hey guys! i’ve gotten a lot of comments asking how long this set of nails lasted, and i found that it lasts anywhere from 2.5-4 weeks depending on how well you prep your nails as well as how hard you are on your nails :)
Created by Annette you remove it just like gel polish or dip powder:) i file off the top layer and then soak with acetone
Thank you so much for answering that I was wondering myself 😊. Do you find it better to do dip powder with gel instead of one system alone. Like only using gel or only using dip powder? Thanks for you time and this great descriptive video!!!
Adiary Munoz I think that this method is better due to the fact that it last up too 5 weeks
I did this 2 days ago - my nails seem very strong , the powder is magic ! I used pink powder with pink gel so they look semi-sheer and natural.;) Thanks for the video !
I searched specifically for this as I hate the harsh scents of dip liquids. I gave thought of trying this. Thanks very much for sharing.
I don't see a lot of nail tutorials with gel base and dip powder especially on natural nails, keep these type of tutorials coming Kate I love them.
Just a tip for any beginners watching!! Cuticle oil before polish will cause it to peel, you should make sure your nails do not come in contact with any oils before the top coat is on. Don’t even touch your hair or face because the oils will transfer and the polish will not adhere properly. -a professional nail tech :)
As a licensed cosmetologist, I would HIGHLY agree with this 🥰
Wow who puts on oil before gel polish 🤦♀️ a professional nail tech!
Thanks for making that point because she wasn't clear about it so I was thinking some viewers were bound to be confused.
I put on oil to clean and condition, but I wash with dawn twice before starting the actually nail process.
question! do i HAVE to use the dip powder on fake nails before applying gel polish?
You saved me from buying an entire dip kit
Right!
Me too
I had no idea it was possible to combine gel and dip! Thanks for this great tutorial!
This is smart. I’ve been debating on doing gel nails again or sticking with the dip powder nails. I like how this combines both and maintains the durability I need.
I always find nail videos to be so soothing especially when polishing and getting close to the cuticle without touching skin. You did a great job!
Its like one of those oddly satisying videos lol
I started going to a new nail salon and this is how they apply the dip powder. They do the gel bade and dip powder cured even with dip color. It has lasted so long on my nails this way and my nails are not ruined. I get 3 weeks of a set, i could go 4 weeks but i hate the gap.
How have I never thought of just using the gel base with he dip powder?! Mind blown! Just subscribed, what a helpful video!
I’m
Tips girl
Oh wow did not know this was possible. U learn something new everyday🙌🙌
I am SO GRATEFUL for this video! It has certainly been a game changer for me!
This is exactly what I want to do. I just ordered dip powder, so I will be doing my nails like how you did yours. I already have the gel polish, and wanted to combine the two look and feel! Thanks for sharing. Your nails look great!
Little late to this video - I’ve been doing it this way for ever exactly the same technique with the basecoat and clear powder. But I’ve also been experimenting putting the basecoat down curing it then putting the clear powder in the colored nail polish. It totally works as well. Either way! Thanks for the video
Great video!! I’m a professional nail tech and I LOVE doing dip like this! Just a warning though, black dip powder is the only one I’ve had a problem with! I think it was too dark for the light to cure it correctly!
This viedo was soooooo helpful my nails came out better then when i go to the shop THANK YOU!! I LOVE MY NAILS 💅🏾
You just saved me a whole lot of time ! I thought I had to use builder gel because it’s powder but ugh 😩 thank you !!
I watched this months ago and tried it. It's great, no more gunky base coat or hard bushes. I have just as good luck by skipping the top coat before I apply the gel polish, and they last until they need a fill.
so pretty! I am going to try this method with the base gel instead of the dip liquids! My fingers tend to itch and I have to wear a construction mask to avoid dip flu! If this works well for me I wont have to worry about that anymore! Thanks!
Can you make a video with some tips on how to make the dip look nicer around the cuticles please? I’m having a tough time making my cuticles look as nice as the rest of my nail. ❤️
Hayley Renee try dipping the nail the first time only 3/4 of the way and the second time a hairline away from the cuticle to prevent bulk and then the last time dipping the whole nail
I was having the same issue. What I found was to wipe off a bit more of the polish brush before starting at your cuticles on the second &third layers. This will prevent "flooding" where too much liquid pools around the cuticle and causes uneven coverage. Good luck
i just do the dip powder color, I file around the nails but not on top, then use 2 coats of clear gel polish over them and they look awesome
You are so good at getting the polish close to your cuticles and keeping a straight line so it looks neat! Now I need to creep your page and see if there's a video on how to do that! I've been working with gels for over 2 years now and mine still aren't that good!
