The fact is, Jang is a legend. Modern Lego UA-cam is full of cringe and LAN. Jang is one of the few people left who are willing to point out the bad and give their honest thoughts while also not just hating on the entire company.
I agree! Its great to have some level-headedness in the Lego community
Jang is the rare UA-camr who leaves his ego out of it.
True
LAN is the worst thing to happen.
What's LAN?
Swapping out the red parts MASSIVELY improves the look of the wing joint area
the stress I felt watching you bend the wing was greater than anything from any horror film I've ever watched
Changing the coloured pieces to black made a HUGE difference!
It’s not reviewed until Jang does it.
Superior review Jang!
I have a trusted reviewer for every kind of product i consume and you're the reviewer i trust most for lego, keep it up man
Same here! Jang is without doubt the best Lego reviewer in my opinion.
Modified my model by swapping all the red, yellow, orange, and blue parts to black/ DBG, and covered up some technic holes with tiles and it looks so good, very happy with it
The set is so big, its shadow breaks the immersion of the classic Jangbricks void.
Yes, the set is nice but I'd like to take a moment to appreciate how Jang still does his reviews. I really like the slow-paced walkaround where I can actually admire all the details. This has been my go-to review channel for years
Seriously one of the best modern sets ever. The engineering is just so perfect and awesome for this toy.
This set is a genuinely incredible feat of engineering! It's my favorite set of the year so far, and one of my favorites of the last few years too.
I'm a huge Dune fan and when I saw this I was awestruck. I haven't bought a large lego set in a while and I seriously debated getting this, but other things got in the way. But now watching your review I'm wondering if I should try and stretch the budget... Great review
Holy cow. Im usually not a big hater of the colored technic parts but wow, the color corrected version looks leagues better. Ill actually have to do that when I pick one up.
The engineering behind this set is incredible.
The blades snapping out looks like it feels so satisfying.
really need to find the funds for this.
"adult" sets usually aren't about the functions, but this one really needed them to properly represent the vehicle.
One thing I didn't expect for this set is how well stocked it is. I have only just been able to get the Ghost and Phantom where I live, so I expected this to be as hard to get - but no. I'm giving props to Lego for how readily available this is.
This is why I always go to Jang for Lego news and reviews, he’s nuanced and willing to gush when something merits it and is also willing berate something when it is also merited. Keep it up Jang! 👏👏👏
I've watched a number of other reviews of this set but still was waiting to see yours. Love your honest and through reviews. Please keep up the great content.
Now we can only hope they make a Harkonnen variant!!
That hypercorrection made me wince but I appreciate you showing that off. All eight of the blades on mine were severely bent out of the box so I will look into trying to bend them back myself.
My dad just showed me this today. He pre ordered it back in November and was extremely exited to get this. I am not familiar with Dune but this thing looks amazing! It feels amazing! I wish i could have seen the build experience because it looks really technic heavy. The only downside is that the wings themself are a bit bent to one side which results in some asymmetry.
Overall this is an amazing set and getting it cheaper before it's release was an excellent grab from my dad.
Your color mod makes it look amazing.
Absolutely incredible engineering and technique. Man the things lego can do with the right ideas and work is beautiful.
First review of this set I've seen that shows the Baron minifig from the side. Much appreciated!
Jang is a light in the darkness of this site
Thanks for demostrating bending the blades. I was thinking how to approach straightening mine and started considering squeezing them between two heavy books, but seeing them bent so much just by hand, I'l probably try doing this first (I tried already, but didn't bent them nearly as much as you did, but since it is safe...).
Love that I found your channel again, still have memories of watching all your vids 13-14 years ago
Wasn't sure I'd get this set but after seeing Part 2 I feel like reading the book and indulging in a (yet another) Lego set haha
I appreciate what you do for the LEGO community. This is an excellent review of an excellent LEGO set. I haven't seen the movies, but I want to have this set on my shelves!
so glad i got to see the end of the build! keep up the great work!
I absolutely love this set, just one of the best sets I’ve ever built. One of those sets where you just ask yourself how on earth the designer made this
Showed up for the review because this set looks amazing, and was delighted to see that Gundam at the end! I did a custom paint job on that exact model but went with a very dark red with black, and a few gold accents. Few pops of baby blue as a major contrast. It's such a great model. Looks sick in that tan color.
I got this - such an amazing build experience. I was giggling with glee as things came together. Agree about the coloured pins, etc. Worth the money (£150) I think. Great review!
Thank you for another great and detailed review Jang! I followed your example and changed the colored parts. The set transformed! I wish we had more interior though. The functions are worth it though in my opinion. The Lady Jessica figure also came with the same issue (not aligned dress lines).
Thanks for the review! I replaced all red, yellow, blue and lime parts with grey and black ones - and it looks soo much better!
