Thanks to everyone who requested this one. I've had a lot of questions regarding which battery tested I used. It's a Foxwell BT-705, which I purchased. Here's the link. Thanks again, Todd amzn.to/34lBPVF
Have you thought of testing flexible solar panels.
Hi, would you test the ability of car battery to withstand short trips and deep discharging? If you can also add Varta and Bosch to the test.
Thanks
Bought a everstart Walmart batt 1.5 yrs ago because the last one lasted an incredible 7.5 yrs! However, after recieving 3 duds in a row, being disabled, i went to Autozone & got a good one this time.
How about a review of the effectiveness of car battery chargers that have a "repair mode" to help repair abused damaged batteries?

In my humble opinion this is one of the best channels on youtube
Thank you!
Agree 100% - when I can’t sleep at night I’m watching Project Farm - lol lol !!! I’ve also had requests to see the videos in my shop’s engine rebuild room
I agree that it's a good source for info. On the subject of batteries, though, the issue most important to me is how long they last. A few decades ago (yes, I'm that old) I didn't have to worry so much about coming back from a 2 week vacation to a dead battery. The last three vacations, I did. Why? It seems we now have to have a compact Li-ion or supercap jump starter. In addition, it seems the 3 year warranty is extremely precise, with batteries turning to crap right on the day, or thereabouts.
@@ProjectFarm thank you Project Farm!!!

One of your best videos. I replaced my wife's battery with an Everstart recently and it was just reassuring to know that my man PF, gave it the thumbs up.
Thanks!
I just bought the same battery for my wife’s car. Also, I’ve had an Everestart in my tractor for 8+(possibly 10, just can’t remember what year I bought it) years and it still fires up every time.
Man, I remember when a premium 3 year replacement battery was about $50-60 depending on the size. It's insane that now most premium batteries are wayyy over $100 and a good portion of them from AutoZone/Advance Auto Parts are over $200. That's not including the AGM batteries. They are $300 or more now...
Auto zone batteries and the rest are Hype. Even Interstate you Gotta watch who your buying it from. With the current administration taking a hatchet to the USA, I found great reliability for the Walmart Ever start battery and just replace it with a free one every 6-8 months because that's about how long they last. If they burn a cell, they replace free for 1 yr of purchase .Cars are junk too these newer ones. CVT transmission's, etc... Just buy a 2016 Toyota and stay away from kia and their inferior metal they use on their crankshaft. If you see green on the posts, you can sand them down and seal them with metal bond or Jb weld at the post seal where the connect and the gasses don't release and the batteries will last forever.
If you notice, the everstart has a 5yr warranty. The current pics on Walmart show them with a 3yr warranty! Granted those are pics, not the actual product. But I'm assuming they're up to date since the warranty period dropped... Just like everything else rising/decreasing to the benefit of companies.
@@meme5887The 3 year warranty is the free replacement period. No battery, with the exception of the platinum AGM batteries, has a free replacement period longer than 3 years. Depending on what quality level EverStart battery you are buying that 5 year warranty was for anywhere from 4 to 2 years of pro-rated warranty. Not a free replacement period.
Bidenomics
stay away from auto zone batteries.

Lol where did u live a dessert island!? This is all common info if u graduated high school !
@@kevinerhartjr.273 Seriously? Even if you know all of the listed ratings on all commercially available batteries, which you don't, there's almost a guarantee that the listed ratings on most batteries aren't correct in any given situation. Also, I went to high school and I know a lot of people that went to high school. I've never heard of an automotive battery class in high school, not even in shop class so I know you didn't learn any of this in school.
@@twistedpixel2558 i dont know what cave u and ur classmates went to but i learned about batteries ,electricity , and magnets is 6th grade!
@@kevinerhartjr.273 Ya, we all did. The concept of electricity. This guy is testing specific batteries and the claims that their manufacturers make about the specifications of them. That's what the op was talking about. You're kinda slow, huh?
When did car battles get so expensive! Thank you, it’s not just me.
Thanks for watching.
Batteries and tires. I remember when I bought my Ranger in 2004 I got BF Goodrich's for $89 each now the same model tire is $134 from the same place.
Car batteries increased in price after the closure of most lead mines.
if you gonna battle using you car, is gonna be expensive!
All the different brand names are bullshit. There are only a handful of lead acid battery manufacturers left in North America and one manufacturer might make same battery for 4 or 5 different brands. Only thing different is sticker on it.
Very well thought out testing procedures, explanations and final graphical break down.
I spent some of my years working in a materials testing lab. Our focus was ASTM standards for testing of materials. Materials for construction which included everything...EVERY MATERIAL down to its component level, even to the chemistry from which it was composed.
ASTM testing protocols are a crazy maze of interdependant prerequisites. Many times mind boggling.
So, I think you did a very fair, if not excellent job of simulating an ASTM test protocol.