Please!!! I cannot for my life get close but have a neat line.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video! Thank you, I've been wanting to do dip powder but honestly didn't want to spend the money. I knew there had to be some sort of hack for this. I'm definitely trying this tomorrow! I have everything I need. I didn't even need to buy anything extra. Doing polygel and acrylic take way to long for me. I think this will work better. I am going to use these short stiletto tips I just bought.
Loved the video - how do you clean the little bit of gel that hit around your cuticles before curing?
i usually take a small brush dipped in acetone to clean around the edges! 🤍
You are SO underrated
Thank you for sharing, this has been by far the best, and simplest way to do you own nail.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I searched all over UA-cam to find a method that was similar to the one that my old nail salon used and came upon this gem! I’ve referred back to this video every time I’ve done gel nails on myself (and others) and they’ve come out fantastic every time! 💅
(Side note: If anyone’s nail polish brand leaves them with sticky/tacky nails after the last cure, simply wipe your nails with a lint free wipe and alcohol! Hope this helps someone)
Love this set!! White is nice
Your natural nails are gorgeous
That’s a lot of work but very nice. Thank you ! I love it and i subscribed i want to watch more and updated!
How would you remove this? By wrapping aluminum foil and soaking it in acetone?
itsvytran yep, i find this is the best way of removal :) you could also file off but that would take much longer.
file the surface bit off a little, use 100% acetone, leave for ab 10-15 minutes, gently scrape off what u can, and repeat until it’s all off (:
oh and use cuticle oil afterwards to rehydrate ur nails, and the surrounding skin
Beautiful as always! Love your videos!! I've learned a lot from watching them. Thanks for sharing! 💖💕
Gorgeous! Nails look great, wish I could make white look this good 😊 thanks for detailed video
First video I’ve seen doing this method and I really like it!!! I want to definitely try this! But I have question , how would you do a fill with this method ? Could you possibly do a video showing how to do a fill ?
you would do a fill the same way you would as if you were using dip liquids! i have a video showing that process awhile back on my channel 🥰
I did your tutorial yesterday...I love the out come....thank you for putting this how to out there!
Just did this to my nails! Can't wait to see how it holds up. Have you ever tried filling them once they grow out instead of soaking off and starting all over? I'm curious how it would be to fill these.
hi! i haven’t done a fill with this particular method, however i think it would be the same as doing a fill with regular dip powder and dip liquids. i have a video doing so on my channel!
Oh awesome thank you! I'll try to find it 😊
Thats a really great application and the growth proves it. Perfection❣❤👌
I've been looking forward to a video like this! Because this is the method I use. Thanks!
I absolutely love dip powders but allergic to gel. Great video 😊
I noticed you didn’t use a activator after you got done with the dipping powder process. I’m so used to using the activator. Is there a certain reason why you don’t use it? Would it cause an issue with my nail process if I did use it?
i didn’t use activator in this case because i did not use resin with the dip powder. i used gel which does not need to be activated as it cures fully with a lamp. so therefore if you use resin you would need to apply the activator :)
😊 you’re tempting me with these gel polishes
Loved this tutorial - how do you take these off + refresh them? Do you take the polish off completely or do you only drill off the color layer and reapply? Thank you!! 💖
you can actually do either! i tend to just take them completely off but you could totally just file off the color, do a fill for any growth, and reapply the gel polish:)
@@katesnails Oh my goodness I’m having the hardest time getting these off. My technique is probably wrong 😆
Did not know about this😳 definitely trying this out! Thanks for sharing 😊
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Great tutorial 😁
Great video! So many awesome tips. So since the Sensationail Primer comes with gel base and top coat, can I use that instead of Yagoge base and top coat?
yes you can!
Very nice! The finished product is so pretty that they don't look real.
Wow it’s perfect! Thanks for sharing this wonder technique!
It’s May 2020 and I can’t find any rubbing alcohol 😭😭😭
Regular nail polish remover works just as good. And try sams club when it just opens;) they sell big jugs
1st watching your vids and you just made me to hit that subscribe button....Such a good teacher. Very clear
I love the nails!!! Have u ever done acrylic? Btw I do nail art vids too♥️
Andi's Crafting Universe i have never done acrylic but would like to try it! 💕
Omg thank you ssssooooo much for this! GAME CHANGER!!!
The resin/glue in my dip kit is stuck and I cannot open it so this for is a life saver! Thank you!
wish i watched this video before buying an entire dip kit when i could’ve just used my gel polishes instead 🤦🏾♀️
Do you have a video on how to grow your nails?!
Arely i have a video showing how i maintain and protect them! by having some sort of builder gel or dip powder on i find my nails are able to grow strong while being protected by that strength layer :)
Very good tutorial. Clear instructions and you move along quickly. Hope you had a good mission trip.
u definitely deserve more subscribers!
