. Ornithopter, a very solid mix of display and play, some of the best functions integrated in a systtem set UCS Tie Interceptor, is a bit biased since it is my favourite SW fighter. but i think it is a great model that i had much fun building. Barad-Dûr would pobably be up there, but im waiting for a good deal on it since it is so pricy
Barad Dur has such a presence. Rivendell has great figures, references, and techniques… but Barad Dur is the set I prefer looking at tbh. Like it just screams LOTR and is soooo iconic. Sauron’s eye, tower, and the ring are the most iconic parts of the franchise in terms of branding. But overall is just a fantastic set, and is a stunning display.
Hot take but i think rivendel's figs are hit and miss, the hobbits, gandalf, the humans and dwarves are great but the elves look bad to me they look more like human cosplaying as elves
what ... did you forget about Dungeons & Dragons Red Dragon's Tale and i love technic sets the LEGO Technic 42172 McLaren P1 is amazing ... you aren't a technic guy are you ... thanks for your reviews and videos keep up the good work
Endurance should win, dont have it yet so cant say for sure, but from everything I have seen I dont think I have ever wanted a set more. It will be the first time ever I will be buying a set on day one, I have already cleared out a spot for her in pride of place, Darth Vaders UCS tie fighter is heading for the garage to gather dust...been a long time coming, the last of the O.G holdouts finally gets the boot.
To me the special gems are the classic castle stuff coming out recently so I think the town square is the best of 24, but over all the lions knight castle is the best set ever made, if one were to have only one set for a family that would be complete fun for all ages and sexes. together they are some great times and value
I don't like most of the entries on this list. All the Starwars stuff, even Barad Dûr .. it is just very bad value and I personally don't like any of them. If they were value sets, I could have bought them on the basis of that, but they are the opposite of that, very overpriced. I'd rather fork over a bit extra for Rivendell, which is a superior set in every way. That said, I do love some of the entries here. The Jaws set, the Botanical garden, the Mobile Crane / Excavator and even the Dune Ornithopter, those are all great sets. Maybe not value sets at all, but certainly not as overpriced as the examples I mentioned and I think outside of the Excavator (which I own already), are all sets I might consider buying if I can get a good discount. Personally I would have at least: Medieval Town Square, the Red Fox 3in1 Creator animal and the Tuxedo Cat on my list, with the D&D CMF (as a whole) being my #1 release for this year. It's technically not a set, but it's doing a lot for Castle fans.
It's crazy how much better the Lotr sets are better than the normal sets 💀
This the first list I’ve seen that actually included Barad Dur💀 it’s literally the best, are the other UA-camrs blind as bats?!

1) Dune Ornithopter
2) Baradur
3) Jaws
so glad you gave the kingfisher some love, for the price its one of the best sets weve gotten, build is awesome and its very awesomely priced
Just bought Barad Dur today!
Enjoy! I prefer the finished build over Rivendell tbh
Congrats, loved it myself.
I finished building mine last week. So much fun to build. Enjoy! ✌️

The Cat, the cat was packed with interesting building techniques and had me convinced 2 or 3 times that they had it wrong, plus it was all quality building with no endless repetition. And it was just 90 smackers, cant go wrong!
90 smackeroos is a reasonable price for such a good building experience and great end result. Some of the pieces itself are quite unique too.
And every single one you got for free from lego
Barad dur is the best without any doubt, it was such a fun build
Only set I bought this year. And only set ive bought in many years was dune ornithopter and it was amazing. Loving it still

9:42 waht stand are you using thinking about buying it
you forgot A-frame cabin and Zelda
Me seeing that the dune pieces bend over time
I skip 1 minute anytime someone says “hey guys this is MY list so if you…”
No Cole's Titan mech? even as an honorable mention? damn
To me the special gems are the classic castle stuff coming out recently so I think the town square is the best of 24, but over all the lions knight castle is the best set ever made, if one were to have only one set for a family that would be complete fun for all ages and sexes. together they are some great times and value
I think bag end will be better if its from the hobbit and includes all the dwarves, but well see 🤞
Barad dur was the only set i bought this year
Space shuttle!
Hi David, how long are you out to build your dream house? Any updates :D
No DND set??????
My son says the Clone Troopers set is the number #1 set. Haha.
Personally I thought the clone battle pack isn’t even in the top 10. The builds are so weak. The mini figs are nice though
My personal top 4 would be:
4. The Kingfisher
3. Jaws set
2. Ornithopter
1. The Milano (this is a really a beautiful set + I’m a huge marvel fan)
I just picked up the Milano today I'm excited to build it!
@ Awesome! Ill be picking it soon. Hopefully this week.
LFG. LOTR.!
"Boo-ra Dooer"? It's more like "BAHR-ahd Dure" 😉
LOL, that takes some gut to call a $460 set you got from Lego for free a "great value". Which is why I cannot take any of your reviews seriously.
eh..... Barad Dur is WAY worse than rivendell, i don't think it's very close.