I was stranded out of town during a family emergency when I bought an Everstart at Walmart, expecting it to last until I could get a better battery. 6 years later it is still going strong.
Time to load test your battery,( this is cheap & will tell you if its time to replace it).. I used to be in the repair business & it's a false savings after a battery with low voltage shortens or even destroys your alternator or starter . It's much the same as putting an electric lawn mower at the end of a long skinny underrated extension cord .The motor struggles under low voltage & gets too hot..Ditto with the car starter, & the alternator will charge all the time trying to bring the voltage up to where sensitive computer controls can function properly.
My Everstart lasted 7yrs, It wasn't completely dead but I could tell it was getting weak. Obviously bought another one. The cheapest too no brainer.
Stranded? Oh wait... Automatic...
Impressive!
Walmart's batteries are made by Johnson Controls. They're good. Exide and JC are the biggest manufacturers and they pretty much make up the entire market for lead-acid.
I bought my Everstart 3 weeks ago before this video. I’m glad that I made a wise decision
Ive had mixed reviews with neverstart batteries
Used only EverStart for the past 20+ years, only 1 issue ever, and they replaced it for me no questions asked. Other than that, never another issue.
Thank you for the feedback
Been running ever starts in Canada for over 3 years, haven't had a problem even in sub -30 celsius temperatures on diesels and v8s
My first EverStart Maxx lasted 8 years in NorCal. The second is still going strong at 5 years in Kansas.

Thank you for making this video! I recently got a Toyota brand battery for my Civic (Johnson Controls also makes Toyota brand batteries). It cost the same as the top-line EverStart Platinum battery at Walmart and offered a superior warranty, 3 years free replacement, 4 additional years prorated.
At one time, a lot of Toyotas came with AC Delco maintenance-free batteries, which tended to last many years.

I got 2 very long scam advertisements, one trying to sell a book to revive any kind of dead battery and another for an overpriced bluetooth obd2 reader. Found your comment and wrote this on my phone before they were over
@@furd8883 It's a tax expense. It would also be pretty crappy to return batteries that have been put through a test like this.
@@MGXsport I don't think so. I don't think he abused these batteries at all. A new customer of these batteries would do just great. All the same, it wouldn't feel right, but I think the batteries would be fine. He never started engines with them. Now that would be harsh. Also, deep drains damage batteries. He never did that.
Did you know that there is a small break in for batteries before they fully perform? If he stressed them more they'd show up with even MORE cold cranking amps on their tests. At least that's how my preferred battery brands behave. I don't know who makes batteries for GM for example, but after pushing them on a car with more issues than just the bad battery they have had, I've seen them turn out with an extra 200 cold cranking AMPS after 2 weeks of use from a customer.

Sorry PF, the real battery testing is a real world atmosphere. Interstate batteries are very good in real world conditions. Walmart batteries are not worth it. Napa gold went bad for me in 2 years. You need to remember that dust on the batteries will drain it. Keep your batteries clean. I actually put 1” styrofoam underneath my 4 AGM batteries in my Peterbilt and now up to 4 years on them. Plus they power my refrigerator. Vibration can be a killer on batteries and the heat is harder on them than the cold for longevity. I run Duracell on my wheel horse rider and my Allis Chalmers CA tractor with very good results so far.
This morning the wífe called me just after she left for work, told me she thinks her car battery seems like it's getting weak. which battery did you buy and why ?
@@virtuosowins I did go with the Walmart Everstart for the first time. I usually would try to source an Interstate but I did the Walmart this time for 2 reasons. 1. For the price and results of this videos test and the fact that everyone has a Walmart in there back yard. 2. Because the batteries I feel get sold often at Walmart I think they get a continuous fresh supply. Batteries that sit and don't sell will age and you won't get the full life span of cells inside.