I loved sitting back and watching you work
Omg this is amazing! To clarify, i have a whole lot of gel polish products as i often do my own nails, if i just purchase dip powders i could use my gelish base or top using this method? Without having to purchase the resin etc? Am i getting that right? Can it be used with tips? Or just natural nails? thanks for the video!
yes! i find any gel base and top work with this technique. i highly recommend it over the resin!
katesnails wow thanks so much, that’s awesome! Can’t wait to give it a try!
Whatttt I can use my red carpet base with my ASP dip colours? Wish id seen this before I bought the ASP kit. I didnt know you could mix brands! Already have all the red carpet gel nails stuff. I guess i could use red carpet dip colors with my ASP kit too? Glad i saw this , its easier for me to get red carpet dip colors than the ASP colors. I dont like to order online when i can go to a store😂 I was wondering if i could use the UV gel base as a clear coat over the ASP instead of just a regular clear coat polish.
yes! you can definitely mix dip liquid and powder brands to create your perfect combination. ♥️ you can also use a gel top coat instead of the dip powder liquid top coat if you prefer!
Do you suggest any other nail primer ? Can you do a video like this but applying fake nails too and method dip and gel love your videos
i haven’t tried any other nail primer so i don’t have another to recommend. i actually have a few videos using tips and dip powder on my channel so check them out if you’re interested :)
I’m being watching your videos good videos! Do you have any of the gel manicure?
I saw in this video you used red carpet prep how do you like that brand for dip? And gel?
Thank you, I have gel and acrylic powder and wanted to combine the two. This is perfect! Wish I knew how to add a picture
you should put the cuticle oil on last so the gel can stick
Can you do color dip powder with this? And gel top coat? Will it be hard and sturdy?
Carolina Roman Vlogs yes! instead of the clear you can do color and instead of the gel polish you can do a gel topcoat and get the same effect :)
Very nice job I followed your steps and I finally did a great job on my nails. Thank you for your videos, I'm a newbie to the channel!😁💅🏿🙋🏾♀️
You don’t have to add a base to anything that doesn’t produce natural oil-acrylic or gel. You can go straight in with the gel polish. Nice job! :)
Senorita1982 so if I’m applying gel on acrylic I don’t need a base gel before I add color?
@@Sauzkei no love but if you want them to last longer I would
Actually you do need a base coat for the gel polish to adhere properly. If you don’t apply a base you Application will. It be smooth and the polish will peel super quickly. You always want to apply a base.
I loved this!! They look so clean, u make me want to buy gel polish so bad😫😫
Love this...
Quick one, why did you use the powder thing?
hi! i used the powder and gel liquids to add a little more thickness and strength to my nails before the gel polish 🤍
@@katesnails ohhh...makes a lot of sense. Now I know. Thank you lady ❤️
Can you do use the dip powder without having to use a uv lamp? Like if a person just wants the dip powder on their nail with just a regular clear nail polish or regular colored nail polish?
Q White You cannot use regular nail
Polish as a substitute for the gel polish. Regular polish would not adhere the dip powder to the nail. There is a resin/glue that can be used for dip
Powder that does not require a lamp (UV or LED). If you use resin with the dip powder you could use regular polish on top clear or colored.
@@Clu2sq ok. Thank you for your response. I greatly appreciate it❤
Had no idea you could use gel with dip powders! I grow my own nails, so I don't use any of that stuff, except one broke off completely and it looks so ugly I need to fix it, haha.
You have beautiful nails, Kate!! ❤
The dehydrator does the same as a pyre acetone would right? I do the same when I want to wear gel Polish on top but when I apply regular nail polish I use nail glue
yes pure acetone would do the same job as a dehydrator.
hey! awesome video, i was wondering, does this thin out your nails when it comes off?
thanks! this does not think out the nails when removed, if you remove the nails gently and correctly.
@@katesnails thanks! hey i was wondering, can you please subscribe to me? it legit would make me so happy you are one of my favourite youtubers!
Would you say its best if your natural nails are a little long when applying the dip powder? Or nail tips would make them grow faster?
it honestly doesn’t make a difference! either way, natural nails or with tips, the dip definitely helps the nails grow underneath long and strong 🤍
@@katesnails thank you
Ok so would I be okay starting with the red carpet manicure prep dehydrator, then using my ASP quick dip nail primer as my gel primer?
yes that should work :)
hello.. thanks for sharing.. you can use the same technique using glue tips?
yes you can!
@@katesnails thank u 💕
and what is better? what would be the difference between one and the other?
which lasts longer?
@@deborah7733 i think that both are very good techniques, and one isn’t really better than the other. i have a few other videos on my channel showing this technique with the tips that i recommend you check out!
