I had one as a dealer loaner for 3 days this summer, my, then, 10 year old got teary eyed when I got my car back. Now she keeps bugging us to trade the volvo xc90 for a x7.
Great review! We just ordered an X7 x40i with the M sport package, and let me explain why we choose large SUVs over minivans. We are a family of five, and to get it out of the way, my wife and I fully agree that minivans are more spacious, have more cargo space, and are easier to get in and out of (especially for our kids). BUT, we have gone with full-sized 3-row SUVs because of the following reasons: 1. My wife prefers the higher seating position. 2. We live in Utah and have the fairly regular need for snow clearance, all-wheel drive, and the ability to drive up steep, snowy roads. As far as I know, the Toyota Sienna is the only minivan to have an AWD option, but it certainly doesn't have the ground clearance of an SUV. 3. The poshness and interior quality of up-scale, full-size SUVs cannot currently be found in the minivan market. 4. Along those lines, many of the more advanced tech features found in luxury SUVs are not as refined (or can be had at all) in the current minivan market. We regularly seat on kid in the third row, but ordered the second row as a bench to maximize seating and to be able to haul more cargo in a pinch.

@@GianniTsunami The main driver display that includes the speedometer would black out completely during a drive. We took it into a dealership service center and they could never find out what was wrong. That being said, our 2023 has the same issue though it doesn't happen quite as often. The middle seat would oftentimes get stuck in the open position after being moved to access the third row. Again, this was an issue that at times resolve itself but several times required a trip to the dealership. We have also found wireless Apple CarPlay to be finicky in both the first gen and current gen X7s... this is more of an annoyance than a major issue.

My family (in Australia) have a Volvo XC90 with 3 kids and 2 adults. My parents like it cos we can bring 2 more people, and we do use the 3rd row around about once a week.
As a kid I love 3rd row. Although we are three kids in a family. It's so luxurious when you are thinking "where would I want to sit today". And 3rd row just feels gangster. Also we are traveling quite often and it's perfect.
My wife and I need the 3rd row for Grandchildren. The extra space is great when travelling - we tend to go away on driving tours for a few weeks at a time - so the big luggage space is great
I actually love the design of the X7 and the new X5, my issue is with the new 7 Series, I do not think the big grille fits it well, not nearly as elegant as the S Class.
We had a GMC Envoy when I was a kid. We used it as a 3 row for carrying kids. It worked really well and was a lot cooler than our Ford Windstar minivan that my dad owned previously.
Great review guys, I live next to a BMW dealership in Michigan and i see these everyday, and for those that haven't seen these in person I say reserve judgment, these things look amazing.

Hey guys I have two cars I have a Dodge Challenger SRT 2015 and a 2001 Acura MDX which is still smooth as butter. I actually do use the third row when we take road trips as I am married with one kid but I often bring the rest of the family with me the third row albeit small is still viable for road trips and my passengers have no complaints. I literally only use the MDX for three things : groceries , snow , family hauling. When it’s just me or my wife and me , challenger all day .
Hey Dudes- Love the edited caricature grilles. Ranks up there with the edit on Volvo Thor’s hammer headlights. For us, the third row is pure function. With us, dogs are family - so they wear Sleepypod (professionally and thoroughly crash tested) doggy seat belts, which work in conjunction with a human seat/seatbelt. With a family along the lines of two parents, two kids, and two dogs, the typical five-seat vehicle just doesn’t cut it. As far as SUV vs van; we are an active family that love the outdoors. So, we’ll consider a van when yous can show us one with the payload and towing capacity, ground clearance, and traction management of an SUV. Bonus reason for an SUV over a van: Volvo doesn’t make vans. (Ok, there’s a little subjectivity in there) Cheers Brian
My beef with the grill is that its not proportional to the headlights. The X5 grill is perfect. The X7 is like a person with squinty eyes but a huge nose. They COULD be attractive, but alot of others will say 'nice eyes, but huge nose'.
I mean, just purchased a 2019 VW Altas and we use the 3rd row quite often. Its definitely a family hauler, and I'm all here for it. It comes in handy when going on long road trips.

Plus the off-road is second-to-none, so i did lots of desert driving and duning, and still can get home and take everyone to school without worry. Minivans just don't have that kind of versatility. Plus i towed a boat a few times.
I have a X5 with third row seating. We use it more for storage and running errands. But every blue moon, we will have another couple with us (totaling 6 or 7) and will take one suv to dinner.

