    I bought a beautiful OPI red, "I'm Really an Actress," and it was perfect for the holidays. I just wasn't sure how or if I could use it over dip powder until I watched your video. I did a gel top coat and it's just stunning! Thanks for reminding me that this is always another option!

    I love this so much. I am so new to dip powder and I have a drawer full of fabulous color polishes. I simply wanted something to keep my nails stronger and the dip powder colors are all expensive when you have great colors at home. I'm assuming you can change colors as easily as a polish change but keep your clear powder base until it needs fills. This is SO versatile. I believe I'll be purchasing Dr.s Remedy base and top coats, but that Berry color you used on your middle finger is to die for!! So beautiful!

    Oh wow, that dark berry color is gorgeous. Your polish application was flawless, and smooth. This is also how I started with dip powders (clear dip and polish). These look like wonderful polishes and i love that they have natural ingredients.

    This is great - thank you for showing how to do a basic apex. Two sort of random questions - I see you are brushing off the excess powder onto a towel. How do you clean the towel afterwards? I can’t imagine putting it in the washing machine is a good idea. And does using polish on top make removal any more difficult? I know you’re using peel off base, but if you didn’t and had to do the soak off method, does the polish change anything? Thank you!!

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 роки тому +19

      So I have a set of towels that I use only for my desk and filming. After each set I take it outside and shake it out really good. It all shakes out pretty easily. Then I wash my towels in a separate load together 💗
      So this mani was the longest lasting mani I’ve ever had with peel base 🤯 I think because of the amount of layers. But it’s the first time I’ve ever had to really work to pop it off. Which honestly… I kinda love 😆 because I’m so used to peel base popping off within 1-3 days. So it’s nice to know that if I want it to last longer but still not soak off, I have this option.
      If I were to skip peel base, then I would have used nail polish remover (not 100% pure acetone) to remove just the nail polish. That way I could keep my apex in tack but only remove nail polish.
      Hope this helps! 💗

    Hello Chelsea! This is Tyra I brought a bigger jar of transparent dip powder to build an apex and nail so I can use gel polish on top. I don’t like the top coat that comes in with the dip powder kits. It’s not glossy enough for me. This method as always been my go-to thing.

    I had some leftover Orly Nail repair powder and used that Orly powder as a nail dip powder over Essie Here Stay basecoat and Zoya Armor topcoats, which is so strong, I use the Zoya topcoat as a basecoat. It actually worked as a dip powder!
    Happy my weak chipping nail, my 3rd finger right hand, hadn't bent or cracked , yay! Then I used a vintage orange 🍊 sheen nail polish with Essie Blanc white mini 5ml polish, French manicure. Trouble Is the Essie Blanc white mini polishes takes ages to dry, it's like plastic jelly texture, it won't SET!
    ESSIE BLANC WHITE MINI 5ML POLISH and Wet n Wild White creme polish 13ml, Silcare Color It 7ml gel white, all these plastic White polishes wont dry!
    I use 2 yes TWO QD drops and sprays, and Zoya Armor Topcoat which is probably the fastest drying nail topcoat ! Even faster drying than Sally hansen Insta dry clear Topcoat and Seche vite quick dry topcoat!

    Forgive my questions. I'm new to dips and am still learning. What are pop offs and why use them? 2nd, if I understood the video, you can use regular polish on top of the activated dip, prior to the dip (gel) top coat? Nothing else needs to be applied to keep the polish adhered to the dip and you can use any quality nail polish? I have 3 colors that I love and can't find an equivalent in powder. Thank you!! Love the videos too. I'm learning and am grateful you respond to our questions.