Would this still work with one of my colored gels and a clear acrylic? If I did my base coat, then used my yellow gel & clear acrylic as layers?
it might work, however the color might get a little skewed. i would probably just recommend sticking to using the base gel and clear for the layers and then the color on top.
Can you use the peel off base also?
Does anyone use this method to avoid dip flu/dip liquid allergic reactions? I found myself very sick 🤢 each time after doing dip nails.
Hi Samantha! I am going to try this to avoid dip flu/allergic reactions. My nails were burning using the liquids that came in a Rossi nail kit, but I’m hoping if I just use gel polish that it will fix this.
I want o clarify that I need a dehydrator and a gel nail primer and a gel base coat. What would you recommend for the nail primer instead of the sensational primer?
honestly i don't really use nail primer anymore and don't find it absolutely necessary! if you were to use one, i think gelish offers a good one otherwise i've seen a few others use the mia secret brand.
You don’t need an activator for the clear dip powder to make it hard and durable?
I have issues with my gel polish lifting and peeling on my dip powder
Simone Swindell the best way to avoid this is to make sure the dip powder does not have a smooth surface. gel polish needs to adhere to a rough surface, so file the top layer of powder before applying gel :)
Your nail videos and my favourite!
Hello! Great video. Is there a product list for everything used here?
yes! all products used are linked in the description. 🤍
This is EXACTLY what I needed!
You deserve more attention💯💯💯💯💯
I’m going to try this method. Trying too grow my nails and think this would help 😀👌🏻
Gemma Simmons for sure! this is one of the main things that helps my nails grow :)
They turned out *so* nice!
Fantastic tutorial!!...i want to try this technique..my nails are SO fragile..❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
your nails are so pretty!
I may be late to the game.... Ive been doing dip for months and I've done gel in the past as well. But I'm curious, why combine gel and dip? What is the benefit? It came out beautifully.... Just curious on the why. Thanks! ♥
hi! the main reason to use gel and dip is to avoid something called the dip flu (an allergy to the dip liquids). it also can sometimes be a little easier for beginners to use the gel and dip method!
@@katesnails Thank you so much! I have a small channel and I am posting my Dip Manis over on my channel. I love watching your videos and getting inspiration. Great job on your channel!
You just changed the game
I just brought me a dip powder kit awhile ago can't wait to use it
GORGEOUSBAEBEAUTY if you are doing traditional dip powder kit you don’t need to cure them. There should be an activator that hardens them. I’ve been doing that for a year but I’m sick of it a little. I’m gonna try doing this instead and see how it turns out lol
do you just remove all the powder/gel base coat as you would remove gel polish?
also, can you do this on natural nails using base & activator or do you think it does damage?
hi! yes, the powder and gel polish soaks off just like gel polish/dip powder. yes, you can use the base and activator on natural nails and i also like this method. i don't think that it damages nails if it is removed gently and correctly :)
Hi, how do you stop chipping or lifting with this method please?
in order to avoid chipping or lifting, proper prep and application is necessary!
Ok dumb question does it have to be clear acrylic powder?
it doesn’t necessarily have to be clear!
Beautiful! I use structure get but I’ll have to try this!!!
So when you soak the gel the entire thing including the dip comes off as well? Like u can’t change gel colors because you’d have to soak the entire thing off
a w yes, when you soak off, all product will come off the nail. if you wanted to change gel colors, you would have to file the gel polish off so that the gel and dip powder remains. i think that if you like to regularly change colors, it would be best to apply polish over the dip and gel so that you have easy removal :)
The file on a stick is called a pterygium stone 🤭 great tutorial thanks for sharing! I prefer this method over the glue and activator as well
Kay thankyouuuuuu‼️🙌🏼 I just bought one today & I’ve been having such a hard time finding one because of trying to describe it. 😆
@@heywhohithelights lol ur welcome girl!
Did you wipe the surface with alcohol after you applied and cured the final top coat? Thanks!!
you wipe the surface depending on if it is a wipe or no wipe top coat! in this case i used a no wipe topcoat so there was no need!
If you use a coloured dip powder with this gel polish technique, would the led/UV light still be able to penetrate and cure the gel polish underneath?
tarapittaway i think so, especially if you cured it for a longer time. i actually tested it out with red and blue powder and it cured completely fine :)
@@katesnails awesome thanks
dump question but I still dont get what the powder is there for?
BananeKiwi199 the powder is there to add an extra layer of strength. you could definitely just apply the gel but i find it’s still a little too flexible for my liking so i like the added thickness and strength of the dip powder :)
katesnails does this help it from breaking??!
Sydney Dilley yes! this makes my nails stronger so they don’t break.