Jang, this color swap is genius! Looks more accurate! Thx! 💕
Was waiting for a nice simple review of this set, thanks! All the others on my feed looked overproduced.
Great review as always. A tip for the blades sagging over time, swap out the left ones over to the right side and visa versa. Gravity will do its thing and down the road, reverse them again each time you dust it off.
have this set sitting around and I can't wait to build it when I have the time
Great review as always Jang. I personally am really looking forward to getting my hands on this at some point soon
That was so much larger than I thought it would be. Those blades are cool too.
I have this set. It has its flaws but overall it's a very good set with impressive features and neat figures.
Nice job desaturating the model, Jang! The difference was genuinely surprising.
Wow I am really impressed with plastic used to make blades. Very good design decision
I got this one soon after it launched. It was probably the hardest set I've built since 2020, but it was worth it. Even managed to get the set for $110
Another great video mate, if I manage to get some sets this year this one will be one of them. Cheers
Been waiting for this. Fantastic review, thank you Jang. Despite the many many reviews out there, I still appreciate your thoughts.
I was really eager to hear your thoughts on this set. I thought it was a joy to build, challenging and using techniques I'd never seen before. As a show-piece, it's just phenomenal. And there's a pretty marked lack of Dune toys/merch so getting an ornithopter model this huge and that has functioning parts is just a dream come true for this Dune fan. And holy crap, the difference between the colored technic pins and the gray/black ones is staggering. I don't think I want to reassemble mine from scratch to do that, but I agree that those alternate parts should have been included. Thanks for another great consumer-focused review Jang!
Thank you for showing us a version without the red pins etc. Looks much more appropriate.
After seeing this model with the desaturated colours I'm gonna get it for sure and order some extra parts! This set is a feat of engineering and a great representation of (imo) one of the coolest aircraft in recent fiction.
Could definitely see those new rotor (wing?) pieces being used for some massive technic helicopter builds
Incredible!! Great review!!! Its so interesting how it works. Most people will argue that is a technic set. But i think it is the set of the year, so far.
Thanks Jang, I was waiting for your review before I get this one!
I was so excited to see this review come out. I have seen every other UA-camr’s review of this set and none of them compare to the quality of yours.
That Venator in the background of your studio is still beautiful.
Jang, you’re the best. I really appreciate your positivity while still being objective. Aside: the beard looks nice and I hope you and yours are well.
What stand do you use for your tantive IV in the background? It looks gorgeous
Nice 😺💙🐾 One of the most satisfying builds in relation to functionality and swooshability. Even with aesthetics being secondary to that functionality. It truly is a triumph in Technic engineering! Cheers 🍻
Great review and thanks so much for showing the model with desaturated pieces. Did you keep track of the number of and which pieces you swapped? Like you say, it’d be fun to have those ordered along with or before picking up the set.
Looks fantastic enjoyed your build on twich awesome review jang 👍
Such a cool set. Never would have thought we would see the colab.
I fully agree on replacing all the exposed blue, red and yellow technic parts. Had already gone through my own collection to collect what was needed to recolor it all into black well before getting the set.
Additionally, tried laying the wing elements under something heavy for some time on both sides to straighten them out.
What a set! I had no idea it could do all of them tricks, such an engineering marvel. The price I also feel as you said not too far off the reasonable range, but it would definitely be miles better if they had made the colorful pins and axles in black/gray, it is an ICONS set in the end, we can really ask for it.
This is expensive for sure, so value is kinda iffy, but this calls to me though. It's very interesting and striking looking, has fantastic complex functions and even though I don't care for them, a big near complete selection of figures. Hearing it's another crazy Mike Psiaki creation, I knew we were in for a treat and this did not disappoint.
Regarding the small 2-long red axles and red ball-ended pins, they don't normally bother me but it does greatly bother me here, chiefly due to the fact that black versions of the same 2-long axles are also used in this set as well. In fact, there's more of the 2-long axles in black than in red, 48 black vs 31 red, so I don't see why it didn't go the whole way and use just the black 2-long axles throughout the model. I do agree that in red, it helps to find the right pieces much quicker and easier, but it's very bizarre that so much effort went into making the wing parts of this as consistently coloured as possible, but then gets small bits of contrasting colours right near it that spoils that effort.
I'm also aware that black versions of the ball-ended pins are still going, which this would need 20 of to swap in. And that orange part you pointed out already exists in light grey, so that's another part to swap, 4 of.
I'm gonna go for this despite having not read or seen the Dune related media, obviously waiting for a discount as this is sold virtually everywhere; really, the only thing I don't like is questionable choices of colours that's used for some of the pieces.
thanks for the detailed review. the mechanisms look amazing!
