Lots of good comments here. I fully agree that space is at a premium in almost any workshop, and this is a good solution to address that issue. Being his Dad (and the supplier of the paraffin), I know how hard Billd has worked on this, and how carefully he thinks out all of these projects. Look forward to the next one!
Used your hinge method to put my Kreg 720 as part of my workbench. Had to modify the hinge to fit the 2x4 but it is much better than just hanging on ttttthe side. Thank you for sharing.
Ive been looking for a solution to my small woodshop and all my bench top tools for some time and Im glad I came across this tutorial. This is by far the best design I have seen. Well done. I am going to build one of the for sure.

I have watched a ton of videos trying to decide what kind of workbench would be best for me. This idea is awesome and the coolest one I've seen. and making your own custom washers? at least for me, in the early stages of woodworking, that alone was worth watching this video. and learning about those plywood hinges! thank you for sharing :)
This is the most space-efficient design in a compact work table that I've seen. Very good engineering on this one. Two things I didn't see that I wondered about are 1) how did you handle the electric feeds for the various tools? Was it integral to the table or did you just use extension cords? and 2) did you integrate any dust collection into the table or, again, just used flex hookups? Thanks for the work putting this video together and for the free designs.
Awesome I have been looking forward to building a work bench just trying to make the most complete and your design is by far the most effective I have seen thank you
@@ProjectBilld hey, looking back, would you change anything to your design? Maybe the orientation of machines, machine selection, hardware or materials used, etc…? Thanks again.
So far there's not much I would change. I would add a swiveling caster in the center instead of the board as the middle of the bench can sag and rub occasionally when moving it. Not a big issue but just a thought

Glad you're here! Thanks for the kind words and even if you never make this specifically I hope you learned something and can apply that knowledge to other parts of your life
Dude this thing is fantastic! This design is exactly what I need for my small work shop, so I think i just found my next project. Thanks for making this video.
BTDT, best thing I could have done for my small 10' x 20' shop. I also added a router table between the table saw extensions and added a plenum with blast gates to each tool.
This is intimidating, but your video is so helpful that I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks for taking the time to document all this for us and share the plans. All the links are also super helpful.
A brilliant biild, I have seen many many work benches on here but this is brilliant because it is fairly simple, well done and thanks for posting from Garry in the UK
Looks great. My only concern would be the tool being stationary. Seems I would maybe want to move it around. I'm thinking some quick lock device that would allow for the tool to come loose from the top without removing the mounting bolts.
Dude!!!! This bench is AWSOME!!!! As a new wood worker ive been looking for a bench ideas on youtube and yours is by far the best ive seen! Keep up the great work
I've been trying to decide on what type of bench to build as I have a bunch of similar tools and well, this is it! Thank you so much for posting the video and the plans on your site. Built the frame today. Great stuff, :)
Wow! Looks great. I* have limited space and need to build something like this. A while ago I built a table the the entire top flips. After a few years of use the 2 X4 frame I made seems to have loosened up and now it's wobbly. I'm going to change the design to more like yours, but with a little heavier sub frame. Perhaps double 2x4's or 4x4 for the base frame. Thanks for the plans. Aloha!
This is well done (both the project and the video editing)! I've thinking any how to store different tools in my garage shop, and this design looks VERY promising. Thanks for sharing this.
The problem I find with multi-tool fixed storage benches like this is that the material being machined interferes with the other tools- you keep having to put them away. Make this as three separate (but connectable) trolleys, and you have 15 ways you can configure them joined, and lots more singly and in pairs.
Good build. I'm going to do a similar build. However, I will offset the rotating top for my planer. An elevated portion on one side for a level bench area. For the planer I am mounting it so that the working surface of the planer is level with the workbench. Same with my miter saw.
I like it. I like the idea pertaining to use of space. It is hugely overbuild though, that 2X construction could carry way more weight than you have on there. Pros, it does make it easy to build, Cons are that you lose space and waste materials. Great job though, think I will borrow the idea for something I wanted to build.