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому

      Hey there! That’s a great question!
      For regular nail polish, you could try gently wiping away the nail polish with nail polish remover (not 100% acetone). It could also be buffed off! I haven’t personally tried to remove nail polish on dip but my thought process is that since nail polish remover isn’t strong enough to remove dip powder that if rubbed off quickly and gently with nail polish remover on a cotton ball it would be okay. I think overly soaking could possibly affect the dip powder but it’s hard to say unless I tried. A safer route would be using a coarse buffing block and buffing the polish off.
      If it is UV gel then I would also suggest filing it off. UV gel polish would need 100% acetone which would affect the dip powder.
      I hope this helps! So sorry I don’t have more experience on that 🫶🏻

However, the top coat from my dip powder kit is always sealing shut and gets lumpy even after I try so hard to clean the brush. Lol. Can I use a normal top coat over dip powders? So many questions. Helllppppppp. Lol. Thank you!!

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 роки тому

      Hi Kellie!!
      Welcome! 👋🏼 💖 I absolutely understand your concerns and hesitation on using gel. When I am trying gels I do my best to make sure they are at least HEMA free. I do agree that some dip powder top coats are more finicky than others. I have had really great luck with sparkle and co glossy coat 2.0.
      Which top coat is giving you trouble? What is your top coat application process?
      After my 2nd activator dries (2 min) then I wipe it down with a dry napkin. For my first coat of dip top coat, I do 3 quick swipes on the nail. Then wipe the brush off on a clean napkin, front and back, before dipping back in the bottle. For my second coat of top coat, I’m more precise and detailed. Then wipe the brush off on a napkin again before going back to bottle.
      I have never tried a regular nail polish top coat on top of dip powder. I honestly am not sure! I would think you would want to skip the 2nd activator and cleanse with rubbing alcohol then do the nail polish top coat. Worth a shot if you want to experiment on a swatch stick! 💗
      Hope this helps!

    My nails grow really fast. If I had dip nails that last 3-4 weeks, what do I do with the "gap" that would happen between the polished nail and the new growth?

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 роки тому +1

      So depending on how much of a gap and ridge there is, you could repaint on top with the nail polish to fill it in. If you use nail polish remover and not 100% acetone that will take off just the polish and not the dip powder.
      I would personally remove the polish on top just to make sure that my dip powder doesn’t have any lifting. You could also do a fill on the dip powder too before applying your next set of polish on top.
      Hope this helps! 💗

      I used it with peel base for easier removal. Peel base let’s me pop them off without soaking. So it’s difficult to say on longevity. BUT I will say it’s the LONGEST lasting mani I’ve ever had with peel base. Normally with just dip it pops off within 1-3 days. But this one went on for a week and I had to file the sidewalls to remove. I think between the base, 2 layers of color, and top coat it really was on there good 😆

    • @SipAndDip

      I’m honestly not sure! I have never tried. With dip powder liquids, the base liquid needs activator to “cure” it. You can use gel base with dip powder and once you put it in the lamp, then that “cures” it. So I’m not sure if a nail polish base/top would truly air harden on its own 🧐 might be worth an experiment on a swatch stick! I would probably try to pour the powder over top just in case so you don’t ruin a whole jar dipping in

    It's beautiful, but I can't hang with dry time

      🤣🤣 I feel you on this ! It’s definitely totally different going from dip dry time to nail polish 😆

    Can you remove the polish just like you normally would without ruining the dip base?

      I haven’t personally tried but I plan to soon! A few tricks I would try -
      1. You could put peel base on top of the clear dip powder and then polish on top. Then just the polish comes off.
      2. Use a nail polish remover (not 100% acetone) I’m not sure if this would affect the dip powder but I do wonder if done in a quick swipe that it could work 🧐
      3. The last theory would be to just buff off the polish!

      @@immnotaboutthatlife2086 I haven’t tried yet but I’ve been getting asked a lot recently about polish + dip so I will try to schedule it for June! 🫶🏻

    I use to do the same method. But the polish would melt when I would cook. It was annoying to see after putting so much effort. I still would like to use my polish. Any suggestions of what could help?

      Yea I know haha! Well thank you I will try that. I’m see if it helps it to use the polish during winter time with the dry time it’s seems quicker when it’s colder.

    Also use the Orly repair Powder to repair broken nails using a teabag or fibre glass. All good! This video is boring, she babbles on and on! UK 🇬🇧