And great review as always! Keep them coming.
I think this looks amazing, and the different functions are super intriguing. I want to get my hands on it to build it and see how all those mechanisms come together (coming from someone who had his mind blown from the S-coil/wing mechanism on the most recent X-Wing playset).
Fantastic and very detailed review, as always 👍
built this for myself on my birthday, great set with ingenious use of space for mechanical elements.
i can see why lego display purists frown upon the abundant technic. but i think the end result is worth it, one of the most fun sets to play with the functions of.
Ahhh. Been waiting for this one. Love the book and new movie. May need to pick it up when I'm ready to drop some money on it
This set is a technical marvel. Whoever designed it should be proud of their work. I have one on the way and im looking forward to seeing how it goes together
That printed tile piece will be coveted among Elite:Dangerous players.
Excellent review as always. I'm looking forward to grabbing this set.
Also, may please you provide the list of all the desaturated parts and their amounts?
It is honestly INCREDIBLE how those wings can swap forward and back...I need to read the instructions to try and figure it out
Just finished building mine I did swap out most of the funky colours for an additional £25 (2 separate bricklink orders wit the black versions of the blue axile pin being the most expensive at £1.90 each that coloured part only existed in set between 2002 and 2006) and it looks so good, surprisengly I can display it with wings out something that my local lego store couldn't do due to having 2 valentines displays . I saw a bunch of reviews saying how it is hard to build but I find gearbox builds harder to put together, if you are unfamilar with building technic then this will be very hard to build
WE FINALLY HAVE A TIMOTHEE CHALAMET LEGO FIGURE WOOOOOOOOOO
Amazing. Thank you Jang for your review.
Hello Jang. Thank you for a great review (as always). May I ask for a partlist over the parts you choose to replace?
I honestly never expected Lego to make a set from Dune so this is incredible. It's my favorite book of all time and I enjoyed the movie a lot but its full of very adult themes and a lot of violence, religious concepts, etc. I hope they continue to do the one-of adult sets for non-standard properties that wouldn't normally get a whole theme. Especially things outside their normal "rules". Love that they included most of the main cast in one set. The engineering on the wings alone is very impressive. I would have been happy with a completely static model but this is crazy how complex it is while working pretty flawlessly.
Great Video! Cant wait to get my hands on one.
I didn’t expect the desaturated technic parts to make such a difference. Looks much better without all those bright colors!
I hope they design the Emperor Ship, too. It looks incredibly cool in Dune 2 when entering and hovering at Arrakis. It would be so cool that they include a reflective material for the surface as well.
Definitely think they should make the technic parts in matching colors so they don't stick out so much. They can just show a scaled image on the instructions page to help distinguish size
That was a really impressive bend recovery by the wing!
Great review!
The color-replaced parts make a big difference visually.
Do you have a part list for those?
This set is intesting... at first glance it looks like an Matel/Hasbro model. Than if you look closer it looks like a Technick set. And after that a minifigure compatible, awsome Lego model. The designers should get a rase or at least an applepie becouse this set is just briliant!!! Thank you Jang for this great video and your ever lasting honesty. 😁👍
A beauty of technic and system working together in harmony.
Great review as usual!
The papery style of cape is a must if there is to be any form of decoration on it
I just watched the first film to prepare for the second. This was the only ship I liked, and I thought maybe your review could help inform me if it was a wise purchase.
I guess it's time to start saving 🤷.
I love you Jang, keep up the good work.
I lucked out and preordered this from target at their early $149.99 price. It’s an awesome set and so big
Amazing set and great review
It's like an official MOC! Thanks for the review.
Appreciate the review. Now that I have seen the thopter built with alternate grey/black parts, that's the way I want it, too xD If you actually have a parts list for that I would give you a hug.
Thank you for saying that about the technic aspect of this build, I don't understand those complaints
Good review, just confirms my thoughts on buying it. I'll certainly swap out those red pieces though.
I was really impressed when he pulled the wings in. I was not expecting that to be a feature after he showed them fluttering. That is pretty impressive.
My wife got me this for my birthday - Just finished bag 2 which includes the ramp and landing gear deployment system - gotta say it's some amazingly smart engineering, and you are totally right, fascinating to build. I'm a huge fan of Frank Herbert's Dune series (not so much once his son took over after he died) - and the film was amazing. Agree the figures are mostly pretty good, but Paul looks more like Kyle MacLachlan's version of Paul to me, rather than Timothée Chalamet's portrayal. Like you though, not in it for the figures - most of them end up in a storage box other than the few that fit in the models - the Baron will definitely get a spot on the shelf though.
The nice thing about the wings are that they're symmetrical - if they start to sag over time, just swap the left and right blades so that gravity pulls them the other way
Hi Jang! Love ur videos