I have watched this video likely over 50 times lol. It’s such a great build. Can’t wait to start working on it. Something I thing I’m going to add is another cutout adjacent to the one for the star knob. That extra hole I think I would or will add either an outlet or a power strip. I think I’m going to do that to both sides and connect the wires together so that way it’s just one long cord to plug in when in use. Obviously you could keep the tools plugged in when flipping them but it eliminates the hassle of the extension cord. Idk it’s just a though.
Great video and big, no, HUGE thanks for including link to the hinges. Ive been looking for these and was sooooo close to buying from Amazon whic come in at about $8 each!!! (for powder-coated black). I hope yours are as good quality, cuz im buying now and saving myself upwards of $70 just on the hinges alone!!!!! Thanks, man
Cool build! I like how you've thought out the way you'll use the tools and still be able to have a flat surface when you need it, rather than a flip top stand that's only for the tools. And I do think it would keep me cleaning up the surface a lot more than I do now. I'm going to modify it some for my tools and make it a bit smaller footprint - and thanks for the solutions you've come up with! How are you liking it in real time use?
Love it for the most part! I do keep it pretty clean so I can use the flip up tools and it does save a lot of space. Only complaint I have is that it's difficult to move on my own because it's so large so I think a smaller footprint is a good idea
Really good vid. I like how you leave in your mistakes and how to fix them later. As someone who is new to wood working this will help me with this project and future projects.
I absolutely love this build and video!!! May I ask how I can make this for being under a carport, in FL, and not having the high humidity, heat, ruin all tools and not getting mold. I only have a golf cart garage, which stores my golf cart and there is no room for a workbench.
I love those hinges for the pull up tools. Are there hinges like this but that are hidden when the pull up tool is down? I have had this idea to build this type of pull up board with my kitchen aide mixer attched to hide in empty space in corner area. I think I’d have to use both of your pull up board and your flip board in a way. I want, or need, to have the kitchen aide mixer not go to the top of my countertop but be stable enough to be to the side of the countertop but be able to be hidden when in down position. If I use the pull up hinge type of board, it would not have the mixer facing up and to the side of the countertop. I think I would have to also use the flip in some way to have the mixer facing up.
I really liked your design, this is an incredible workbench. The thing about flip tops and such is that your project will sit on top of that bench, so you can't work that easily on a project with the tools needing to be flipped up, a separate assembly table might be in order... But I love the design and look of it! And it's good timing for me... I'm about to build a stationary workbench for some stationary tools such as the belt/disk sander, router table, and next to it is the Miter saw (on a Bora flip station) Underneath I've got an Dust Deputy and a 6HP Shop vac where I'll be putting in some blast gates and stuff... I'm repurposing an old solid door for the top. I'm still feeling my way around this home woodworking shop and it's a lot of fun seeing what others have done for inspiration... BTW: I just subbed to your channel, you do good work!
Thanks...for the free plans & for sharing such a creative mind. I have a question about the practical side now that you have had time to use the bench. Does the interior area collect a lot of sawdust? That was my only criticism...and have been pondering if there could be a way to enclose the ends...probably not practical without disrupting your use of the thing...so maybe an alternative could be to add a thin covering just over the drawers? BTW...you have a great sense of humor & timing. Very dry & witty. Thanks again.
Thanks for the kind words! Yes a bit of sawdust does get inside the bench but until I improve my dust collection, there's nowhere in the shop it doesn't get. Adding a covering over the drawers is likely the best bet to preventing dust from getting in them.
@@ProjectBilld I have only been doing wood work for about a year…very part time…enough time to know that the dust invading every centimeter of my garage is the only real downside to this creative endeavor. I am already researching dust collection as I refuse to pursue further until I have at least a rudimentary system in place. Then a version of your workbench will be my next project. Will be watching & learning in the meantime.