did you ever kill the battery?
I had an everstart last 3 days on me and the replacement lasted about a month. It actually saddens me to find out half the batteries on here are all made in the same factory. I had a die hard gold last 15 years never went dead for those 10 years until one cold winter.
My energizer lasted for 10yrs. 07/07 till 12/17 Toyota matrix. Best battery I have ever had.
just FYI you can make them last well beyond that by doing desulfation process. look it up. desulfate every 2 years too for maintenance. "sweet project cars battery rejuvenation method" you cant condition/desulfate AGMs tho so they're inferior to me.

I have plenty of acquaintances in UA-camrs online who have had sponsors over the years while still chiefly running their "own content" and I've found them to stay upstanding despite doing what I suspect you are calling "selling out". True sell outs...they can't keep making videos. It destroys them. Many have spoken about it with the top "How-to UA-cam", experts in whom I appreciate like Tim Schmoyer and Roberto Blake. Want to learn how to make a successful business and include broad sources of income? You can't just rely on AdSense, but PF has a loyal following who also pays him on Patreon to follow their input and not big corporations, so at least he's not on AdSense alone.
Yep. He puts Consumer Reports to shame.
he is better than UL
I can't even begin to describe how much your videos and your channel means to me. Please keep doing what you're doing! I love watching your videos for referencing something specific and also just playing them back to back as I fall asleep at night. Such good information and seriously good integrity.
Thank you so much!!
Your the best my friend, watch you all the time. Keep up the great work. Love your channel.
Thanks!
Another great Video from this knowledgeable Gentleman. Thank you Sir.
Thanks and you are welcome!
I love this channel. Whenever I get ready to make a purchase of something that matters I looks at this channel for a comparison.
Thank you!!
That's exactly what they want you to do he gets paid for selling a product lol
@@billspencerjr8636 well there's no affiliate links and I doubt a company would sponsor a video their product comes in last and sponsorship has to be disclosed. If he makes anything outside of UA-cam, patrons and merch I can't imagine how.
Side note: Walmart has a pretty good exchange program, and most likely you're going to be somewhere near a Walmart where you can exchange it, even on a road trip.
If you want to deal with walmart. Everyone I know hates them. Me included.
Mike L - Why do you hate Walmart? Presently, this is a baseless claim.
I've had great luck with Walmart automotive stuff. They stand behind their battery warranties and tire wear warranties with no hassles.
@John Grzeskowiak the dont have the best pricing all the time. In Canada CanadianTire beats them a lot.
@@cmdrdarwin3682 , my reasons are two fold.
1. Walmart Corp. has consistantly partnered with manufacturers and distributors to have lower quality (thus cheaper) products that resemble the manufacturers higher quality offerings. For example, a $1,000 Sony TV anywhere else has 4 HDMI, Dolby Atmos, 4K, etc. At Walmart they will have the same TV body, but slightly different internals. Maybe only 2 HDMI, no Dolby, 4K upscaling instead of native, etc. and they sell it for $699. You think you are saving money because it is marketed like the $1000 set, but in fact is a completely different TV.
2. The way they have treated their workers is appalling. Not just working to keep unions out (pretty common thing for employers to do), but to go into small towns, drive away the small businesses, and then hire the now unemployed townspeople at minimum wage or just above and severely limit any growth. They are basically a parasite on small towns.
I have always used the sears Diehard , only because when they installed it the warranty was very good. Thanks for your feedback on items most used.
You are welcome!
Love this guy love this channel. I recommend him to everyone I can. Keep it up I'm a subscriber for life.
you put a lot of money and effort into these videos and it pays off, thank you
As a freezing cold Canadian I appreciate your CCA testing. Love this video!
-15 this morning, my car still started like top.
65% of after market batteries in Canada come from East Penn Manufacturing.
Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Superb testing scheme! Superb information!
Thanks and you are welcome!
My step dad retired from Johnson Controls. He'll be happy to see these results. Another great video 😁