Loving the continued success of the channel! The effects and camera work you guys have always done really makes the videos sharp. Love the reviews and keep them coming!
We use the third row in our 2018 expedition for people sometimes but other times for cargo. With 5 people in our family, we need a big SUV even though we used to have a 2005 Toyota sienna. My mom just didnt like the minivans anymore but does say that it is more functional than an suv
To give some data to Yuri, I drive an M340i 15 miles to work in stop-and-go traffic everyday and I have the Traffic Jam Assistant feature. About 80% of that commute is on a highway under 40 MPH, and I use that feature constantly. I normally take it off when there are merging lanes (it doesn't see cars coming into your lane super well) and when I have a chance to gun it (because that engine is sweet). Now that I have a taste of that tech, I don't think I could get another car without it. It takes the edge off of the constant, repetitive motions of that kind of traffic (micro-corrections on the steering wheel, shifting your foot from gas to pedal) and helps assuage stress.
I drove a friend's X5 and it is so comfortable to drive. Too buttery smooth, though, that I feel like I'd hate using it for a long drive for fear that it would lull me to sleep lol
I currently own a vw atlas with 3 babies, extra adults always go in the third row and have plenty of space. I avoided minivans like the plague. If I was rich, I’d totally at least test drive this.
I have an MDX and no one has ever nor will ever sit in the third row. I mainly got this for the cargo room. I can put my goalie bag and pads in the back without dropping the second roll of seats and that was a bonus for me.
The Alpina wheels look awesome on there! I've seen a few of these in person and the grille is OK, but I think the ratio of grille to headlight is still a bit strange.
To answer the 3-row question. It’s for space reasons. My family has a long history of of 3 row, full size SUVs. We had a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban LT. When it killed itself (as GM products do) we moved to a GL450 (first gen, when it still had a V8). Then we had a series of Gl-Class Mercedes-es. We now have a Ford Expedition Platinum Standard Wheelbase (basically a non-navigator navigator). We honestly don’t use 3rd row very often. The seats are folded away almost always. The only time we put them up is to keep groceries in place between the seats and the lift gate, or if someone is actually sitting in them. We mainly like our full-size, 3-row SUVs because it gives extra room. We’re a family of 4 with two retrievers. Side note- captains chairs are a terrible choice for people with dogs. Even though technically we don’t NEED a third/middle seat, it helps to keep cargo and dogs in the back. We are able to pack 3-4 suitcases and our 2 dogs and various other equipment with us with the extra space the third row gives us. THAT BEING SAID: this only works for a certain class of SUV. It HAS to be a full-size. Any midsize, even with three rows, wouldn’t work. And the seats must fold flat, so a vehicle like the Land Cruiser of Lexus LX570 wouldn’t work, because the seats fold UP, not AWAY. And they also have to be square-ish. So none of these “coupe” SUVs work because it severely decreases room for the dogs. So that means SUVs like Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne are out, even if Cayenne DID have a 3rd row. This is kinda the reason why Land Rover has gotten away with not adding a 3rd row to the Range Rover. Even though it competes with full-size crossovers like the Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7 (and I guess Infiniti QX70), as well as body-on-frame SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser, LX570, Nissan Armada and it’s Infiniti equivalent, Ford Expedition and Navigator, Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon LWB and Escalade, most people don’t need a 3rd row and just want extra cargo space. Sorry for the long answer, I just wanted to provide a nice look into a buyer of this segment.
We have a QX80. We mostly use the third row for cargo and dogs. We have 4 year old twins and three dogs, so we actually need the space. Once in a while we will need the 3rd row for people.
We got the Ford Expedition for the people option. My wife's sister lives nearby so commonly have 8 of us going places together and nothing beat the comfort and room. So giant size for people.
My wife has an x5 with the optional 3rd row. So it’s a 7 passenger. We have 4 kids so it comes in handy when we need to all go out together which is not often... we used to have a 2016 Honda Pilot and that was the perfect size. We drove from Montreal to Miami straight in 25 hours. Very comfy. I would not do the same with the BMW... we now fly!
I bought a 2019 Mazda CX-9 for the 3rd row. We don't use the 3rd row everyday but we used it for few long trips. One was over 10 hours one way. The 3rd row for the CX-9 was very usable. I was able to fit a carseat and the mom in there. Surprised that we were able to pack luggage for 6 people and a travel stroller as well. Not the most comfy with the bags but was doable. I have a roof box for last resort if things don't fit because the box creates a lot of drag and affect handling quiet a lot. Overall I'm happy with the 3rd row versability.
I think that this is quite unattractive. The big grill is not really the problem, but it’s the proportions of the grill relative to the headlights. And also the shape is weird.
True. People hated on Lexus because of the big grills, but at least the grill didn't go higher than the headlights. To me, if the headlights were a little taller and the grill was just placed a bit lower, the size of it would be perfectly fine.
Got a minivan for the wife.. but we needed another third row and I'm not a minivan daily driver type guy... And I got a Durango R/T and love it. We mainly use third row in the van for the kiddos but I use it folded down in the durango for transporting stuff, then for the kiddos when necessary.
To answer the question at the 15 minute mark... My wife and I have two kids and we still end up using the third row in our MDX every month. Very handy!
I wonder if it will still think you’re looking at the road with your eyes closed but wearing those fake glasses that make it look like your eyes are open. Potentially a very nice way to have a nap. 😂 👀
We only use the third row on our Yukon XL for airport runs. It a rare occasion, but invaluable when we need it. The rest of the time it’s basically a van