I have a simple system with a collection bin, dust cyclone, and shop vac and it's a big improvement over nothing but will certainly be looking to add a nicer system soon
Once the house reno is finished I will be clearing out the large shed and making one end into my workshop. I've bookmarked this for future re-watching! Thank you. :)
You should drill small holes (maybe the width of the spray straw on a aerosol can) in the wood directly over the metal shaft. That way you can add a little oil or whatever lubricant you want when it starts squeeking again.
Wow!! now that's a workbench! I love everything you built into this bench. I plan to have my planer rise up to the top of the workbench. It will have a removable top or I may use those hinges you used. I've never seen them before. The planer will be on a platform with a jack underneath. They make an adapter for a scissor jack, then you chuck it into your drill, and away it goes. I love that you have the side hanging tools- very clever. One question- are you worried about sawdust getting into the drawers? A hinged 1/4" piece of plywood woodwork. You could recess the lid by putting a rabbit around the top. Count me in as a new subscriber!
Sawdust is a way of life it seems... even with dust collection there's nowhere it doesn't get. But yes I could definitely cover the drawers as they do get lots of sawdust in them
Epic build and very well thought out, efficient and effective design. I was impressed with your problem solving of the central support change. Well done!
love the design and going to make one for the shop. My only thought is when you flip tool back down, do you get wood chips and saw dust falling into your drawers. My thought is to add a secondary piece of plywood above the drawers to stop any thing from falling into the open drawers. just a thought
I do get lots of wood dust in the drawers but I usually vacuum the flip tools off before flipping them down so it's not really from that. I find that the wood dust finds its way into the drawers no matter what but you can certainly give it a shot and see if it helps!
Im just about to get started building this and wanted to ask how yours is holding up, and if there is anything you would change now that you’ve used it for a while. I’ve been looking forward to this for over a year now and can’t wait. Thanks again.
Mine is holding up well. Top has some scratches and marks, but it's a workbench. Some things I'd improve, more support under the middle, it can sag their when trying to move it. If I had to do it again, I'd probably build a separate cart for each rotating tool and have a way to join them together when needed as mine is huge and a beast to move by myself
Thanks! I have a big garage where it can stay most the time, so I’ll start with your exact design with the middle supported a little more and then add any separate carts if needed. I would really like a large table for assembly and gluing anyways.
I did look at pillow block bearings but they were kind of expensive and the tolerances allowed were minimal, would have required a machine ground rod which also adds to the costs. The wax is holding up well so far!
Thank you for such a easy to follow set of plans and a great video to back them up with. Love my new bench. Donation on the way for all your help. Keep up the great videos and projects.
I love this build and am considering using it for my garage shop. Thanks for the very clear plans! One question, have the hinges caused any issues for you? They look like they might protrude a little and I’m wondering if they scare overhanging lumber.
Thank you for taking the time to document this. I've been looking for something like this and doing a lot of research. What do you think about half-lapping the joints for added strength?
I don't think it's necessary at all, it's a pretty overbuilt bench as is. But if you want to do it, go for it! It's your bench and should be made how you want
What a unique idea! Well done! I saw in a comment it was somewhat difficult for you to move around. Wouldn’t adding more casters help with that problem? Just wondering…
I built a off feed level bench for my router and table saw using 180degree hinges for the horizontally mounted doors. The doors concealed my benchtop bandsaw, drill press, miter saw, and surface planer. Another of the doors concealed a vacuum plenum I made with 6 gate valves which went to my benchtop tools, router, and table saw. Each bench top tool was hinged to rotate out of the top of the bench once the door was rotated 180 degrees out of the way. The tool mounts were 3/4" plywood attached to door hinges attached to my bench framework. The working surface of the surface planer and miter saw were positioned to the same level as my bemch top for off feed and material support. By adding a auto on/off switch to a multi plug my shop vac will automically turn on and off when I operate my tools. I just have to open or close the appropriate gate valve per tool used. The tablesaw rests on a 3 drawer cabinet and my router is im a cabinet that fits between the rails of the table saw. It took some adjusting and fitting to allow for the swing space needed but in my 10' x 20' shop I can rip, route or miter over 8' material with ease.
