It is 10 years younger than my 300Tdi Defender. The only issue I had on a long drive through Europe was the power steering pump sheared the pulley shaft at 60 miles and hour in France. The new pump I spray with WD40 quite regularly these days. Good luck with the drive back to UK and I hope you make some good videos for the channel so we can all follow you.
Condition is great, Looks fantastic, none of those leaks look major, much less than my 1996 300tdi at 216000 miles! With those bits sorted you mention it looks good to drive back.
You'll see me um and err over various issues in the upcoming videos. Especially after the first drive... Trying to fit this in between around work and family added some time constraints!
Good Sir, I recently got a hold of a 2004 Chevy Colorado, factory new everything with 82,000 mi, and like you, not the slightest bit of rust or damage to the frame etc. I watched your video and I couldn't help but comment at the similarities. I learned so much from watching your video and in the time I took away more than I could have expected. So cool! I can't wait to see what you do... Cheers
Seal kit for steering box but you would have to have access to a workshop to fit it with any degree of success. Some folk have fitted the output seal on the vehicle after removing the drop arm but I tried twice and removed it which is a PITA. Viscous coupling and potentially tensioner too plus always good to have a water pump & P gasket as spares, check if water or coolant has been used?? Good luck with the drive back to the UK, can't wait to see more.
@@lrworkshop I've bought a few recently and they're all made in China, at least the oil filters are, not sure on diesel filters, cost and profit I suppose.
Did row spec have egr blanked... definitely would want to get some continuity checks on those temp senders, only figured the thermostat is wired up through the egr recently, 3 wires to the engine harness but some missing without egr, if your gonna drive I'd run a bypass - nice to see that fuse box / wiper motors got hot leads, weather through europe can be scary. All that plate on a rover diff, i guess it needed to get to through to some knarly places.
So main things propshaft lubrication oil in axles grease in wheel bearing s and more play in bearing it won't overheat if preloaded may heat up Rad fan a must pulley bearings spare belt can you change cambelt or at least inspect ? Brake fluid clutch fluid IV fitted britpart plastic bushes but not that great
Nice purchase mate, what’s happening with your others? Also, when you mention the potential at 11:49 you say “still” just as your cap comes into view🤣🤣🤣
Thanks. Well 3 in my ownership now.... Will have to downsize at some point. Luckily there's no imminent pressure to do so. lol "still", never spotted that. Will have to get a new hat soon
I understood now why you bought it. 2006 300tdi! I have seen news from UK and saw Defenders are still used today? Are they still 300tdi or just Pumas????
Brass bung on the thermostat housing but still got the original crappy plastic one on the radiator - a sign of past failure? I’d replace all the plastic bits in the cooling system so they don’t randomly crack on you. Aftermarket metal should last forever, genuine new plastic should do a decade. As for new pattern plastic vs brittle original plastic I wouldn’t trust either.
Very nice 👍 very clean chassis, you might need that bulletproof armour back in the uk 😂 I would like to ask you some advice how could I contact you by email?
Maybe of interest to you, my 2006 LHD (registered 04 of 2006) TD5 has the same gearbox drain plug. You may notice that the bell housing bolt/wading plug/hole arrangement is a bit different? I’d be interested in a comparison. Great find that, looks tidy!
Hmm interesting. I never really picked up that there was a changeover as my 2003 has the large bolt drain plug. The diagrams say it was partway through 2004. The Td5 bellhousing is different than the 300Tdi, even though the gearbox is the same (albeit input shafts are different also), so the one in the video seems to be the same as my 97 300Tdi
@@lrworkshop I thought it was interesting so compared it to the old man’s 2004 TD5 110, registered 09/2004 and that has the old 32mm drain plug and different bell housing arrangement (to mine). Wonder when exactly the switchover took place, and the reason for it
Looks like you’ve found a gem there! Absence of rust due to dryish climate is impressive. Yeah, fluid checks, perishables like hoses, and it cd be good to go. Don’t fancy the lack of acceleration and going up hills though, with all that extra weight on board. Tyre pressures? Great vid, look forward to the next instalment !
Road trip from Armenia to uk! Excellent

I had a similar problem in Spain once. Managed to catch it whilst the fan belt was shredding. Videos of the journey will be coming soon
Good score, very tidy and quite special being 2006 300tdi! What an epic road trip you’re going to have!
I am pretty sure that the last factory 300tdi rolled off the line in 1998

I'd be hopping in that and driving it straight home...all part of the adventure!

Going to be a great trip. Good luck with the preparation…….😊

Love it, so jealous… it’s awesome!
Thanks!
I shouldn't think an ambulance would have done excessive mileage and it looks pretty good to me. No EGR either.
Not bad at all 👍
Thanks!
Gona need a bigger shed!
Yes....!
Newer Mahle filters are made in China and not Austria, it's the same in the UK now as well. 😢
Interesting. I bought these around June 2023

Cheers! Yes EGR blanked from the factory and none of the extra wiring
@@lrworkshop defo change fog light and check its chucking out some heat, wiper blades, new headlight bulbs etc
The reason for the armou plating is it was a field demining ambulance used for the evacuation of casualties in expensive accidents.

When you get to drive it you will probably find it has a speed limiter fitted they were usually set to 50mph

Nice original defender. Rebuild mine but lost interest in it. Still have it. Only done 75k miles in it.
Did they continue the 300tdi until 2006? Or do you mean 1996? I thought the TD5 ran through to 2006? 🤔
Yes for export markets. Stopped selling in the UK in 1998, although there have been lot of export 300Tdis registered the UK since
I never knew that, thanks for sharing! I always enjoy watching all your content, very inspiring mate. Well done!!

Looking at the diagrams, bellhousing changed at 6A712307 and drain plug at 4A678558. 300Tdi bell housing was the same all the way
@@lrworkshop thanks for the info!

Air conditioning and gun under seat lol
Yeah Defenders are so rare you have to go all the way to Armenia🤷♂️