Loving the continued success of the channel! The effects and camera work you guys have always done really makes the videos sharp. Love the reviews and keep them coming!
I think for a family, this is the one to get. It looks so good. I think the big grille suits it. Love it
Really loving the Alpina wheel look, O and your graphics are getting really high end. Cool.
We use the third row in our 2018 expedition for people sometimes but other times for cargo. With 5 people in our family, we need a big SUV even though we used to have a 2005 Toyota sienna. My mom just didnt like the minivans anymore but does say that it is more functional than an suv
so why not just stick with the sienna lol
id gladly ditch an explorer for one (unless i lived in rough terrain or needed to tow)
I actually use the 3rd Row for People, it does come Handy.
It looks so much better with the photoshopped smaller grill 😂
I drove a friend's X5 and it is so comfortable to drive. Too buttery smooth, though, that I feel like I'd hate using it for a long drive for fear that it would lull me to sleep lol
Great review as always. They should make a plug-in EV version of this.
You can't beat the Pacifica when it comes to practicality.
indeed
puts all these other 3 row CUVs to shame
I don't care about LEE-ver or LEH-ver, but it's DEE-cal. Don't ever say DEH-kull. Just don't.
I currently own a vw atlas with 3 babies, extra adults always go in the third row and have plenty of space. I avoided minivans like the plague. If I was rich, I’d totally at least test drive this.
I am the only weird one who like the Grille taking up the whole front 🤣🤣😅😅
Yes.
Alpina BX7 confirmed? Haha
Hockey Sticks on the side and 401 Badge on the rear.... This was built for Toronto !! ;-)-
Purchased my X7 2021 for Babies hauler (2 adult 2 toddlers and newborn)
Impressive editing
We have a QX80. We mostly use the third row for cargo and dogs. We have 4 year old twins and three dogs, so we actually need the space. Once in a while we will need the 3rd row for people.
Hey im early again! Love the reviews and the channel keep it up!
We got the Ford Expedition for the people option. My wife's sister lives nearby so commonly have 8 of us going places together and nothing beat the comfort and room. So giant size for people.
I think the proportions are better on this than the X5.
Very comfy. I would not do the same with the BMW... we now fly!
Damn Yuri!!! That's a nice shirt 😁 and the X7 it's gorgeous!!! Nice combination!!
OMG - the grill graphics! Thank you for reminding me of the horrors not chosen by the design team. Excellent review guys.
AHH YES my favorite engine the inline v6
Up front my God the BMW X7 is massive
i hit the bell just cause of how chill your ask for it, i appreciate y'all
Thanks bro
Family rn is deciding between this one and Gls. Q7 is disappointing, low key convincing her to go for the Q8 though😂
@@MrTeetec fuck off
Wallenst3in fuck no
Navigator?
@@MrTeetec HAHAHAHAHA nah
To answer the question at the 15 minute mark... My wife and I have two kids and we still end up using the third row in our MDX every month. Very handy!
The grille keeps getting bigger and bigger
500k subs , very soon my dear , wish you the best, you got this cheery reviews..
Thanks
StraightPipes Hawaiian shirt. Count me in for 1 in every color!
Great review 😁 i just bought X7 M50d today. Thankyou for your review that give me more confident to buy it 😁
Best Regart from Thailand 😁
Anyway i love huge grill 😆
And now my girlfriend also call the shade peasant blocker (but in Thai 😆) and she love to say it ALOT!!!
Personally, hate the grill.
edit: 7:29 That would definitely help.
Yes! 3rd row young kids, SAV/SUV are fine and cheaper than minivans (same equipment) . Ascent here
I wonder if it will still think you’re looking at the road with your eyes closed but wearing those fake glasses that make it look like your eyes are open.
Potentially a very nice way to have a nap.
😂 👀
I’ll try next time
We only use the third row on our Yukon XL for airport runs. It a rare occasion, but invaluable when we need it. The rest of the time it’s basically a van