You'll definitely need more casters and want to support the middle if you go bigger than I made it. Mine already sags a little in the middle when I'm moving it so you'd want to have a caster there so it can still roll if it sags
@@ProjectBilld That is right!, thanks for the idea. I'll send a pic when I finish. I have quite a few friends that like your setup as well. Keep BILLEDing em!!

great bench design - very original and useful! I'm going to make something similar, but slightly smaller. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! The one I made is definitely large
Great design and execution.
Thanks! The workbench is proving to be very useful so far
Wow free plans as well amazing man thanks
Yeah! Enjoy the plans!
This is incredible!! Thanks!!
You're welcome!
Wow!! now that's a workbench! Sawdust is a way of life it seems... even with dust collection there's nowhere it doesn't get. But yes I could definitely cover the drawers as they do get lots of sawdust in them
Enjoyed watching you do this. Very informative. Like the way you overcame things as you went. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I think it's important to let people know that it's not all sunshine and rainbows
like your idea and would love to incorperate it into my own bench but want to mount my table saw and miter saw.
Fantastic! Congratulations!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
Epic build and very well thought out, efficient and effective design. I was impressed with your problem solving of the central support change. Well done!
Thanks!
love the design and going to make one for the shop.
I would consider adding bearing to allow the rod to rotate more freely. Works better than wax.
That's awesome that you made the bench! Thanks for the donation too!
Cool table! Picked up some nice ideas for my own table, thanks!
If it wasn't clear I used nylon lock nuts (stop nuts) on everything. Otherwise yeah it would be a risk!
I love this build and am considering using it for my garage shop. Thanks for the very clear plans! One question, have the hinges caused any issues for you? They look like they might protrude a little and I’m wondering if they scare overhanging lumber.
No issues with the hinges. They're flush or slightly below and I haven't caught any lumber on them
Great work !! - very versatile
Thanks!
Very Nice Build. Will be using some of the ideas in my new build
Thanks!
Awesome build and great video 👍🏼
Thanks!
that is simply amazing - I am looking to make a mini version of this and great inspiration
Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions when you get to making yours
Great job I'm doing the same thing for my tools .
Thanks! It's really helped free up some much needed space
Good Job. Really nice project
Thanks!
First video of yours I've seen. Great build, great documentation of the build. I'm now a subscriber!
What a unique idea! Well done! I saw in a comment it was somewhat difficult for you to move around. Wouldn’t adding more casters help with that problem? Just wondering…
Probably wouldn't hurt! If I were doing it again I'd certainly experiment with a caster in the middle of the workbench where it's prone to sag
Sounds like a sweet setup!
Great work! I am going to make this project using a full 4X8 sheet of plywood. Is there anything you would do different using a full sheet?
You'll definitely need more casters and want to support the middle if you go bigger than I made it. Mine already sags a little in the middle when I'm moving it so you'd want to have a caster there so it can still roll if it sags
@@ProjectBilld That is right!, thanks for the idea. I'll send a pic when I finish. I have quite a few friends that like your setup as well. Keep BILLEDing em!!
This is awesome - Great design and functionality👍
Mate well done I've been searching for space saving ideas for about a year. Being in the UK and all. Please could you send a link to the nuts bolts and hinges you used as I can not find them over here
There are links in the video description, do those work for you?
Do you have a set of plans for this workbench?…this looks great…
Yes check the video description for a link to the free plans!
This was amazing brother.... truly impressive well done!
Thanks!
I'm impressed. Very nice
Thanks!
Well done!
Thanks!
That is cool my friend.
Love it, wonderful job
Love this system