worked for Johnson Controls years ago. Although I didnt work for the battery division, I did ocassionally work at one of their battery mfg locations. It was funny watching all of those different batteries head down the line and get a different sticker! I asked an engineer there if there really was a difference and he said only the sears Die Hard Gold had a slightly stronger acid installed. Other than that they were all the same. That was some time ago though.
Thank you!
@@lesstech74 yes years ago I had several Die Hard batteries in different vehicles and the only Die Hard battery that was any good was the Die Hard Gold.
@@lesstech74 and Bennyhanna1976, which plants, my father worked for JCI for 30 years even before the Canby Oregon plant was JCI it was Globe Union. My father was head of maintenance at the Canby plant when he passed away in 2012. Eric Bergquist. In the early days, he told me to never use an Optima as their failure rate was horrid, something like a 20% failure rate in the 1st year and nearly 40% after 3 years. I hear they are much better now. I run Interstate in my cars and probably will for the rest of my life. JCI is probably the only supplier of batteries I will ever run.
@@lesstech74 knew a guy who worked at a reman place (starters & alternators) he said the same thing ,different stickers
the HD alternators got a gold colored pulley
It’s crazy how you put up a video like this after it was snowing outside and my battery was dead
MURKIN RANZYZ I wish i have snow too here in germany
You have an Audew jump starter that he recommends, right?
@@averagejoe2842 It snowed a couple days ago where I am in Germany. Did it stick? No, but it was beautiful. I was waiting for my friend before we went to church outside and seeing the snow fall filled me with peace and beauty.
Wish it snowed here in Anchorage Alaska...
@@operator8014 say what!? 🤣
Thanks! For creating this video. I am very appreciative of your efforts!
You are welcome! Thanks for supporting the channel! I really appreciate it!
Bravo sir! Your integrity is second to none, and obviously the EverStart battery will be the one I purchase next time I need one. Thank you again you make buying decisions so much easier
Thanks and you are welcome!
Love your reviews! Just got the jumpstarter based on your tests!
Thank you very much! You're the first comment too!
lucky ur the first comment
I'm actually looking to do the same thing for all of our vehicles
accobra I’m watching to see what battery to get for my first car
@@Subie_Gang190 We usually buy our batteries from Les Schwab we've had very good luck with them.
Would love to see this test performed again since there are many more battery options and battery pricing has increased significantly. Thank you PF for your incredibly detailed reviews. The work you put into your videos is on another level.
You are welcome! Thanks for the video idea.
@@ProjectFarm yes another video please including lightweight batteries
Dakota Lithium should be in the running. In fact, you should test a host of marine materials. Like, Lithium vs AGM vs Lead-Acid, fishing line, and trolling motors.
@@christophershoe9642 when i saw the optima, my first thought was 'marine use'. i shop cabela's and bass pro shops.😎
My four wheeler/mechanic friends seem to like Interstate best. More than Optima, even with winches, compressors, offroad lights, power inverters etc.
Man, you are a lifesaver. I need a battery and it’s Sunday , but I needed battery info even faster. Thnx
You are welcome!
Thanks dude for all the tests
You are welcome!
This man is a hero without a cape me and my dad love watching these and this video was very useful as we needed new batteries
Thank you for the positive feedback
You're almost at 1 million subs! I remember I found your channel with the seafoam truck.

@@ProjectFarm we need testing on the play button see which one is tougher
Exactly the same here.
As always. Great analysis and thorough going evidence that supports conclusions. Thank you.
Thanks and you are welcome!
Great vid. Love the editing, very fast pace and high level of detail.
Next question: how long does each brand last? I'm okay with paying 20% more if it lasts 50% longer for the same relative performance.
FYI, since Clarios bought out Johnson Controls (JCI) they have significantly cheapened the batteries. I used to prefer JCI batteries but the last 10 or so I have purchased since the 2019 takeover have been almost universally disappointing with some of them coming in at under 50% of rated capacity and performance! A heads up to anyone relying on this video for up-to-date information.
This should be pinned.
You are a God send 🙏🏽
So what battery specifically from JCI performed at 50% of it's rating? That sounds scary AF. Also I don't mean to pry into your business but I'm curious as to what made you buy 10 JCI batteries in the last 3 years
@projectfarm update video for 2022 maybe?
Hey @ProjectFarm, you might want to redo this test now!
